Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Cancer patients give a big thumbs up to their care, but we still have a | :00:07. | :00:10.
postcode lottery and long waiting lists. | :00:11. | :00:19.
When I was told that this was quite probably a secondary form of cancer | :00:20. | :00:26.
and they did not know where the primary cancer was, I just about | :00:27. | :00:29.
fell through the floor with shock. It was quite indescribable as | :00:30. | :00:33.
shocking. Tonight, the Health Minister is here | :00:34. | :00:34.
live. Our other headlines. | :00:35. | :00:50.
The deputy head teacher of a school is charged with three offences of | :00:51. | :00:54.
voyeurism - Gareth Williams has been suspended. | :00:55. | :00:59.
Good evening. In tonight's sport. Wales captain Sam Warburton's | :01:00. | :01:02.
central contract is hailed as a big boost for the game, but will other | :01:03. | :01:06.
players now follow in his footsteps? Is this the striker who could keep | :01:07. | :01:12.
Cardiff in the Premier League? And sunken in the sand for centuries | :01:13. | :01:15.
- the ghost ships reappearing after the storms. | :01:16. | :01:22.
Good evening. More than 7,000 patients were asked to rate the | :01:23. | :01:28.
quality of their cancer treatment and the vast majority thought their | :01:29. | :01:33.
care was excellent or very good. In Wales, more than 18,000 people are | :01:34. | :01:36.
diagnosed with cancer every year with 24 people dying every day. But | :01:37. | :01:42.
the study also found there were variations between hospitals and | :01:43. | :01:47.
treatment for some types of cancer. Tonight, we'll be in a hospital | :01:48. | :01:50.
hearing from clinicians and talking live to the Minister responsible. | :01:51. | :01:53.
First, our health correspondent Owain Clarke. | :01:54. | :02:04.
We have had your test results back from the lab and I am sorry to tell | :02:05. | :02:08.
you it is not good news. It's the news no-one wants to hear. | :02:09. | :02:12.
In 2009, Bronwen Davies from Cardiff faced the shock of a cancer | :02:13. | :02:16.
diagnosis. She'd noticed a lump on her neck that she assumed was just a | :02:17. | :02:20.
swollen gland. But it turned out to be a cancer that had spread. The | :02:21. | :02:25.
surgeons did a brilliant job. The first thing I thought when I was | :02:26. | :02:29.
told the diagnosis, apart from I am going to die, is I am going to be | :02:30. | :02:35.
dreadfully disfigured. I also had very good care from the | :02:36. | :02:38.
physiotherapy service after surgery. Following her treatment, Bronwen was | :02:39. | :02:41.
asked to rate her experience as part of a Wales-wide survey. Nearly 7,500 | :02:42. | :02:46.
patients took part. Overall, almost nine out of ten rated their care as | :02:47. | :02:51.
either excellent or good. But not every health board or hospital | :02:52. | :02:55.
performed as well as each other. Patients were happiest with their | :02:56. | :02:58.
care at Velindre - a specialist cancer centre in Cardiff, and also | :02:59. | :03:02.
at Llandough Hospital nearby. In North Wales, Ysbyty Gwynedd in | :03:03. | :03:07.
Bangor also scored highly. The Royal Glamorgan, Glangwili, Morriston and | :03:08. | :03:09.
Singleton hospitals had the least positive scores compared to the | :03:10. | :03:14.
average. In fact, inpatients scored Singleton lower than average for | :03:15. | :03:17.
almost half the questions in the survey. Abertawe Bro Morgannwg | :03:18. | :03:22.
Health Board say there's room for improvement. We do need to make sure | :03:23. | :03:31.
that their variance between health boards and hospitals is considered | :03:32. | :03:36.
carefully and we need to make sure that those key commitments in Welsh | :03:37. | :03:40.
government's delivery plan are implemented. There's also | :03:41. | :03:42.
significant differences in how satisfied patients are with care for | :03:43. | :03:47.
different types of cancer. Breast cancer patients had by far the most | :03:48. | :03:53.
positive experiences. But patients with lung or bladder cancer, along | :03:54. | :03:56.
with those suffering from rarer cancers, gave the poorest scores. | :03:57. | :04:12.
Lung cancer has a poor outcome and its treatment is seldom curative and | :04:13. | :04:18.
often associated with lots of bad side effects and can be quite | :04:19. | :04:25.
prolonged. For these reasons, patients's experience of lung cancer | :04:26. | :04:34.
is often not as good. While 68% of patients had been given information | :04:35. | :04:37.
about the impact the disease would have on work or education, only just | :04:38. | :04:40.
over half were given information about how to get financial help or | :04:41. | :04:43.
benefits. Although Bronwen was largely happy with the care she | :04:44. | :04:46.
received, she too encountered difficulties. During her treatment, | :04:47. | :04:50.
her weight plummeted from 12 stone to seven stone. I am absolutely | :04:51. | :04:57.
clear that I should have been seen by a dietician and she should also | :04:58. | :05:02.
have met my husband. I could have moaned -- done with more support | :05:03. | :05:07.
during treatment and after treatment. According to the Welsh | :05:08. | :05:10.
Government, this survey proves that the NHS in Wales can, at times, | :05:11. | :05:14.
perform well and deliver for patients, even when services across | :05:15. | :05:16.
the board are under intense pressure. | :05:17. | :05:22.
Our health correspondent Owain Clarke is at Velindre Hospital in | :05:23. | :05:32.
Cardiff. I think it is fair to say, one of | :05:33. | :05:38.
the foremost cancer centres not only in the UK but in the whole of | :05:39. | :05:41.
Europe. If you are wondering what this is, this scanner helps doctors | :05:42. | :05:48.
diagnose and assimilate cancer treatment and that alone costs over | :05:49. | :05:54.
?1 million. I am joined by Professor Peter Barrett Lee, the medical | :05:55. | :05:59.
director of this hospital. If you scratch the surface of this survey, | :06:00. | :06:03.
does it suggest white patients seem to be quite happy with the K they | :06:04. | :06:09.
get. Can I thank the people of Wales for their response rate? I think it | :06:10. | :06:16.
reflects a lot of years of hard work to improve services for cancer | :06:17. | :06:21.
patients in Wales. But people do suggest it is because they get more | :06:22. | :06:25.
information and someone specific to look after them. It comes through in | :06:26. | :06:30.
the report very clearly that having a specific support person is | :06:31. | :06:39.
absolutely crucial. But some hospitals are also lagging behind | :06:40. | :06:43.
which suggests to me there is a postcode lottery in Wales. We know | :06:44. | :06:49.
now, because of this survey, that some areas are not doing so well. So | :06:50. | :06:56.
certain hospitals need to improve? They do. People will say it is all | :06:57. | :07:02.
well and good getting good care when you get it but people are waiting | :07:03. | :07:06.
too long on waiting lists. What is your view? We need to look at the | :07:07. | :07:13.
targets but we cannot accept long waiting times. One initiative is to | :07:14. | :07:20.
get better at -- Access to GPs to refer patients more quickly. | :07:21. | :07:25.
Mark Drakeford is the Health Minister. People are happy when they | :07:26. | :07:30.
get treatment, but we know Wales is lagging behind parts of England. We | :07:31. | :07:42.
have been missing targets for years as well. Essentially, that is what | :07:43. | :07:49.
you have two address, isn't it? I take issue with your basic premise. | :07:50. | :07:54.
Waiting times for cancer treatment in Wales is broadly camp arable with | :07:55. | :08:01.
everything that goes on in England. We meet our targets regularly and | :08:02. | :08:06.
for the last six months, our 62 day target has improved month on month. | :08:07. | :08:11.
There is more you can do and if you are suffering from cancer, you | :08:12. | :08:19.
should make improvements rather quest -- quickly. What is really | :08:20. | :08:25.
crucial is that you get your first appointment within ten days. If you | :08:26. | :08:29.
do that, the rest of the pathway was very smoothly and we are doing | :08:30. | :08:34.
really well to get to that ten day appointment. You will have been | :08:35. | :08:41.
familiar with David Cameron raising Wales's cancer waiting times in | :08:42. | :08:44.
Prime Minister's Questions. What do you make of that? This is a | :08:45. | :08:48.
political problem in the way that Wales is perceived. The Prime | :08:49. | :08:55.
Minister is the new role of the English NHS. Fiddling figures while | :08:56. | :09:01.
the NHS burns around him. There is nothing I am going to take from the | :09:02. | :09:07.
Prime Minister criticising Wales. So it is all going very well in Wales? | :09:08. | :09:14.
Absolutely not. What you hear in the figures today are huge satisfaction | :09:15. | :09:20.
rates. When they get treatment, that is the point to make clear. We meet | :09:21. | :09:27.
our 31 day target all the time and our 62 day target, we reach it | :09:28. | :09:31.
comparatively with what they do in England but we can do better. One of | :09:32. | :09:37.
the places where we can do better is the postcode lottery of cancer care. | :09:38. | :09:41.
We know that some hospitals are excellent. But we know that other | :09:42. | :09:48.
hospitals are not so good. What about the National Health Service | :09:49. | :09:50.
and making sure that wherever you live in Wales, you get a uniform | :09:51. | :09:58.
service. The worst satisfaction rates are a deeply dissent and the | :09:59. | :10:03.
best are 91% so there is a gap between the top and the bottom but | :10:04. | :10:08.
83% of patients in the health board which have the lowest figures say | :10:09. | :10:12.
their care was excellent or very good. We want to make sure we take | :10:13. | :10:15.
the learning from the survey and take what is going on so well in the | :10:16. | :10:19.
very best and make sure that even those places which are doing very | :10:20. | :10:23.
well now do better for their patients in the future. | :10:24. | :10:37.
Routine operations have resumed in North Wales which had been postponed | :10:38. | :10:40.
last week. The action affected hospitals across the Betsi Cadwaladr | :10:41. | :10:43.
Health Board area. Officials blamed increased pressures on A | :10:44. | :10:44.
departments. The deputy head teacher of a Cardiff | :10:45. | :10:47.
secondary school has been charged with offences of voyeurism. Gareth | :10:48. | :10:50.
Williams, who's 47, has been suspended from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg | :10:51. | :10:53.
Glantaf in Llandaff North. Caroline Evans is in our Cardiff newsroom. | :10:54. | :10:59.
Caroline, what more can you tell us? Gareth Williams is the deputy head | :11:00. | :11:02.
at one of Cardiff's Welsh-medium high schools. A well established | :11:03. | :11:08.
school serving around 1,500 pupils. It's been confirmed to us by police | :11:09. | :11:11.
that Mr Williams, who is 47 years old, was arrested last Thursday and | :11:12. | :11:14.
appeared before magistrates here in the city on Saturday. We're told he | :11:15. | :11:20.
is facing three charges of voyeurism within a house. And at that court | :11:21. | :11:27.
hearing on Saturday he was remanded in custody. | :11:28. | :11:49.
Two people have been jailed for trafficking women to Cardiff to work | :11:50. | :11:52.
as prostitutes. Ladislav Kurina from the Czech Republic and Angelika | :11:53. | :11:55.
Bacan from Romania pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court to arranging for | :11:56. | :11:59.
a 25 and 26-year-old to come here to work in the sex trade. The women | :12:00. | :12:02.
were later left destitute and desperate. | :12:03. | :12:03.
Because of the courage of their women, we have been able to work | :12:04. | :12:06.
with them with the authorities and bring the perpetrators of these | :12:07. | :12:10.
crimes to justice. Anybody involved in that area of work, you cannot | :12:11. | :12:15.
imagine the horrors of that in terms of what it is to you as a person, | :12:16. | :12:20.
what it is to you in your ability to feel that you value yourself. | :12:21. | :12:24.
These are historic days for Welsh rugby. With news on that, here's | :12:25. | :12:28.
Claire. Good evening. Wales will decide | :12:29. | :12:31.
tomorrow whether captain Sam Warburton will be fit for the start | :12:32. | :12:35.
of the Six Nations against Italy this Saturday as he recovers from a | :12:36. | :12:40.
shoulder injury. But while his fitness is still in doubt, his | :12:41. | :12:45.
off-field future is clearer. He made history at the weekend after | :12:46. | :12:48.
becoming the first player to sign a central contract with the Welsh | :12:49. | :12:51.
Rugby Union. And now the spotlight is on other players to see if they | :12:52. | :12:54.
follow suit. Our sports news correspondent Gareth Lewis reports. | :12:55. | :13:01.
Although Sam Warburton's name might not be on the team sheet his | :13:02. | :13:04.
signature is on one crucial document. His contract with the | :13:05. | :13:09.
Welsh Rugby Union will keep him in Wales until the Lions tour of 2017 | :13:10. | :13:14.
and the intention is for him to continue playing for Cardiff Blues | :13:15. | :13:19.
when he's not on Wales duty. Cardiff Blues would love to have a contract | :13:20. | :13:23.
with him but the phones were not available. It is a difficult time | :13:24. | :13:29.
for the regions but he wanted to stay in Wales. He is very happy | :13:30. | :13:37.
here. It is fantastic news for him. He was one of the wanted six, | :13:38. | :13:42.
offered regional and WRU contract as well as offers from abroad. Leigh | :13:43. | :13:48.
Halfpenny is moving to Toulon. Alun Wyn Jones has re-signed with the | :13:49. | :13:53.
Ospreys. Scott Williams, Adam Jones and Rhys Priestland are still making | :13:54. | :13:58.
up their minds. But Alun Wyn Jones and Sam Warburton staying put is | :13:59. | :14:01.
being seen as a huge boost for the national side. It is great to see | :14:02. | :14:06.
those guys commit to staying in Wales. The reason being is that they | :14:07. | :14:11.
get a bit of time off between test matches which is great for us so | :14:12. | :14:16.
they can have a rest in between. That is the biggest advantage | :14:17. | :14:22.
really. And the kudos of the game in Wales. But if the WRU and regions | :14:23. | :14:31.
cannot resolve their differences in time for next season, there is some | :14:32. | :14:36.
uncertainty over with Sam Warburton will play his club rugby. As things | :14:37. | :14:43.
stand, the regions will not select centrally contacted players. Seven | :14:44. | :14:45.
of the current squad play outside Wales. Mike Phillips celebrated a | :14:46. | :14:52.
spectacular try. But they returned to find Welsh rugby exactly where it | :14:53. | :14:57.
was in the autumn. United at the thought of an end but it was in the | :14:58. | :15:00.
autumn. United at the thought of an end President Assad third Six | :15:01. | :15:02.
Nations championship in a row, divided off the field over the | :15:03. | :15:04.
future of the game. And Gareth is here. An historic | :15:05. | :15:08.
weekend and this a pivotal week for Welsh rugby? The Six Nations starts | :15:09. | :15:17.
on Saturday. Friday is deadline day. The regions have given the WRU a | :15:18. | :15:21.
deadline to sort out club rugby or they will pursue other options like | :15:22. | :15:26.
joining the English Premiership. They would like a new European | :15:27. | :15:30.
tournament in which they control the TV rights and commercial | :15:31. | :15:33.
negotiations. The WRU is against this. The unions have been meeting | :15:34. | :15:38.
again in London today with David Pickering represented the Welsh | :15:39. | :15:49.
Rugby Union. European and English representatives have also been | :15:50. | :15:52.
meeting again today. There is enough on the table to talk about and | :15:53. | :15:57.
positive noises coming from Saracens in England that some sort of | :15:58. | :16:01.
conclusion is near. Whether that is before the Six Nations remains to be | :16:02. | :16:05.
seen but there has not been much optimism in all of this. From | :16:06. | :16:10.
England, some optimism that we are getting close to some kind of | :16:11. | :16:11.
agreement. Much more to come before seven | :16:12. | :16:15.
o'clock. The shipwrecks long lost in the sand | :16:16. | :16:19.
now revealed by the storms stripping back our shores. | :16:20. | :16:27.
Now, what's in a name? Well, quite a lot for many of us it seems. So much | :16:28. | :16:34.
so that it's been suggested people who want to change historic house or | :16:35. | :16:38.
farm names should have to apply for planning permission before they do | :16:39. | :16:42.
it. There's concern that some important links with our past may be | :16:43. | :16:49.
lost. Roger Pinney reports. When the boys from Essex came to | :16:50. | :16:54.
Wales, Gavin and Stacey poked fun at our bilingual road signs but there | :16:55. | :16:58.
is more to it than that. The names of towns and villages, farms and | :16:59. | :17:01.
homes have come down through history. Something important is lost | :17:02. | :17:07.
if they are changed, it is claimed. None of them speak Welsh. What about | :17:08. | :17:17.
the signs? In Ceredigion, this man decided to call his complex of | :17:18. | :17:24.
holiday cottages Stallion Valley, a translation of the old Welsh name. | :17:25. | :17:30.
Not so much a change, he says, but a marketing tool. An easy name for his | :17:31. | :17:36.
English-speaking customers to use. It is not used in the local | :17:37. | :17:42.
circumstance. We tell our visitors that if they are asking for | :17:43. | :17:47.
directions, ask for the Welsh name. It is only a presence on the | :17:48. | :17:50.
Internet for the marketing of our cottages. | :17:51. | :17:57.
This man has made a steady of Welsh places and written a dictionary of | :17:58. | :18:07.
them. The names can be a signpost of our past. They evolve but sudden | :18:08. | :18:14.
changes should be avoided. Most place names retain the names they | :18:15. | :18:19.
have had 150 years ago, 200 years ago, 1500 years ago. We have got to | :18:20. | :18:25.
be very careful about changing names deliberately. New coinages lead to | :18:26. | :18:32.
be regarded with a certain amount of suspicion. And then there is how a | :18:33. | :18:38.
place name is spelt. At this village, some locals did not think | :18:39. | :18:44.
much of changing the letters. And what about here on Anglesey. This | :18:45. | :18:49.
place was named by the Anglo Normans who built the castle. Town and | :18:50. | :19:03.
village names are a matter of public policy but house names are up to the | :19:04. | :19:07.
owner. Those who want to protect them say it is about looking after | :19:08. | :19:09.
our heritage. The boss of the airline CityJet has | :19:10. | :19:13.
said she is open to expanding services at Cardiff Airport in | :19:14. | :19:17.
future. The airline, which is part of the Air France group, has begun | :19:18. | :19:20.
flights to destinations such as Glasgow and Paris following the | :19:21. | :19:24.
withdrawal of Flybe from Cardiff. Charging for plastic carrier bags, | :19:25. | :19:26.
free prescriptions and the foundation phase in primary schools | :19:27. | :19:29.
are all examples of policies made in Wales. Now, finding out whether | :19:30. | :19:33.
policies like these actually work will be the task of a new think tank | :19:34. | :19:37.
called the Public Policy Institute for Wales. The group will report | :19:38. | :19:40.
directly to the Welsh Government. The First Minister explained what | :19:41. | :19:47.
it'll do. The civil service, it is true, | :19:48. | :19:50.
provides advice on policy but we need people to do the research, to | :19:51. | :19:54.
look at whether something will work, to look at what does work and look | :19:55. | :19:58.
at what does not work either. Traditionally in Wales, we have not | :19:59. | :20:03.
had that. It has existed in the parts of the UK and it is right to | :20:04. | :20:07.
ensure we have the right evidence base when we make decisions. | :20:08. | :20:10.
We've heard about the world of Welsh rugby already. Time for the rest of | :20:11. | :20:13.
the sport. Back to Claire. It's been a busy day in the transfer | :20:14. | :20:17.
market for our two Premier League clubs. Swansea City have captured | :20:18. | :20:20.
French striker David Ngog from Bolton for an undisclosed fee. And | :20:21. | :20:23.
Cardiff are hoping they've found a striker to keep them in the Premier | :20:24. | :20:27.
League in the shape of Trinidad and Tobago international Kenwyne Jones. | :20:28. | :20:32.
Here's Ashleigh Crowter. Goals or rather the lack of them has | :20:33. | :20:38.
been Cardiff City's biggest problem. They are hoping Kenwyne Jones can | :20:39. | :20:43.
help to sort it out. The former Sunderland striker is about to join | :20:44. | :20:48.
from Stoke city with Peter Odemwingie going the other way in a | :20:49. | :20:54.
swap deal. Jones joined up with Cardiff today, as did Manchester | :20:55. | :20:58.
United defender Fabio. But the paperwork was not signed off by | :20:59. | :21:01.
midday so neither will be available for tomorrow night's Premier League | :21:02. | :21:06.
match at Old Trafford. England international Wilfried Zaha should | :21:07. | :21:10.
move to Cardiff on loan for the rest of the season. He is going to get a | :21:11. | :21:16.
chance when he comes to us to show his talent, to develop a game, get | :21:17. | :21:21.
much time and he will have a fantastic crowd behind him because | :21:22. | :21:24.
there is no better place for a young kid like that, coming in and showing | :21:25. | :21:30.
his skills, with a passionate crowd of supporters. Cardiff are hoping to | :21:31. | :21:36.
take their FA Cup form into the league. Fraizer Campbell secured a | :21:37. | :21:41.
place in the fifth round against Wigan. Swansea will travel to | :21:42. | :21:45.
Everton in the last 16 after beating Birmingham 2-1. They will now be | :21:46. | :21:53.
more competition for places at front after Swansea signed Frenchman David | :21:54. | :21:57.
Ngog from Bolton on a six-month contract. The former Liverpool | :21:58. | :22:01.
striker could make his debut against Fulham tomorrow. A good club in the | :22:02. | :22:11.
Premier League have interest so I am really pleased for that and now I | :22:12. | :22:17.
took my time to think about it and I decided to sign here. Swansea are | :22:18. | :22:22.
also hoping to bring in comments on loan. | :22:23. | :22:25.
And just a reminder that tomorrow Warren Gatland names his side to | :22:26. | :22:29.
face Italy this weekend in the opening round of the Six Nations. As | :22:30. | :22:32.
I mentioned earlier, a decision will be made on captain Sam Warburton's | :22:33. | :22:36.
fitness in the morning. But prop Gethin Jenkins is out of Saturday's | :22:37. | :22:39.
match with a knee injury. We'll have all the details on who'll start for | :22:40. | :22:43.
Wales tomorrow night. That's it from me, Jamie. Back to | :22:44. | :22:45.
you. This month's storms have stripped | :22:46. | :22:48.
millions of tonnes of sand from Cefn Sidan beach in Carmarthenshire, | :22:49. | :22:51.
exposing three old shipwrecks. It's thought they date from the 19th or | :22:52. | :22:54.
18th century, when it was a popular but treacherous shipping route. | :22:55. | :22:57.
Abigail Neal reports. A park ranger takes us out along the | :22:58. | :23:01.
eight-mile stretch of beach at Cefn Sidan. Before long, the tell-tale | :23:02. | :23:08.
signs of history begin to emerge. Three new sets of bony ribs lay | :23:09. | :23:13.
exposed. It's thought they could be trading vessels dating from the 18th | :23:14. | :23:21.
or 19th century. The one nearest that is at least 120 foot, the | :23:22. | :23:26.
furthest one could be 100 foot. We do have some metal hold ships are | :23:27. | :23:33.
mainly wooden hulls. You can just make out the top of the ship that | :23:34. | :23:37.
has recently been exposed but we are told in total there are 182 | :23:38. | :23:42.
shipwrecks along this stretch of beach. In this case, it was not | :23:43. | :23:46.
steep cliffs or hidden rocks that did for the sailors along this | :23:47. | :23:54.
coast, Emyr Richards says without local knowledge, trading vessels | :23:55. | :23:56.
could easily become stranded and flounder on this beach. It is mainly | :23:57. | :24:02.
because of the shallow sands or the shifting sands. They are shifting so | :24:03. | :24:07.
you can imagination trying to navigate its way up the estuary to | :24:08. | :24:18.
take coal or tin. It is going to be difficult, especially without the | :24:19. | :24:21.
correct charts or the radar available these days. The new | :24:22. | :24:24.
additions will join two other wrecks which are well-known landmarks on | :24:25. | :24:27.
the beach at low tide. Scientists will now try and date the latest | :24:28. | :24:31.
discoveries from their timber before the shifting sea and sand come to | :24:32. | :24:35.
claim them once again. Let's get the weather forecast now | :24:36. | :24:36.
with Derek. You may remember that this time last | :24:37. | :24:45.
year we'd had some heavy snow by now. But there is no sign of a | :24:46. | :24:50.
repeat performance this winter, which is turning out very wet. There | :24:51. | :24:58.
are four flood alerts in force. And there's more rain and heavy showers | :24:59. | :25:02.
to come in the next 24 hours. The reason for the unsettled weather is | :25:03. | :25:04.
low pressure close to Northern Ireland. Some strong and blustery | :25:05. | :25:07.
winds. Snow in northeast Scotland. So, tonight, some dry spells but | :25:08. | :25:11.
also further heavy showers or longer spells of rain. Windy on the south | :25:12. | :25:14.
and west coast and feeling cold. Lowest temperatures around three to | :25:15. | :25:17.
six Celsius. Tomorrow's chart shows low pressure over the UK centred | :25:18. | :25:21.
over the Irish Sea. Here's the picture for eight in the morning. A | :25:22. | :25:27.
few places dry but there will be a lot of showers around. The shower | :25:28. | :25:33.
merging into longer spells of rain. Snow on the mountains. Breezy, | :25:34. | :25:36.
especially on the coast. Lighter winds in the north and feeling | :25:37. | :25:39.
chilly. During the day, not much change. More rain and heavy showers. | :25:40. | :25:48.
A few drier, brighter intervals as well but more cloud than sun. | :25:49. | :25:51.
Temperatures around average, six to eight Celsius. The wind falling | :25:52. | :25:54.
lighter everywhere during the afternoon. In Flintshire, showers | :25:55. | :26:00.
and rain at times. Heavy in places. Six Celsius in Mold with a light | :26:01. | :26:04.
breeze. In Bridgend, a mixture of sunny intervals and showers. The | :26:05. | :26:09.
wind easing with a high of seven in Maesteg. Tomorrow night, yet more | :26:10. | :26:19.
showers. Temperatures above freezing with lighter winds. On Wednesday, | :26:20. | :26:22.
some dry weather but also some more rain and showers. A little snow | :26:23. | :26:26.
likely on higher ground, some hills and mountains later in the day. | :26:27. | :26:29.
Thursday will be colder with an easterly breeze. One or two snow | :26:30. | :26:34.
flurries here and there but on the whole drier and brighter with a | :26:35. | :26:37.
little sunshine. Thursday will be the coldest day of the winter so far | :26:38. | :26:41.
with some frost and ice, but it's all change again on Friday with more | :26:42. | :26:48.
wind and rain on the way. Our picture tonight is from Iori | :26:49. | :26:52.
Roberts. The swollen River Elwy in St Asaph. Thanks, Iori. More rain | :26:53. | :27:02.
and heavy showers tomorrow. Thursday will be drier and colder. | :27:03. | :27:07.
Tonight's headlines. Wales's first patient experience survey has | :27:08. | :27:16.
praised the care received by cancer patients in Wales. It also showed | :27:17. | :27:21.
the difference between hospitals and treatments for different kinds of | :27:22. | :27:25.
cancer. The deputy headteacher of a school | :27:26. | :27:27.
in Cardiff has been charged with what arisen within a house. Gareth | :27:28. | :27:32.
Williams has been suspended and remanded in custody. | :27:33. | :27:36.
I'll have an update for you here at 8.00pm and I'll be back after the | :27:37. | :27:41.
BBC news at 10.00pm. That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching. From | :27:42. | :27:47.
all of us on the programme, good evening. | :27:48. | :27:51. |
