And now the news for the East Midlands. I'm Dominic Heale. Good

evening. A pensioner has died after what's believed to have been an

altercation on a housing estate in Nottinghamshire. The police were

called to the street in Rainworth at midday today. Two people were

later arrested. James Roberson reports.

The emergency services had been on this estate on the eastern side of

a Rainworth for most of this afternoon. The police arrived at my

game after reports of a disturbance and possible attack on Pearl Close

behind me. Residents told me the calm of the neighbourhood had been

shattered, many not knowing what had happened. There was a lot of

activity outside. A lot of police cars turned up. They sealed the

road of. The police later confirmed that a 70-year-old man had been

injured. Paramedics went to the straight but pronounced the man

dead at the scene. He has not yet been named. It would appear that

the Mail had been subjected to some kind of violent assault. As a

result, two people have been arrested and are in custody and

helping us with our inquiries. We would like to thank all the

residents on this street and reassure them it is just an

isolated incident. They have provided us with invaluable support

at a difficult time. A post-mortem to establish exact cause of death

is expected to be carried out this evening or early tomorrow.

A murder inquiry has begun after a woman was found dead at a house at

Bilborough in Nottingham on Christmas Day afternoon. A man was

also seriously injured. Police were still outside the house on Bosden

Close in the town today. The woman who died has not been named. A 56-

year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Neighbours say there was a huge amount of police activity.

A man has died in a fire which broke out yesterday morning. Fire

crews were called to a residential block of flats for older people on

Woodborough Road in Nottingham. It's thought one man jumped from

the first floor flat to escape the blaze. But the body of another man

was found by fire crews. A man given just days to live is

said to be doing well after having a bone marrow transplant on

Christmas Eve. Rik Basra, who's a Leicestershire police inspector,

suffers from leukaemia. A donor match was found in Germany four

days before Christmas. This morning, his wife said Rik was already up

and about in hospital. The donor was found after an extensive search

within the Asian community both in the UK and abroad.

Onto football, and all three of our Championship teams have been in

action today. Mark Shardlow reports. More than 33,000 fans were at pride

Park to see Derby beat Leeds. The only goal came midway through the

second half. It was Derby's first team sheet since September. There

was controversy after just 24 seconds at the Walker stadium.

Leicester were awarded a penalty for handball in the second half.

Paul Gallagher scored this one. Leicester were level but could not

corner to win the game. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest's miserable form

continued away to Peterborough. And now for a quick look at the
