Welcome to Friday's Look East. The bodies of a man at the women are

:00:15.:00:18.

discovered at a house in Suffolk. Police are treating their deaths as

:00:18.:00:21.

unexplained. New name, but the same old trains

:00:21.:00:27.

for now. Can Abellio keep them on track?

:00:27.:00:31.

Efiant and determined. The Norwich City boss puts their drubbing at

:00:31.:00:38.

Manchester City behind him. And at the smiles and tears at the

:00:38.:00:48.
:00:48.:00:50.

BBC's sports awards. I'm speechless. First tonight, a major police

:00:50.:00:53.

investigation is underway after two bodies are found at a house in

:00:53.:00:56.

Suffolk. It all started yesterday evening when the police received a

:00:56.:01:02.

report that a 31-year-old woman had failed to return home.

:01:02.:01:07.

Their inquiry moved to a house in Kesgrave just outside Ipswich. The

:01:07.:01:10.

body of a man was found in the garage. The dead woman was

:01:10.:01:13.

discovered in a bedroom. Our chief reporter Kim Riley is in Kesgrave

:01:13.:01:20.

now. The body of a man was found in the

:01:20.:01:30.
:01:30.:01:36.

garage. You can see that Walker Chase is

:01:36.:01:39.

still cordoned off tonight. The house where the two bodies were

:01:39.:01:42.

found is the one behind me, with the tent erected outside its garage.

:01:42.:01:46.

Police say a family member called them at about 20 to 9 last night,

:01:46.:01:49.

concerned that the woman had not returned to her home. This house

:01:49.:01:53.

has been rented since the summer by a man I have been told was known as

:01:53.:01:56.

Daz and who apparently worked for BT. When police called at the house

:01:56.:01:59.

last night, a light was on buy they got no answer.

:01:59.:02:01.

Forensic teams are beginning their task in the garage where the man's

:02:01.:02:04.

body was found and the bedroom of whether the to one-year-old woman

:02:04.:02:06.

lay dead. This man lives opposite the house. He told me what happened

:02:06.:02:15.

when police knocked on his door. The garage light was on. The door

:02:16.:02:19.

was closed. The police went in. They opened the garage door and I

:02:19.:02:22.

think they found a body there. Then went into the house through the

:02:22.:02:26.

back door and I think they found a body there as well. I presume a

:02:26.:02:30.

female body in the house and the male in the garage. People living

:02:30.:02:40.
:02:40.:02:40.

here are shocked by it the deaths. My daughter has only been here for

:02:40.:02:43.

less than two weeks and this has happened just round the corner. It

:02:43.:02:49.

is not something you expect. She was a bit worried this morning.

:02:49.:02:54.

is just a little bit scary. You see these people going in and out the

:02:54.:02:59.

house, you do not know what goes on behind closed doors. The police say

:02:59.:03:09.
:03:09.:03:10.

they are treating the deaths as unexplained. Obviously, it is

:03:10.:03:13.

highly upsetting for all those people living nearby. Absolutely. I

:03:13.:03:16.

can understand that people will be very concerned. I would reiterate

:03:16.:03:21.

that I do not believe that there is any ongoing risk to anybody else.

:03:21.:03:31.
:03:31.:03:31.

Police have been carrying out investigations on a car. That car

:03:31.:03:34.

has now been taken away for further investigation. Police say formal

:03:34.:03:36.

identification is expected tomorrow and, over the weekend, a Home

:03:36.:03:39.

Office pathologist will carry out post-mortems to establish exactly

:03:39.:03:49.
:03:49.:03:57.

how the pair died. That car has now been taken away for further

:03:57.:03:59.

investigation. Police say formal identification is expected tomorrow

:03:59.:04:02.

and, over the weekend, a Home Office pathologist will carry out

:04:02.:04:05.

post-mortems to establish exactly how the pair died. Davinder Singh

:04:06.:04:08.

was due to be sentenced for the attacks which happened over several

:04:09.:04:11.

years in Bedford. Our reporter Stuart Ratcliffe was in court and

:04:11.:04:14.

he's in Luton now. What do they know about this man.

:04:14.:04:17.

Davinder Singh was convicted here just a few months ago. He was a

:04:17.:04:21.

convicted of the rate of a 24-year- old woman and two grapes of an 18-

:04:21.:04:27.

year-old woman and also common assault. The attacks took place

:04:27.:04:30.

over a two year period. One took place on derelict ground, and

:04:30.:04:33.

another in an alleyway. Davinder Singh was described as a dangerous

:04:33.:04:43.

and sexual predator. We would exactly happened in court?

:04:43.:04:48.

-- what exactly happened. Davinder Singh said he wanted to

:04:48.:04:52.

speak to the judge. He protested his innocence, said he was an

:04:52.:04:55.

innocent man and badly let down by his legal team. He went on to

:04:55.:04:58.

describe himself as nothing more than a Jack the Lad. That brought

:04:58.:05:06.

gasps from the public gallery. It was at that point he took a hairpin

:05:06.:05:09.

out of his bandana and slashed his arm, drawing blood. He threatened

:05:09.:05:13.

to cut his own throat. The court then cleared whilst police dealt

:05:13.:05:22.

with the incident. Proceedings finally got under way one hour at a

:05:22.:05:26.

later but without Davinder Singh who have been taken to hospital.

:05:26.:05:29.

What happens now? The judge said she wanted to

:05:29.:05:35.

sentence him fast he was there. She wanted her sentencing remarks to be

:05:35.:05:40.

left ringing in his ears. But the people I spoke to today said this

:05:40.:05:44.

it raises some very serious questions. How was he allowed to

:05:44.:05:49.

walk across an open court without wearing handcuffs, accompanied by

:05:49.:05:55.

one alone security guard. How busy allowed to bring a sharpened here

:05:55.:05:58.

penned into open court? He will be back on Monday afternoon it to be

:05:58.:06:03.

sentenced. The Dutch company taking over some

:06:03.:06:06.

of the region's railways has admitted it will not be able to

:06:06.:06:09.

invest in new trains for at least another two years. In their first

:06:09.:06:12.

TV interview, Abellio, which won the Greater Anglia franchise in

:06:12.:06:19.

October, said new rolling stock will only be available from 2014.

:06:19.:06:24.

The trains and Holland are a cut above are as well stop modern,

:06:24.:06:29.

clean and punctual. Some are even double-decker. In a two months, a

:06:30.:06:33.

subsidiary of the Dutch state railway will take over the Anglia

:06:33.:06:37.

franchise, but we will not get trains like this. Company back will

:06:37.:06:45.

inherit the same old trains that national expense -- a National

:06:45.:06:53.

Express currently one. I have come to Leeds where Abellio has one of

:06:53.:06:59.

Northern at rail. How is it doing? They carry more passengers than

:06:59.:07:03.

when the franchise began. Overcrowding quickly became a

:07:03.:07:10.

problem. They put together innovative deals to add more

:07:10.:07:17.

carriages. This cycle. Is similar to one being planned for Chelmsford

:07:17.:07:25.

along with cleaner stations and better Customer Information.

:07:25.:07:28.

problem with a franchise is we're talking about two year time frame

:07:28.:07:33.

is a big investments will not be possible. But we will make sure

:07:33.:07:38.

that we give them a bit of an uplift in getting the passenger

:07:38.:07:48.
:07:48.:07:49.

experience a right. Abellio are -- Abellio will apply are for the 15

:07:49.:07:57.

year franchise in 2015. That bigger investment is possible with a

:07:57.:08:06.

longer franchise. So we might get a shiny new trains then, but not

:08:06.:08:09.

double-decker. And you can see more of that report

:08:09.:08:13.

by Richard Bond in the Politics Show in the East this weekend. The

:08:13.:08:15.

programme comes from Sheringham in Norfolk and will be looking forward

:08:15.:08:18.

to the rail summit in Westminster next week. That's the Politics Show,

:08:18.:08:22.

Sunday at midday on BBC 1. Still to come on Look East. The

:08:22.:08:24.

annual MAIL-strom. Why parcels and packets are taking over from

:08:24.:08:27.

Christmas cards this year. And there's a nip in the air. Alex

:08:27.:08:30.

will have the weekend weather. Yes, it has been a chilly day and

:08:30.:08:34.

we have even had our first wintry showers. I'll be back later with a

:08:34.:08:43.

full weather forecast after more Workers at the Colman's Mustard

factory in Norwich have been taking industrial action today over plans

:08:46.:08:51.

to close the final salary pension scheme. The company is now part of

:08:51.:09:01.
:09:01.:09:04.

Sounding their horns for support. Coleman's factory worker's in

:09:04.:09:09.

Norwich walked out today for the first time in their history. Their

:09:09.:09:14.

employer wants to end final salary pensions. All we want is a decent

:09:14.:09:19.

and fair pension. These people have worked for this company for years

:09:19.:09:22.

and years. They have embraced any change that this company has

:09:22.:09:25.

brought in, not always happily, but they have embraced it. They have

:09:25.:09:31.

made those changes and they feel this is one ask too much. These

:09:31.:09:36.

workers are just some of around 2000 on strike across the country.

:09:36.:09:40.

For them, taking action that soar close to Christmas has not been

:09:40.:09:48.

easy. Under this new scheme, I will lose a lot of money every year. It

:09:48.:09:52.

is just too much for me to lose from my pension. It is not an easy

:09:53.:09:58.

option, we will lose money for standing out here. But it is

:09:58.:10:02.

important to show that these are changes we simply do not agree with.

:10:02.:10:08.

The pension is something that you needed to aspire to and hopefully

:10:08.:10:13.

we will get there. But when we get there, we need to be reasonable, to

:10:13.:10:20.

have a standard of living. company says a final salary pension

schemes are not an option any more at a already made significant

11 people have appeared in court in Colchester charged with a number of

:10:36.:10:39.

drug offences. It follows a number of dawn raids across Essex

:10:39.:10:42.

yesterday. Nine men, one woman and a 16-year-old boy have been charged

:10:42.:10:45.

with supplying class A drugs. A 24- year-old woman was charged with

:10:45.:10:48.

possessing a class A drug and two other men have been released

:10:48.:10:53.

without charge. A man who posed as a qualified vet

:10:53.:10:56.

has been jailed for 20 months. 43- year-old Patrick Keniry from Great

Yarmouth pleaded guilty to a number of counts of fraud. He'd been

:10:59.:11:06.

practising under the name of a legitimate surgeon in Swindon.

Fishermen in Norfolk say up to 3,000 jobs could be lost unless the

:11:09.:11:13.

shellfish industry is protected. They say they need to fight back

:11:13.:11:17.

against foreign imports, dredging and the impact of wind farms.

:11:17.:11:20.

Yesterday, the Cromer Crab processing company said 70 staff

:11:20.:11:25.

will be made redundant in the New Year.

:11:25.:11:28.

One of Norfolk's MPs has criticised the Ministry of Defence for

:11:28.:11:30.

spending more than 1 billion on programmes to purchase armoured

:11:30.:11:33.

vehicles without buying a single one. Richard Bacon expressed dismay

:11:33.:11:36.

that no-one within the MoD had been held responsible for the failures

:11:36.:11:39.

which have meant that British troops will not have all the

:11:39.:11:46.

vehicles they need until at least 2025.

Six Bronze-Age log-boats submerged at the bottom of an ancient water

course have been discovered by archaeologists in the Fens. Swords,

:11:52.:11:55.

:11:55.:11:57.

to reflect the best-preserved example of prehistoric river life

:12:07.:12:07.

yet to be excavated. The Race Across America is billed

:12:07.:12:11.

as the toughest cycle race in the world. It's so extreme, nearly half

:12:11.:12:14.

the people who enter do not finish. But a cyclist from Essex is hoping

:12:14.:12:21.

he can make it across the finish line.

:13:03.:13:08.

You get everywhere the condition and every season of the year in the

course of the race. A blood samples are taken every five minutes,

revealing the oxygen levels reaching Chris's muscles. It is a

chance for the team up to assess the body under pressure. We are

advising him on his strategy for basing himself up. Plenty of

:13:40.:13:44.

training lies ahead, but Chris is determined he will become one of a

:13:44.:13:51.

select few to complete an extraordinary challenge.

:13:51.:13:53.

Apache attack helicopters from Wattisham in Suffolk performed a

:13:53.:13:55.

flypast over HMS Ocean as she returned home from the

:13:55.:13:58.

Mediterranean today. Four Apaches were based on Ocean off the Libyan

:13:58.:14:01.

coast, launching attacks on Colonel Gaddafi's forces. Most of the

The chairman of Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, Mike Brookes, is

:14:11.:14:15.

stepping down. He is planning to move away from the region so

:14:15.:14:17.

retires at the end of this month after five-and-a-half years. He

:14:17.:14:20.

says it has been a privilege working with the hospital's staff

:14:20.:14:22.

and volunteers. News of last night's sports awards

:14:22.:14:25.

to come. First a look ahead to this weekend's sporting action, starting

:14:25.:14:30.

with football. Here's Tom. And for Norwich in the Premier

:14:30.:14:33.

League, a home match with Newcastle. Boss Paul Lambert has called for

:14:33.:14:36.

his side to put last Saturday's heavy loss at Manchester City

:14:36.:14:42.

behind them and bounce back in the best possible way. Back to work,

:14:42.:14:45.

aiming to put a bad day in the office behind him.

:14:45.:14:48.

One week ago, Norwich was taught the harshest of lessons, a 5-1

:14:48.:14:52.

defeat to leaders Manchester City. The manager is in no mood for a

:14:52.:15:02.
:15:02.:15:05.

repeat. I do not want us having that feeling every other week. That

:15:05.:15:08.

is certainly the case. It hurts like anything when you have a heavy

:15:08.:15:15.

defeat, even to a team like City. MK Dons did it too was and it is

:15:15.:15:22.

painful. You have to bounce back as quickly as you can. It may have

:15:22.:15:28.

been a day to forget, but Steve Morrison are caught the eye it

:15:28.:15:37.

wants more. -- caught the eye once again. He has brought me into the

:15:37.:15:44.

team and into the squad and I have been given a chance. I would like

:15:44.:15:51.

to think I am approving. Hopefully I can improve even more. He will

:15:51.:16:00.

hope to exploit Newcastle injury pet a defence. A win tomorrow will

:16:00.:16:07.

serve as a timely boost after that result in Manchester.

:16:07.:16:10.

Onto the Championship, and speaking at last night's BBC East Sports

:16:10.:16:12.

Awards, Ipswich Chief Executive Simon Clegg said he is convinced

:16:12.:16:15.

Paul Jewell will turn the club's fortunes around starting at

:16:15.:16:23.

Barnsley tomorrow. Here's the table, if Town fans needed any reminding.

:16:23.:16:26.

Ipswich are fourth from bottom. Out of the relegation zone on goal

:16:26.:16:29.

difference. And tomorrow playing one of the league's form sides.

:16:29.:16:33.

Defeat would be Ipswich's eighth in a row. I understand the question

:16:33.:16:37.

you are trying to make. Eight on the bounce, in the bottom four, but

:16:37.:16:42.

I can only affect what goes on today. I can't affect what goes on

:16:42.:16:52.
:16:52.:16:52.

tomorrow until tomorrow. On Saturday, we will see. Any manager,

:16:53.:16:55.

whoever the manager is, Sir Alex, Mancini, myself, we are all the

:16:56.:16:59.

days until we get the sack or we leave. Just that some have more

:16:59.:17:03.

time than others. Three straight defeats for

:17:03.:17:08.

Colchester who play Bury in League One. John Ward though insists his

:17:08.:17:12.

team must be positive as they look to claw their way back up the table.

:17:12.:17:15.

It's first versus third in League Two with leaders Southend at

:17:15.:17:18.

Cheltenham. After the Blues' 17- game unbeaten stretch came to an

:17:18.:17:21.

end in midweek, boss Paul Sturrock is urging his players to begin a

:17:21.:17:23.

new run. Two Essex cricketers have been

:17:23.:17:26.

named in England's 16-man squad for the Test series against Pakistan in

:17:26.:17:28.

the United Arab Emirates. No surprises over Alastair Cook's

:17:29.:17:32.

inclusion. Ravi Bopara's also in there. The batsman getting the nod

:17:32.:17:41.

ahead of emerging star Jonny Bairstow.

:17:41.:17:44.

Now as always, there's coverage of your team tomorrow on your local

:17:44.:17:49.

BBC radio station. There's Norwich highlights on Match of the Day,

:17:49.:17:52.

Saturday night on BBC 1, with the Football League Show straight after.

You're watching Look East from the BBC. Coming up, a night to remember

:18:17.:18:26.

We are all busy at this time of year, but spare a thought for

:18:27.:18:30.

postal staff. They will be working flat out over the next couple of

:18:30.:18:33.

weeks as they deliver millions of Christmas cards and presents across

:18:33.:18:36.

the region. Of course, an increasing number of

:18:36.:18:39.

people do their shopping online and that means the number of parcels

:18:39.:18:49.
:18:49.:19:10.

and packages delivered in December It is the busiest time of the year.

Whilst Christmas preparations start in earnest, the Royal Mail impede

:19:15.:19:20.

about braces itself to deliver millions of parcels and cards

:19:20.:19:27.

across the East. People have chosen to do their shopping online. We are

:19:27.:19:33.

seeing many more parcels coming through our network. We have to be

:19:33.:19:37.

organised to handle them. Those of packets and parcels are putting

:19:37.:19:42.

increased pressure on the postal system. This Christmas in the east,

:19:42.:19:50.

the Royal Mail will handle 34% more parcels than the previous year. To

:19:50.:19:58.

manage that, they have employed 2000 extra staff. They have to ease

:19:58.:20:01.

the Christmas pressure and get all the parcels and letters delivered

:20:01.:20:08.

in time. There are hundreds more post vans in the streets and they

:20:08.:20:13.

have a machine that can sort through a 40,000 at letters M1 a

:20:13.:20:20.

hour. Those machines will come in handy with thousands it to write

:20:20.:20:24.

their Christmas cards at the weekend. Monday is likely to be

:20:24.:20:34.
:20:34.:20:36.

their busiest day. Very busy. We will be running 24 hours non-stop.

:20:36.:20:40.

With people sending fewer letters every year, getting Christmas

:20:40.:20:47.

deliveries sorted is more important than ever.

:20:47.:20:52.

Here in the East, we're blessed with a wealth of sporting talent.

:20:52.:20:55.

From our professional sportsmen and women to the unsung heroes who keep

:20:55.:20:58.

sport in this region alive. Last night in Bedford, some of them were

:20:58.:21:00.

honoured at the BBC East Sports Awards.

:21:00.:21:03.

Shaun Peel was at the University of Bedfordshire to find out who won

:21:03.:21:13.
:21:13.:21:13.

It was a mite of sporting heroes, unsung heroes, champions and

legends. Sports personality of the Year went to Alistair Cook who

spent a message. And what your having a great night he... Red Bull

with a tremendously talented group of players. A ferocious desire and

:21:39.:21:44.

up there and when I saw that there were four seats with my name on it,

:22:28.:22:32.

I was told it was my headmaster and someone else that was coming along.

:22:32.:22:39.

It was a massive shock. Perhaps the highlight was their award to

:22:39.:22:45.

Chrissie Wellington. I have to pinch myself every day to truly

:22:45.:22:50.

believe what I have achieved in sport. I just started as an amateur,

:22:51.:22:55.

never knowing where it would take me. Five years later, I am on top

:22:55.:23:01.

of the world. The BBC Look East, all the regional newspapers, radio

:23:01.:23:07.

Norfolk have featured me consistently and that is really

:23:07.:23:13.

important for me. With eight months to go to the Olympic Games, it was

:23:13.:23:19.

a chance to send a rallying call to the region's athletes. Perhaps some

:23:19.:23:23.

will be back to our sports awards this time next year to show off

:23:23.:23:33.

Don't forget, you can find some of the highlights of the awards last

Just log on to the Facebook home page and put BBC Look East in the

search bar. Tim Foster said I was a small --

said I was a small block in the boat, but I could -- but he is

enormous. What a great evening it was. It

:24:13.:24:19.

makes you feel so humble because so many people put in hours and hours

:24:19.:24:26.

of work for no reward. We were gutted last night because

:24:26.:24:30.

it was too windy for the barometer. We were promised it tonight.

:24:30.:24:35.

Yes, it will be on at the end of Yes, it will be on at the end of

:24:35.:24:45.
:24:45.:24:47.

It's set to be a very chilly night. Right now, we have some cooler air

:24:47.:24:50.

coming down from Greenland which has made it very cold. Plenty of

:24:50.:24:53.

sunshine through today, but also some showers and some of them have

:24:54.:24:59.

fallen as wintry showers. But for most of us, it's a dry night, cold

:24:59.:25:07.

and frosty, potentially some icy patches on the road. The winds

:25:07.:25:10.

quickly easing, and the skies clearing which will bring a

:25:10.:25:14.

widespread frost. Temperatures below freezing in many locations.

:25:15.:25:24.
:25:25.:25:25.

Potentially down to minus 3. A light westerly wind. Potentially a

:25:25.:25:35.
:25:35.:25:39.

bit more of a moderate north- westerly around the coast. It's a

:25:39.:25:42.

really cold and frosty start to tomorrow, but there will be plenty

:25:42.:25:46.

of sunshine, particularly through the morning. But temperatures will

:25:46.:25:54.

not go above 5 or 6 Celsius. It will feel really cold. The wind

:25:54.:25:58.

speed will pick up a little. More of a light to moderate south-

:25:58.:26:08.
:26:08.:26:10.

westerly. It stays dry through the afternoon and Sunday. It will tend

:26:10.:26:18.

to turn a little cloudier by evening and overnight. That may

:26:19.:26:22.

mean it will not get quite so cold tomorrow night. On Sunday, a very

:26:22.:26:25.

different sort of day. We have a front right across us bringing some

:26:25.:26:28.

outbreaks of rain. There are a number of weather systems in the

:26:28.:26:32.

Atlantic lining up to bring their wet weather in as well. It is a

:26:32.:26:35.

changeable pattern we are into. But a dry day tomorrow, if rather cold.

:26:35.:26:38.

Into Sunday, should be a dry start, but it will cloud over bringing

:26:38.:26:44.

rain. Monday, a dry day with quite a bit of sunshine, but more cloud

:26:44.:26:47.

by the end of day end of the day bringing overnight rain. On Tuesday,

:26:47.:26:50.

a mixture of sunshine and showers and pretty cool temperatures. The

:26:50.:26:53.

winds pick up on Tuesday. Really cold night for tonight. Hovering

:26:53.:26:56.

around freezing for tomorrow night. The values are just lingering above

:26:56.:26:59.
