Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story: | :00:04. | :00:07.
She lied about innocent men in the Lynette White murder trial 20 years | :00:07. | :00:11.
ago - now she wants her perjury conviction quashed. | :00:11. | :00:21.
:00:21. | :00:39. | ||
She's worried she'll have to sell her house after benefits are | :00:39. | :00:44.
reformed, but does the UK Government have a choice? | :00:44. | :00:48.
Llandudno's Victorian splendour. But will they be happy to take out | :00:48. | :00:52.
their UPVC windows? Craig Bellamy is confirmed as Wales | :00:52. | :01:02.
:01:02. | :01:07. | ||
captain for tomorrow's tribute match to Gary Speed. | :01:07. | :01:11.
And the Olympic torch, but not as we know it - the spirit of the | :01:11. | :01:14.
Games arrives in schools in Carmarthenshire. | :01:14. | :01:17.
Good evening. It's one of the most notorious miscarriages of justice, | :01:17. | :01:20.
now three witnesses in the Lynette White murder trial whose lies | :01:20. | :01:24.
helped convict innocent men want their perjury convictions quashed. | :01:24. | :01:26.
It follows the collapse of Britain's biggest police corruption | :01:26. | :01:31.
trial in a murder case that's lasted more than 24 years. But in | :01:31. | :01:34.
tonight's Week In Week Out programme, Penny Roberts reveals | :01:34. | :01:38.
how it's far from over. Cardiff's docklands and the | :01:38. | :01:40.
discovery of prostitute Lynette White's body on St Valentine's Day | :01:40. | :01:43.
1988 sparked one of South Wales Police's most notorious and high | :01:43. | :01:51.
profile murder investigations. Five men were charged with killing her. | :01:51. | :01:54.
Two were cleared, three were jailed for life but later released on | :01:54. | :01:58.
appeal. And three vulnerable witnesses whose lies helped convict | :01:58. | :02:01.
them were jailed for perjury four years ago after the real killer, | :02:01. | :02:06.
Jeffrey Gafoor, was caught. But the judge at their trial said they'd | :02:06. | :02:09.
been seriously bullied and abused by police The witnesses who gave | :02:09. | :02:11.
false evidence now want their convictions quashed claiming their | :02:11. | :02:21.
:02:21. | :02:22. | ||
had no option but to lie. I felt bad about what was happening but, | :02:23. | :02:27.
at the end of the day, it is totally out of my hands. There was | :02:27. | :02:34.
nothing I could do. Nothing. This is the amount of pressure they were | :02:34. | :02:39.
putting on people. You could not do anything. Lynette's murder has led | :02:39. | :02:43.
to a series of legal actions that are far from over.. South Wales | :02:43. | :02:46.
Police are facing damages claims from a number of former colleagues | :02:46. | :02:49.
as a result of the collapsed trial. Eight former officers accused of | :02:49. | :02:52.
conspiracy to pervert the course of justice were found not guilty after | :02:52. | :02:56.
the judge was told files of evidence had been destroyed. | :02:56. | :03:01.
Investigations are underway after the documents were later found. | :03:01. | :03:09.
Calls are growing for a public inquiry. I believe very strongly | :03:09. | :03:12.
that the only way of laying this to rest in a constructive and positive | :03:12. | :03:18.
way is by having a full inquiry, an uninhibited inquiry into all | :03:18. | :03:22.
aspects so that South Wales Police will be able to move on without | :03:22. | :03:31.
this around their neck. South Wales Police Chief Constable, Peter | :03:31. | :03:33.
Vaughan, says he can't discuss the case because of the ongoing | :03:33. | :03:38.
inquiries which he backs. Legal experts now estimate by the time | :03:38. | :03:41.
Lynette's case is finally over, it could cost the taxpayer well in | :03:41. | :03:46.
excess of 100 million. Fresh claims for damages are also planned | :03:46. | :03:49.
by the men wrongly accused of murder, including Lynette's | :03:49. | :03:53.
boyfriend at the time Stephen Miller. In tonight's programme he | :03:53. | :04:03.
:04:03. | :04:07. | ||
talks for the first time. Everybody knows that she was on the game but | :04:07. | :04:12.
you don't keep saying it twentyfour seven. It gets old, it is | :04:12. | :04:16.
disgraceful, they should be a strained of themselves. She was a | :04:16. | :04:22.
very quiet person, kept herself to herself at. She liked videos, she | :04:22. | :04:27.
likes the occasional drink. She light stroking cigarettes and to | :04:27. | :04:31.
ordinary 20-year-old things. And as the legal arguments continue no-one | :04:31. | :04:34.
could have imagined that 24 years on, the murder of a young woman | :04:34. | :04:38.
would still be making headlines. Andrew Taylor is a barrister who | :04:38. | :04:45.
has been following the case closely. What strikes you reading about this | :04:45. | :04:48.
is the huge number of people who still feel justice has not been | :04:48. | :04:53.
done here. Nobody but nobody seems to be satisfied with what has gone | :04:54. | :05:00.
on and this has taken 24 years. It has cost almost 100 million. There | :05:00. | :05:04.
are an awful lot of questions that still have not been answered. | :05:04. | :05:08.
People are asking, why is it that there has been mistake after | :05:08. | :05:12.
mistake with no natural obvious outcome up. People have said, we | :05:12. | :05:15.
will move on to the next stage which will cost more money but | :05:15. | :05:19.
nobody seems to claim at the end of the day that justice has been done. | :05:19. | :05:24.
I think they are absolutely right in saying we must have a public | :05:24. | :05:30.
inquiry. The Welsh public must be outraged. What about this 100 | :05:30. | :05:34.
million pound cost for the taxpayer? It is mind-boggling and | :05:35. | :05:38.
the reason why people will be outraged is because this money | :05:38. | :05:42.
should have been spent in other ways. Police officers have taken | :05:42. | :05:46.
thousands and thousands of man- hours investing this case when they | :05:46. | :05:50.
could have been investigating other cases. In the future we may see | :05:50. | :05:53.
less bodies on the beat or less resources poured into everyday | :05:53. | :05:57.
policing as a result of the damages they may have to pay out all the | :05:57. | :06:03.
money that has been thrown away. It is a disgrace, a scandal and | :06:03. | :06:07.
something must be done. You can see more on this, including | :06:07. | :06:10.
revelations of fresh legal action in the Lynette White case, in | :06:10. | :06:14.
tonight's Week in Week out at 10:35pm here on BBC One Wales. | :06:14. | :06:17.
Child poverty cases in Wales could increase by 6,000 cases in the next | :06:17. | :06:21.
two years if the proposed welfare reforms go ahead. That's the claim | :06:21. | :06:24.
made by the Welsh Government following its assessment of the | :06:24. | :06:28.
changes. The UK Government says the current system isn't working and | :06:28. | :06:35.
needs to be changed. Jenny Hambridge from Llandrindod | :06:35. | :06:38.
Wells is one of 250,000 people in Wales who receive Disability Living | :06:38. | :06:41.
Allowance. It's a non-means tested benefit, which helps towards extra | :06:41. | :06:44.
costs which may arise from an impairment or health condition. | :06:44. | :06:47.
Under it's welfare reforms, the UK Government expects a 20% reduction | :06:47. | :06:51.
in the number of claiming this benefit. Jenny Hambridge says she's | :06:51. | :07:01.
now worried she may have to sell her home. It is a very worrying | :07:01. | :07:05.
situation and a very tense and a frightening time to be in, to be | :07:05. | :07:09.
faced with the cuts we are expecting. I could lose my house | :07:09. | :07:15.
which has been adapted for me and it is a nightmare situation. | :07:15. | :07:20.
Blaenau Gwent has one of the highest claimant counts in Wales. | :07:20. | :07:23.
Half the people at this cafe in Ebbw Vale this afternoon are on | :07:23. | :07:29.
benefits. We have got to have benefits for living on like | :07:29. | :07:36.
electricity, gas, food, financial problems. Today it is not so easy | :07:36. | :07:41.
for people to get jobs. According to Cuts Watch Wales, one in five of | :07:41. | :07:44.
the Welsh population receive some form of benefit. Of the 180,000 | :07:44. | :07:46.
claiming Employment Support Allowance or Incapacity Benefit, | :07:46. | :07:49.
only about 5% are expected to be eligible for support once they are | :07:49. | :07:52.
re assessed and 1.2 million older people have lost between 50 and | :07:52. | :08:02.
100 in Winter Fuel Payments. The UK Coalition Government wants to | :08:02. | :08:07.
ensure that only people who need benefit get it. Only this week, | :08:07. | :08:10.
Mair Lelliott from Swansea was given a suspended jail sentence for | :08:10. | :08:15.
benefit fraud. The 18 billion of welfare savings have been met with | :08:15. | :08:17.
strong opposition but the Government says the reforms will | :08:17. | :08:27.
:08:27. | :08:30. | ||
restore fairness to a system that isn't working. We will make sure | :08:30. | :08:34.
that anybody taking a job will be financially better off. Under the | :08:34. | :08:37.
previous system, it is possible that people could take a job and | :08:37. | :08:43.
still be worth -- worse-off. We want to make sure that we look | :08:43. | :08:47.
after the poorest in society, the weakest in society. The people who | :08:47. | :08:51.
can work will be expected to work and they will be better off if they | :08:51. | :08:56.
do work. It's not how the Welsh Government sees it. Today, it | :08:56. | :09:04.
reported on its internal assessment of the impact of the cuts. | :09:04. | :09:11.
Welsh Government provisionally estimates that there reforms could | :09:11. | :09:15.
increase child poverty cases in Wales by 6,000. It would also have | :09:15. | :09:20.
an impact on the Welsh economy. Cuts watch Cymru says the sheer | :09:20. | :09:22.
numbers affected could increase the burden on the Welsh Government, | :09:22. | :09:28.
local authorities and other public services. We are concerned that the | :09:28. | :09:32.
people on benefit are not fully aware of the impact it is going to | :09:32. | :09:36.
have and that is why we wanted to issue this call today. One in four | :09:36. | :09:40.
people in Wales is going to be affected directly but the indirect | :09:40. | :09:44.
effects, the ripple effect, is very significant as well. Jenny | :09:44. | :09:47.
Hambridge has already seen some of her benefits reduced already. But | :09:47. | :09:52.
nearly 90% of reforms are yet to happen. The Welfare Reform Bill is | :09:52. | :09:54.
slowly making its way through Parliament and the UK Government | :09:54. | :09:57.
hopes to have one universal benefit in place by April next year, but | :09:57. | :10:01.
those who oppose the changes are still voicing concerns. | :10:01. | :10:04.
A senior detective said he is more optimistic than ever that Thai | :10:04. | :10:08.
police will catch the killer of a backpacker from Powys. 23-year-old | :10:08. | :10:11.
Kirsty Jones, from Tredomen near Brecon, was raped and strangled in | :10:11. | :10:15.
2000. The head of CID at Dyfed- Powys Police said investigations | :10:15. | :10:25.
:10:25. | :10:27. | ||
are now focused on a DNA profile recovered from the scene. One of | :10:27. | :10:31.
the lines of inquiry we discussed was the testing of individuals who | :10:31. | :10:36.
were repeat offenders in the area with the murder took place. I find | :10:36. | :10:39.
it difficult that person has not come to the notice of the piece | :10:39. | :10:45.
before. -- Police. South Wales Police say they're | :10:45. | :10:47.
investigating allegations of dishonesty by personnel at the race | :10:47. | :10:51.
equality charity AWEMA. The charity is being wound up after an inquiry | :10:51. | :10:53.
found there was financial mismanagement. Its chief executive | :10:53. | :10:57.
Naz Malik and finance director Saquib Zia have both been dismissed. | :10:57. | :10:59.
Work is continuing to determine the extent and impact of the | :10:59. | :11:03.
Schmallenberg virus in Wales. It can cause miscarriages and birth | :11:03. | :11:05.
deformities in lambs and has already been affecting livestock in | :11:05. | :11:09.
England. John Griffiths, the Minister for Environment, told AMs | :11:09. | :11:12.
that the Welsh Government is working on a UK and EU-wide basis | :11:12. | :11:22.
:11:22. | :11:24. | ||
to share expertise and resources. Some tests in Wales have been | :11:24. | :11:27.
carried out but there are no confirmed cases. | :11:27. | :11:29.
The Foreign Secretary William Hague has said the British Embassy in | :11:29. | :11:32.
Tripoli is doing everything it can to help a Welsh cameraman arrested | :11:32. | :11:35.
in Libya. Gareth Montgomery-Johnson, from Carmarthen, is being held | :11:35. | :11:37.
along with another British reporter. They were working for Iranian owned | :11:37. | :11:41.
news channel Press TV. His local MP Jonathan Edwards raised his plight | :11:41. | :11:49.
in the House of Commons. We are aware of this. The embassy | :11:49. | :11:54.
in Tripoli is doing everything it can to assist. It is important that | :11:54. | :11:59.
access is given to his constituent and one other person involved and | :11:59. | :12:03.
so we are, while we have not achieved everything we want, we are | :12:03. | :12:07.
still working on it. Much more to come before 7 o'clock: | :12:07. | :12:12.
Craig Bellamy is confirmed as Wales captain for tomorrow's friendly. | :12:12. | :12:15.
And from school to school - the Olympic spirit arrives in | :12:15. | :12:24.
Some hoteliers in Llandudno say they face bills running to tens of | :12:24. | :12:27.
thousands of pounds if the local council forces them to remove | :12:27. | :12:33.
modern windows from their properties. Only traditional wooden | :12:33. | :12:36.
sash windows are allowed in parts of the resort to preserve its | :12:36. | :12:41.
Victorian character. Conwy Council has started to contact property | :12:41. | :12:43.
owners following concerns that some have changed their windows without | :12:43. | :12:53.
:12:53. | :12:54. | ||
finding out if they needed permission. Roger Pinney reports. | :12:54. | :12:59.
It is an architectural gem, the great Victorian sweep of | :12:59. | :13:05.
Llandudno's promenade. According to Connacht cancer officials it has | :13:05. | :13:09.
been damaged, blighted by the installation of modern windows, | :13:09. | :13:17.
some without planning permission. - - Conwy council. We have been here | :13:17. | :13:23.
for a little over five years and we bought the building with the UPVC | :13:23. | :13:28.
windows that you can see. They have not been contacted about the | :13:28. | :13:33.
council here better the Co owner says he would be loath to to put | :13:33. | :13:40.
traditional windows back in. That would be an end necessary expense. | :13:40. | :13:45.
Modern double-glazed PVC windows have their benefits. We have had | :13:45. | :13:50.
guests who have stayed at other properties that did not have the | :13:50. | :13:53.
advantage of UPVC windows, they have come to us because they have | :13:53. | :13:57.
seen we have, they have enjoyed the experience with us more. Pygmies | :13:57. | :14:06.
the rooms are warmer, it is quieter, no rattling windows. We look at it | :14:06. | :14:10.
as a plus point and the selling point. But is the view of these | :14:10. | :14:16.
people, babies at the Hotel four or five times a year. It is a | :14:16. | :14:21.
fantastic for us because the rooms are quiet. We can enjoy the view. | :14:21. | :14:26.
There is no traffic noise. It is just comfortable. Comfortable but | :14:26. | :14:31.
out of keeping is the official view and on one estimate around one and | :14:31. | :14:36.
a seafront properties here have at least one modern window. A number | :14:36. | :14:39.
of the hotelier's point out that this building has more modern | :14:39. | :14:46.
windows than any of on the seafront. It is the theatre, and it is his | :14:46. | :14:51.
council owned. It has planning permission. A council has the | :14:51. | :14:53.
backing of conservation groups although the authority is being | :14:53. | :15:00.
urged not to be too heavy handed. It is a conservation AV, we have | :15:00. | :15:05.
listed buildings and they think we're entitled to keep them as | :15:05. | :15:11.
original as possible. The style of the building is everything here. | :15:11. | :15:14.
That style has been jealously guarded for more than 100 years. | :15:14. | :15:23.
Everyone agrees Llandudno's character has to be protected. | :15:23. | :15:26.
The opera star Bryn Terfel has been presented with an honorary | :15:26. | :15:29.
doctorate by Bangor University for services to music. It's only the | :15:29. | :15:32.
second time the awards have been presented by the institution. The | :15:32. | :15:34.
singer also announced he'll perform at a concert featuring young | :15:34. | :15:44.
:15:44. | :15:44. | ||
musicians at the university later this year. I was rather lazy where | :15:45. | :15:48.
music was concerned in school. With music you can still strive to | :15:48. | :15:53.
achieve something and still work hard. I think I have got up backing | :15:53. | :15:59.
behind me. This is an added incentive to carry on, not only in | :15:59. | :16:02.
the wrong profession better to work with youngsters. | :16:02. | :16:05.
Bryn Terfel will also be performing tomorrow night at the memorial game | :16:05. | :16:08.
for Gary Speed. It promises to be an emotional evening. Today it was | :16:08. | :16:11.
confirmed that Craig Bellamy will captain the side against Costa Rica | :16:11. | :16:16.
tomorrow. Jordan Davies has more. It may not have the pressure of a | :16:16. | :16:20.
normal international match but it'll certainly have poignancy. | :16:20. | :16:22.
Tomorrow's game against Costa Rica will celebrate Gary Speed as a | :16:22. | :16:27.
player, manager and man. An occasion tinged with sadness | :16:27. | :16:33.
because of past events, but also optimism over what may lie ahead. | :16:33. | :16:36.
Craig Bellamy, a close friend and long time team mate of Gary Speed, | :16:36. | :16:40.
has been handed the captain's armband. Speculation still remains | :16:40. | :16:50.
:16:50. | :16:50. | ||
that this may be his last game in the red of Wales. Me personally, I | :16:50. | :16:57.
wanted him to stay. I will do my best to keep him. We are a better | :16:57. | :17:01.
team and a better squad with Craig Bellamy about. It will be his | :17:01. | :17:03.
decision. Wales will be without Wolverhampton | :17:03. | :17:06.
Wanderers keeper Wayne Hennessey. Wales's new manager Chris Coleman | :17:06. | :17:08.
will be there but it'll be Speed's assistant coach, Osian Roberts, | :17:08. | :17:13.
calling the shots on the night. Roberts was due to lead the team | :17:13. | :17:15.
with Speed's other number two, Dutchman Raymond Verheijen until he | :17:15. | :17:25.
:17:25. | :17:26. | ||
resigned last week. He will though be there on the night. It was a | :17:26. | :17:34.
major part in our success that we had under Gary Speed. I don't know | :17:34. | :17:41.
the ins and outs of everything. We are here to concentrate on the game. | :17:42. | :17:44.
Gary Speed won his first cap against Costa Rica, tomorrow the | :17:44. | :17:48.
thousands of Welsh fans he inspired will be able to celebrate his life | :17:48. | :17:57.
Rugby - Former Scottish international, Dan Parks is set to | :17:57. | :17:59.
leave the Cardiff Blues after two seasons to join Irish club, | :17:59. | :18:04.
Connacht. The Welsh region confirmed earlier this month that | :18:04. | :18:07.
prop Gethin Jenkins will be moving to France next season and Martyn | :18:07. | :18:13.
Williams won't be offered a new contract. | :18:13. | :18:16.
The Olympic torch has arrived in Wales. Well, not the official torch | :18:16. | :18:18.
but a Welsh-designed version touring 19 schools in | :18:18. | :18:21.
Carmarthenshire. Relay teams of pupils will run the torch from | :18:21. | :18:25.
school to school. In May the real thing will spend six days here. | :18:25. | :18:35.
:18:35. | :18:36. | ||
Kate Scott-Williams has more. Welcome to the leisure centre in | :18:36. | :18:41.
the Gwendraeth Valley. As you can tell it is netball practice tonight. | :18:41. | :18:44.
These 11 and 12 year-olds have been working hard for about an hour. For | :18:44. | :18:49.
those of you who aren't quite getting in the Olympic fiber, let | :18:49. | :18:53.
me turn you that there are many people here in Carmarthenshire | :18:53. | :18:57.
County who are making every effort possible to ensure we get into the | :18:57. | :19:07.
:19:07. | :19:09. | ||
The Olympics maybe 150 days a way of more than two London miles down | :19:09. | :19:13.
the road. But today there was a warm welcome for a distinctly Welsh | :19:13. | :19:18.
Olympic torch. No fears of it being blown out, the daffodil has been | :19:18. | :19:24.
relayed around schools in Carmarthenshire. It started this | :19:24. | :19:29.
morning and they ran it to Dyffryn Taf in Whitland. Here it was Stuart | :19:29. | :19:33.
White who took the lead. He has been nominated to run in the | :19:33. | :19:40.
official Olympics relay in May. Welcome to Dyffryn Taf. It is mind- | :19:40. | :19:46.
blowing to think that I could be actually running it. Running it | :19:46. | :19:54.
event of my own school today, it means a lot to me. I hope a one-day | :19:54. | :19:58.
in March I am able to do is for the country. It is a far cry from the | :19:58. | :20:03.
millions being spent in London. Today the Olympic rings were being | :20:03. | :20:07.
transported down the Thames. The organisers here hope it will bring | :20:07. | :20:11.
spirit of one of the greatest sporting events to this corner of | :20:11. | :20:17.
Wales. The Olympics and the values of courage and equality, friendship | :20:17. | :20:22.
and excellence, they are run excellent vehicle to transport are | :20:22. | :20:26.
those values and that message of the Olympics to pupils. For some | :20:27. | :20:31.
pupils today the Olympic hype has left them aiming high. Idea spread | :20:31. | :20:41.
:20:41. | :20:42. | ||
some long-distance. It helps us get fit and all that. It may be too | :20:42. | :20:47.
late for this relay team to compete in London, but they have the taste | :20:47. | :20:53.
of Olympic excitement. A man who is the brains behind this | :20:53. | :20:59.
scheme is Karl Daniels. Where did the idea come from. At half-past | :20:59. | :21:03.
six is Monnet asked myself the same question! Basically, with the | :21:03. | :21:07.
Olympics just around the corner wanted to try to find a way to | :21:07. | :21:12.
inspire people with something that is happening -- happening locally. | :21:12. | :21:17.
That was the idea behind it. A lot of people will say they are so far | :21:17. | :21:21.
away from the hope of events here in West Wales, people want embrace | :21:21. | :21:25.
it, they would get a sense of connection with the Olympics. | :21:25. | :21:31.
is what we sensed. I think that was country wide. We are trying to get | :21:31. | :21:35.
rid of that impression fraught people and put something on that | :21:35. | :21:39.
was going to go from door to door and from school to school. We want | :21:39. | :21:44.
to help them get involved and feel inspired by what is going on. | :21:44. | :21:46.
Pupils that they are embracing it but are you confident this will | :21:46. | :21:55.
spread out? Definitely. Carmarthenshire County Council | :21:55. | :22:00.
sport department want to get people more active, more often. We are | :22:00. | :22:04.
providing this to get people involved in activity. I am joined | :22:04. | :22:09.
by two players. Are you really embracing the Olympics? Yes, I am | :22:09. | :22:14.
looking forward to it better netball isn't in it this year but | :22:14. | :22:20.
hopefully it will be in future. isn't putting you off? I will be | :22:20. | :22:25.
concentrating on athletics. about you? Is excitement building? | :22:25. | :22:30.
I am quite excited for the Olympics but there are still a few months to | :22:30. | :22:35.
go. A lot of our friends are family, have any of them mentioned it to | :22:35. | :22:44.
you? They are quite excited about it. Devised it seems in | :22:44. | :22:47.
Carmarthenshire certainly building. We have got a few miles to go | :22:47. | :22:51.
before the real event but people here will be geared up for it. | :22:51. | :22:54.
Getting in early for St David's Day on Thursday, the Welsh Secretary | :22:54. | :22:57.
Cheryl Gillan was armed with daffodils for Downing Street this | :22:57. | :22:59.
morning. They came from the National Botanic Garden in | :22:59. | :23:02.
Carmarthenshire and were destined for someone a little further afield | :23:02. | :23:12.
:23:12. | :23:12. | ||
than Number 10. These were picked yesterday a in | :23:12. | :23:15.
the National Garden and they're going to David's mother. | :23:15. | :23:18.
The Prime Minister will host a reception for 150 Welsh guests | :23:18. | :23:19.
tomorrow. Daffodils mean spring has sprung | :23:19. | :23:29.
:23:29. | :23:33. | ||
Officially it is still winter but it feels more like spring. | :23:33. | :23:35.
Spring is around the corner. There's a festival of daffodils at | :23:35. | :23:42.
Green Street methodist church this week starting on Thursday. Now most | :23:42. | :23:46.
of Wales has been covered in cloud today but a few places saw the sun | :23:46. | :23:54.
including Bangor. Usk was one of the warmest places. Mumbles Head on | :23:54. | :24:01.
Gower one of the coolest being next to the sea. Over the next few days, | :24:01. | :24:06.
it's going to stay on the mild side. Often cloudy but some of us will | :24:06. | :24:09.
see the sun tomorrow. As you know, it's a Leap Year and tomorrow some | :24:09. | :24:12.
of you will be celebrating your actual birthday for the first time | :24:12. | :24:15.
in four years. I've been inundated with your emails and Tweets. Thanks | :24:15. | :24:18.
for getting in touch and as promised I've put a selection of | :24:18. | :24:21.
place names on my maps where some of you will be celebrating | :24:21. | :24:25.
including Barry where my dad is 80. Happy birthday Dad. I'll try and | :24:25. | :24:28.
put some more places on tomorrow, but please, no more suggestions, my | :24:28. | :24:34.
map just isn't big enough. Tonight cloudy and dry for most. Just the | :24:34. | :24:41.
odd spot of drizzle. A few breaks in the cloud. Some mist and mild. | :24:41. | :24:45.
Lowest temperatures six to eight Celsius. Tomorrow's chart shows | :24:45. | :24:47.
high pressure over France keeping our weather fairly quiet and | :24:47. | :24:56.
settled. So tomorrow a cloudy start for most of the country. Some low | :24:56. | :25:03.
cloud, mist and hill fog. I wouldn't rule out a little drizzle | :25:03. | :25:11.
but most places dry and quite mild. Temperatures in Brecon eight | :25:11. | :25:17.
Celsius with a light breeze. So generally dry tomorrow. A good deal | :25:17. | :25:20.
of cloud but more of the country should brighten-up during the | :25:20. | :25:24.
afternoon. The best of the sunshine in the south and east. Powys and | :25:24. | :25:30.
the north. Western parts including Pembrokeshire may stay cloudy. Top | :25:30. | :25:36.
temperatures 12 to 14 Celsius. Cooler on some coasts and where it | :25:36. | :25:40.
stays cloudy. In Merthyr Tydfil tomorrow, dry, cloudy in the | :25:41. | :25:49.
morning. Brighter in the afternoon. Temperatures in Treharris rising to | :25:49. | :25:59.
:25:59. | :25:59. | ||
So a mild end to February and March will start mild as well. Plenty of | :25:59. | :26:04.
cloud. A few spots of light rain or drizzle. Otherwise dry. And then | :26:04. | :26:08.
over the weekend, signs of change. Some rain on the way. The wind | :26:08. | :26:18.
:26:18. | :26:21. | ||
picking-up as well. Our picture tonight taken as Porthcawl harbour. | :26:21. | :26:25.
Tomorrow will be dry and Porthcawl and it should brighten up with some | :26:25. | :26:32.
Tonight's headlines. A British photographer wounded in Syria has | :26:32. | :26:36.
been smuggled out of the country to neighbouring Lebanon. Paul Conroy | :26:36. | :26:41.
was injured last week in the same attack they killed his colleague | :26:41. | :26:46.
Marie Colvin. Officials are St Paul's Cathedral say they regret | :26:46. | :26:50.
the clearing of a protest camp by bailiffs overnight. More than one | :26:50. | :26:54.
under tents were taken down after Occupy London protesters lost their | :26:54. | :27:01.
legal battle with the city of London to remain on the site. Three | :27:01. | :27:04.
witnesses in the let White murder trial whose allies helped convict | :27:04. | :27:09.
innocent men want their perjury convictions quashed. -- Lynett | :27:09. | :27:16.
