Welcome to Wales Today. Tonight's headlines: Slowing down motorists | :00:03. | :00:11.
to save lives. A call for more 20 mile-per-hour zones. I think it is | :00:11. | :00:21.
:00:21. | :00:38. | ||
a good idea. Children safety is a Also tonight: The Welsh language | :00:38. | :00:41.
festival that's attracted some of our biggest rugby stars. The Welsh | :00:41. | :00:43.
Government is criticised for giving 20,000 to help a Labour-run | :00:43. | :00:50.
council secure it. Would the same kind of response to be given to a | :00:50. | :00:53.
Conservative or Liberal Democrat council? Not many of us think that | :00:53. | :00:57.
would be the case. In the driving seat - David | :00:57. | :01:01.
Phillips is one of a growing number of people here who are now working | :01:01. | :01:07.
for themselves. 40 metres under the ground in east London, the sight of | :01:07. | :01:11.
Europe's biggest construction project and I have come to meet the | :01:11. | :01:18.
man in charge, before much apprentice from Cwmbran. -- A | :01:19. | :01:22.
former apprentice. And Wales have been hit by a late | :01:22. | :01:25.
injury for tonight's game with Austria. Aaron Ramsey has been | :01:25. | :01:29.
ruled out. Good evening. More 20 mile-per-hour | :01:29. | :01:32.
zones could save lives on our roads. That's the message from a group of | :01:32. | :01:35.
Assembly Members tonight. They say lowering the speed limit will | :01:35. | :01:37.
protect pedestrians, particularly children, in towns and villages. | :01:37. | :01:39.
The latest figures show that 82 children were killed or seriously | :01:40. | :01:44.
injured on Welsh roads in 2011. That's 15% more than the year | :01:44. | :01:54.
:01:54. | :01:55. | ||
before. Brian Meechan reports. This area of Port Talbot already | :01:55. | :01:58.
has a 20 mile an hour speed restriction across the whole estate. | :01:58. | :02:02.
There has been a reduction of almost 50% of road traffic | :02:02. | :02:09.
accidents in the last three years. As the head teacher of this school | :02:09. | :02:15.
says, it can save lives. Pupils, we try to educate them about road | :02:15. | :02:20.
safety, but without thinking they do sometimes run out behind a car. | :02:20. | :02:25.
If you were doing a significant speed, you will not stop in time. | :02:25. | :02:30.
The statistics say a difference between the accident at 30 miles an | :02:30. | :02:35.
hour and 20 miles an hour can be significant. Parents also support | :02:35. | :02:44.
it. They come out and ran across the road. I think it is a good idea. | :02:44. | :02:53.
Children's safety is a priority. I agree. A child has a 90% chance of | :02:53. | :02:58.
surviving being hit by a car at 20 miles an hour but only 40% at 30 | :02:58. | :03:03.
miles an hour. This is a 20 mile and our CERN we are driving in. | :03:03. | :03:09.
That is why the Assembly Member wants to see more sense restricting | :03:09. | :03:16.
speeds to 20 miles an hour especially outside of schools. | :03:16. | :03:21.
Wrexham have a clear programme in place. All of the areas outside of | :03:21. | :03:26.
their schools will be 20 MAR an hour Sones. Contrast that for | :03:26. | :03:33.
example with Caribbean -- 20 miles an hour areas. -- contrast that | :03:33. | :03:40.
with other areas... Some areas have gone further. There are warnings | :03:40. | :03:45.
that we should not take the speed limits too far. It may take too | :03:45. | :03:49.
many resources to police it. Speed cameras and the police at the | :03:49. | :03:55.
moment are struggling to enforce the 30 Mar Lour areas so trying to | :03:55. | :04:02.
when forced a new 20 miles an hour area might prove difficult. | :04:02. | :04:05.
Association of Chief Police officers is also against | :04:05. | :04:10.
introducing a blanket 20 miles an hour limit because it would be | :04:10. | :04:15.
difficult to enforce. Politicians and parents will continue to ask | :04:15. | :04:23.
for a change if it could save children's lives. | :04:23. | :04:25.
Swansea Council has been accused of acting unlawfully by the Wales | :04:25. | :04:28.
Audit Office after it transferred 20 million from a pension fund to | :04:28. | :04:31.
a bank account. The authority moved the money when it changed bank | :04:31. | :04:34.
accounts last March. It was done without the knowledge of the | :04:34. | :04:36.
pension trustees or the council's chief financial officer. The | :04:36. | :04:41.
council says it wasn't illegal and it acted in good faith. | :04:41. | :04:45.
Up to 80 jobs are under threat at a car parts factory in Colwyn Bay. | :04:45. | :04:47.
It's been confirmed tonight that the parent company of Quinton | :04:47. | :04:50.
Hazell at Mochdre has gone into administration. Union officials say | :04:50. | :04:52.
they'll be meeting the administrators in the hope of | :04:52. | :04:57.
keeping the business as a going concern. | :04:57. | :05:01.
Last week it was in danger of losing its grant. Now the Welsh | :05:01. | :05:03.
Government has stepped in to save the Welsh language Tafwyl Festival. | :05:03. | :05:06.
Cardiff Council had said it couldn't afford to give 20,000 to | :05:06. | :05:09.
the festival as it faced major budget cuts. But opposition parties | :05:09. | :05:18.
say the move creates a dangerous precedent. | :05:18. | :05:22.
8000 people visited the Tafwyl Festival last year. A week-long | :05:22. | :05:26.
event to celebrate the Welsh language. On Sunday, a public | :05:26. | :05:31.
meeting was held after its future was put in doubt. When Cardiff | :05:31. | :05:35.
council proposed cutting a grant by 20,000. The Welsh Government will | :05:35. | :05:39.
now make up the shortfall leading to accusations that a Welsh Labour | :05:39. | :05:44.
government is saving the skin of a Labour council. Would the same kind | :05:44. | :05:48.
of response be given to pro- Conservative, Plaid Cymru or | :05:48. | :05:54.
Liberal Democrat council? Not many of us think that would be the case. | :05:54. | :05:58.
What the government have done is undermined the city council in | :05:58. | :06:02.
making sure they should be looking after the Welsh language agenda and | :06:02. | :06:08.
not taking a rash decision to take away fund and 100%. This is another | :06:08. | :06:13.
organisation facing 100% reduction in funding from Cardiff council. | :06:13. | :06:17.
They provide creative programmes for people with learning | :06:17. | :06:21.
disabilities. We are desperate for the money. Without it, we could | :06:21. | :06:26.
fail. We could fail because we are an organisation which can snow went | :06:26. | :06:32.
away. We work with the most vulnerable citizens -- we turn that | :06:32. | :06:39.
no one away. Protests have already taken place to try to save a riding | :06:39. | :06:45.
school that was facing closure. What hope of the Welsh Government | :06:45. | :06:49.
stepping in to support other threatened organisation and events? | :06:49. | :06:53.
Not at all. I want all councils to understand responsibility in | :06:53. | :06:57.
respect to the Welsh language. We were already investing in this | :06:57. | :07:02.
event which has a national focus. The questions being asked by | :07:02. | :07:07.
opposition parties tonight is why Tafwyl Festival has been given | :07:07. | :07:10.
preferential treatment. Is it because they last Labour government | :07:10. | :07:16.
wants to give a helping hand to a Labour council? -- because a Welsh | :07:16. | :07:21.
Labour government. Live now to our political editor | :07:21. | :07:23.
Betsan Powys. How has the Government responded to the | :07:23. | :07:28.
criticism about this decision today? I think it is fair to say | :07:28. | :07:32.
the minister and the government are taken aback at the farce that has | :07:32. | :07:36.
been created by this particular decision. What they have done it is | :07:36. | :07:41.
not just spend a bit of money and the minister was saying, I Wish You | :07:41. | :07:47.
made fast as when I spent 5 million on something. It is not the | :07:47. | :07:51.
amount but the principle. The other parties have been saying that it is | :07:51. | :07:56.
a Labour-run council in Cardiff, even before it has finally voted on | :07:56. | :08:03.
some tough spending decisions, the Labour Government's steps in to | :08:03. | :08:09.
plug the gap. They have invited the other parties to chomp at the bit | :08:09. | :08:12.
and list festivals and libraries and swimming pools in their own | :08:12. | :08:16.
patch that would be sorely missed by the community and they would | :08:16. | :08:20.
argue is unique. The minister says he has weighed up the evidence here | :08:20. | :08:23.
and the value of this festival to the Welsh language, he is the | :08:23. | :08:27.
minister responsible for the language, and he has come to the | :08:27. | :08:32.
conclusion he should spend the money. No precedent created. This | :08:32. | :08:40.
minister has certainly created waves once again. | :08:40. | :08:43.
There's been an increase in the number of people working for | :08:43. | :08:46.
themselves in Wales. In the year to last summer, 4,000 more people here | :08:46. | :08:49.
became self-employed and make up 13% of the workforce. Anglesey has | :08:49. | :08:52.
seen the largest increase, in fact, the fourth largest in the UK. | :08:52. | :08:55.
Here's our economic correspondent Sarah Dickins. | :08:55. | :08:57.
Self-employed people are most likely to be taxi drivers, followed | :08:57. | :09:02.
by builders trades and carpenters. The new self-employed are also most | :09:02. | :09:06.
likely to be men and over 50. David Phillips of Nantygo is typical of | :09:06. | :09:16.
:09:16. | :09:21. | ||
that picture. I'd taken profits of around 150 a week. The turnover is | :09:21. | :09:25.
about 250 something like that. It varies from week to week. I do most | :09:25. | :09:30.
of my work in the evenings. Dave is one of 177,000 self employed people | :09:30. | :09:33.
in Wales, up 4,000 compared with at the start of the economic crisis. | :09:33. | :09:36.
Angelsey is a particular hotspot where there's been a 41% increase | :09:36. | :09:46.
:09:46. | :09:46. | ||
to more than 13,500 people. Unemployment here is around 16%, | :09:46. | :09:51.
twice the Welsh approach. Many are surprised it is not higher after | :09:51. | :09:55.
five years of economic crisis. One reason it seems is the substantial | :09:55. | :10:01.
increase in the number of people working for themselves. Maybe some | :10:01. | :10:06.
people are struggling to find work and are setting up themselves. The | :10:06. | :10:12.
older age groups, 50 plus, self- employment is increasing for them. | :10:12. | :10:14.
And more than half the increase in self-employment was people working | :10:14. | :10:19.
more than 30 hours a week. I am doing about 65 hours a week to make | :10:19. | :10:26.
a living. Do you want to work that many hours? No. I would like to do | :10:26. | :10:31.
40 hours a week. But I have no choice. In Nantyglo, Dave, like one | :10:31. | :10:34.
in ten of the self-employed workforce ,would like to have more | :10:34. | :10:38.
work. He has to wait for the wider economy to pick up before that | :10:38. | :10:45.
becomes a reality. Still to come tonight: Wrexham's | :10:45. | :10:48.
markets were once busy and bustling. But now stallholders are warning | :10:48. | :10:50.
they could become a thing of the past. | :10:50. | :10:53.
And it could be quite a night for fans at the Liberty Stadium with | :10:53. | :10:56.
the prospect of two of Wales star players, Craig Bellamy and | :10:56. | :11:06.
:11:06. | :11:07. | ||
Christian Bale, on the pitch The Health Minister Lesley | :11:07. | :11:10.
Griffiths says she'll study a report into failings at a hospital | :11:10. | :11:13.
in Staffordshire to see if it has any lessons for Welsh hospitals. A | :11:13. | :11:16.
public inquiry found years of abuse and neglect at Stafford Hospital | :11:16. | :11:22.
led to the deaths of hundreds of patients. In the wake of the | :11:22. | :11:25.
findings, the Cynon Valley MP Ann Clwyd has been appointed to review | :11:25. | :11:27.
NHS complaints procedures. Last December she announced she was | :11:27. | :11:30.
starting a campaign for more compassion in nursing after saying | :11:30. | :11:33.
her husband had died like a battery hen in hospital. I spoke to Ann | :11:33. | :11:36.
Clywd earlier and began by asking her whether the same problems exist | :11:36. | :11:42.
here as those in England. The Prime Minister has asked me to help | :11:42. | :11:47.
review the complaints system as far as NHS patients are concerned. | :11:47. | :11:51.
will not have particular responsibilities over Wales, but do | :11:51. | :11:55.
you believe Wales has similar problems to those highlighted in | :11:55. | :12:01.
the inquiry? I am a constituency MP and I know what people have been | :12:01. | :12:05.
saying. They complain about Accident and Emergency and long | :12:05. | :12:09.
waits and sometimes being sent home. They also right about the quality | :12:09. | :12:14.
of care and patients who are not able to reach out to get food and | :12:14. | :12:20.
drink. I have had about 1400 letters from all over England and | :12:20. | :12:25.
Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland. People have had the | :12:25. | :12:29.
experiences of the NHS. You claim to have had first-hand experience | :12:29. | :12:35.
of an uncaring NHS. Do you believe people have lost faith? That was my | :12:35. | :12:39.
experience, trying to make somebody listen to me at a time when it was | :12:39. | :12:49.
essential they did. And also seeing very few nurses around, stopping a | :12:49. | :12:53.
nurse and asking a question right, why it isn't my husband in | :12:53. | :12:56.
intensive care and being brushed aside and told there were lots of | :12:56. | :13:01.
people worse off than he was. The next day, he died. Other people | :13:01. | :13:06.
with similar experiences. We need to look at the system of complaints. | :13:06. | :13:10.
Who is accountable, what the procedures are, and if there are | :13:10. | :13:20.
:13:20. | :13:21. | ||
whistleblowers, the whistleblowers are protected. | :13:21. | :13:24.
Wrexham is a historic market town. But without urgent improvements to | :13:24. | :13:27.
its three indoor markets, they could become a thing of the past. | :13:27. | :13:30.
The warning from some stallholders comes as councillors consider a | :13:30. | :13:32.
range of options to entice vendors and visitors to return. | :13:32. | :13:35.
From clothing to jewellery, books, music, furniture and food, | :13:35. | :13:37.
Wrexham's long had it covered. Since 1848 when the butchers' | :13:37. | :13:40.
market began, the general and people's market have also opened. | :13:40. | :13:43.
But in the past six years, the number of stalls has dropped from | :13:43. | :13:53.
almost 100 to 78. The council are coming the council are trying to | :13:53. | :13:57.
stop businesses stalling. A council report considered closing, merging | :13:57. | :13:59.
and moving the markets but the reccommendation is to improve the | :13:59. | :14:02.
look and layout and increase awareness. But in these days of | :14:02. | :14:04.
internet shopping and out-of-town superstores, is there still a | :14:04. | :14:12.
market for markets? One experienced trader says there is. Markets can | :14:12. | :14:16.
offer specialisation. There is a fabulous book shop in the other | :14:16. | :14:21.
market and that sort of thing, at the big multiples do not carry the | :14:21. | :14:26.
range. We can do what they do not do and give it to the public at the | :14:26. | :14:34.
price they want in the place they want. I thought I'd set out my | :14:34. | :14:38.
stall in the town centre to see if shoppers agree. I walk stroll | :14:38. | :14:42.
through now and again but there is not anything that appeals. They | :14:42. | :14:48.
used to be a first class market town. Those years have gone. Shabab | :14:48. | :14:51.
Anwar's family have run stalls at the general market since 1969. He | :14:51. | :14:56.
thinks traders need to up their game too. Traders need to look at | :14:56. | :14:59.
themselves first before they complain to anyone else. You need | :14:59. | :15:03.
to think on your feet and do some research, what can you do to | :15:03. | :15:13.
improve your and service? Before you start saying things are bad and | :15:13. | :15:16.
blaming the council. The decline in business is affecting most towns. | :15:17. | :15:19.
But Wrexham Council hopes its intervention will stop retailers | :15:19. | :15:24.
shutting up shop for good. He started out as an apprentice at | :15:24. | :15:27.
a car-parts factory in Cwmbran. Now he's in charge of Europe's biggest | :15:27. | :15:29.
civil-engineering project. Terry Morgan is the chairman of Crossrail | :15:29. | :15:32.
which is London's new east-west rail link. His budget is 15 | :15:32. | :15:35.
billion. That's about the same as the Welsh Government spends every | :15:35. | :15:43.
year. Our business correspondent Nick Servini has been to meet him. | :15:43. | :15:47.
I am at the top of what has been described lost one of the biggest | :15:47. | :15:52.
hauls in London, this is one of the sites in east London forming part | :15:52. | :15:58.
of the CrossRail project. I am just about to go down to meet the man in | :15:58. | :16:02.
charge. 45 metres below the surface, from here, you get a sense of the | :16:02. | :16:08.
scale of the project. This is one of 40 sites in London. CrossRail is | :16:08. | :16:13.
an East-West connection due to open in five years. Two tunnels will | :16:13. | :16:18.
take passengers below central London. Passengers from South Wales | :16:18. | :16:22.
arriving at Paddington will see journey times transformed. From | :16:22. | :16:27.
there, it will take nine minutes to get to the financial area of the | :16:27. | :16:33.
City or 16 minutes to get to Canary Wharf. In all, 13 miles of tunnels | :16:33. | :16:39.
are being built. This is the main shaft of the site I visited. Full | :16:39. | :16:44.
bigging is yet to begin. The Earth is taken from here and by barge to | :16:44. | :16:49.
the Thames estuary to build a nature reserve. 64-year-old Terry | :16:49. | :16:53.
Morgan has spent a lifetime in engineering but jobs don't come | :16:53. | :17:00.
much bigger than running CrossRail. How does an apprentice from a | :17:00. | :17:03.
factory in Cwmbran end up running Europe's biggest engineering | :17:03. | :17:12.
project? Lucky. I think... I enjoy engineering. I come here and I can | :17:12. | :17:15.
learn things. I will never be an expert on how to construct a | :17:16. | :17:20.
project like this in terms of the technical detail. I can understand | :17:20. | :17:25.
it but I think the whole question about enjoying different | :17:25. | :17:29.
experiences, I have done most forms of transport now. I think this is | :17:30. | :17:34.
phenomenal. This is the business end of the operation, inside one of | :17:34. | :17:38.
the tunnel boring machines. For the next three months, this will travel | :17:38. | :17:46.
at 100 metres a week in the westerly direction of Canary Wharf. | :17:46. | :17:51.
I am 100 metres in one of the tunnels now and it is quite warm. | :17:51. | :17:57.
Directly above me is a river which is an offshoot of the Thames river. | :17:57. | :18:02.
I and 10 metres from the cutting face. I can see the electric motors | :18:02. | :18:06.
powering the machinery. It is a vast infrastructure project but | :18:06. | :18:11.
will any of the benefits be felt in Wales? This is yet more investment | :18:11. | :18:15.
for London. Looking at what has been happening over the past few | :18:15. | :18:19.
years, the Olympics and now CrossRail and commitments for big | :18:19. | :18:25.
capital programmes, electrification on the Great Western, they are all | :18:25. | :18:29.
examples of investment in infrastructure. By doing that, we | :18:29. | :18:32.
create a growth agenda and jobs. Even though a lot of it is in the | :18:32. | :18:37.
south-east, what are you saying, it is spread? Without doubt. That | :18:37. | :18:42.
sales pitch to the rest of the UK is a big part of his job. 500 tons | :18:42. | :18:47.
of the steel used in the shaft came from a company in Neath. Terry | :18:47. | :18:52.
Morgan insists there are more contracts like that up for grabs | :18:52. | :19:00.
for Welsh firms. Wales manager Chris Coleman says he | :19:00. | :19:03.
has his strongest squad ever to play against Austria in their | :19:03. | :19:05.
friendly tonight. Coleman has the option to have Gareth Bale and | :19:06. | :19:08.
Craig Bellamy starting a game together for the first time since | :19:08. | :19:11.
he took charge. Claire Summers reports. | :19:11. | :19:15.
Never has so friendly had such rich pickings and for the first time | :19:15. | :19:20.
during his reign Chris Coleman has a squad just missing a few long- | :19:20. | :19:24.
term injuries. The prospect of that and play in Bale and Bellamy | :19:24. | :19:29.
together for the first time since he took over his one he is | :19:29. | :19:32.
relishing. Bale and Bellamy in the same team, you always have a chance | :19:32. | :19:42.
:19:42. | :19:42. | ||
to create problems. Such an offensive threat. Wales rely | :19:42. | :19:46.
heavily on Gareth Bale, but Tottenham Hotspur do as well now. | :19:46. | :19:50.
In terms of the quality we have got, looking at those available for this | :19:50. | :19:56.
game, it is the strongest squad we have had. The Gareth Bale factor is | :19:56. | :20:00.
one the opposition is fully aware of. He is in sensational form and | :20:00. | :20:06.
the Austrian manager says he is well aware of the threat he poses. | :20:06. | :20:13.
TRANSLATION: It is probably the key kapok of Wales especially in the | :20:13. | :20:17.
offence. -- the key player of Wales. We have to work together and try to | :20:17. | :20:21.
stop him. For the man who knows what it is like to win at the | :20:21. | :20:25.
Liberty stadium, tonight will be a special moment as he captains his | :20:25. | :20:29.
country on home turf. With the club game so strong, he believes the | :20:29. | :20:34.
national side can only benefit. Cardiff are top of the league and | :20:34. | :20:38.
Swansea are having a really good year and in the Cup final. All | :20:38. | :20:41.
things going forward and looking well, hopefully the national team | :20:41. | :20:48.
can mirror fit and we have got to do well. We have got to defeat fans | :20:48. | :20:51.
something to cheer. Both teams are flying the flag, Cardiff and | :20:51. | :20:58.
Swansea, and as Wales we need to do that too. It has been a rocky 12 | :20:58. | :21:05.
months for Chris Coleman with just one victory in six. He is hoping he | :21:05. | :21:08.
will get the ball rolling tonight as they prepare for Scotland and | :21:08. | :21:14.
Croatia next month. Live to the Liberty Stadium now. | :21:14. | :21:17.
Rob Phillips is commentating for BBC Radio Wales tonight and we can | :21:17. | :21:24.
speak to him now. Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out. It seems it never | :21:24. | :21:28.
quite works that far and the Wales manager. I understand Aaron Ramsey | :21:28. | :21:33.
went for a scan yesterday and it is not too serious. Had it been a | :21:33. | :21:37.
qualifier, Aaron Ramsey may well have been playing tonight. But I | :21:37. | :21:45.
know he has gone back to his club Arsenal. Just a slight calf tissue | :21:45. | :21:49.
injury but they do not want him going back to Arsenal with any | :21:49. | :21:53.
serious problems. But a very exciting prospect for welsh fans to | :21:53. | :21:58.
see Bale and Bellamy played together. Absolutely. Gareth Bale | :21:58. | :22:02.
is the hottest young property in British football. He is being | :22:02. | :22:07.
ranked up with the best because of his form with Tottenham. He scored | :22:07. | :22:12.
every goal that Wales scored in 2012. He is very important. Craig | :22:12. | :22:15.
Bellamy looks refreshed and he is back on the international scene and | :22:15. | :22:20.
any Cardiff City fan will tell you he is playing really well in the | :22:20. | :22:26.
championship. If he can transfers that prompted the international | :22:26. | :22:31.
scene, Chris Coleman will be happy. He seems delighted with the squad. | :22:31. | :22:36.
He is. He is very excited. It is rare he gets the likes of Bale and | :22:36. | :22:39.
Bellamy together. The first time they will have played together | :22:39. | :22:44.
since Gary Speed's last game against Norway. That was a 4-1 win. | :22:44. | :22:47.
Chris Coleman will hope for something similar tonight but it | :22:47. | :22:51.
will be very tough. Austria are a tough nut to crack but the Welsh | :22:51. | :22:56.
fans will turn up tonight full of expectancy. Fingers crossed. Enjoy | :22:56. | :23:05.
the match. The game is live on Radio Wales | :23:05. | :23:08.
from 7pm. And you can watch the highlights over on BBC Two Wales at | :23:08. | :23:13.
11.20pm. It looks like another cold night in Swansea. Lovely sunshine | :23:13. | :23:23.
It has been a long winter and it is not over yet. It felt cold in the | :23:23. | :23:28.
winds today. Gusts of up to 63 now sought an hour at Aberporth in | :23:28. | :23:33.
Ceredigion. It has not been dry everywhere today. There have been | :23:33. | :23:38.
showers. The winds will ease tonight with icy patches. Showers | :23:38. | :23:40.
are extending today from Aberdaron into South Ceredigion, | :23:40. | :23:47.
Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Cornwall. This is known as the | :23:47. | :23:50.
Pembrokeshire Dangler in the weather world. It is quite common | :23:50. | :23:55.
and forms when the winds are from the north. This evening, further | :23:55. | :24:00.
showers for the south-west. Elsewhere, dry and clear. Overnight, | :24:00. | :24:06.
a few showers turning up. Temperatures inland falling below | :24:06. | :24:12.
freezing. There is a warning of icy patches. Tomorrow's chart shows a | :24:12. | :24:17.
front over Ireland moving slowly towards us. Tomorrow morning, a | :24:17. | :24:21.
cold start and it could be icy in places. A few showers likely in | :24:21. | :24:27.
parts of the North. Otherwise, most of the country dry and bright for a | :24:27. | :24:36.
time with weak and hazy sunshine. During the day, cloud will increase | :24:36. | :24:40.
and thicken and that will eventually bring rain and sleet and | :24:40. | :24:47.
snow in the afternoon. We could see a few centimetres on some of the | :24:47. | :24:52.
hills and mountains. Temperatures, up to six degrees. Winds much | :24:52. | :24:56.
lighter than today. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow tomorrow | :24:56. | :25:04.
evening. Turning lighter overnight. Friday, showers will gradually die | :25:04. | :25:10.
away. Quite windy again on the west coast. Saturday, mostly dry and | :25:10. | :25:16.
settled. Sunday into Monday, not so clear cut. There is a risk of heavy | :25:16. | :25:23.
rain and more snow. Not 100% sure how much snow at the moment. Stay | :25:23. | :25:28.
tuned for up its. Our picture tonight is cheap braving the cold. | :25:28. | :25:34.
Thank you for all of your photographs. Stay warm and keep the | :25:34. | :25:43.
woolly coats handy. Louise. Not Louise! You can call me what every | :25:43. | :25:46.
you like! Hundreds of patients suffered and | :25:46. | :25:50.
many may have died as a result of years of neglect at Stafford | :25:50. | :25:55.
Hospital. An inquiry into what went wrong there says there has to be | :25:56. | :25:59.
fundamental change from top to bottom in the NHS. | :25:59. | :26:06.
In the wake of the findings, and Ackroyd has been appointed to | :26:06. | :26:10. |
