Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story: He wants an Islamic state in | 0:00:01 | 0:00:04

Good evening. The leader of a Muslim group which had its meeting | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
raided by counter-terrorism officers last week says he wants an | 0:01:27 | 0:01:33
Islamic state in Britain. But Abu Hajar told Wales Today his group is | 0:01:33 | 0:01:43
NOT extremist and is not linked to Abu Hajar is the leader of a Muslim | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
group called Supporters of Tawheed. He's been running study classes at | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
a community hall in Cardiff every week for more than a year. Then | 0:01:50 | 0:01:58
last week it was raided. It was completely and called for. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
The police could have conducted themselves in it a different manner | 0:02:01 | 0:02:06
by approaching as beforehand. They know who we are. I've had meetings | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
with them before in the last few months. They know we conduct these | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
classes as they are open to the public. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
Mr Hajar says his group, the Supporters of Tawheed, is a | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
peaceful organisation. Its website says changing society cannot be | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
done via military force rather through debate instead, but it goes | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
on to say it's working toward the establishment of Islam on state | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
level" and that "it is only a matter of time until Islam will | 0:02:27 | 0:02:31
dominate the whole world. Mr Hajar says every Muslim should support | 0:02:31 | 0:02:38
him. Would you consider that to be an extreme view? | 0:02:38 | 0:02:42
Not necessarily. Just like socialist would like to see | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
socialism. At the end of the day, we live in a dapper aquatic state. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:53
Did I have freedom of expression? - - in a democratic states. If people | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
have a problem with the beliefs and be used I carry, that means they | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
have a problem with democracy and freedom. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
Counter terrorism officers believe the group may be linked to this | 0:03:02 | 0:03:09
extremist organisation, Muslims Against Crusades, which is banned. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
Seen here on a march in London, it's on a Home Office watch list, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
and being a member is a criminal offence. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
The action we took was motivated by a real concern in the communities | 0:03:17 | 0:03:22
of Cardiff, the Muslim communities in particular. We've had great | 0:03:22 | 0:03:29
support from Cardiff County Council in doing that. We took the steps we | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
took with the local community. Other Muslim groups and community | 0:03:31 | 0:03:36
leaders have distanced themselves from the Supporters of Tawheed. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:42
These people are not true Muslims. They are giving a truly bad name to | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
Islam for the religions, which is going to affect every Muslim in | 0:03:46 | 0:03:50
Wales, in the UK and around the world. The group is now banned from | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
meeting in council run premises including the hall where the raid | 0:03:53 | 0:03:55
happened, but says its work promoting Islam will continue. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
Three men have been arrested after the body of a 67-year-old woman was | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
discovered in a Carmarthenshire village. Irene Lawless was found at | 0:04:01 | 0:04:05
her home on the Bryndilice Estate in Llanllwni yesterday. A 26-year- | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and two others | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
aged 20 and 30 on suspicion of assisting an offender. Our reporter | 0:04:11 | 0:04:21
0:04:21 | 0:04:28 | ||
There is still very much a police presence here. Just behind me, you | 0:04:28 | 0:04:33
might see officers and scenes of crime investigators at the home of | 0:04:33 | 0:04:37
67-year-old Irene Lawless. The police tape is still blocking the | 0:04:37 | 0:04:42
cul-de-sac and the forensic tent is still in the garden. A 26-year-old | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Two other men have also | 0:04:46 | 0:04:50
been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, aged 20 and | 0:04:50 | 0:04:55
30. I've been here this afternoon and I've been following the police | 0:04:55 | 0:05:02
investigation. 67-year-old Irene Lawless lived alone here. The alarm | 0:05:02 | 0:05:06
was raised yesterday afternoon by friends concerned that they hadn't | 0:05:06 | 0:05:10
seen her. We have arrested three male | 0:05:10 | 0:05:12
suspects in connection with this inquiry. One of which has been | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
arrested on suspicion of murder and two of which have been a suit -- | 0:05:17 | 0:05:22
arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. We would like to thank | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
the local community in Carmarthenshire for their | 0:05:24 | 0:05:28
assistance to date and would appeal if anyone has any information, | 0:05:28 | 0:05:33
could they contact Dyfed Powys Police. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:37
Irene Lawless was well liked and a popular member of this | 0:05:37 | 0:05:41
Carmarthenshire community. It is a quiet community, there is | 0:05:41 | 0:05:47
no bother or anything here. It is a shock, a real shock. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
I first heard of the incident last night. Shocking news, to be honest. | 0:05:51 | 0:05:57
The whole community is in shock. The site is very quiet. It is a | 0:05:57 | 0:06:02
rural community. Everyone knows each other. She has been living in | 0:06:02 | 0:06:07
this house for about 20 years. Well-loved in the community. It is | 0:06:07 | 0:06:11
just a shock, to be honest. We can't understand what's happened | 0:06:11 | 0:06:14
and I want to express my deepest sympathy for family, friends and | 0:06:14 | 0:06:17
neighbours who have lived next to her for many years. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:21
Late this afternoon, the body was taken away. A Home Office | 0:06:21 | 0:06:27
pathologist is continuing the investigation. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
Dyfed Powys Police have been supporting and liaising with the | 0:06:30 | 0:06:34
family but they said they are keen to speak to anyone who has got any | 0:06:34 | 0:06:38
information about what might have happened. They are looking for | 0:06:38 | 0:06:41
witnesses or anyone with any information about what happened | 0:06:41 | 0:06:50
over the last few days. A man in North Wales has been | 0:06:50 | 0:06:53
speaking to a reporter about the journey he took to take his sick | 0:06:53 | 0:07:00
wife to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:04
I was confident that nothing would happen. But I wouldn't be | 0:07:04 | 0:07:09
prosecuted. Even if I'd known I would be prosecuted, I would have | 0:07:09 | 0:07:14
done it anyway. For somebody who was more vulnerable than I, a | 0:07:14 | 0:07:21
little old lady taking her husband, or somebody taking their child, | 0:07:21 | 0:07:25
their youngster there, it would be awful to wait 18 months to find out | 0:07:25 | 0:07:30
if they would be prosecuted or not. Although I was quite pleased with | 0:07:30 | 0:07:33
the weight the police handled it, I think the whole process could have | 0:07:33 | 0:07:40
been shorter. The only thing that I would like is the opportunity to do | 0:07:40 | 0:07:44
that in this country, rather than have to go to Switzerland or | 0:07:44 | 0:07:48
Holland or whatever. I am quite certain that a lot of those who go | 0:07:48 | 0:07:54
to Switzerland would decide to live for longer and even a not take | 0:07:54 | 0:08:00
their own lives if they could have that opportunity at home. It was | 0:08:00 | 0:08:05
difficult because I knew what was in store for her. It was a loser | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
lose situation. If I didn't go away with her, she would have gone | 0:08:08 | 0:08:15
herself. She will be determined lady. It was all very surreal until | 0:08:15 | 0:08:21
she died. Even taking the drink was not real until she died and then, | 0:08:21 | 0:08:27
to leave that place by myself, and then to catch the aeroplane by | 0:08:27 | 0:08:33
myself, was very upsetting and to arrive in a cold house back in | 0:08:33 | 0:08:42
Wales was very upsetting. That was the worst part. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:46
Test drilling for gas in the Vale of Glamorgan is to be the subject | 0:08:46 | 0:08:49
of a public inquiry The Vale council rejected an application by | 0:08:49 | 0:08:51
Bridgend-based Coastal Oil and Gas for exploratory drilling for shale | 0:08:51 | 0:08:54
gas at Llandow last year. The company appealed, now an inquiry | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
will be held in May. A former matron at a nursing home | 0:08:57 | 0:09:00
in Gwynedd cleared of manslaughter after an elderly patient choked on | 0:09:00 | 0:09:03
his food eight years ago has been struck off the nursing register for | 0:09:03 | 0:09:07
lying about her qualifications. Avola Almond, formerly Avola | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
Humphreys, falsely claimed to be qualified as a state registered | 0:09:09 | 0:09:13
nurse and had continued to work at the Bodawen Nursing home while she | 0:09:13 | 0:09:18
was unregistered. The Nursing and Midwifery Council said she'd put | 0:09:18 | 0:09:25
patients safety at risk. The First Minister Carwyn Jones has | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
hit back at criticism from opposition parties that his | 0:09:27 | 0:09:31
government isn't making a difference to peoples lives. Eight | 0:09:31 | 0:09:33
months on from the Assembly elections, the Labour leader claims | 0:09:33 | 0:09:43
0:09:43 | 0:09:44 | ||
significant progress has already May last year and Carwyn Jones had | 0:09:44 | 0:09:49
plenty to celebrate. Welsh Labour had won enough seats in the | 0:09:49 | 0:09:52
Assembly elections to form a government, with Mr Jones as First | 0:09:52 | 0:09:56
Minister. The opposition parties say Labour put their feet up and | 0:09:56 | 0:10:01
haven't done much since. Today, Mr Jones gathered the media at party | 0:10:01 | 0:10:05
HQ for bacon sandwiches and morning coffee. It was time, you said, to | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
hit back. We've been saying to people that we | 0:10:09 | 0:10:14
have the ideas. We have a detailed manifesto and we are implementing | 0:10:14 | 0:10:18
promises, taking them forward for the people of Wales. The other | 0:10:18 | 0:10:21
parties are empty. Yes, they criticised, that's because they | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
have nothing to offer themselves. Labour is pressing ahead with | 0:10:25 | 0:10:30
extending GP opening hours, putting more community officers on the beat | 0:10:30 | 0:10:34
and spending more on schools. In the Assembly, more reforms were | 0:10:34 | 0:10:37
announced today. Those who use social services will have more | 0:10:37 | 0:10:42
control about the care they get and there are plans for one agency to | 0:10:42 | 0:10:46
run adoption services. But that isn't enough for the opposition | 0:10:46 | 0:10:49
parties for his top I don't think they know the meaning of the word | 0:10:49 | 0:10:51
delivery. And a Welsh Labour, we become the | 0:10:51 | 0:10:56
poorest part of the UK. The health service is having 75 million taken | 0:10:56 | 0:11:02
out of it. That is not delivering, that is robbing the people of Wales. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:07
Labour say today doesn't -- today's event wasn't a relaunch. The First | 0:11:07 | 0:11:11
Minister hopes that by turning the focus back on to policy, he can | 0:11:11 | 0:11:15
regain the initiative and prove he hasn't run out of energy or ideas. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:18
Welsh MP David Davies has likened the UK to the Titanic, saying it's | 0:11:18 | 0:11:22
now just a question of how long it takes to sink. The chairman of the | 0:11:22 | 0:11:25
Welsh affairs committee was taking evidence from a commission set up | 0:11:25 | 0:11:28
to examine the possibility of devolving more powers to Wales. He | 0:11:28 | 0:11:31
told its chairman Paul Silk the commission should issue its report | 0:11:31 | 0:11:34
calling for further devolution now, and save taxpayers the 1 million | 0:11:34 | 0:11:40
cost. We'll be live at the Scottish | 0:11:40 | 0:11:48
Parliament tomorrow night. They will be discussing independence. | 0:11:48 | 0:11:53
Here's our Political Editor Betsan Powys. | 0:11:53 | 0:11:57
Tomorrow, Alex Salmond will set out his plans for a referendum on | 0:11:57 | 0:12:01
independence for Scotland. His plans, but what might they mean for | 0:12:01 | 0:12:05
us in Wales? I will have the latest from the Scottish Parliament on | 0:12:05 | 0:12:14
tomorrow night's programme. 90-years-old and still going strong, | 0:12:14 | 0:12:17
the Urdd, Wales' largest children's organisation sets out its plans for | 0:12:17 | 0:12:27
0:12:27 | 0:12:27 | ||
a new generation. And a new home for Bangor City football club as | 0:12:27 | 0:12:32
citizens take up residence at this stadium by the sea. | 0:12:32 | 0:12:35
Are there enough police covering rural North Wales? The Police | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
Federation, which represents officers, has told BBC Wales that | 0:12:37 | 0:12:40
some areas aren't getting the policing they'd expect following a | 0:12:40 | 0:12:45
reorganisation last year. North Wales Police are reviewing the | 0:12:45 | 0:12:55
0:12:55 | 0:12:56 | ||
changes. Chris Dearden has the story. | 0:12:56 | 0:13:00
The new system back in May last year. These are the men and women | 0:13:00 | 0:13:04
who respond when you dial the emergency services. Eight months | 0:13:04 | 0:13:09
ago, North Wales police changed the way they work in an attempt to save | 0:13:09 | 0:13:15
15 million over four years. Emergency response officers are now | 0:13:15 | 0:13:18
based in nine key police stations around the north of Wales. Police | 0:13:18 | 0:13:23
call them hubs but in some areas, it has led to concern that officers | 0:13:23 | 0:13:28
are spread two-tiered -- too thinly. On some weekends over the past | 0:13:28 | 0:13:32
three or four months, they have been fewer than three police | 0:13:32 | 0:13:37
officers on duty for the whole of the old county of Meirionnydd. Just | 0:13:37 | 0:13:44
imagine if a public order occurrence certainly happened, what | 0:13:44 | 0:13:47
would happen? There would be absolute and a key. | 0:13:47 | 0:13:52
This is one place where people have also expressed concern. What do | 0:13:52 | 0:13:55
people in the town think of the service they are getting from the | 0:13:55 | 0:13:59
police? Reasonable, as far as the normal | 0:14:00 | 0:14:04
run of things is concerned. Excellent. Can't fault them. | 0:14:04 | 0:14:10
They are never where you want them to be. They will be elsewhere there | 0:14:10 | 0:14:12
when there is something going on here. | 0:14:12 | 0:14:16
Those aren't the only worries. The Police Federation that the rent | 0:14:16 | 0:14:20
officers from those on the beat up to chief inspectors. | 0:14:20 | 0:14:25
The problems tend to be when the arrest of offenders, the | 0:14:25 | 0:14:28
prosecution of offenders, they are the areas we start to see gaps | 0:14:28 | 0:14:31
appearing. The Police Federation is also | 0:14:31 | 0:14:36
worried that cuts are have left officers spending too much time on | 0:14:36 | 0:14:39
paperwork. It says the new system hasn't been a complete disaster and | 0:14:40 | 0:14:45
others agree. What I will say is that there seems | 0:14:45 | 0:14:49
to be no evidence on the ground that the policing service has | 0:14:49 | 0:14:53
deteriorated as a result of the changes implemented last May. | 0:14:53 | 0:14:57
When it comes to emergency calls, officers' representatives say the | 0:14:57 | 0:15:01
police are still getting there on time. The force is currently | 0:15:01 | 0:15:04
looking at its new system and do to make an announcement on changes | 0:15:05 | 0:15:10
He died trying to rescue his friend. Now it's emerged Lewis Darroch's | 0:15:10 | 0:15:14
name is being put forward for a posthumous bravery award. An | 0:15:14 | 0:15:17
inquest was held today into his death and that of Callum MacKay. | 0:15:17 | 0:15:20
They both drowned in a tragedy on the coast of Anglesey last summer. | 0:15:20 | 0:15:23
The coroner recorded verdicts of accidental death. Roger Pinney | 0:15:23 | 0:15:31
reports. This speech on Anglesey is where | 0:15:31 | 0:15:35
the two young men died. Callum Mackay, the inquest heard he was | 0:15:35 | 0:15:38
determined to go swimming despite stormy seas and the efforts of | 0:15:39 | 0:15:44
friends to dissuade him. And Lewis Darroch, he dived in to try and | 0:15:44 | 0:15:49
save Callum Mackay, only to save his life as well. At the hearing, | 0:15:49 | 0:15:54
the families were told that Lewis Darroch's selfless act of heroism | 0:15:54 | 0:15:57
has prompted his name to be put forward for a posthumous bravery | 0:15:57 | 0:16:03
award. We just want to pay a huge tribute to Lewis Darroch for his | 0:16:03 | 0:16:09
unstinting bravery and not even considering his own safety but just | 0:16:10 | 0:16:15
going in and trying to rescue our son. He has been put forward for a | 0:16:15 | 0:16:24
posthumous bravery awards. Is that justified? Absolutely. The tragedy | 0:16:24 | 0:16:29
led to a major search. The two young men had gone to the day with | 0:16:29 | 0:16:35
friends. Karen macro climbed into the surf from rocks. He's won | 0:16:35 | 0:16:39
comfortably to begin with but got into trouble trying to climb out. | 0:16:39 | 0:16:44
Lewis Darroch went in after him but could not get out either. The | 0:16:44 | 0:16:48
coroner said that at times we should recognise acts of bravery. | 0:16:49 | 0:16:53
Lewis Darroch dived into the sea he to rescue his friend. He did not | 0:16:53 | 0:16:58
consider his own safety, he said. It's 90 years since Sir Ifan ab | 0:16:58 | 0:17:01
Owen Edwards called on Wales' children to join a brand new | 0:17:01 | 0:17:04
organisation - the Urdd. To celebrate that birthday, it's | 0:17:04 | 0:17:07
launched ambitious targets for the next ten years to get thousands | 0:17:07 | 0:17:17

more children along to eisteddfodau. For 90 years, the Urdd has given | 0:17:20 | 0:17:23
the children of Wales and beyond an opportunity to socialise, travel | 0:17:23 | 0:17:33
0:17:33 | 0:17:37 | ||
Things have come a long way since Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards | 0:17:37 | 0:17:40
established the Urdd. He was concerned children weren't using | 0:17:40 | 0:17:46
Welsh any more. 90 years on, and the movement's membership has | 0:17:46 | 0:17:51
reached 50,000. It also runs three residential centres, including this | 0:17:51 | 0:17:55
one in Cardigan Bay. It's quiet here today but, on Friday, a | 0:17:55 | 0:17:58
special birthday party will be held here in Llangrannog, where the | 0:17:58 | 0:18:01
First Minister will join members of Sir Ifan's family to mark the | 0:18:01 | 0:18:06
occasion. But as well as giving cause for celebration, this | 0:18:06 | 0:18:09
birthday has also given the Urdd an opportunity to look forward and, | 0:18:09 | 0:18:12
today, the movement has revealed its hopes and aims for the next 10 | 0:18:12 | 0:18:19
years. During that time it wants the number of children competing in | 0:18:19 | 0:18:23
their local Urdd eisteddfod to increase by 10,000. It also hopes | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
to see visitors to the National Urdd Eisteddfod pass the 100,000 | 0:18:26 | 0:18:36
0:18:36 | 0:18:38 | ||
mark and to double the number of young sports volunteers. It is not | 0:18:38 | 0:18:43
overly ambitious. Everybody is very busy these days, especially parents. | 0:18:43 | 0:18:51
However, the children are the future. I don't have time to | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
volunteer more. Perhaps when the children are older but not at the | 0:18:54 | 0:19:00
moment. It has always been an ambitious organisation and these | 0:19:00 | 0:19:04
challenge -- targets are set to challenge us as an organisation but | 0:19:04 | 0:19:07
also to make sure we respond to the needs and aspirations of young | 0:19:07 | 0:19:13
people. 90 years after Sir Ifan first called on the country's | 0:19:13 | 0:19:15
children join his brand new movement, the Urdd hopes its new | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
goals will help keep the flag flying for many more birthdays to | 0:19:18 | 0:19:21
come. Cardiff City stand on the brink of | 0:19:21 | 0:19:24
another Wembley final tonight. The second leg of their Carling Cup | 0:19:24 | 0:19:27
semi-final kicks off in an hour and Ashleigh Crowter is pitch-side for | 0:19:27 | 0:19:32
us tonight. Good evening. Cardiff City are | 0:19:32 | 0:19:35
looking to reach their third Wembley final in four years here | 0:19:35 | 0:19:39
tonight. They'll have to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Crystal Palace | 0:19:39 | 0:19:43
if they're to reach the Carling Cup final. They've never done that | 0:19:43 | 0:19:46
before. The Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman's been doing his | 0:19:46 | 0:19:49
best to wind up Cardiff, saying they'll be scared stiff because | 0:19:49 | 0:19:52
they've lost so many big play-off matches in recent seasons. Here's | 0:19:52 | 0:19:58
what Malky Mackay had to say in response. | 0:19:58 | 0:20:04
I look after my own club. It is not my style to talk about the history | 0:20:04 | 0:20:10
of other clubs. I have got enough going on here at the club to be | 0:20:10 | 0:20:18
dealing with. Needless to say, part of the team talk is done. | 0:20:18 | 0:20:23
I am joined by the former England defender Martin Keown. Does Dougie | 0:20:23 | 0:20:26
Freedman have a point? Will be Cardiff fans and players be | 0:20:26 | 0:20:31
terrified because of the disappointment they have had? | 0:20:31 | 0:20:35
not relevant because this group of players is brand new and a brand | 0:20:35 | 0:20:39
new manager. If I heard those comments, I would be really fired | 0:20:39 | 0:20:44
up. He has been resting his players. Cardiff are going after promotion | 0:20:44 | 0:20:48
as well and they will be used of that the big games. I expect | 0:20:48 | 0:20:53
Cardiff to be winners and go through. Cardiff are one goal down. | 0:20:53 | 0:20:57
When you come into a second leg with a deficit, how do you approach | 0:20:57 | 0:21:02
it? You have got to go for it but to do not want to concede. To | 0:21:02 | 0:21:06
Crystal Palace sit-in and draw Cardiff City in? I think this | 0:21:06 | 0:21:10
stadium will be rocking tonight. I have been here a few times this | 0:21:10 | 0:21:15
season already and the fans have been superbly. Cardiff, I feel, are | 0:21:15 | 0:21:18
looking good. There is a lot of pressure on the team but they have | 0:21:19 | 0:21:22
got the better players. They know what they need to do. They need to | 0:21:22 | 0:21:26
get back on level terms are first and it could well go to extra time | 0:21:26 | 0:21:32
at. Thank you very much. You can see the game live on BBC Two | 0:21:32 | 0:21:36
tonight. The programme starts at 7:30pm. | 0:21:37 | 0:21:40
There are a few matches of interest elsewhere. Top-of-the table Wrexham | 0:21:41 | 0:21:44
face Forest Green in the Conference. While Newport County are playing in | 0:21:44 | 0:21:54
0:21:54 | 0:21:58 | ||
the second round of the FA Trophy at Worksop. | 0:21:58 | 0:22:02
It is also a very special night for one of our Welsh Premier clubs. | 0:22:02 | 0:22:06
Thanks, Ash. Bangor City are preparing to kick their first ball | 0:22:06 | 0:22:10
in a new home after moving from their Farrar Road ground to the | 0:22:10 | 0:22:13
Nantporth Stadium on the banks of the Menai Strait. A new era starts | 0:22:13 | 0:22:16
tonight, but let's look back at the history of Bangor's former home. | 0:22:16 | 0:22:21
Farrar Road. For almost a hundred years, the venue where a tiny club | 0:22:21 | 0:22:24
took on some footballing giants. AC Napoli lost 2-0 here in the | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
European Cup Winners Cup in 1962. The same year saw a packed crowd | 0:22:27 | 0:22:37
0:22:37 | 0:22:44 | ||
getting carried away as Bangor beat Wrexham in the Welsh Cup. Bangor | 0:22:44 | 0:22:48
City responded by attacking again. The ensuing years saw 11 | 0:22:48 | 0:22:50
appearances in European competitions for the club, though | 0:22:50 | 0:22:54
the ground was too small to host them. After an emotional final game | 0:22:54 | 0:22:57
last December, Bangor City looked forward to a bigger ground which | 0:22:57 | 0:23:04
they hope will meet UEFA requirements. We still have one | 0:23:04 | 0:23:09
last bridge to cross. We still need some funding to a fair shot at the | 0:23:09 | 0:23:14
seating on the far side and behind the goal to bring the stadium ever | 0:23:14 | 0:23:18
to the 1,500 seats to meet the requirements. Hopefully we will | 0:23:18 | 0:23:23
achieve that funding soon. millionaire had expressed an | 0:23:23 | 0:23:26
interest in buying the club a few years ago after studying in the | 0:23:26 | 0:23:31
city. The old ground is being demolished to make way for a | 0:23:31 | 0:23:34
supermarket. Farrar Road may have shut up shop, but Nantporth could | 0:23:34 | 0:23:41
well provide many more memories. Bangor City are playing tonight. I | 0:23:41 | 0:23:47
am joined by the club secretary. How are you feeling? Stressed, to | 0:23:47 | 0:23:53
be honest. It has been a long time coming but the facilities are first | 0:23:53 | 0:23:58
class. It is a credit to the League. A pig that you must go to Watkin | 0:23:58 | 0:24:08
0:24:08 | 0:24:10 | ||
Jones who built this Forest. -- a lot of credit must go. It must be | 0:24:10 | 0:24:15
great for the players arriving tonight. We had training here on | 0:24:15 | 0:24:19
Saturday. You come down tonight and the lights are on and it is very | 0:24:19 | 0:24:23
exciting. I have been involved with the players and they are really up | 0:24:23 | 0:24:29
for the game. But the officials and players are also excited. Both sets | 0:24:29 | 0:24:34
of teams are really excited about this game. You have only been here | 0:24:34 | 0:24:44
0:24:44 | 0:24:50 | ||
one day and you have already attracted big names. Yes, we have | 0:24:50 | 0:24:54
had a number of big names helping has arranged this friendly. We have | 0:24:54 | 0:24:59
got Wigan Athletic at home up. The last game at Wigan played in non- | 0:24:59 | 0:25:05
League football was Wigan Athletic against Bangor City. Perfect. Thank | 0:25:05 | 0:25:14
you very much. Let's get the weather forecast now. | 0:25:15 | 0:25:18
A big change in the weather today. The reason for the rain - a warm | 0:25:18 | 0:25:21
front which moved eastwards across Britain. That has introduced milder | 0:25:21 | 0:25:24
and moister air from the Atlantic. In Colwyn Bay today, the | 0:25:24 | 0:25:27
temperature reached 11 degrees Celsius. Four degrees above the | 0:25:27 | 0:25:30
average. And football fans won't need too many layers in Cardiff | 0:25:30 | 0:25:33
this evening. The temperature around 10 degrees Celsius with some | 0:25:33 | 0:25:39
drizzle. Elsewhere tonight, cloudy and damp. Mist and hill fog as well. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:42
Drier in the northeast and along the border with temperatures well | 0:25:42 | 0:25:44
above freezing. Tomorrow's chart shows a cold front approaching | 0:25:44 | 0:25:47
Ireland. Ahead of that, mild south- westerly winds. Tomorrow is St. | 0:25:47 | 0:25:50
Dwynwen's Day. Dwynwen is the patron saint of Welsh lovers. If | 0:25:50 | 0:25:53
you're planning a romantic stroll tomorrow, I can't promise much, if | 0:25:53 | 0:25:56
any, sunshine. Cloudy and windy on Ynys Llanddwyn tomorrow morning and | 0:25:56 | 0:25:59
that goes for the rest of the country. A little rain and drizzle | 0:25:59 | 0:26:06
in the south and west. Some mist and hill fog as well. However, the | 0:26:06 | 0:26:09
east and northeast will be dry with temperatures in Bala around seven | 0:26:09 | 0:26:13
degrees Celsius. Not a brilliant day tomorrow but some places will | 0:26:13 | 0:26:16
fair better than others. The north coast, Flintshire, Monmouthshire | 0:26:16 | 0:26:19
and the Marches will be drier and brighter with the odd glimpse of | 0:26:19 | 0:26:24
sunshine. Top temperatures around 10 or 11 degrees Celsius and breezy. | 0:26:24 | 0:26:29
The south-westerly wind strengthening during the afternoon. | 0:26:29 | 0:26:33
Up to gale force in the north-west with gusts over 50mph on Anglesey. | 0:26:33 | 0:26:36
Tomorrow evening, a cold front will bring a spell of heavy rain and | 0:26:36 | 0:26:40
gusty winds, followed by clearer weather and showers. Temperatures | 0:26:40 | 0:26:46
dropping with a risk of icy patches. Thursday colder and showery. Some | 0:26:46 | 0:26:49
of the showers heavy with hail and sleet. Snow on the hills and | 0:26:49 | 0:26:53
mountains. Friday will be drier and brighter. More in the way of | 0:26:53 | 0:26:58
sunshine. The wind easing as well. At the moment, Saturday looks dry. | 0:26:58 | 0:27:01
Some sunshine, frost and a few fog patches. Our picture is from Jim | 0:27:01 | 0:27:06
