And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn. | :00:12. | :00:14.
First tonight, the East Midlands has one of the highest gender | :00:15. | :00:17.
According to new research by PwC, women's wages are - on average - | :00:18. | :00:23.
The world of work has changed dramatically over the last century, | :00:24. | :00:31.
but when it comes to pay, the overall gap between men | :00:32. | :00:33.
Data collected from employers across our region by PWC found | :00:34. | :00:41.
we are the second worst region in the UK when it comes | :00:42. | :00:45.
to the different amounts men and women tend to earn. | :00:46. | :00:48.
And one of the reasons behind this is the types of job | :00:49. | :00:55.
and sectors that men and women are typically drawn to. | :00:56. | :00:58.
The research shows a high proportion of women work in lower paying | :00:59. | :01:01.
sectors such as retail and health services, while men tend to work | :01:02. | :01:03.
The average female worker here would need a 26% wage hike, | :01:04. | :01:10.
around ?6,800 a year, to be on a par with | :01:11. | :01:13.
Although on first sight it looks as though it is just | :01:14. | :01:21.
a simple job segregation, I think the issue is a lot more | :01:22. | :01:24.
complex, it gets to bigger issues in society about the role that women | :01:25. | :01:28.
A lack of flexible working is also a factor. | :01:29. | :01:34.
Sasha was only offered full-time work after having a child, | :01:35. | :01:37.
so she set up a business helping parents work in a flexible way. | :01:38. | :01:42.
A lot of employers are struggling to attract talented parents, | :01:43. | :01:45.
particularly women - mums at the moment - | :01:46. | :01:48.
so it is helping employers to open up the opportunity | :01:49. | :01:50.
to flexible working for the right person. | :01:51. | :01:52.
Even that is a step in the right direction. | :01:53. | :01:58.
Whilst it is illegal for a company to pay a man more | :01:59. | :02:01.
than a woman in the same role, this research suggests overall pay | :02:02. | :02:04.
equality could take another 24 years to achieve. | :02:05. | :02:06.
Geeta Pendse, BBC East Midlands Today. | :02:07. | :02:12.
A coroner investigating the death of Shanay Walker in Nottingham today | :02:13. | :02:15.
heard secret recordings made by the youngster's aunt. | :02:16. | :02:19.
It gives an insight into the life of the seven-year-old before | :02:20. | :02:22.
she died three years ago from a brain injury. | :02:23. | :02:24.
Her aunt and grandmother have since been jailed for cruelty. | :02:25. | :02:26.
In this child assessment session recorded after Kay-Ann Morris | :02:27. | :02:36.
was granted permanent guardianship of Shanay Walker, the two | :02:37. | :02:38.
were thought to have a positive interaction, with no | :02:39. | :02:40.
But Shanay's disruptive behaviour at school | :02:41. | :02:49.
Using her phone, Kay-Ann covertly recorded a number of meetings | :02:50. | :02:52.
she had with teachers, social workers and | :02:53. | :02:54.
In September 2013, she and Shanay were asked by her schoolteacher | :02:55. | :02:57.
to discuss her bad behaviour, during which Kay-Ann | :02:58. | :02:59.
You did wrong and you should be ashamed of yourself. | :03:00. | :03:05.
Let's see if it's going to be the last time because you've | :03:06. | :03:08.
Let's see if it's going to be the last time, right? | :03:09. | :03:12.
But the recording continued as they walked away after the meeting, | :03:13. | :03:14.
and Kay-Ann can be heard shouting and swearing at Shanay, | :03:15. | :03:17.
The inquest also heard a statement from Sarah Kieran, | :03:18. | :03:27.
She attended several meetings between Kay-Ann Morris | :03:28. | :03:31.
and Shanay's school, which continued to have | :03:32. | :03:33.
meetings about bruising on the seven-year-old. | :03:34. | :03:36.
In a secretly recorded call between them, it prompted this | :03:37. | :03:38.
It's like everything I realise, Sarah. | :03:39. | :03:42.
I said, you just imagine putting yourself in | :03:43. | :03:47.
You're coming into school, there's an incident that never happened, | :03:48. | :03:50.
but you're getting some judgmental looks and some suggestion. | :03:51. | :03:53.
Kay-Ann claimed that Shanay was attempting to self-harm | :03:54. | :03:59.
and that the bruising was also from being pushed at school. | :04:00. | :04:01.
She also denied hitting her niece with a bath brush. | :04:02. | :04:04.
Quentin Rayner, BBC East Midlands Today, | :04:05. | :04:06.

Tonight there are those who will say Claudio Ranieri has gone | :04:28. | :04:30.
Others will claim that he had lost the faith of his backroom team. | :04:31. | :04:36.
The man himself, Claudio Ranieri, says he is very, very sad | :04:37. | :04:44.
Mark Shardlow looks back now at Ranieri's 18-month reign. | :04:45. | :04:52.
A thank you card delivered to his home by a young fan. | :04:53. | :04:57.
But Claudio Ranieri had little to smile about. | :04:58. | :05:01.

But this season has seen frustration. | :05:25. | :05:32.
This weekend, Leicester could slip into the relegation zone. | :05:33. | :05:36.
The owners, who two weeks ago offered unwavering support, | :05:37. | :05:38.
last night chose Premier League survival ahead of sentiment. | :05:39. | :05:43.
I'm not ashamed to say that last night, when the news | :05:44. | :05:45.
I shed a tear for Claudio, my club and football. | :05:46. | :05:52.
Is there anything you would like to say to the fans, Claudio? | :05:53. | :05:56.

It's not looking too bad. Tomorrow is a bit wet and windy but as we go | :06:40. | :06:46.
toward Sunday, very slightly better. But compared to Storm Dorries | :06:47. | :06:49.
yesterday, we had some beautiful blue skies across the region. Thank | :06:50. | :06:52.
you to our Weather Watchers were sending in those pictures. We have | :06:53. | :06:56.
this area of low pressure coming in tomorrow and that is where we have | :06:57. | :06:59.
the wet and windy weather on the way. A brief respite on Sunday. This | :07:00. | :07:04.
is what the picture looks like this evening. Lots of rain working its | :07:05. | :07:09.
way across the region. Those tonight of four or 5 degrees. Tomorrow | :07:10. | :07:13.
morning it will be breezy throughout the day with more rain working its | :07:14. | :07:17.
way across the region. Quite cloudy tomorrow as well with highs of | :07:18. | :07:21.
around nine Celsius. As we go through toward Sunday, we will have | :07:22. | :07:26.
slightly milder temperatures and a little bit more brightness. That is | :07:27. | :07:29.
that from the Leeds team from East Midlands Today. | :07:30. | :07:30.
