CEDWHITE Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story: The world's largest | :00:08. | :00:12.
passenger planes touches down in Cardiff. Now there are hopes that | :00:12. | :00:15.
contracts for servicing the aircraft will follow. | :00:15. | :00:20.
There's a huge maintenance depot here with 800 workers. Servicing the | :00:20. | :00:30.
:00:30. | :00:48. | ||
The other headlines tonight, why the law could be changed to make it | :00:48. | :00:51.
harder to live in caravans all year round. | :00:51. | :00:58.
Swansea tries to get on top of its centre centre -- city centre drink | :00:59. | :01:03.
culture. And jazz Carlin misses out by. 014 | :01:03. | :01:06.
of a second. Good evening. Long-haul aircraft | :01:06. | :01:11.
like the Boeing 747 are already serviced there. Tonight British | :01:11. | :01:15.
Airways says Cardiff airport could be where the new fleet of 12 | :01:15. | :01:19.
superjumbo planes are also serviced. That would safeguard hundreds of | :01:19. | :01:23.
jobs. The company was speaking as the | :01:23. | :01:29.
first Airbus A380 touched down at Cardiff. Live to our business | :01:29. | :01:39.
:01:39. | :01:46. | ||
(inaudible) We forget a lot of people work here at Cardiff airport, | :01:46. | :01:50.
specifically at the British Airways maintenance facility where there's | :01:50. | :01:55.
800 staff. For them they had an historic day today, as the world's | :01:55. | :02:02.
largest passenger aircraft flew in. BA's Airbus A380. They got up close | :02:02. | :02:06.
and were given the opportunity to see that new aircraft as it came in. | :02:06. | :02:12.
They were given a taster, but the real prize for the staff is the | :02:12. | :02:18.
prospect of long-term maintenance contracts. | :02:18. | :02:23.
With its unmistakably high tail fin and curved Welsh-made wings, the | :02:23. | :02:27.
Airbus A380 touched down at Cardiff, the biggest aircraft ever to have | :02:27. | :02:33.
landed at the airport. BA has become the first British airline to order | :02:33. | :02:39.
the super upbows. Before commercial flights start in September, this was | :02:39. | :02:42.
a practice diversion and an opportunity to show the hundreds of | :02:42. | :02:47.
staff at the maintenance centre in Cardiff. They already maintain BA's | :02:47. | :02:51.
biggest planes here. A decision will be made over the next two years | :02:51. | :02:55.
whether that will include the A380s in future. It's a decision we'll | :02:55. | :03:01.
make when the time is right. We'll look t the competitive landscape. | :03:01. | :03:05.
there a chance it will come to Cardiff? There's always a chance. We | :03:05. | :03:11.
have great skills base and a great workforce, fantastic work ethic. At | :03:11. | :03:17.
the end of the day, it will be a rational business decision. This | :03:17. | :03:19.
aeroplane will need facility investment and the like. We'll have | :03:20. | :03:23.
to make that decision at the right time. Board staff were given the | :03:23. | :03:28.
chance to see for themselves the inside of the aircraft. The other | :03:28. | :03:34.
thing next to it are a couple of cameras. Zblt Cardiff-born pilot | :03:34. | :03:42.
learned to fly 30 years ago on gliders at nearby Stagen. Technology | :03:42. | :03:48.
has moved on. The wings, for example, they're 50% bigger area | :03:48. | :03:55.
than on a jumbo. It's incredibly quiet. For our customers it's quiet | :03:55. | :04:01.
inside. There are just under 500 seats on this plane. That's about a | :04:01. | :04:05.
third more than you'll find on a 747. It's here at the back of the | :04:05. | :04:09.
aircraft thaw get a real sense of the scale of it, particularly with | :04:09. | :04:14.
this staircase. That takes me to the upper deck. | :04:14. | :04:22.
This Gooly area for the cabin -- Gooly area -- gally area for the | :04:22. | :04:29.
cabin crew. BA gave the best indication yet that the maintenance | :04:29. | :04:33.
work on the Dreamliner would be coming to Cardiff. This could be | :04:33. | :04:39.
significant as BA's Dreamliner fleet will be more than 40 strong. So the | :04:39. | :04:42.
world's largest and most advanced passenger planes could be flying in | :04:43. | :04:48.
and out of Cardiff to be maintained. But could any be taking passengers | :04:48. | :04:53.
in the future? As part of efforts to restructure air travel across the | :04:53. | :04:58.
UK, one group of academics and business leaders have put together | :04:58. | :05:02.
proposals to develop long-haul services out of Cardiff. The future | :05:02. | :05:07.
of the airport is really about long-haul flights. It's got a | :05:07. | :05:12.
fantastic opportunity with a long runway to actual actually have | :05:12. | :05:16.
bigger aircraft landing and taking off from Cardiff, especially for the | :05:16. | :05:19.
transatlantic flight to New York. There's a huge catchment area for | :05:19. | :05:24.
that particular flight. If planes of this size are ever going to carry | :05:24. | :05:28.
passengers out of Cardiff, it's certainly a long way off. The most | :05:28. | :05:33.
realistic hope in the medium term at least is that Welsh engineers | :05:33. | :05:41.
service them instead. It was announced today that a new | :05:41. | :05:44.
express bus service will take passengers from the city centre of | :05:44. | :05:48.
Cardiff every 20 minutes from early in the morning to late at night. The | :05:48. | :05:52.
idea is to boost passenger numbers. At its peak this airport had more | :05:52. | :05:56.
than two million passengers. Last year that number fell to just over a | :05:56. | :06:00.
million. Since then, of course, the Welsh Government has bought this | :06:00. | :06:06.
airport. So we've been asking potential passengers what would make | :06:06. | :06:11.
this airport more attractive to them. It's pointless looking at | :06:11. | :06:16.
Cardiff. You'll have to change or something. You haven't got the | :06:16. | :06:21.
long-haul flights. We work abroad a lot. For us, getting from Cardiff | :06:21. | :06:25.
would be very convenient. We spend a lot of time, even the short-haul | :06:25. | :06:31.
stuff to Europe is actually a lot more expensive from Cardiff in a lot | :06:31. | :06:36.
of circumstances than going to Stansted or Heathrow. It would be | :06:36. | :06:41.
good for Cardiff itself, where more people have a chance of going better | :06:41. | :06:48.
places. I'm joined by the chief executive of the airport John Horn. | :06:48. | :06:54.
A lot has been going on today. Let's start with the A380. What does it | :06:54. | :06:57.
mean for Cardiff airport the fact that it can land here? It's a | :06:57. | :07:00.
feather in our cap. There's only a handful of airports in the UK that | :07:00. | :07:05.
can take this, the largest passenger carrying aircraft in the world. And | :07:05. | :07:10.
operationally, it means a great deal for us. I mentioned in the item | :07:10. | :07:16.
there that people will see some of the most desirable and advanced | :07:16. | :07:20.
passenger aeroplanes flying in and out to be maintained. What are the | :07:20. | :07:23.
prospects of passengers flying long haul from the airport? Long-term, we | :07:23. | :07:27.
think that opportunity exists. That's driven by market. That's what | :07:27. | :07:32.
we're focussed on. It's not just the 380. There are planes that would | :07:32. | :07:35.
suit those markets. We're talking to airlines across the board at the | :07:35. | :07:38.
moment. Some of those things we believe will come about in the | :07:38. | :07:45.
future. What are you focussed on? What's in your in-tray? Really, what | :07:45. | :07:48.
we're focussing on is what those people have been saying to you - we | :07:49. | :07:52.
want more services to Europe. We want more holiday destinations, more | :07:52. | :07:56.
business flights. We're looking at that and what we've been able to do | :07:56. | :08:01.
already is achieve some of those. We have a fantastic new schedule with | :08:01. | :08:05.
Aer Lingus operating over Dublin into the US with fantastic | :08:05. | :08:15.
:08:15. | :08:16. | ||
time-saving connections. We've got extra capacity from chart charter | :08:16. | :08:20.
operators themselves. Finally, there's been a lot of criticism | :08:20. | :08:23.
about the connections to this airport. What difference will the | :08:23. | :08:27.
new bus link make today? It will be significant. High frequency, every | :08:27. | :08:32.
20 minutes, it's a very high quality bus, with leather seats and WiFi. | :08:32. | :08:36.
It's the right sort of connection that enables not just passengers | :08:36. | :08:41.
travelling out from the airport, but passengers that are flying in from | :08:41. | :08:45.
other places Germany for instance, with lustancea's flight on | :08:45. | :08:50.
Saturdays, that's -- Lufthansa's flighted on Saturdays, that bus will | :08:50. | :08:54.
be important to them. From a very busy day at the terminal | :08:54. | :08:58.
here, back to you. The public services ombudsman for | :08:58. | :09:02.
Wales has recommended The Health Board, which runs the Princess of | :09:02. | :09:05.
Wales hospital in Bridgend, apologise to the family of an | :09:05. | :09:08.
elderly woman and pay compensation following failures in her care. The | :09:08. | :09:12.
Health Board has accepted the recommendations. The 82-year-old | :09:12. | :09:17.
died days after being admitted to A & E. It comes Dales after a BBC | :09:17. | :09:20.
Wales investigation uncovered allegations that an elderly patient | :09:20. | :09:24.
was repeatedly neglected at the same hospital. That sparked calls for a | :09:24. | :09:27.
public inquiry. A man and a woman have been remanded | :09:27. | :09:33.
in custody following the death of a man outside a pub on Thursday night. | :09:33. | :09:37.
The pub's manager, Tracy Jones and Anthony Smith, have both been | :09:37. | :09:42.
charged with manslaughter after 54-year-old Paul Blackledge died in | :09:42. | :09:45.
hospital. They will appear in court next week. | :09:45. | :09:51.
A workman, who died while removing asbestos, may have been leak | :09:51. | :09:57.
tricuted. 26-year-old James Pull died at the site ten days ago. The | :09:57. | :10:00.
Coroner heard he suffered cardiac arrest while working in ceiling | :10:00. | :10:07.
space. The school was forced to close over safety fears. The Coroner | :10:07. | :10:10.
has adjourned the investigation until October. | :10:10. | :10:13.
Holiday homes or permanent homes? Thousands of people along the Welsh | :10:13. | :10:18.
coast are living in static caravans all year round, although they are | :10:18. | :10:22.
not permitted to do. So now there are calls for the rules to be | :10:22. | :10:26.
tightened. Our coastline is crowded with | :10:26. | :10:29.
caravan parks and most of them provide the perfect chance to get | :10:29. | :10:34.
away from it all for a few weeks a year. Many are breaking the rules | :10:34. | :10:37.
and living on such parks all year round. They don't pay council tax | :10:38. | :10:42.
but use many local services. Darren miller says it's time to get tough. | :10:42. | :10:46.
What we want to do is to improve the regulatory framework, make it easier | :10:46. | :10:51.
for local authorities to enforce, tougher the penalties for people who | :10:51. | :10:55.
break the law and make sure that this is a phenomenon which we nip in | :10:55. | :11:01.
the bud so we can actually have and ennigh a -- enjoy a wonderful | :11:01. | :11:09.
industry for generations to come. The current laws on caravanning date | :11:09. | :11:14.
to 1960 and Darren says it's time to update them to fit what is now a | :11:14. | :11:18.
multimillion pound industry. Nearly two million stay in private caravan | :11:18. | :11:24.
holiday homes each year. Half a million rent while 450,000 use | :11:24. | :11:30.
touring caravans. Conwy alone is estimated to have 5 5,000 people | :11:30. | :11:35.
living in caravans the whole time. With caravanning making up a large | :11:35. | :11:41.
proportion of tourism income, you can understand why we don't want to | :11:41. | :11:48.
alienate those who want to come. Andy runs Treetop Park near holly | :11:48. | :11:52.
well. We do check on the residences of our customers to make sure | :11:52. | :11:57.
they're not living here. We monitor usage. We're here every day as | :11:57. | :12:02.
owners of the park. We would know if someone was living here. In the case | :12:02. | :12:06.
of our area where we're open for ten-and-a-half months, we ask for | :12:06. | :12:10.
three proofs of residence and the park license clearly details the way | :12:10. | :12:17.
that the caravan can and can't be used. Some arg unite new law could | :12:17. | :12:20.
force legitimate caravanners to ditch their pitch and turn their | :12:20. | :12:25.
back on Wales. People are urged to have their say over the next few | :12:25. | :12:28.
weeks. A man charged with arson following a | :12:28. | :12:32.
fire which destroyed a Poundstretcher store in May has been | :12:32. | :12:37.
remanded in custody. The 27-year-old Stephen Powell will appear before | :12:37. | :12:40.
the Crown Court next month. It closed part of the main street in | :12:40. | :12:44.
the town and took six hours to bring under control. | :12:44. | :12:47.
Controversial plans for an egg factory housing more than 17,000 | :12:47. | :12:52.
chickens are due to be discussed by Wrexham Council. The development has | :12:52. | :12:55.
been recommended for approval despite concerns over the noise and | :12:55. | :13:01.
smell. If the plans go ahead, 400 tons of manure would need to be | :13:01. | :13:06.
cleaned out every 60 weeks, which would be used as fertiliser on niche | :13:06. | :13:11.
land. Can there be too man many bars in | :13:11. | :13:15.
one place? That's what Swansea Council is asking. There are | :13:15. | :13:18.
currently more than 250 licenses premises there. With alcohol-related | :13:18. | :13:22.
crime on the rise, the leader of the council says something must be done. | :13:22. | :13:29.
The council is due to debate a new policy on curbing the number of life | :13:29. | :13:36.
senses handed out tomorrow. Another lively night out in Swansea. | :13:36. | :13:41.
Revellers from near and far. The seemingly never ending choices of | :13:42. | :13:45.
bars and clubs making it a popular destination for hen and stag | :13:45. | :13:50.
parties. Has the city's night life Spiralled out of control? There are | :13:50. | :13:57.
currently more than 250 licensed premises in the city centre. Last | :13:57. | :14:04.
year there were nearly a thousand alcohol-related incidents on Wine | :14:04. | :14:10.
Street alone. The cost of policing that was nearly 600,000. The leader | :14:10. | :14:14.
of the County Council says enough is enough and says it's time to limit | :14:14. | :14:20.
the number of licenses handed out. . It's about being able to maintain | :14:20. | :14:25.
the street as a place of fun and safe entertainment, but recognising | :14:25. | :14:29.
with people living in the city centre they have rights in terms of | :14:29. | :14:33.
what happens in the city centre in the evening. At the moment, when an | :14:33. | :14:38.
application is made for a license to sell alcohol, the presumption is | :14:38. | :14:42.
that it will be granted. Under the new proposals if there are concerns | :14:42. | :14:48.
a new bar or club would have a Negative -- would have a negative | :14:48. | :14:53.
impact on the city centre, then the applicant has to prove it wouldn't | :14:53. | :14:59.
be the case. Here in Swansea giving places like Wine Street, already | :14:59. | :15:02.
packed with licensed premises, there's a feeling it's too little | :15:02. | :15:06.
too late. Steve George say manager at one of the bars on the street. | :15:06. | :15:13.
He's got another idea. With Wine Street, the need to pedestrianise it | :15:13. | :15:19.
and bring a cafe culture and encourage people to come and eat and | :15:19. | :15:23.
drink will change the demographic of people coming here. You know older, | :15:23. | :15:28.
more responsible people coming into town as a consequence. The council | :15:28. | :15:34.
will discuss the presence of sex entertainment venues in Swansea, | :15:34. | :15:38.
with the leader hoping it will be possible to ban any opening in the | :15:38. | :15:40.
city centre. Both policies will be debated tomorrow evening. | :15:41. | :15:44.
Much more to come before 7pm: Including a full weather forecast | :15:44. | :15:49.
and all of tonight's sport. One year on, we've been to catch up with | :15:49. | :15:52.
Aidan Reynolds the young Welsh javelin thrower who played a crucial | :15:52. | :16:02.
:16:02. | :16:04. | ||
part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. | :16:04. | :16:07.
The World Swimming Championships are under way in Barcelona. Ashley is | :16:07. | :16:15.
here with all the sport. Yes,. 014 was all that separated | :16:16. | :16:23.
jazz Carlin from a medal last night. She finished an agonising fourth | :16:23. | :16:27.
place in the race. It's a brilliant return to form for a swimmer who | :16:27. | :16:32.
missed the London Olympics after suffering grand lar fever. She could | :16:32. | :16:37.
yet win a medal this week. Walking out for a World Championship | :16:37. | :16:42.
final is a fine achievement for any swimmer. But it was all the sweeter | :16:42. | :16:49.
for Jazz Carlin. She missed out on a home Olympics after illness left her | :16:49. | :16:52.
unable to trained properly before the Games. 12 months on and it's a | :16:52. | :16:55.
different story. She's new a real contender. Last night in Barcelona, | :16:55. | :16:59.
she competed in the first of three events, the final of the 400m | :16:59. | :17:05.
freestyle. The shortest of her three events is | :17:05. | :17:12.
also, in theory, her weakest. She came within a whisker of a medal. | :17:12. | :17:17.
Just 014 of a second separated her from the bronze. She smashed the | :17:17. | :17:20.
Welsh record too. Jazz spoke to Wales Today before heading to Spain. | :17:20. | :17:23.
Then she was confident she was in the best form of her life. This year | :17:23. | :17:27.
I've come back. I've had a solid block of training, which I think has | :17:27. | :17:32.
really paid off and showed in my racing. I've never had that winter | :17:32. | :17:35.
block without illness or injury free. Yeah, I think that's | :17:35. | :17:39.
definitely showed in my racing and moving forward it's great to see my | :17:39. | :17:43.
times are what they are this year and hopefully I can go faster. | :17:43. | :17:47.
couldn't have been more different. She kept getting ill, missing hours | :17:47. | :17:50.
of vital training. Ultimately it stopped her from qualifying for the | :17:51. | :17:54.
Olympics. It was the lowest point in her | :17:54. | :17:58.
career. While others went to London, she had her tonsils out. It gave her | :17:58. | :18:04.
time to reflect and she's now focussing on long ere vents like the | :18:04. | :18:08.
800 and 1500m, which her coach believes are better suited to her. | :18:08. | :18:12.
She wouldn't be the swimmer she is today. That's the hard truth. If she | :18:12. | :18:15.
hadn't gotten sick and missed the Olympics, she wouldn't have had the | :18:15. | :18:20.
same motivation. She might have had her tonsils out, I'm not sure she | :18:20. | :18:25.
would have done the distance training she has. This morning she | :18:25. | :18:30.
failed to qualify for the final of the gruelling 1500m event. But her | :18:30. | :18:36.
best chance of a medal should come in the 800m on Saturday. | :18:36. | :18:39.
Football and speculation is continuing about the future of | :18:39. | :18:44.
Gareth Bale and a potential world record move to Real Madrid. The | :18:44. | :18:48.
chairman of Tottenham is adamant the Wales international won't be sold, | :18:48. | :18:51.
despite the player indicating he wants to speak to the Spanish giants | :18:51. | :18:56.
about a move that could be worth more than 80 million. Cardiff City | :18:56. | :19:06.

have appointed club director and merch ant bank Memhet Dalman. Last | :19:09. | :19:16.
week, former own owner Sam Haman was made honorary president after the | :19:16. | :19:20.
backer said a long standing debt had been written off. | :19:20. | :19:24.
Swansea City are preparing for a return to European competition. The | :19:24. | :19:30.
swans host mall mow in the Europa League -- Malmo in the Europa | :19:30. | :19:34.
League. It's very, very important for the | :19:34. | :19:44.
team and for the club and for the fans. I think that the first test is | :19:44. | :19:49.
Thursday against a very big opportunity for everybody. If it's | :19:49. | :19:55.
possible to play, I'm very excited. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this | :19:55. | :19:59.
competition. We'll have all the build up this week. The operators of | :19:59. | :20:03.
the Millennium Stadium have all but ruled out rebuilding its two-tier | :20:03. | :20:07.
north stand to complete three tiers around the ground. Sources have told | :20:07. | :20:10.
BBC Wales that the cost of rove building the stand would not be | :20:10. | :20:14.
recouped for only a limited improvement to the capacity. The | :20:14. | :20:20.
stand is the only surviving part of the old National Stadium which backs | :20:20. | :20:23.
on onto Cardiff Arms Park's club ground. | :20:23. | :20:29.
Simon Jones is in the Glamorgan squad for their T20 match tomorrow. | :20:29. | :20:33.
The Ashes winner hasn't played since May due it a shoulder injury. A win | :20:33. | :20:38.
for Glamorgan will see them qualify for the T20 quarter finals. | :20:38. | :20:42.
Now it's a year since the Olympics, an event that impacted millions of | :20:42. | :20:46.
people in all sorts of different ways. Tonight in the first of a | :20:46. | :20:51.
series of reports, we've been to catch up with Aidan Reynolds, a | :20:51. | :20:54.
young Welsh javelin thrower who played a crucial part in the opening | :20:54. | :20:59.
ceremony. Aidan, based in Telford, was picked to light the flame. 12 | :20:59. | :21:03.
months on he's still using it as motivation as he chases his own | :21:03. | :21:09.
ambitions. With the world watching, it was a | :21:09. | :21:13.
moment that stunned Aidan's family and friends, sworn to seekericy he | :21:13. | :21:18.
hadn't been able to tell anyone about it. This was the moment last | :21:18. | :21:22.
summer when he, with six other young British athletes, carried the | :21:22. | :21:26.
Olympic flame around the stadium before lighting the cauldron. 12 | :21:26. | :21:31.
months on he speaks of that day with disbelief. It was just unbelievable. | :21:31. | :21:36.
We were sat there, the six of us and Danny Boyle comes in and tells us | :21:36. | :21:39.
what his idea is about inspiring a generation and for about three | :21:39. | :21:44.
minutes, there was just silence. No-one knew what to say. We were | :21:44. | :21:50.
just laughing. We didn't think, we were like "Is that actually true? | :21:50. | :21:56.
Young javelin thrower Aidan Reynolds is nominated by Lynn Davies CBE. | :21:56. | :22:00.
Aidan's been representing Wales since a schoolboy. His talent and | :22:00. | :22:03.
potential has been recognised by Lynn Davies for some time. Last | :22:03. | :22:07.
year, the passing of the torch similar blielzed former champions | :22:07. | :22:15.
passing on their legacy to future stars. Aidan's parents knew he was | :22:15. | :22:21.
involved but had no idea how big his role would be. The lights went down | :22:21. | :22:28.
and we saw seven people and we knew it was going to be crazy. It was | :22:28. | :22:32.
nonstop phoning for quite some time. After about five minutes the people | :22:32. | :22:36.
next door were knocking on the window with a lot of champagne. | :22:36. | :22:40.
a lot of screaming and a lot of tears. It was a very good night. | :22:40. | :22:44.
Months on Aidan has completed his first year at Oxford studying | :22:44. | :22:48.
physics. During the summer it's dad overseeing his daily training, | :22:48. | :22:53.
keeping him on the right road. And this is where his heart lies, | :22:53. | :22:57.
throwing the javelin. Studying with exams, moving 100 miles from home | :22:57. | :23:01.
and with his coach based in Loughborough, it's been a tough | :23:01. | :23:07.
year. But his dedication is easy to see. Last summer, he was through the | :23:07. | :23:11.
into the limelight. 12 months on, his aims are clear: The Commonwealth | :23:12. | :23:16.
Games next year and then Rio. Definitely. It's a long way to get. | :23:16. | :23:24.
There that's definitely the dream at the moment. 68. 77 is my PB at the | :23:24. | :23:28.
moment. At the beginning of this season I would have thought I would | :23:28. | :23:31.
have thrown further. I've had a tough year. So I can't complain. | :23:31. | :23:34.
Being on the biggest stage in the brightest spotlight, now it's time | :23:34. | :23:41.
for Aidan to shine on his own terms. Ever since I did the opening | :23:41. | :23:45.
ceremony, I told myself, I want to be there again, but as an athlete. | :23:45. | :23:50.
That's definitely the dream. , as part of our series, a year on from | :23:50. | :23:55.
London 2012, we'll hear from some of the Welsh medallists and finding out | :23:55. | :23:58.
whether Olympic success changed their lives. Winning the Olympics | :23:58. | :24:04.
has changed my life. I think it's just made me grow up a lot more. | :24:04. | :24:08.
Yeah, I've still got so much more experience to get, now because I'm | :24:09. | :24:13.
Olympic champion, there's a lot of pressure coming from everywhere to | :24:13. | :24:17.
expect me to be the best and winning everything. In terms of personal | :24:18. | :24:22.
sponsorship it's not really helped. But everyone says a year after the | :24:22. | :24:26.
Games, everyone is looking at different directions and then three | :24:26. | :24:30.
years out people look at the Games again. That's tomorrow. I'm done for | :24:30. | :24:32.
tonight. Let's see what the weather has in | :24:33. | :24:36.
store. store. | :24:36. | :24:39.
Derek, a mixed bag? Yes, very mixed indeed. A few places | :24:39. | :24:44.
were lucky today and stayed dry. Others have had a drenching with big | :24:44. | :24:47.
towering clouds, heavy down pours and thunder storms as well. The | :24:47. | :24:51.
showers show up really well on the radar, moving North Eastwards across | :24:52. | :24:58.
the country today. Some heavy down pours for example. Sunshine in | :24:58. | :25:03.
Swansea. This evening then scattered heavy showers will move away. A few | :25:03. | :25:07.
showers overnight in the south and west. Other-wise it's a dry picture. | :25:07. | :25:12.
Lowest temperatures 12 to 16 Celsius. Here's the picture for the | :25:12. | :25:16.
morning, a cloudy start in the south. A little rain likely for | :25:16. | :25:21.
Barry, Cardiff and Newported. Further north, plenty of cloud for | :25:21. | :25:27.
Powys and Ceredigion, a few showers. It's nice and bright on the north | :25:27. | :25:30.
coast. During the day, rain in the south will move away. It will start | :25:31. | :25:36.
to brighten up. A few sharp showers likely in the afternoon. The best of | :25:36. | :25:39.
the sunshine in the north. Some places are dry. The wind is lighter | :25:39. | :25:43.
than today with temperatures similar with the West to South Westerly | :25:43. | :25:46.
breeze. If you're head together cricket in Cardiff tomorrow evening, | :25:46. | :25:50.
good news, it should be dry with a breeze. Elsewhere any showers will | :25:50. | :25:55.
fade away. Dry for a while, but it won't last. Rain spreads from the | :25:55. | :25:59.
south-west after midnight. Into Wednesday, cloudy, outbreaks of | :25:59. | :26:03.
rain, spreading their way northwards. The rain heaviest in the | :26:03. | :26:07.
north and west. Mist, hill hand coastal fog. Should turn drier later | :26:07. | :26:11.
in the south. Into Thursday, much brighter, brightening up with some | :26:11. | :26:15.
sunshine. Very warm as well and feeling humid with a south-easterly | :26:15. | :26:21.
breeze. Temperatures back into the mid-to high 20s. Showers possible in | :26:21. | :26:26.
the north. Later in the west showers could be thundery. Friday is warm | :26:26. | :26:30.
and breezy. The chance of a few showers and some sunshine. July was | :26:30. | :26:34.
on course to be one of the driest on record, but not any more. There is | :26:35. | :26:39.
more rain on the way. Tropical on Thursday, but by the weekend, cool | :26:39. | :26:45.
and fresher with sunny spells and showers. Our picture tonight is from | :26:45. | :26:49.
Paul Dyer, tower towering clouds, a sign of unstable air and heavy | :26:49. | :26:52.
sign of unstable air and heavy showers. | :26:52. | :26:56.
The headlines again: British Airways says there's a chance they could | :26:56. | :27:00.
carry out the maintenance of its super jumbo passenger planes from | :27:00. | :27:06.
its base at Cardiff Airport. Today the company's first A380 touched | :27:06. | :27:10.
down in Cardiff on a test flight. The airport's chief executive told | :27:11. | :27:14.
us it's looking to develop long-haul services. We think long-term that | :27:14. | :27:18.
opportunity exists. That's driven by markets and clearly, that's what | :27:18. | :27:22.
we're focussing on the it's not just the 380. There are lots of | :27:23. | :27:25.
aeroplanes that suit those markets. We're talking to airlines across the | :27:25. | :27:28.
board at the moment. Some of those things we believe will come about in | :27:28. | :27:33.
the future. We'll have an update for you here at | :27:33. | :27:37.
8pm and I'm back after the BBC News at 10pm. That's Wales Today. Thanks | :27:37. | :27:40. |
