Good evening. Thousands of homes in Gwynedd and Anglesey are still

without power tonight - as gales and heavy rain continue to cause

widespread disruption across much of the country. Wind speeds of more

than a hundred miles per hour hit the north Wales coast. Carwyn Jones

reports The village of Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula bore the brunt of

today's stormy weather. Gusts of 109 miles per hour battered

this coastline. Gale force winds uprooted trees and blew debris onto

overhead power lines. 4200 homes in Gwynedd and Anglesey are still

without electricity tonight as engineers struggle to restore power

across the network. The sea was tremendous. As you can

see behind me, telephone poles have snapped and a few groups have gone

here and there are taught -- if you roof tiles have gone here and there.

There's been disruption on the roads too. The A449 between Raglan and Usk

is closed southbound tonight after a car collided with a tree on the

carriageway. It was a similar story in Denbighshire - this was the A525

outside Llandegla earlier this morning. Shoppers who make it into

Bangor for some retail therapy - on what's one of the busiest shopping

days of the year, found two of the main shopping streets closed. The

wind had brought slates and tiles crashing down on to the pavement

below. Meanwhile in Cardiff, firefighters were called to Wales'

largest department store to reattach the christmas lights, which had been

left dangling in the wind. We have been preparing and we have

had so working, monitoring the levels and making sure the

differences are holding and we will do that over the coming days because

we are expecting a few days of respite. The weather is usually

unsettled this time of the year. On the rail network, there have been

severe delays across the South of the country. Arriva Trains Wales is

urging passengers to check before they travel and to be prepared for

last minute cancellations. The winds are now starting to die down but

there are warnings of more unsettled conditions to come next week.

Malky Mackay has been sacked as manager by Cardiff City after a

meeting of the club's board of directors. His dismissal comes less

than 24 hours after the club's three nil home Boxing Day defeat to

Southampton. It follows a public row with the club's billionaire owner,

Vincent Tan, who'd asked him to resign or be sacked. Matthew Murray

reports. Malky Mackay may have been looking

uneasy on the touchline yesterday, with his side trailing and

billionaire owner Vincent Tan in the stands talking closely to his

chairman. Now less than 24 hours after losing three Nil to

Southhampton Mackay has been sacked. The defeat could have been the

excuse that Tan required. After the circus of the past week. When first,

Mackay was told resign or be sacked only for Tan to withdraw that threat

a few days later. But this afternoon the inevitable finally happened.

Robert Earnshaw believes this all comes down to money and the

overspend the owner accused the management staff in the transfer

market. They spent a lot of money. I would

imagine it was more than anyone has ever spent coming up to the Premier

League. The chairman is probably feeling that it is a lot of money

and they should be doing better. Vincent Tan said the dismissal was

"regretfully" necessary to be fair to the club and its fans.

Tan said: "Far too much dirty linen has been exposed to the public gaze

but, I stress, not by me." Mackay had been appointed Cardiff's

manager two and half years ago. In his first season he took the club to

the League Cup final, where they lost to Liverpool on penalties. In

his second season he led Cardiff to promotion to the Premier League

ending a 51 year weight to join the top flight. And as dark clouds hung

over the Cardiff city stadium fans were feeling angry if not surprised.

I'm annoyed. I want to say thank you to Malky for all he has done. He has

done the club proud. I will be back here protesting about Vincent Tan.

Malky got us where we are. I don't think Vincent Tan is the right

person for football in South Wales, or in the premiership.

The cup has set a new first team manager will be appointed in due

course but tomorrow Cardiff face bottom of the table Sunderland here

at the Cardiff city stadium. The fans who demonstrated on Boxing Day

are prepared to demonstrate yet tomorrow. So even with his departure

it seems for the fans Malky remains number one. Time for the weather

forecast. We have seen a windy day with gusts

of 109 mph recorded earlier. Strong winds tonight and they will use.

Showers continuing, wintry on higher ground and turning cold enough for

ice patches along the border with temperatures hovering just above

freezing. Tomorrow wintry showers with a risk of Heol. They will ease

leaving sunny spells. Mist and fog patches possible along the marchers

with lighter winds but colder than today top temperatures of six to

eight Celsius. Sunday is fine and dry with isolated showers but

further wet and windy weather arrives from the West late on Sunday

night. A, weekend before turning unsettled again early next week.
