upheaval of August 1914. That is all from us, | :00:00. | :00:09.
And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Anne Davies. | :00:10. | :00:18.
First tonight, five people have denied murdering four members of the | :00:19. | :00:23.
same family in a house fire in Leicester. | :00:24. | :00:25.
In a separate case, two men pleaded not guilty to the murder of the | :00:26. | :00:29.
football coach Antoin Akpom in the same city a few hours earlier. | :00:30. | :00:39.
In the early evening of September 12 last year on Kent Street in | :00:40. | :00:43.
Leicester, Antoin Akpom, a 20`year`old football coach was | :00:44. | :00:46.
killed by a single stab wound. Today at Birmingham Crown Court, two | :00:47. | :00:49.
19`year`old men from Leicester, Hussein Hussein and Abdul Hakim both | :00:50. | :00:52.
pleaded not guilty to a murder charge. They remain in custody. | :00:53. | :01:01.
In the early hours of 13 September last year, Shehnila Taufiq and her | :01:02. | :01:04.
three teenage children were killed in a fire in their house in the Wood | :01:05. | :01:08.
Hill area of Leicester. Today, five of those accused on four counts of | :01:09. | :01:12.
murder entered pleas. They are all aged between 17 and 24. Shaun | :01:13. | :01:15.
Carter, Jackson Powell, Akeem Jeffers and Tristan Richards and a | :01:16. | :01:19.
youth who cannot be named because of his age, all pleaded not guilty to | :01:20. | :01:22.
all charges. They were remanded into custody. | :01:23. | :01:31.
A mistake meant that three other men who faced the same charges were not | :01:32. | :01:35.
brought to court today. They will now enter pleas in March. The High | :01:36. | :01:41.
Court judge ruled there was enough self contained evidence for both | :01:42. | :01:44.
cases to be heard at separate trials. The stabbing case is being | :01:45. | :01:47.
set for the beginning of April and the house fire trial will start | :01:48. | :01:51.
three weeks later. The first is expected to last up to three weeks, | :01:52. | :01:53.
the second could take up to eight. A woman suffered multiple injuries | :01:54. | :02:05.
after falling down stairs while sleepwalking. Morag Fisher needed | :02:06. | :02:10.
two emergency operations. Experts at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre | :02:11. | :02:13.
say they see two or three cases a year of people being badly hurt | :02:14. | :02:15.
because of sleepwalking. The right wrist has healed well... | :02:16. | :02:27.
Morag's injuries were life threatening. Sleepwalking, she fell | :02:28. | :02:34.
downstairs at her partner's home. I was in a strange house, not my own | :02:35. | :02:38.
home, which I think was a major factor in the accident. | :02:39. | :02:45.
Having heard she fell down a flight of stairs I am not surprised that | :02:46. | :02:50.
she had a catalogue of injuries. Facial injuries, broken nose, | :02:51. | :02:53.
cheekbone, ribs, damaged vertebra in her back, broken wrists. | :02:54. | :03:01.
I'm very lucky to be here. This is where your girlfriend fell | :03:02. | :03:07.
down. At 5am I heard a massive crash and | :03:08. | :03:16.
she had hit the door. I came out of the bedroom and found her where we | :03:17. | :03:20.
are standing now. If she had banged her head or twisted her spine in the | :03:21. | :03:24.
wrong way, it could have been a lot worse. | :03:25. | :03:27.
She spent ten days in the East Midlands major trauma unit at | :03:28. | :03:30.
Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre. I think she must have gone | :03:31. | :03:33.
headfirst, given the way she landed and her injuries. She must have | :03:34. | :03:37.
landed on her face with her arms outstretched. She had some pretty | :03:38. | :03:38.
nasty injuries. It's thought one in three children | :03:39. | :03:48.
will sleepwalk at some point and an American study revealed that one in | :03:49. | :03:51.
30 adults reported sleepwalking in the previous year. It usually occurs | :03:52. | :03:54.
during deep sleep and in the first few hours after falling asleep. | :03:55. | :04:02.
They can't see, even though their eyes are open. They don't go around | :04:03. | :04:08.
with their hands in front of them, as you see in cartoons. They | :04:09. | :04:11.
sometimes forget where they are in the house. | :04:12. | :04:14.
The NHS gets so much bad press. But I would not have gone the treatment | :04:15. | :04:18.
I got anywhere else in the world. And with her body healing, Morag has | :04:19. | :04:23.
now fitted stair gates at home. The full effects of the weekend's | :04:24. | :04:26.
storms are still being assessed across the region. Roofs and fences | :04:27. | :04:29.
were damaged with some people claiming a mini hurricane had ripped | :04:30. | :04:32.
off tiles. But the most dramatic incident was caught on CCTV when | :04:33. | :04:35.
lightning struck a temple in Leicester. | :04:36. | :04:42.
Cameras capture the dramatic moment lightning strikes. | :04:43. | :04:46.
It looked as if the whole area had been eliminated by the flash of | :04:47. | :04:48.
lightning. As the ceiling crashes down, a group | :04:49. | :04:51.
of worshippers have a very narrow escape. | :04:52. | :04:54.
The rear wall and the roof where literally blown off. | :04:55. | :05:01.
And from the outside, CCTV cameras capture the debris flying across the | :05:02. | :05:04.
road. The force is so great, it knocks the camera on its side. | :05:05. | :05:08.
There was a particular car parked there and one of the beams went | :05:09. | :05:11.
through the windscreen like a javelin. It was lodged inside the | :05:12. | :05:14.
dashboard. There were three people in it, but one of them had a glass | :05:15. | :05:17.
cut, that was it. Today the full extent of the damage | :05:18. | :05:28.
to the Ramgarhia Sikh temple can be clearly seen. Structural engineers | :05:29. | :05:33.
are working out how and when it can be repaired. Despite the rubble, | :05:34. | :05:35.
there's relief that only the building bore the brunt of the | :05:36. | :05:37.
storm. People were very fortunate not to be | :05:38. | :05:41.
injured. If that had happened while the congregation hall was full, then | :05:42. | :05:58.
we would have had fatalities. And still with the weather ` it | :05:59. | :06:02.
could be another six months before a council report into last summer's | :06:03. | :06:06.
floods in the Southwell area is made public. Last July, dozens of homes | :06:07. | :06:08.
and businesses were swamped when three inches of rain fell in a few | :06:09. | :06:11.
hours. Nottinghamshire County Council says it has gathered a huge | :06:12. | :06:15.
amount of information about the town's water courses, which is | :06:16. | :06:18.
helping them draw up more robust anti`flooding measures. | :06:19. | :06:26.
Hello. There is more rain to come in the next 24 hours. This time, in the | :06:27. | :06:38.
form of showers. We will also have some brisk south`westerly winds. | :06:39. | :06:48.
These will form in bands of showers. There could be a wintry element | :06:49. | :06:52.
across the Peak District from time to time. Tomorrow morning we had | :06:53. | :07:01.
showers from the word go and they will be coming in thick and fast | :07:02. | :07:07.
through the morning. Some dry places in between if you're lucky. But it | :07:08. | :07:15.
feel quite cold. A possibility of some hail and Thunder thrown in for | :07:16. | :07:23.
good measure. Fewer showers on Wednesday but it is turning a lot | :07:24. | :07:24.
colder. It's going to get colder than it's | :07:25. | :07:44.
been all winter. Ahead of that, though, the showers keep going and | :07:45. | :07:48.
going through tonight and into tomorrow. Some of them heavy, | :07:49. | :07:53.
possibly thundery too. Here's the satellite. We can pick out the swirl | :07:54. | :07:58.
of cloud here. The bands of shower clouds that have been streaming into | :07:59. | :08:02.
the UK. All driven and wrapped around an area of low. That is the | :08:03. | :08:05.
driving force for the showers that we have at the moment. The centre | :08:06. | :08:09.
close to Northern Ireland, which is why it's been so wet earlier in the | :08:10. | :08:13.
evening. As the low drifts south, it takes more showers into England and | :08:14. | :08:17.
Wales. With fewer breaks in the cloud overnight, | :08:18. | :08:18. |
