Our top story. Not enough staff to do its job | :00:14. | :00:17.
properly - a health watchdog warns it can't be sure that failings | :00:18. | :00:20.
leading to deaths in England aren't happening here. | :00:21. | :00:37.
It cost taxpayers ?48,000 - the wind turbine bought by the Welsh | :00:38. | :00:44.
Government. It could take 400 years for it to make its money back. | :00:45. | :00:48.
Over 40 and overweight - the growing number of middle aged people who are | :00:49. | :00:51.
obese and don't realise it. Putting thousand of years of history | :00:52. | :00:54.
at your fingertips - the new app pioneered in Wales. | :00:55. | :01:04.
And the ?30,000 prize on offer for some young writers. We are live at | :01:05. | :01:09.
the Dylan Thomas Prize in Swansea tonight. | :01:10. | :01:12.
Wales' health watchdog says it cannot be certain that a situation | :01:13. | :01:16.
similar to a scandal which led to the deaths of hundreds of hospital | :01:17. | :01:19.
patients in England is not happening here. The head of health care | :01:20. | :01:24.
Inspectorate Wales told Assembly Members that she doesn't have enough | :01:25. | :01:29.
staff to do the job. The Health Minister says he's concerned. James | :01:30. | :01:36.
Williams reports. Failings at Stafford Hospital led to | :01:37. | :01:40.
the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of patients. It shook the English | :01:41. | :01:45.
NHS but its tremors are also being felt in Wales. Despite their not | :01:46. | :01:50.
being a scandal this side of the border, they have been a series of | :01:51. | :01:54.
failings this year which have been a cause for concern. In March, | :01:55. | :02:00.
hospital consultants warned that Accident and Emergency departments | :02:01. | :02:11.
were at the point of meltdown. And just last week, the Health Minister | :02:12. | :02:15.
ordered a review into one health board following the serious neglect | :02:16. | :02:23.
at two of its hospitals. Issues of concern for the health care | :02:24. | :02:29.
Inspectorate Wales. It is the subject of a review by Assembly | :02:30. | :02:36.
Members. My concern at the moment in teams of being able to give you the | :02:37. | :02:41.
assurance you want is that I am not concerned -- convinced we have | :02:42. | :02:45.
enough coverage in terms of testing to give you that strong assurance. | :02:46. | :02:51.
The watchdog said staffing issues could not allow it to carry | :02:52. | :02:56.
sufficient tests. It is an issue for the Health Minister will stop to you | :02:57. | :03:03.
have any concerns about the capacity to carry out the functions that you | :03:04. | :03:09.
require for it to provide the service that you want from an | :03:10. | :03:15.
independent inspectorate? I have had concerns about its capacity in the | :03:16. | :03:20.
last year. Those concerns have more been about its ability to recruit | :03:21. | :03:27.
and retain the staff it needs to discharge those responsibilities | :03:28. | :03:29.
than it has been about the financial resource. The Health Minister | :03:30. | :03:36.
answered today's questions regarding the watchdog but with others asking | :03:37. | :03:40.
whether it is fit for purpose, the questioning may have only just | :03:41. | :03:41.
begun. In some breaking news this evening, | :03:42. | :03:46.
it's been confirmed that Cardiff Royal Infirmary is one of a number | :03:47. | :03:49.
of hospitals being investigated following revelations about the | :03:50. | :03:52.
former Radio 1 DJ Jimmy Savile. Our reporter Carl Roberts joins me. What | :03:53. | :03:59.
have we learned tonight? Some breaking news. Back in October the | :04:00. | :04:03.
Health Secretary in England confirmed that there were a number | :04:04. | :04:08.
of enquiries on going into Jimmy Savile's offending, 13 of them. It | :04:09. | :04:12.
has transpired today that one of these relates to Cardiff Royal | :04:13. | :04:17.
infirmary. Disclosure has been made in a written answer to. It says that | :04:18. | :04:25.
Cardiff Royal infirmary is one of 13 hospitals around the country | :04:26. | :04:31.
currently under investigation. The hospital has been open since 1883, | :04:32. | :04:35.
it is undergoing a ?33 million revamp. It is very well known to | :04:36. | :04:45.
people in Cardiff. Thank you very much for that. The latest on that | :04:46. | :04:48.
story this evening. The majority of people in Wales will | :04:49. | :04:52.
be obese in 30 years. That's the warning tonight from a leading | :04:53. | :04:56.
doctor. It comes as new research found nearly two-thirds of people in | :04:57. | :04:59.
their early 40s here are either overweight or obese. The study by | :05:00. | :05:03.
the University of London suggests nearly half of men are overweight, | :05:04. | :05:07.
compared to a third of women. So, why aren't warnings about obesity | :05:08. | :05:10.
getting-through? We sent Caroline Evans to Ebbw Vale to find out. | :05:11. | :05:20.
Back in the 1970s when Ebbw Vale was a steel town, food and plenty of it | :05:21. | :05:24.
was just what was needed at the end of a hard day's work. But for the | :05:25. | :05:30.
children who grew up back then, life now is different, but old habits die | :05:31. | :05:36.
hard. Big portions for affordable prices. People around here want to | :05:37. | :05:41.
eat some big portions. Some health professionals believe that as a | :05:42. | :05:45.
nation our perception is training and perhaps we no longer see | :05:46. | :05:49.
ourselves the way others see us. With a minimum amount of science, we | :05:50. | :05:53.
asked people here to test their knowledge and judge their own | :05:54. | :05:57.
weight. Do you know how much you weigh? 16.5 stone. Have a go. What | :05:58. | :06:11.
does it say? 17. Surprised? A little bit. I have got to lose some weight | :06:12. | :06:16.
before Christmas. Looking at people around the town, they all seem to be | :06:17. | :06:21.
well fed. How accurate do you think you are? Within a field pounds. But | :06:22. | :06:29.
I am always watching my weight. I think a lot of women do. I think we | :06:30. | :06:36.
are all dieting in some form or another. That is not right. That is | :06:37. | :06:47.
it, I am going! The only NHS funded weight management clinic in Wales is | :06:48. | :06:52.
held in Ebbw Vale. This doctor runs it and today he was chairing a | :06:53. | :06:55.
conference in Wrexham around the issues. He says it is not just a | :06:56. | :07:03.
middle-aged problem. In 35 years, we might find that the majority of the | :07:04. | :07:08.
publishing are overweight or obese. And we have a problem with children. | :07:09. | :07:15.
More than 25% of our children are overweight or obese. It is a true | :07:16. | :07:25.
epidemic. We are having to halt the programme of that epidemic. The | :07:26. | :07:30.
Welsh government says its approach is to enable people to make | :07:31. | :07:34.
healthier choices and it has put programmes in place to support | :07:35. | :07:38.
that, in particular targeting middle-aged men. Today's findings | :07:39. | :07:42.
will be presented to the Department of Health. | :07:43. | :07:44.
Dr Alice Sullivan who carried out the research joins me now from | :07:45. | :07:48.
London. A leading doctor has told us he predicts most people in Wales | :07:49. | :07:52.
will be obese in 30 years' time. We all know junk food and no exercise | :07:53. | :07:56.
is bad for us. Why aren't health warnings having any affect? We are | :07:57. | :08:04.
already seeing that among men that around 70% are low weight -- | :08:05. | :08:12.
overweight or obese. It is becoming unusual for men to have a normal | :08:13. | :08:20.
BMI. It is only around a third who have a healthy weight. Part of the | :08:21. | :08:29.
reason the message is not getting through, particularly for men, is | :08:30. | :08:33.
that they don't realise they are overweight and that is one thing we | :08:34. | :08:38.
found. About a third of the overweight men thought they were | :08:39. | :08:40.
about the right weight and about half of obese men thought they were | :08:41. | :08:45.
only slightly overweight. If they don't realise they are overweight, | :08:46. | :08:49.
it is quite likely they are not going to respond to health messages. | :08:50. | :08:55.
Wipe you think more men are overweight? There are quite strong | :08:56. | :09:02.
social pressures on women to be a particular weight and sometimes that | :09:03. | :09:05.
is seen as a problem and in some ways it can be a problem, but in | :09:06. | :09:09.
another way the lack of pressure on men to be a healthy weight does have | :09:10. | :09:15.
implications to because being overweight is linked to all sorts of | :09:16. | :09:18.
health problems and particularly for men over 35. Cardiovascular disease | :09:19. | :09:25.
is the leading cause of death. Thank you very much. | :09:26. | :09:29.
The number of cases of measles in Neath and Swansea has more than | :09:30. | :09:32.
doubled in the last two weeks. 36 people now have the illness. Public | :09:33. | :09:38.
Health officials are urging parents to give their children both doses of | :09:39. | :09:41.
the MMR vaccine to stop it spreading. | :09:42. | :09:44.
Fire crews have spent a second day tackling a blaze at a recycling | :09:45. | :09:47.
centre in the Vale of Glamorgan. Around 20 fire-fighters are still at | :09:48. | :09:51.
the Site-serve centre in Llandow, where a fire broke out Tuesday | :09:52. | :09:54.
evening. Fears that asbestos could be burning at the site have proved | :09:55. | :09:58.
to be unfounded. Food worth ?610 million is thrown | :09:59. | :10:01.
away in Wales every year, according to a new report. The recycling | :10:02. | :10:05.
group, Waste and Resources Action Programme, says 210,000 tonnes of | :10:06. | :10:13.
food which could be eaten is dumped. It says buying too much, serving big | :10:14. | :10:15.
portions and confusion over best before labels were the main causes. | :10:16. | :10:24.
A wind turbine that cost the Welsh Government ?48,000 to buy and | :10:25. | :10:27.
install will take more than 400 years to recoup its cost. The | :10:28. | :10:31.
turbine, at the government's Aberystwyth office, has on average | :10:32. | :10:34.
been generating around five pounds worth of electricity per month. The | :10:35. | :10:39.
data was released following a freedom of information request. The | :10:40. | :10:41.
government blames mechanical problems and says it will review the | :10:42. | :10:45.
operation of the turbine with the relevant contractors. Craig Duggan | :10:46. | :10:52.
reports. This is the turbine. It is not part | :10:53. | :10:55.
of a large wind farm but stands on its own next to the Welsh government | :10:56. | :11:00.
offices in Aberystwyth. When the building opened in 2009, it was | :11:01. | :11:07.
lauded for its green credentials. It was rated as excellent for | :11:08. | :11:11.
sustainability by an independent assessor. But the turbine has | :11:12. | :11:15.
consistently performed below capacity. Its output has been | :11:16. | :11:19.
monitored since January 2012. Between then and July this year, the | :11:20. | :11:26.
turbine generated 400 -- 585 kilowatt hours of energy. It cost is | :11:27. | :11:32.
16p per kilowatt hour. On average, the turbine has been generating | :11:33. | :11:36.
?5.20 of Alec is 16p per kilowatt hour. On average, the turbine has | :11:37. | :11:38.
been generating ?5.20 of elegance visited the month. It cost the Welsh | :11:39. | :11:41.
government ?48,000 to buy and install. If it continues to generate | :11:42. | :11:45.
energy city at the current rate, it will take 452 years to offset the | :11:46. | :11:53.
price and cost of installation. The Conservatives say it raises | :11:54. | :11:55.
questions over the Welsh government's green credentials. It | :11:56. | :12:01.
is an embarrassing blunder by the government, it makes a mockery of | :12:02. | :12:05.
carbon management strategy, and it is a prime example of the Welsh | :12:06. | :12:09.
Labour government ticking boxes to make themselves look like they are | :12:10. | :12:14.
being green. One expert on renewable energy says the performance is far | :12:15. | :12:19.
from typical. A typical figure might be seven or eight years for payback | :12:20. | :12:23.
and then you have got the rest of the contract to make a profit. But | :12:24. | :12:28.
it does depend very much on the situation of exact location, the | :12:29. | :12:31.
wind speed particularly and the size of the machine. The government says | :12:32. | :12:36.
they have been mechanical problems with the turbine meaning that in the | :12:37. | :12:41.
period it measured the output it was operating well below capacity. | :12:42. | :12:45.
Repairs have been done to improve its performance. The manufacturers | :12:46. | :12:50.
say the location is the main reason for the poor performance. They said | :12:51. | :12:54.
prior to inspire bash installation it would be exposed to enough wind | :12:55. | :12:58.
to make it viable. You're watching Wales Today. Stay | :12:59. | :13:03.
with us. Plenty still ahead. He was in line for his first cap for | :13:04. | :13:07.
Wales but Eli Walker is ruled out of the game against South Africa. | :13:08. | :13:14.
And the writers in the running for one of the world's Richards awards, | :13:15. | :13:19.
the Dylan Thomas Prize, it will be presented in Swansea tonight. | :13:20. | :13:22.
Some of Wales' most eminent scientists will, for the first time, | :13:23. | :13:28.
work under the same roof with the opening of a new medical research | :13:29. | :13:31.
centre at Cardiff University. The ?30 million Haydn Ellis building | :13:32. | :13:34.
brings together world-leading experts in genetics, cancer and | :13:35. | :13:38.
mental health. It's claimed it will strengthen Cardiff and Wales' | :13:39. | :13:40.
reputation for world-class scientific research. Our health | :13:41. | :13:45.
correspondent Owain Clarke has the details. | :13:46. | :13:58.
Architecturally, it is state of the art. Clean lines and sharp edges for | :13:59. | :14:03.
those working at the cutting edge. Inside it also looks more like a | :14:04. | :14:07.
modern airport and that certainly impressed the science minister. I | :14:08. | :14:13.
think the space is wonderful because you feel you can go in and do | :14:14. | :14:17.
business but it is also very relaxed. You can see where people | :14:18. | :14:22.
can come together to communicate. But the most important thing is not | :14:23. | :14:26.
what it looks like, it is the fact it brings together teams of top | :14:27. | :14:31.
scientists that previously worked in different buildings. It is hoped | :14:32. | :14:34.
they can bounce off each other ideas and expertise, perhaps over a bite | :14:35. | :14:41.
to eat or a couple of copy. And you can find world renowned academics | :14:42. | :14:45.
around every corner. The genetic steam on the third floor recently | :14:46. | :14:50.
led a project that discovered 11 new genes that can cause Alzheimer's. We | :14:51. | :14:55.
create a critical mass of joint expertise and that takes you to | :14:56. | :15:00.
other levels. You really can do big science when you get these | :15:01. | :15:04.
scientists together. Wales is a small nation but we can do some | :15:05. | :15:10.
things very well. Downstairs you'll find the cancer specialists looking | :15:11. | :15:13.
for ways to switch off cells which they think are responsible for the | :15:14. | :15:19.
spread the disease. There is a secondary purpose to provide a | :15:20. | :15:22.
nurturing environment for early stage career scientists, the really | :15:23. | :15:26.
hot new scientist that are coming into the field. The building is | :15:27. | :15:34.
named after the university's late Deputy Vice Chancellor. He strongly | :15:35. | :15:37.
believed that scientists from different disciplines could work | :15:38. | :15:41.
better working together. It is a principle embodied by the new | :15:42. | :15:46.
building. You have got to break the old modes that people have got stuck | :15:47. | :15:51.
into and the other thing is that science these days, the important | :15:52. | :15:56.
questions need teams of people. But none of this would be possible | :15:57. | :16:02.
without the input of patients. It is all about getting people to come and | :16:03. | :16:07.
help with this research. Come along, be interviewed, answer some | :16:08. | :16:11.
questions, give blood samples and allow us to know about the | :16:12. | :16:16.
experience of illness. And with plans afoot to build a multi-million | :16:17. | :16:20.
pound brain imaging Centre next door, the aim is to attract more of | :16:21. | :16:24.
the brightest and best, which hopefully will you to treatments | :16:25. | :16:31.
that could help millions. The Royal Navy's HMS Severn is | :16:32. | :16:35.
visiting Newport. The offshore patrol vessel is twinned with the | :16:36. | :16:38.
city and will host school children over the next four days. The crew | :16:39. | :16:42.
will also take part in Newport's Remembrance Day parade on Sunday. | :16:43. | :16:47.
Newport, being stupid in maritime history, dating back to the 15th | :16:48. | :16:52.
century, and still today in the busy dock area, we have a direct link so | :16:53. | :16:57.
there is no better place than Newport. | :16:58. | :16:59.
A new million-pound accommodation block has been officially opened at | :17:00. | :17:03.
the Urdd Centre at Llangrannog in Ceredigion. The First Minister, | :17:04. | :17:05.
Carwyn Jones, opened the block which replaces the old wooden cabins. | :17:06. | :17:10.
It'll house 128 beds, bringing the number who can stay there to 520. | :17:11. | :17:16.
One of the world's biggest literary prizes will be awarded in Swansea | :17:17. | :17:21.
tonight. A poet from Aberystwyth is among seven young writers from | :17:22. | :17:24.
across the world, aiming to win the ?30,000 Dylan Thomas prize. Our arts | :17:25. | :17:29.
and media correspondent Huw Thomas is there. | :17:30. | :17:40.
It is an unusually grammar is -- glamorous event for the book world. | :17:41. | :17:45.
The Dylan Thomas Prize is a serious affair. Seven writers all under 30 | :17:46. | :17:50.
all competing for the Dylan Thomas Prize and a cheque for ?30,000. | :17:51. | :17:56.
Young writers inspiring the next generation. Two of the short listed | :17:57. | :17:59.
authors took their books to the classroom this week. They visit to | :18:00. | :18:05.
this club offensive was part of a packed schedule ahead of tonight's | :18:06. | :18:10.
awards ceremony. Jemma King is the only Welsh writer in the running, a | :18:11. | :18:14.
poet from Aberystwyth. The first collection of poems have earned her | :18:15. | :18:21.
a place on the short list. All of the schools we have been to so far | :18:22. | :18:25.
this week, one of the recurring question has been what book inspired | :18:26. | :18:30.
you when you were younger and all of the writers have really strong | :18:31. | :18:35.
anecdotes about that. I think that the question of influence is very | :18:36. | :18:41.
important. There are seven authors on the short list. They include | :18:42. | :18:44.
three novels, to poetry books and two corrections of short stories. | :18:45. | :18:49.
The writers come from America, India, England and Wales, all hoping | :18:50. | :18:53.
to take the prize home from Swansea tonight. They have been five prizes | :18:54. | :18:58.
presented since 2006 with previous winners coming from around the world | :18:59. | :19:01.
and only once has it stayed in Wales. The first-ever award was won | :19:02. | :19:08.
by Rachel who has gone on to earn a successful career as an author. The | :19:09. | :19:13.
award is presented in the name of the city's most famous literary | :19:14. | :19:17.
son. Next year will mark the centenary since the birth of Dylan, | :19:18. | :19:22.
and he remains a strong influence on writers the world over. The name | :19:23. | :19:28.
still opens doors and all seven writers who have come to Swansea | :19:29. | :19:32.
have talked about the prestige of the prize and have shown real pride | :19:33. | :19:37.
at being part of the programme. Dylan Tom is wrote some of his | :19:38. | :19:41.
greatest work in Swansea and tonight the city will honour one of the | :19:42. | :19:44.
young authors hoping to Emily his success. | :19:45. | :19:49.
There are just a couple of hours to go before the winner is revealed. | :19:50. | :19:53.
The panel of judges have been agonising over the short list and | :19:54. | :19:57.
then over the winner and I am delighted to say the chair of the | :19:58. | :20:01.
judging panel is with me now. How difficult a task was it for you to | :20:02. | :20:05.
pick a winner, without revealing who that is. Not at all, actually, just | :20:06. | :20:12.
for once. There was complete unanimity and I think we have got a | :20:13. | :20:16.
winner who stands comparison with anybody of any age. And with the | :20:17. | :20:21.
Dylan Thomas Prize to their name, what does that mean? We have had | :20:22. | :20:28.
five winners of this prize already. It is exalted company to set in. It | :20:29. | :20:33.
is given not in the name of a big corporate conglomerate but of one of | :20:34. | :20:37.
the world's greatest young achieving writers. For somebody under the age | :20:38. | :20:45.
of 32 have that is great. And you run the day festival, your life is | :20:46. | :20:49.
devoted to books. How important is it that these ceremonies exist? If | :20:50. | :20:58.
one more person today picks up some of these books because of these | :20:59. | :21:02.
wonderful young writers being here, and not just being in Swansea | :21:03. | :21:06.
tonight but being here throughout the last week, working in schools | :21:07. | :21:09.
and universities, that would be fantastic. A couple of hours until | :21:10. | :21:15.
the winner is revealed and they take on that check of ?30,000 and a best | :21:16. | :21:25.
of Dylan Thomas Prize said. In the past few minutes, Swansea | :21:26. | :21:30.
city have drawn with their Russian opponents in their Europa League | :21:31. | :21:33.
match. They made a strong start, scoring within the opening ten | :21:34. | :21:38.
minutes. But in the final minute, their opponents repeated history and | :21:39. | :21:41.
scored just as they did in the first leg. | :21:42. | :21:44.
Ospreys winger Eli Walker has been ruled out of Wales' match against | :21:45. | :21:47.
South Africa on Saturday after suffering a hamstring injury in | :21:48. | :21:50.
training this morning. The 21-year-old had been due to make his | :21:51. | :21:53.
Test debut against the Springboks at the Millennium Stadium. He's | :21:54. | :21:57.
replaced by Liam Williams from the Scarlets. | :21:58. | :22:06.
We will await the results of the scan and the likelihood is that he | :22:07. | :22:09.
will be available for the whole of the autumn series which is a blow to | :22:10. | :22:15.
us. He has come in with good form, we just feel so desperate and gutted | :22:16. | :22:23.
for the player himself. Today, Wales has become the first | :22:24. | :22:27.
country in the world to have all of its archaeological treasures | :22:28. | :22:29.
available on a mobile phone application. The Archwilio App holds | :22:30. | :22:32.
information on more than 100,000 archaeological sites here. It's been | :22:33. | :22:35.
designed by the University of South Wales. Here's Carwyn Jones. | :22:36. | :22:39.
The first century AD - Roman legions press on with their conquest of | :22:40. | :22:43.
Wales. In Carmarthenshire they set up base at what's now Dinefwr Park. | :22:44. | :22:48.
If you go down to those woods today, you won't find any visible signs of | :22:49. | :22:51.
Roman occupation. Not above ground anyway. But bring along your mobile | :22:52. | :22:56.
phone and you'll find a wealth of archaeology beneath the surface. | :22:57. | :23:00.
These are the remains of a huge Roman encampment unearthed by | :23:01. | :23:03.
archaeologists. This mobile phone app, called Archwilio, allows you | :23:04. | :23:06.
tap into the historic environment records for more than 100,000 | :23:07. | :23:11.
archaeological sites across Wales. It's the only technology of its kind | :23:12. | :23:20.
anywhere in the world. It is the first time that a country has | :23:21. | :23:25.
actually got all of the records for archaeology across the country | :23:26. | :23:28.
available on a single app that you can take out and hold in your hand. | :23:29. | :23:34.
No matter where you live in Wales, you will always find history on your | :23:35. | :23:41.
doorstep. For this town, there are 200 separate archaeological records. | :23:42. | :23:46.
Some of those are for well-known sites like the church which takes | :23:47. | :23:50.
back to medieval times but the app is also telling me that over my | :23:51. | :23:53.
shoulder is an iron age hill fort overlooking the town which dates | :23:54. | :23:57.
back to 300 BC. The technology itself was designed by computer | :23:58. | :24:00.
programmers at the University of South Wales. It took them nearly a | :24:01. | :24:09.
year to get it right. Some of the challenges come from the nature of | :24:10. | :24:13.
archaeology which is in the field where we can have connection, no | :24:14. | :24:19.
connection, no signal, so we have had to work in online and off-line | :24:20. | :24:22.
environment. Wales has a wealth of archaeology in all corners of the | :24:23. | :24:26.
country. The Archwilio app, which is free for anyone to use, makes all of | :24:27. | :24:30.
this history available at the touch of a button. I think it will make | :24:31. | :24:36.
Wales are more attractive place to visit and it puts us at the | :24:37. | :24:40.
forefront in terms of the new technologies and making links with | :24:41. | :24:46.
the historic environment. The app has already attracted interest from | :24:47. | :24:49.
local authorities in England who are keen to make their history | :24:50. | :24:52.
interactive too. This cutting edge technology, pioneered in Wales, has | :24:53. | :24:54.
finally brought all our archaeological treasures into the | :24:55. | :24:56.
digital age. Let's get the weather now room | :24:57. | :24:57.
Derek. Better weather for us today after | :24:58. | :25:03.
yesterday's heavy rain and strong winds. A few sharp showers and some | :25:04. | :25:08.
sunshine as well. There's more heavy showers to come this week but I can | :25:09. | :25:11.
promise some dry weather and sunshine as well. And that goes for | :25:12. | :25:18.
the weekend. This evening, scattered showers but otherwise dry. Later in | :25:19. | :25:21.
the night, more showers are expected. Heavy in places. | :25:22. | :25:27.
Temperatures inland falling as low as three Celsius. Here's the picture | :25:28. | :25:37.
for 8.00am in the morning. A few places dry and bright but not | :25:38. | :25:44.
everywhere. There will be showers around. Heavy in places too. Five | :25:45. | :25:49.
Celsius in Knighton with a light breeze. So it's a case of dodging | :25:50. | :25:53.
the showers tomorrow. A few heavy ones likely, perhaps with hail and | :25:54. | :25:56.
thunder but dry weather and sunny spells in between. Cooler than | :25:57. | :25:59.
today. Top temperatures only eight to ten Celsius with a west to | :26:00. | :26:02.
north-westerly breeze. The wind gusty in the showers. Showers but | :26:03. | :26:05.
some dry weather and sunshine in the north-west. Feeling chilly. Only | :26:06. | :26:12.
eight Celsius in Ruthin but the wind generally light. Tomorrow evening, a | :26:13. | :26:19.
mixture of dry, clear weather and scattered shower. However, later in | :26:20. | :26:22.
the night a trough will bring more widespread showers and heavy rain. | :26:23. | :26:25.
Saturday, a wet start first thing but the rain will clear mid morning. | :26:26. | :26:29.
The rest of the day a mixture of sunshine and showers. The showers | :26:30. | :26:33.
hit and miss so you may stay dry. If you're going to the rugby on | :26:34. | :26:36.
Saturday, I wouldnt' rule out a shower or two. But if you're out | :26:37. | :26:40.
celebrating a win for Wales in the evening it should be dry. Saturday | :26:41. | :26:43.
night, dry and cold with a widespread ground frost inland. | :26:44. | :26:46.
Remembrance Sunday will dawn cold but bright and crisp with sunshine. | :26:47. | :26:50.
During the day, though, cloud will increase. Rain expected to reach the | :26:51. | :26:54.
west in the late afternoon. This spreading across the rest of the | :26:55. | :26:58.
country to give a wet and windy end to the weekend. | :26:59. | :27:11.
Tonight's main news from the BBC. Wales's health watchdog says it | :27:12. | :27:17.
cannot be certain that a scandal like the one which led to the deaths | :27:18. | :27:21.
of hundreds of hospital patients in England is not happening here. | :27:22. | :27:27.
And it has been confirmed that Cardiff Royal infirmary is one of a | :27:28. | :27:30.
number of hospitals being investigated following revelations | :27:31. | :27:35.
about Jimmy Savile. I'll have an update for you at | :27:36. | :27:38.
8.00pm and there's more from the Wales Today newsroom at 10.25pm. | :27:39. | :27:42.
From all of us here, have a good evening. | :27:43. | :27:48. |
