It's almost 6.30pm - you're watching East Midlands Today. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight - ?90 million to boost this region's economy. | :00:00. | :00:10.
A day after the budget, Chancellor Philip Hammond fires up the middle | :00:11. | :00:22.
and engine. Huge centres of successful entrepreneurial small | :00:23. | :00:24.
businesses and we are backing them all the way. The Nottinghamshire | :00:25. | :00:34.
woman who uncovered the national obvious orders an enquiry. | :00:35. | :00:40.
Protesters and some tough questions over its plan to end children's | :00:41. | :00:44.
heart surgery here in the East Midlands. And find out why boxing | :00:45. | :00:49.
legend Frank Bruno is throwing his weight behind this boxing school. | :00:50. | :01:00.
Welcome to Thursday's programme with Dominic Heale | :01:01. | :01:04.
First tonight, the chancellor Phillip Hammond has announced | :01:05. | :01:09.
a 90 million pound cash injection for this region. | :01:10. | :01:14.
The move, to boost our economy, has been widely welcomed. | :01:15. | :01:16.
It's predicted thousands of jobs could be created. | :01:17. | :01:18.
The money will go on a variety of projects, including | :01:19. | :01:21.
regenerating Derby City Centre, creating a space park in Leicester, | :01:22. | :01:23.
improving road links around Loughborough and improving town | :01:24. | :01:25.
In a moment we'll have local reaction to the news, | :01:26. | :01:34.
but first Sarah Teale looks at exactly where the | :01:35. | :01:36.
The Chancellor's visit to the Midlands today may have been | :01:37. | :01:44.
overshadowed by the uproar over national insurance | :01:45. | :01:45.
But Philip Hammond was here to shine the spotlight | :01:46. | :01:52.
on a ?390 million pound investment into the Midlands Engine - | :01:53. | :01:55.
the equivalent to the Northern Powerhouse, it's the government's | :01:56. | :01:58.
plan for boosting economic growth in the region. | :01:59. | :02:00.
From that pot the East Midlands will receive ?90 million pounds. | :02:01. | :02:09.
Pal tell you the good news, I used to live in Nottingham, I don't just | :02:10. | :02:15.
think about the West Midlands, I know the East Midlands as a | :02:16. | :02:19.
powerhouse small business. Across the East Midlands, Nottingham, | :02:20. | :02:23.
Leicester, huge centres of successful entrepreneurial small | :02:24. | :02:25.
businesses and we're backing them the way. | :02:26. | :02:26.
The cash is being spread across the region. | :02:27. | :02:34.
One of the biggest spends, almost ?13 millions, | :02:35. | :02:36.
will go towards developing a Space Park in Leicester | :02:37. | :02:38.
which will become a national hub for for research and learning. | :02:39. | :02:41.
And ?12 million will be spent on improving roads around | :02:42. | :02:43.
Loughborough including the A512 and the M1 junction 23. | :02:44. | :02:45.
That will unlock land for 4,000 new homes. | :02:46. | :02:49.
Derby is set to receive more than 11 million pounds to regenerate | :02:50. | :02:52.
the city centre and fund a replacement performance venue | :02:53. | :02:54.
And two million pounds has been allocated towards | :02:55. | :03:00.
a new museum and attraction at Derwent Valley Mills | :03:01. | :03:02.
In Nottinghamshire, some ?8 million pounds is going towards regenerating | :03:03. | :03:09.
town centres and redeveloping Nottingham Castle. | :03:10. | :03:14.
And ?10 million is being spent on refurbishing | :03:15. | :03:16.
the Broadmarsh car park and bus station. | :03:17. | :03:18.
While those are the headline figures, many more millions | :03:19. | :03:20.
are being pumped into other projects around the region. | :03:21. | :03:22.
Quentin Rayner has spent the day gathering reaction | :03:23. | :03:24.
Sherwood Forest's heroes became legends by handing out bounty to the | :03:25. | :03:37.
needy. This afternoon the local clothes than it was walking in the | :03:38. | :03:42.
outlaws footsteps with with ?63 million on his back pocket to boost | :03:43. | :03:45.
growth in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire. Half a million quid to | :03:46. | :03:49.
help the new visitor centre in the forest on the boat will go towards | :03:50. | :03:53.
regenerating sites across the two counties. Big vote of confidence, it | :03:54. | :03:59.
will help us create over 6500 jobs, ?150 million of private investment, | :04:00. | :04:05.
over 6000 homes and 2000 learners. It's a good result for other local | :04:06. | :04:08.
enterprise partnership, one of the biggest allocations in the country | :04:09. | :04:11.
and I think that demonstrates the government have confidence we can | :04:12. | :04:15.
deliver the jobs and growth they want. The East Midlands's is less is | :04:16. | :04:19.
only a quarter of the overall growth fund for the Midlands but the | :04:20. | :04:23.
minister doesn't swallow the idea that this side of the region is the | :04:24. | :04:26.
poor relation. The idea that the government picks winners between | :04:27. | :04:29.
different regions of the country is nonsense. We are investing in the | :04:30. | :04:33.
East Midlands and the Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber and the Midwest | :04:34. | :04:37.
because we're absolutely genuine when we say we want to create an | :04:38. | :04:43.
economy that works for. His colleague, Marcus John says space | :04:44. | :04:48.
technology with Leicester at its hub was crucial to the UK's growth, so | :04:49. | :04:52.
there was ?1 million for an extension of the National space | :04:53. | :04:55.
centre and ?30 million for a space park in the city. Another million | :04:56. | :05:00.
pounds is available for road improvements. We have to look at the | :05:01. | :05:05.
enterprise last month and it's backed up with some real substantial | :05:06. | :05:10.
funding, ?26 million, so I really significantly because we have money | :05:11. | :05:13.
to be behind things. Sherwood Forest's new centre should be built | :05:14. | :05:17.
by next spring, it's unclear when other projects will get going. | :05:18. | :05:20.
Our political editor Tony Roe is here. | :05:21. | :05:22.
So we heard last night from MPs who feared the East Midlands | :05:23. | :05:25.
would be a junior partner in the Midlands engine. | :05:26. | :05:27.
I think so because if you look at the figures, ?90 million is quite a | :05:28. | :05:38.
lot when you take what each individual area gets. Derbyshire are | :05:39. | :05:44.
Nottinghamshire and Derby and Nottingham, they get more than any | :05:45. | :05:47.
other part of the Midlands as a whole, more than Greater Birmingham. | :05:48. | :05:53.
And the Leicester and Leicestershire partnership, they get more than | :05:54. | :05:56.
Stoke and Staffordshire, so if you look at it like that, we've done | :05:57. | :05:59.
quite well and also remember that the chairman of the Midlands engine | :06:00. | :06:04.
is John peace, he's from Nottingham, so he will have the East Midlands's | :06:05. | :06:08.
interests at heart. This funding announcement is for four years but a | :06:09. | :06:12.
lot of these projects will last a lot longer than that. They've got | :06:13. | :06:17.
money to spend on where the project should go and we're talking about | :06:18. | :06:21.
infrastructure in particular roads and transport. Midland Main line | :06:22. | :06:24.
electrification is still on their list. We haven't had a confirmation | :06:25. | :06:27.
from the government yet that is going ahead but still on their list. | :06:28. | :06:33.
Many road schemes, not just the ?12 million near junction 23 because the | :06:34. | :06:36.
roads do need some work doing to them. There are so many pinch | :06:37. | :06:40.
points. I was out today filming for Sunday politics at a haulage company | :06:41. | :06:46.
and they are saying it causes them so many problems because they never | :06:47. | :06:49.
know when the delays will happen and it costs them time and money. Thanks | :06:50. | :06:51.
very much. The former Nottingham social | :06:52. | :06:55.
worker who uncovered a child migration scandal, | :06:56. | :06:58.
says "torture, rape and slavery" were covered up | :06:59. | :07:00.
at the highest levels. Margaret Humphreys has been giving | :07:01. | :07:02.
evidence to the "Independent Inquiry Our Social Affairs Correspondent, | :07:03. | :07:04.
Jeremy Ball, reports The smiling faces of British | :07:05. | :07:20.
children who were shipped across the Empire but today the National | :07:21. | :07:25.
enquiry had they were deported and raped and this was the most | :07:26. | :07:27.
catastrophic child abuse legacy in living memory. Look at the | :07:28. | :07:32.
violations that we've heard them talk about two hours. Kidnapping, | :07:33. | :07:38.
sexual abuse in the UK before they were sent, before they were sent! | :07:39. | :07:44.
Starting all over again in various institutions within the | :07:45. | :07:48.
Commonwealth. Margaret's 30-year quest for justice prompted this | :07:49. | :07:51.
feature film. Today she described how victims were stripped of their | :07:52. | :07:56.
identity, some were flogged just for singing British nursery rhymes. The | :07:57. | :08:00.
Inquirer had how she set up the child migrants trust are | :08:01. | :08:02.
Nottinghamshire after victims had been told they were orphans and | :08:03. | :08:06.
discovered it wasn't true. One mother went to visit a children's | :08:07. | :08:09.
home as her son was being taken away. He said as the train pulled | :08:10. | :08:14.
out she was screaming and crying, get the children off, get the | :08:15. | :08:19.
children off. Stop the train. Her boy put his fist at the window and | :08:20. | :08:23.
shouted I'll never forget you, ma'am. Doctor Humphreys told enquiry | :08:24. | :08:28.
that my children were selected for migration to preserve the British | :08:29. | :08:32.
Empire's racial unity. She said many were used as slave labour on farms. | :08:33. | :08:37.
Margaret Humphreys told enquiry that record is about children were | :08:38. | :08:40.
deliberately destroyed. Social workers raised concerns and they | :08:41. | :08:47.
were ignored and her charity is now reunited well over 1000 child | :08:48. | :08:48.
migrants with their families. Still to come - a host | :08:49. | :08:53.
of golden daffodils - All spied by our growing army | :08:54. | :08:56.
of weather watchers. Sara's standing | :08:57. | :09:02.
by with our forecast. A man has been airlifted to hospital | :09:03. | :09:10.
with serious injuries after a collision involving six | :09:11. | :09:13.
vehicles on the A1. The crash happened just before 8 | :09:14. | :09:16.
this morning on the northbound It's thought to have | :09:17. | :09:19.
involved several cars, One of the lorries, | :09:20. | :09:24.
which was carrying a shipping A man who was trapped | :09:25. | :09:28.
in the wreckage, has been taken The road's been closed in both | :09:29. | :09:32.
directions, but police say it's Leicestershire Police say a man | :09:33. | :09:36.
found fatally injured in the street outside Leicester Railway Station | :09:37. | :09:41.
had been stabbed to death. Officers believe the victim, | :09:42. | :09:44.
who hasn't been formally identified He was found shortly after midnight | :09:45. | :09:46.
yesterday on London Road. A 30 year old Leicester man | :09:47. | :09:50.
was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday afternoon | :09:51. | :09:52.
and remains in custody. NHS England is facing tough | :09:53. | :10:02.
questioning tonight from campaigners fighting to save the East Midlands | :10:03. | :10:06.
children's heart surgery unit. Tonight's public consultation event | :10:07. | :10:11.
into the plans to close the unit at Glenfield Hospital started half | :10:12. | :10:16.
an hour ago. Protestors have also gathered | :10:17. | :10:18.
outside as there's been criticism that everyone who wanted to go | :10:19. | :10:20.
could get tickets. We'll be hearing from our health | :10:21. | :10:25.
correspondent Rob Sissons in a moment but first how have | :10:26. | :10:27.
we got to this point - there have been so many twists and turn - | :10:28. | :10:31.
here's how it all began. Question has been hanging over the | :10:32. | :10:42.
future of Leicester getting children's heart surgery unit for 20 | :10:43. | :10:47.
years. It follows the heart scandal in Bristol, where high rates of | :10:48. | :10:52.
babies died after heart operations in the 80s and 90s. The hard-hitting | :10:53. | :10:55.
report that followed led to demands for fewer bigger centres bringing | :10:56. | :11:04.
expertise together and controversial choices were avoided. A review is | :11:05. | :11:08.
being carried out across England and there is speculation that at least | :11:09. | :11:13.
four on the country's 11 children's heart units may stop operations. In | :11:14. | :11:17.
Leicester, this intent to the streets and they went to the top. | :11:18. | :11:21.
Their wares celebrity backing, thousands of people filled in | :11:22. | :11:28.
consultation forms. With the world-famous service alongside the | :11:29. | :11:32.
heart unit, they felt upbeat but other cities were fighting two. | :11:33. | :11:37.
Proved winners. Our reward is staying! CHEERING | :11:38. | :11:42.
. Leicester and Leeds were losers. Also tonight, ending children's | :11:43. | :11:48.
heart surgery in the East Midlands. The experts defend their decision. | :11:49. | :11:51.
By having bigger teams of surgeons doing more cases in the centre, we | :11:52. | :11:57.
can maintain a high quality service in the future. After challenges, the | :11:58. | :12:02.
Health Secretary eventually overturned the reviews findings. The | :12:03. | :12:05.
outcome on the safe and sustainable review was based on a flawed | :12:06. | :12:10.
analysis. Another review but with NHS England proposing to end surgery | :12:11. | :12:15.
in Leicester and at the Royal Brompton in London, the East | :12:16. | :12:18.
Midlands's fight was back on. To bring us right up to date, that | :12:19. | :12:22.
consultation meeting going on this evening, robbers they are now. Good | :12:23. | :12:29.
evening. Passions running very high here in Leicester, so many people | :12:30. | :12:33.
care about the future of children's heart surgery in Leicester which has | :12:34. | :12:37.
been under threat for so many years, we've come to expect the unexpected | :12:38. | :12:42.
in this saga. The meeting which is happening out there in one of the | :12:43. | :12:45.
rooms at Leicester Tigers is being streamed live on the Internet. Spent | :12:46. | :12:50.
quite a lot of time explaining the ground rules. One of the reasons for | :12:51. | :12:55.
that is because there is always the risk of temper is becoming a little | :12:56. | :12:59.
bit frayed in all of this. I've been to speak to one family at Coalville | :13:00. | :13:03.
in Leicestershire and I told to the mother of a little boy who is in the | :13:04. | :13:07.
meeting behind me and she explained why she cares so much about the | :13:08. | :13:11.
future of the hard service in Leicester. I'm Jess Whitehouse, my | :13:12. | :13:18.
son was born 11 weeks ago and we discovered he had down syndrome and | :13:19. | :13:21.
as a direct result of that he also had a heart condition where he had | :13:22. | :13:25.
two large holes in his hand. Glenfield heart unit, I'm eternally | :13:26. | :13:31.
grateful to them and without them we wouldn't be here today. I'm | :13:32. | :13:33.
disgusted there is a threat to the heart unit. The standard of care | :13:34. | :13:37.
there is absolutely fantastic from start to finish. I'm very passionate | :13:38. | :13:40.
about this, so much so that last month myself I were to donate 50 | :13:41. | :13:48.
hand a petition. I do feel the campaign will be successful because | :13:49. | :13:51.
I think if it goes to a fair panel there is no way they can justify | :13:52. | :14:00.
closing the unit. A short time ago I spoke to someone from NHS England | :14:01. | :14:03.
and ask them what they were trying to achieve by all of this. The | :14:04. | :14:07.
reason why we're here today is that we've developed initial proposals to | :14:08. | :14:12.
the consequences of how services should be delivered. We are now out | :14:13. | :14:16.
to consultation and we are here in Leicester very much to listen to the | :14:17. | :14:20.
public and very interested to know whether these proposals make sense. | :14:21. | :14:23.
Campaigners don't think they make sense and many suspect this process | :14:24. | :14:28.
is rigged. I would definitely say this process is not rigged. There | :14:29. | :14:31.
are no predetermined numbers of centres with NHS England. What we | :14:32. | :14:37.
remain very firm about is that having spent a lot of time in | :14:38. | :14:44.
consultation with charities, with patients, with professionals in | :14:45. | :14:48.
developing the standards, we do need to implement them so that we can | :14:49. | :14:54.
provide the best possible care. Let's have a chat with some of the | :14:55. | :14:58.
people who haven't got tickets, they are not at the meeting but they are | :14:59. | :15:03.
outside making their point. Sally, you went to the unit at Glenfield a | :15:04. | :15:08.
few years ago. Our twin sons were eight weeks premature on one of them | :15:09. | :15:11.
had a suspected hole in their hearts so he was referred to Glenfield and | :15:12. | :15:15.
had a couple of visits. Thankfully everything was OK? Fantastic | :15:16. | :15:22.
treatment and fantastic care. Do you not buy the argument that fewer | :15:23. | :15:26.
bigger centres would save more lives. The fact it was local for us | :15:27. | :15:32.
took some concern out of it and it was a fantastic unit. Some deals | :15:33. | :15:37.
here is Tom, why are you here? I oppose the closure of the heart | :15:38. | :15:42.
unit. Out here right now standing in solidarity with all of the people | :15:43. | :15:45.
that have been unable to register for this event. They called it a | :15:46. | :15:50.
public consultation. You're not impressed with the organisation? | :15:51. | :15:54.
There was a demonstration a few weeks ago that had two dozen people | :15:55. | :15:57.
just in Leicester, the fact they have a room for 150 people is not | :15:58. | :16:02.
good enough. Quick word with Darren. What do you think? You wanted to | :16:03. | :16:08.
stay? Of course, the distances would be too great if this unit is closed | :16:09. | :16:14.
and it's a symptom of a wider problem to privatise the NHS. We | :16:15. | :16:17.
don't want to see patients go to Birmingham, that's the message from | :16:18. | :16:18.
people here. Two men have been found guilty | :16:19. | :16:23.
of conspiring to commit fraud by telling businesses | :16:24. | :16:26.
they were selling them halal lamb Mahmudur Rohman and Kamal Rahman | :16:27. | :16:28.
imported the cheaper They sold it to dozens of customers | :16:29. | :16:32.
in the East Midlands for almost double the price, | :16:33. | :16:37.
making a profit of hundreds These two men were involved in | :16:38. | :16:52.
selling meat on a big scale. In court today, Kamal Rahman and | :16:53. | :16:57.
Mahmudur Rohman were found guilty of running a fraudulent operation. They | :16:58. | :17:03.
were based in Peterborough but it sold meat to restaurants, takeaways | :17:04. | :17:07.
and butchers here in Leicestershire and beyond. The men told customers, | :17:08. | :17:14.
like this butchers, that the meat was boneless leg of lamb but it was | :17:15. | :17:19.
actually Turkey, much cheaper, which they then sold for double the price. | :17:20. | :17:22.
There maybe some people watching this at home who are thinking, hang | :17:23. | :17:26.
on a minute, he's a butcher, how could you not tell the difference | :17:27. | :17:30.
between what is lamb meat and what turkey meat, what would you say to | :17:31. | :17:36.
that? We never chop them, we never cut them for customers. We don't | :17:37. | :17:40.
know what the meat looks like and it's very young but the colour of | :17:41. | :17:45.
the meat is different. If you look at it, it's just read lamb meat. You | :17:46. | :17:55.
can't tell. This is actually some of the turkey meat that was sold off to | :17:56. | :18:02.
a local butchers as halal lamb meat. Authorities raised concerns when | :18:03. | :18:06.
meat was tested in the East Midlands area in 2013 after the horse meat | :18:07. | :18:10.
scandal. That testing revealed that meat in the region was not what it | :18:11. | :18:16.
had been labelled as. Leicester City Council's investigation linked the | :18:17. | :18:24.
need to the company. Any reaction? No. The judge told the men their | :18:25. | :18:28.
crime was a serious matter. They will be sentenced next month. | :18:29. | :18:35.
Still to come - tram 222 gets a new name | :18:36. | :18:46.
It's named after an inspirational couple whose work has touched | :18:47. | :18:48.
the lives and hearts of so many people. | :18:49. | :18:54.
That tram naming coming up after the sport. | :18:55. | :19:01.
Starting with cricket and straight into the action because THIS is how | :19:02. | :19:04.
Nottinghamshire's Alex Hales was finally fit to play for England | :19:05. | :19:08.
and promptly scored his fifth one day century. | :19:09. | :19:11.
This six a stunning way to cross the line. | :19:12. | :19:21.
He finally fell for a 110 at over a run every ball. | :19:22. | :19:24.
After a month and a half out - and doubts over his form - | :19:25. | :19:27.
Some quick lines from our football clubs. | :19:28. | :19:30.
Leicester City are back from warm weather training in Dubai - | :19:31. | :19:33.
still no official word on the expected appointment | :19:34. | :19:35.
Nottingham Forest's visit to Burton will be an "emotional occasion" | :19:36. | :19:38.
according to Brewers manager Nigel Clough. | :19:39. | :19:40.
He was heavily linked with the Forest job, | :19:41. | :19:42.
And Derby County have lost midfielder Bradley | :19:43. | :19:43.
They go to promotion chasing Brighton tomorrow. | :19:44. | :19:46.
It's Badminton's equivalent of Wimbledon - | :19:47. | :19:48.
the All England Championships - and Nottingham's Chris Adcock, | :19:49. | :19:50.
along with wife and partner Gabby is through to the Mixed Doubles | :19:51. | :19:53.
This afternoon they got past Singapore's Xu Chen | :19:54. | :19:56.
It's our home event but the history and everything behind it is amazing. | :19:57. | :20:12.
In terms of playing an event is the best one for us, incredibly exciting | :20:13. | :20:16.
when you get to this point in the calendar year. It's obviously better | :20:17. | :20:19.
if you do well, so hopefully we can have a long week. | :20:20. | :20:20.
Finally, you'll remember Marcellus Baz - the winner of BBC | :20:21. | :20:22.
He runs a boxing school in Nottingham helping youngsters | :20:23. | :20:28.
But he's had a bit of a battle lately trying to finance | :20:29. | :20:34.
Well today he got a big boost from sporting royalty. | :20:35. | :20:38.
Former World Heavyweight Champion Frank Bruno came to visit, | :20:39. | :20:40.
The Nottingham School of boxing is absolutely buzzing here and why | :20:41. | :20:52.
wouldn't it be, one of the two Legends of the sport this year and | :20:53. | :20:56.
will speak to him in a second. Marcellus Baz, where are you in your | :20:57. | :20:59.
mission to keep the Nottingham School of boxing in a permanent | :21:00. | :21:04.
home? We are still raising funds, we've got absolutely magnificent | :21:05. | :21:10.
sport from our community and we are in talks with the Heritage lottery | :21:11. | :21:15.
and sport England and we are optimistic, we're really excited. We | :21:16. | :21:19.
want to make it our permanent home. How exciting is to have Frank Bruno | :21:20. | :21:23.
here? It's absolutely magnificent, words can't explain it. This was my | :21:24. | :21:27.
childhood role model. By Kizzire to support the cause and you've been in | :21:28. | :21:32.
the ring with him. Did you ever think you'd be in the ring with | :21:33. | :21:37.
Frank Bruno? Quite honestly no. I wouldn't think I would be sparring | :21:38. | :21:41.
with Frank Bruno. Very good experience. I can imagine it was. | :21:42. | :21:45.
That's something to tell a story for a long time to come! Let speak to | :21:46. | :21:50.
the man himself, Mr Frank Bruno. Pleasure to meet you. Justin Beaver | :21:51. | :21:53.
going on there! How did you first come into contact | :21:54. | :22:01.
with Marcellus Baz and are Nottingham School boxing? A man | :22:02. | :22:07.
working at the Frank Bruno foundation got in touch with | :22:08. | :22:11.
Marcellus Baz and trying to swap ideas. What do you make of the work | :22:12. | :22:16.
that Marcellus Baz does here? It's very good, with the youngsters | :22:17. | :22:20.
getting them off the street and getting them involved with | :22:21. | :22:23.
physicality and manners and if they're going through mental health | :22:24. | :22:27.
problems, come down there, let off some steam, go out and feel | :22:28. | :22:30.
brand-new. How important is it for boxing and the sport's future that | :22:31. | :22:33.
people like Marcellus Baz give up their time? It's very nice, needs to | :22:34. | :22:40.
happen all the way round the country to get some discipline amongst kids, | :22:41. | :22:45.
getting fitness instead of playing computers. You must be hoping this | :22:46. | :22:48.
place finds the permanent home and can pay the bill. Hopefully, give | :22:49. | :22:53.
them a good discount on knock-off the VAT. What do you make to | :22:54. | :22:58.
Nottingham, have you picked up any of the local catchphrases? I did | :22:59. | :23:03.
pantomime in Nottingham and I've been here quite a lot. Nice people. | :23:04. | :23:10.
Absolute pleasure to meet you, thank you very much. As the Nottingham | :23:11. | :23:13.
School of boxing looks for a permanent home, it certainly got a | :23:14. | :23:16.
heavyweight of the sport fighting its corner. | :23:17. | :23:24.
I love Frank Bruno, such a great voice. So deep. | :23:25. | :23:28.
Believe it or not today is the 13th anniversary | :23:29. | :23:30.
of the tram in Nottingham and, to celebrate, tram 222 | :23:31. | :23:33.
was re-named as part of NET Tram's Community Hero Award. | :23:34. | :23:37.
It's only the second time this award has been given and it went | :23:38. | :23:40.
to a couple whose charity is helping parents across the East Midlands. | :23:41. | :23:43.
One, two, three. The Richard and Michelle Daniels tram takes to the | :23:44. | :24:00.
tracks. The charity has made a huge difference in the three years it's | :24:01. | :24:04.
been going. After the little girl Emily was stillborn, they set about | :24:05. | :24:08.
raising money to build a special serenity suite in the Queen 's | :24:09. | :24:11.
medical centre. It opened and now they're raising money for the City | :24:12. | :24:15.
Hospital and they have their sights on Derby as well. They bring people | :24:16. | :24:20.
together, they inspire people and they help people, genuinely, who | :24:21. | :24:24.
suffer that terrible loss of a stillborn baby. To the stars | :24:25. | :24:28.
themselves, Richard and Michelle. What is a feeling to have a tram | :24:29. | :24:33.
named after you? It's amazing, quite funny. Hopefully it will get the | :24:34. | :24:38.
message out to the rest of the city about forever stars and we are | :24:39. | :24:41.
desperately trying to get people to talk about stillbirth and remove the | :24:42. | :24:45.
taboo on what a brilliant way to do it. As Richard said, Nottingham to | :24:46. | :24:50.
the charity to its heart and it's appropriate that tram should now | :24:51. | :24:53.
travel to the heart of Nottingham. I think Finley has it about right. My | :24:54. | :24:58.
mummy and daddy are great. That's so lovely. I hope he says that when | :24:59. | :25:02.
he's 17. Unlikely! The weather now. Nice today, my daffodils in the | :25:03. | :25:12.
garden have decided to wake up. Very pleasant but also quite blustery at | :25:13. | :25:17.
times. We saw the cloud varying in the daytime, this is the early | :25:18. | :25:20.
satellite picture but they cleared nicely as we head into the afternoon | :25:21. | :25:25.
and that was captured once again by our weather watchers busy outside | :25:26. | :25:28.
taking those photos for us across the East Midlands and thank you for | :25:29. | :25:32.
sending them into day. Just showing what a lovely day it was. We will | :25:33. | :25:35.
find the weather changes through this and into tomorrow but it's | :25:36. | :25:40.
clear skies out there at the moment, so that's the coldest part of the | :25:41. | :25:44.
night tonight. The temperatures in rural parts could be just about past | :25:45. | :25:49.
freezing at the time. A feel of high cloud coming into the early hours, | :25:50. | :25:54.
so we will end at around five Celsius into the early part of | :25:55. | :25:57.
tomorrow morning. The cloud that will thicken up throughout the | :25:58. | :26:01.
daytime tomorrow is bright to start initially but gradually starts to | :26:02. | :26:06.
bring some patchy drizzle as we head into the afternoon and this weather | :26:07. | :26:08.
front has been keeping the south-west of the country and fog, | :26:09. | :26:13.
so some misty conditions linked to this. I'll be on the wind continues | :26:14. | :26:17.
to come from the south but it will be lighter than it was today and the | :26:18. | :26:20.
daytime temperature should be in the region of 11 Celsius. As one weather | :26:21. | :26:25.
front clears into the early part of Saturday we should find this guy | :26:26. | :26:30.
brightens for a time and we have the mild air sitting across the | :26:31. | :26:33.
south-east of the country so Saturday will be mild but again | :26:34. | :26:36.
we'll find the cloud increases into the afternoon and we find this | :26:37. | :26:40.
weather front starts to come through overnight. The couple are weather | :26:41. | :26:43.
fronts with us on Sunday, another one the middle part of the day | :26:44. | :26:47.
bringing slightly cooler air with it, so we'll find that although high | :26:48. | :26:50.
pressure is in charge of the temperatures come down a little bit. | :26:51. | :26:55.
As we know that public meeting on the future of Glenfield heart | :26:56. | :26:59.
children's heart unit is currently taking place in Leicester. Any | :27:00. | :27:07.
update? Good evening. Lots of questions being asked in there, lots | :27:08. | :27:11.
of questions about why Newcastle in the eyes of the campaign is being | :27:12. | :27:15.
treated different to Leicester, the feeling they're trying to manage the | :27:16. | :27:19.
number of cases there but aren't offering to do that with Leicester. | :27:20. | :27:23.
Feelings running very high. The meeting is going on up there in the | :27:24. | :27:27.
room behind me and we'll have more on it in the late news. Thanks very | :27:28. | :27:34.
much indeed. Another milestone in the long saiga of Glenfield | :27:35. | :27:37.
children's heart surgery. Still it goes on. I'll be back tomorrow but | :27:38. | :27:39.
he'll be back tonight. | :27:40. | :27:42. |
