Good evening. It's been a highly respected name in the Welsh | :00:18. | :00:21.
construction industry but tonight most of the Macob empire has | :00:22. | :00:24.
collapsed, with the loss of 145 jobs. It's been operating since | :00:25. | :00:31.
1981. In that time, it's built over 12,000 homes and more than 200 miles | :00:32. | :00:38.
of road. The company owns Cardiff's historic Coal Exchange, but | :00:39. | :00:40.
development plans for that iconic building won't be affected by | :00:41. | :00:43.
today's announcement. Here's our business correspondent, Brian | :00:44. | :00:48.
Meechan. The sign on the door of Macob's | :00:49. | :00:57.
headquarters in Cardiff told its own story, administration and the losses | :00:58. | :01:00.
that good with it. The company has ceased trading -- trading which | :01:01. | :01:06.
means jobs have been lost. The company owns the historic Coal | :01:07. | :01:09.
Exchange, popular love music menu which is being developed into office | :01:10. | :01:14.
spake -- a popular live music venue which is being developed into office | :01:15. | :01:21.
space. Other parts of the business are less certain. Macob has been | :01:22. | :01:26.
marketing this 200,000 square feet business Park. Many involve in the | :01:27. | :01:31.
construction sector has been surprised by the construction | :01:32. | :01:38.
company's closure. I have no record for very many years, so I am sad | :01:39. | :01:44.
that it has happened. -- I have known Macob for many years. The | :01:45. | :01:50.
company is changing. It was involved in the construction of the St Davids | :01:51. | :01:53.
Hospital in Cardiff, a state-of-the-art facility opened ten | :01:54. | :01:56.
years ago. The construction industry has been badly hit by the economic | :01:57. | :02:02.
crisis. In the last few years, Macob says going into administration is a | :02:03. | :02:07.
result of tough trading conditions. There are signs of a positive future | :02:08. | :02:10.
for construction. The industry is set to grow by 3.4% each year | :02:11. | :02:15.
between now and 2018. That is the second-highest rate in the UK. That | :02:16. | :02:19.
is mainly down to big infrastructure projects including a new nuclear | :02:20. | :02:24.
power station on Anglesey. Always 18,000 new jobs are expected to be | :02:25. | :02:28.
created over the next few years. The Welsh government specialist panel on | :02:29. | :02:31.
construction says, we should not read anything into the state of the | :02:32. | :02:34.
industry generally from the fortunes of this one company. At the moment | :02:35. | :02:39.
it is in a very competitive market. The house-building sector is leading | :02:40. | :02:45.
the way, there are positive statistics from there. Positive | :02:46. | :02:48.
results from there. Commercially, it is still a very difficult and | :02:49. | :02:51.
competitive market. So regrettably we are seeing companies failing, and | :02:52. | :02:57.
that is not a surprise at this moment in time. This is allowed -- | :02:58. | :03:02.
this is the end for a large part of the Macob business, even if some | :03:03. | :03:06.
small parts have been salvaged. All these are worrying and uncertain | :03:07. | :03:09.
times by former workers, the hope is job opportunities could arise in | :03:10. | :03:12.
other companies as the construction sector expands. | :03:13. | :03:14.
other companies as the construction A 38-year-old woman has been charged | :03:15. | :03:15.
in connection with indecent images of children, as part of the | :03:16. | :03:18.
investigation into the jailed Lostprophets singer, Ian Watkins. | :03:19. | :03:21.
Joanne Mjadzelics is accused of seven offences, including four | :03:22. | :03:23.
counts of possessing and two of distributing an indecent image. | :03:24. | :03:28.
She's been bailed and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates court | :03:29. | :03:31.
later this month. Watkins, from Pontypridd, was jailed for 29 years | :03:32. | :03:34.
last December, after admitting a catalogue of serious sex offences | :03:35. | :03:41.
involving children. Councillors in Powys have voted | :03:42. | :03:44.
through their budget for the next financial year including a 4.5% rise | :03:45. | :03:49.
in council tax. Protestors once again gathered outside the meeting | :03:50. | :03:52.
where ?20 million worth of cuts was approved. It will mean the loss of | :03:53. | :03:58.
around 400 jobs. Hundreds of people, angry at | :03:59. | :04:01.
proposals to close a special care baby unit in Haverfordwest, took | :04:02. | :04:05.
their protest to Cardiff Bay today. They say moving the unit from | :04:06. | :04:08.
Withybush hospital to Carmarthen will lead to lives being lost. The | :04:09. | :04:12.
Welsh government says the changes will provide the best possible care | :04:13. | :04:17.
for mothers and babies. Tourism facilities in north Wales, | :04:18. | :04:20.
damaged in this winter's storms, are to get money to repair them from the | :04:21. | :04:25.
Welsh Government. In Rhyl where 130 homes were flooded in December, | :04:26. | :04:28.
?250,000 will be spent on projects including beach access, while Conwy | :04:29. | :04:30.
council is getting nearly ?500,000 to help restore Deganwy promenade. | :04:31. | :04:42.
There the authority says it wouldn't be able to do the work without | :04:43. | :04:48.
financial help: I have been inundated with people asking what is | :04:49. | :04:51.
happening with the gangway. It is very much used for recreational | :04:52. | :04:57.
walking, cycling, leisure, it is an integral part of the tourism here. | :04:58. | :05:02.
So you have to restore it? Absolutely, this is not an option. | :05:03. | :05:05.
What we have behind a total devastation. | :05:06. | :05:09.
Football and Match of the Day Wales is on later so if you don't want to | :05:10. | :05:13.
know the result of tonight's game, now's the time to leave the room. | :05:14. | :05:17.
And Gareth Bale led Wales to a 3-1 win over Iceland. His free kick | :05:18. | :05:21.
making it easy for James Collins to put the home side ahead. But, | :05:22. | :05:24.
Iceland were soon back level, a shot from Gudmundsson came off captain | :05:25. | :05:28.
Ashley Williams to make it 1-1 for half-time. And it was Bale who | :05:29. | :05:33.
created the chances after the break. His cross giving Sam Vokes an easy | :05:34. | :05:36.
header, before he scored the final goal himself to make it 3-1 at | :05:37. | :05:42.
fulltime. And don't forget you can see all the highlights in Match of | :05:43. | :05:46.
the Day Wales at 11.20pm, over on BBC Two Wales. | :05:47. | :05:51.
Rugby, and Scarlets centre Jonathan Davies has been recalled to the | :05:52. | :05:54.
Wales team for Sunday's Six Nations clash against England. Davies has | :05:55. | :05:57.
only played two half-matches for his region since a serious chest injury | :05:58. | :06:01.
last November. Here's Ashleigh Crowter. | :06:02. | :06:10.
He has been the missing link in Wales 's line during the current Six | :06:11. | :06:14.
Nations. Against England, with Jonathan Davies restored, the | :06:15. | :06:18.
chamber once again be complete. Before he got injured, he was Wales | :06:19. | :06:24.
most improved player. A threat in attack and defence, which led to | :06:25. | :06:29.
Lions selection. He has not played whole match since that South Africa | :06:30. | :06:32.
test in November where he tore a chest muscle off the bone, but now | :06:33. | :06:40.
he is fit, Warren Gatland let the chance to pick him. He is a | :06:41. | :06:43.
world-class player, it is not difficult for us to make the call. | :06:44. | :06:46.
Jonathan has been doing a lot of training in the last five weeks. He | :06:47. | :06:50.
has probably been doing too much, he is ready to go. In terms of being | :06:51. | :06:55.
fit, he is very sharp at the moment. He had not had a lot of rugby. The | :06:56. | :07:01.
line-up from Saturday starts -- include 11 players who started last | :07:02. | :07:10.
year. Alun Wyn Jones missed the France game, and other than him, he | :07:11. | :07:16.
is the same -- it is the same pack. Rhys Webb is partnering Rhys | :07:17. | :07:23.
Priestland, who can walk -- look forward to working with Jonathan | :07:24. | :07:28.
Davies in midfield. He will be the part of the potent three quarters | :07:29. | :07:31.
division who all one test caps for the Lions this summer. | :07:32. | :07:36.
division who all one test caps for quality player. He really | :07:37. | :07:38.
established itself as a fantastic player in the summer, and I think we | :07:39. | :07:42.
have played more times together than any other Welsh partnership for | :07:43. | :07:46.
Wales. We know each other's game inside out. That confidence | :07:47. | :07:52.
alongside John will bring out the best in our attack and defence. | :07:53. | :07:56.
England named their team on Friday morning. It is likely to bear a | :07:57. | :08:02.
close resemblance to the one that beat Ireland. | :08:03. | :08:07.
After the UK's wettest winter on record, we are on course for the | :08:08. | :08:13.
driest and warmest stretch of weather since last autumn. Before | :08:14. | :08:17.
that, cloudy with some drizzle. That will thicken across Wales, misty and | :08:18. | :08:22.
murky with patchy rain. The cloud holding up the temperatures, so much | :08:23. | :08:25.
less Colbourne last night. Overnight lows of six to eight Celsius. -- | :08:26. | :08:34.
much less cold than last night. Topics of rain on and off tomorrow, | :08:35. | :08:40.
across the UK, it is North, West, no -- North/west, South/East split. It | :08:41. | :08:46.
is Misty and murky with somewhere else across Scotland, Northern | :08:47. | :08:49.
Ireland and the North West of England. Across Wales, overcast, | :08:50. | :08:53.
Dell and Dub afternoon. More dry further east. | :08:54. | :09:01.
It is this waving weather front bringing the thicker cloud and rain. | :09:02. | :09:11.
It could turn heavy for a time, especially across North and West | :09:12. | :09:15.
Wales, Thursday night into Friday morning. Some rain turning drizzly | :09:16. | :09:20.
and cloudy, brightening up through the day on Friday. Breezy and | :09:21. | :09:23.
staying mild. This low pressure system is being pushed back | :09:24. | :09:27.
northwards by high pressure building from the South on Saturday. These | :09:28. | :09:31.
isobars straighten out meaning the winds turn more southerly, drawing | :09:32. | :09:37.
up warm air from the Azores. Tomorrow and Friday, cloudy, rain | :09:38. | :09:41.
and brightness. Then a cold start on Saturday, turning milder, warmer by | :09:42. | :09:46.
day. Not always sunny. We could see some overnight frosts. | :09:47. | :09:50.
Next, Carwyn Jones on the future course of devolution. That is all | :09:51. | :09:55.
from us. | :09:56. | :09:58. |
