That is all from us. Newsnight is on BBC Two in a few moments, asking | :00:00. | 3:59:59
what lessons the flood have And Good evening. Best known for | :00:00. | :00:24.
James Bond films, Pinewood Studios has announced it's to open a new | :00:25. | :00:28.
facility in Cardiff. The Welsh Government has been heavily involved | :00:29. | :00:31.
in the deal, saying it would generate an estimated ?90 million | :00:32. | :00:35.
and support 2,000 over five years. Our arts and media correspondent Huw | :00:36. | :00:38.
Thomas reports Two women from mid Wales have been jailed for illegally | :00:39. | :00:42.
burying a man and claiming benefits in his name. It is the movie banned | :00:43. | :00:51.
-- brand that has promoted British film around the world perhaps more | :00:52. | :00:59.
than any other. James Bond has helped Pinewood present the British | :01:00. | :01:06.
story perhaps more than anything else. After a year of talks, Cardiff | :01:07. | :01:22.
was chosen I Pinewood for their new facility. They will lease the | :01:23. | :01:30.
building from the Welsh Government. It will be employment opportunities, | :01:31. | :01:34.
it will help small businesses who might wish to work with them. Like | :01:35. | :01:41.
macro significance of this cannot be understated. Pinewood is responsible | :01:42. | :01:47.
for familiar characters and film franchises that we all go to see in | :01:48. | :01:53.
the cinema. With the deal announced to bring Pinewood to Cardiff we | :01:54. | :01:56.
could be seen some familiar faces in Wales. Wales has often been a | :01:57. | :02:09.
popular place to film things like honeypot and Doctor Who. This | :02:10. | :02:13.
promises to put Wales in the heart of the UK film industry. We have | :02:14. | :02:21.
struggled to attract film-makers, this facility was mothballed after | :02:22. | :02:26.
seven years having failed to attract film-makers. There is an initial | :02:27. | :02:31.
commitment of a five-year lease on the site and the Welsh Government | :02:32. | :02:37.
are making a ?30 million pot available to production companies | :02:38. | :02:41.
who want to make films here with the government getting a cut of profits | :02:42. | :02:46.
if they do well at the box office. Ill macro in recent years will has | :02:47. | :02:51.
become a well-known centre for the production of television drama. With | :02:52. | :02:55.
the introduction of a tax incentive for big budget television by the UK | :02:56. | :03:01.
Government this is something we are very excited by. It is a brand with | :03:02. | :03:08.
a long track record and it is about having the right timing. We have | :03:09. | :03:12.
lots of new talent coming through the ranks that is ready to break | :03:13. | :03:18.
into studio pictures. We do not know if James Bond will be among the | :03:19. | :03:21.
stars heading to Cardiff for their big film next time but the hope to | :03:22. | :03:32.
start work as soon as. Two women from Wales have been jailed for | :03:33. | :03:40.
illegally burying a man and continuing to claim benefits in his | :03:41. | :03:42.
name. Geoffrey Sturdey died in 2008, but his body was only found on land | :03:43. | :03:46.
near the village of Llwynygroes in Ceredigion last June. His widow was | :03:47. | :03:49.
involved in the fraud. Cemlyn Davies reports. This is the remote part of | :03:50. | :03:52.
countryside where Geoffrey Sturdey's body was found nearly five years | :03:53. | :03:56.
after he died. He lived with his wife and three other woman near | :03:57. | :03:59.
Llwynygroes in Ceredigion. Mr Sturdey was 60 when he died of | :04:00. | :04:03.
natural causes but his death was kept a secret as his widow, Ladan | :04:04. | :04:06.
Rebekah Sturdey and Boque Ore Aide, continued to claim benefits in his | :04:07. | :04:11.
name. They fraudulently received more than ?77,000. Eventually, staff | :04:12. | :04:24.
at the Department for Work and Pensions grew suspicious. It began | :04:25. | :04:31.
as the departmental matching stand. The amount of money on someone's | :04:32. | :04:36.
account was above the allowed beam it. It seemed to be a | :04:37. | :04:39.
straightforward case but when investigators looked at it closely | :04:40. | :04:43.
it became apparent there was more to this. The women claimed Mr Sturdey | :04:44. | :04:46.
had gone travelling across Europe but after an extensive search | :04:47. | :04:48.
operation involving digging equipment and ground-penetrating | :04:49. | :04:51.
radar police found his body, and notes written in Hebrew explaining | :04:52. | :04:55.
how he had died. As he sentenced them to 20 months in prison, judge | :04:56. | :04:59.
Paul Thomas QC told Ladan Rebekah Sturdey and Boque Ore Aide they had | :05:00. | :05:02.
taken advantage of Mr Sturdey's sad death to claim benefits to which | :05:03. | :05:10.
they were not entitled. It gave you two the opportunity to enrich | :05:11. | :05:13.
yourselves at the expense of the rest of us, he said. Ladan Rebekah | :05:14. | :05:24.
Sturdey and Boque Ore Aide will serve half their sentences behind | :05:25. | :05:27.
bars before being released on license. What this investigation has | :05:28. | :05:35.
shown that people who unlawfully bury a deceased person and continue | :05:36. | :05:38.
to claim their benefits will not get away with it. An investigation is | :05:39. | :05:43.
taking place in relation to this matter. Karmel Aide, who had also | :05:44. | :05:47.
admitted unlawfully burying a man, was given a nine month suspended | :05:48. | :05:50.
sentence and she was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. | :05:51. | :05:53.
There's a police investigation into unlawful payments he received, but | :05:54. | :05:56.
the Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire County Council, Bryn Parry Jones, | :05:57. | :06:01.
will NOT be standing down. On Friday, the council accepted the | :06:02. | :06:04.
findings of a Wales Audit Office report into the payments. His | :06:05. | :06:07.
counterpart at Carmarthenshire, Mark James, has stood down while police | :06:08. | :06:14.
investigate payments to him. A dispute over protecting the wages of | :06:15. | :06:17.
Welsh farm workers has begun its hearing in the Supreme Court. | :06:18. | :06:21.
Assembly Members passed a law last year to set minimum wages in | :06:22. | :06:25.
agriculture. But the UK Government's Attorney General blocked it, saying, | :06:26. | :06:28.
it was not within the assembly's powers. The hearing continues | :06:29. | :06:35.
tomorrow. The Wales squad are back in camp ahead of Friday's Six | :06:36. | :06:39.
Nations Game match with France. There are no fresh injuries but | :06:40. | :06:42.
there was confirmation today that Jonathan Davies won't be in | :06:43. | :06:45.
contention. Warren Gatland will name his side to face France on | :06:46. | :06:49.
Wednesday. Behind the scenes, some positive signs tonight of a | :06:50. | :06:52.
resolution in the on-going rugby row. The Welsh Rugby Union Chief | :06:53. | :06:56.
Executive Roger Lewis says, more talks will take place tomorrow. I | :06:57. | :07:06.
will be back up in London tomorrow with my colleagues from France, | :07:07. | :07:11.
Ireland and England. We have a small working party now to put the flesh | :07:12. | :07:15.
on the bones of what we discussed last week in Paris. Personally I | :07:16. | :07:20.
would like to resolve it by the end of this year's six Nations but it | :07:21. | :07:24.
will take as long as it takes because we have to get the right | :07:25. | :07:28.
resolution and outcome for rugby. At the winter Olympics in Russia, | :07:29. | :07:31.
Welsh-born skater Lloyd Jones finished 15th as he competed for | :07:32. | :07:34.
France in the Free Dance pairs final. The 25-year-old, from | :07:35. | :07:37.
Whitchurch in Cardiff, moved abroad to team up with a new partner and | :07:38. | :07:40.
better facilities. Another welshman, Bruce Tasker from Manobier IS part | :07:41. | :07:42.
of Great Britain's four-man bobsleigh team. He's arrived in | :07:43. | :07:46.
Sochi, excited and ready to compete for a medal. We are doing very well | :07:47. | :07:53.
to remember it is just another race. Yes it is the Olympic Games and the | :07:54. | :08:02.
spin equal of our sporting career -- pinnacle of our sporting gear but we | :08:03. | :08:05.
are just going out there to win like we do every week. Now the weather. | :08:06. | :08:20.
Just a little warmer here, less stormy later this week but it will | :08:21. | :08:28.
not be completely dry. Some dry weather tonight but also showers, | :08:29. | :08:33.
heavy and places. The wind will fall light and temperatures staying well | :08:34. | :08:37.
above freezing. Tomorrow morning they will start today with mist and | :08:38. | :08:42.
hill fog. One or two showers otherwise much of the country dry | :08:43. | :08:46.
and brightening up in places with a little sunshine in Newtown. We have | :08:47. | :08:52.
some rain and mind and snow for the North of Scotland. Elsewhere, some | :08:53. | :08:57.
places dry and brightening up with sunshine. There will be some cloud | :08:58. | :09:00.
around with the risk of the land fund. The temperature in London will | :09:01. | :09:09.
rise to 11 Celcius. A clear afternoon in Wales tomorrow. | :09:10. | :09:16.
Temperatures well above-average with a light to moderate breeze. Tomorrow | :09:17. | :09:22.
evening will start dry but that will not last, some showery rain | :09:23. | :09:26.
spreading across the country overnight. Showers first thing we'll | :09:27. | :09:30.
hear on Wednesday then mostly dry but some rain in the west and | :09:31. | :09:34.
south-west later in the afternoon. It does look like turning white | :09:35. | :09:39.
overnight into Thursday with some heavy rain accompanied by strong to | :09:40. | :09:45.
gale force winds. No warnings in force at the moment in Wales but | :09:46. | :09:49.
that could change. Keep an eye on the forecast. That is all from us | :09:50. | :09:53.
for now, good night. This beauty will make you as fast | :09:54. | :10:02.
as a frog... I just want these. Well, | :10:03. | :10:12.
you're not going to win in those. | :10:13. | :10:16. |
