get extra funding to pay for their daughter's help. The family wanted

to move to a system of direct payments, available in other parts

of the UK, but the local social services department couldn't agree

who should pay. Ten-year-old Poppy has a condition

called Warburg micro-syndrome. She is blind and unable to walk or talk.

She has to be fed by a tube into her stomach. For two years, her mum and

dad have been fighting to get more financial support to care for her at

home. They want to move on to a system of direct payment used in

other parts of the UK. But neither the health board or local social

services would take responsibility for the cost. Because she is tube

fed, and they say that needs to be done by a nurse, therefore they

won't give us payments because they won't use part of their budget to

pay for nursing needs. Where is the health side said that tube feeding

isn't a nursing need, and anyone can do it. We featured the couple's

struggle last month, and no social services have said they will

authorise direct payments. It means the world our family. It will mean a

better quality of the Poppy, with more help, people being able to help

us get to School, Bath, maybe swim more, do therapy her and things.
