And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale.

:00:12.:00:13.

First tonight, the terror attack in London.

:00:14.:00:18.

An extensive police operation's still underway after those events

:00:19.:00:20.

on Westminster Bridge and at the Palace of Westminster.

:00:21.:00:22.

Some of our MPs were close by when the deadly

:00:23.:00:25.

I was walking with lots of other MPs from Portcullis House

:00:26.:00:44.

towards the main building, the House of Commons

:00:45.:00:46.

chamber, and suddenly heard the shots ring out.

:00:47.:00:48.

You know, there was lots of yelling, people

:00:49.:00:50.

shouting to get on the floor, to go back.

:00:51.:00:52.

Yes, a very, very shocking incident and thoughts are with those

:00:53.:00:55.

People can attack this building, but this building

:00:56.:01:02.

In the end, freedom and democracy will win, and I think that is

:01:03.:01:06.

Lots of people vote for me, but lots of

:01:07.:01:14.

people don't vote for me, and that is the beauty of democracy.

:01:15.:01:17.

We will never let people like this defeat us

:01:18.:01:19.

Well, afterwards, police kept everyone

:01:20.:01:25.

Houses of Parliament while they checked credentials.

:01:26.:01:29.

One of those caught up in all of this was our

:01:30.:01:32.

political editor, Tony Roe, who joins us now.

:01:33.:01:34.

Tony, what was happening during the five hours that

:01:35.:01:37.

you were effectively trapped inside the building?

:01:38.:01:40.

We heard shouting from the entrance to Portcullis House,

:01:41.:01:46.

which is where the MPs have their offices.

:01:47.:01:48.

It is the big, new glass building and I was sitting there,

:01:49.:01:51.

There was a panic near the entrance and what

:01:52.:01:55.

sounded like somebody shouting very loudly on a megaphone.

:01:56.:01:57.

We thought there was somebody trying to get

:01:58.:01:59.

into the building at first, but then you could see people

:02:00.:02:02.

in the street running away from Westminster Bridge

:02:03.:02:06.

And people were coming into the building as well.

:02:07.:02:14.

One person said to me that he was going through security at the time,

:02:15.:02:18.

he was a visitor to Parliament and he said he was ushered through

:02:19.:02:21.

quickly before he had his checks completed.

:02:22.:02:24.

And as we were ushered in, we were told to get to the back

:02:25.:02:27.

of the building, as far away from the road as we could

:02:28.:02:30.

and at that point, police came out of the back of the

:02:31.:02:33.

The police were running into something they probably

:02:34.:02:38.

didn't know anything about and we have seen

:02:39.:02:41.

And when we were escorted from the building

:02:42.:02:48.

after nearly five hours, were taken out of a side entrance

:02:49.:02:49.

of the House of Commons and the road Those same police

night you've had your litter picker uppers out? Yes, it is a major

operation. We have to do road closures and we have three gangs

:08:45.:08:47.

working along the road to get as much of the litter up as possible.

:08:48.:08:53.

Is it a growing problem? Do you have to do it every year? Yes, and it

varies from year to year. It's better this year and we have the

message is getting through now. And also to make sure commercial weights

burn-out tea picking up litter. I give up.

:09:27.:09:27.

And that's all from me, so I'll say goodbye.

:09:28.:09:30.

But with your weather forecast now, here's Lucy.

:09:31.:09:32.

Quite heavy outbreaks of rain, but as we move into tomorrow,

:09:33.:09:38.

it does mean we will see an improving picture.

:09:39.:09:41.

After a fairly damp start, things will start to

:09:42.:09:43.

brighten up and we will see some sunny spells developing.

:09:44.:09:46.

Temperatures slightly up on today as well.

:09:47.:09:47.

Here is what is going on in the bigger picture.

:09:48.:09:50.

This secluded front has come up from the South

:09:51.:09:52.

West, pivoted around, and then it will make its way back out towards

:09:53.:09:55.

the south west as we move through the night.

:09:56.:09:58.

That means we are looking at more rain on the way as we move

:09:59.:10:01.

That band of rain has made its way over

:10:02.:10:09.

to the east and is now coming back toward the West courtesy of that

:10:10.:10:13.

There will be some clear spells through the night, and we could see

:10:14.:10:17.

one or two patches of mist and fog developing.

:10:18.:10:19.

Temperatures falling to an overnight low of four Celsius

:10:20.:10:21.

in towns and cities, slightly cooler out in the countryside.

:10:22.:10:24.

A chilly start tomorrow and a

:10:25.:10:25.

Quite quickly, that rain clears out and behind that, we will see

:10:26.:10:29.

bright intervals developing and sunny spells.

:10:30.:10:30.

Largely dry and temperatures reaching a maximum of

:10:31.:10:32.

11 Celsius, so slightly up on today and add in that North easterly

:10:33.:10:35.

Into Friday then and high-pressure mainly in charge of

:10:36.:10:40.

It does look like it will be quite settled.

:10:41.:10:44.

Some bright intervals developing and temperatures reaching

:10:45.:10:47.

That is how we stay as we move through the weekend.

:10:48.:10:54.
