Hello. A teenager from Cambridgeshire who

sparked an armed police operation has admitted making hundreds of

malicious 999 calls over the Christmas holidays. A court was

told she was putting the public in danger and could now face a prison

sentence. Cambridgeshire police deemed Kerry

Ann Moat's actions as a serious threat to public safety. She

pleaded guilty to making 800 silent calls, a majority between Christmas

Eve and Boxing Day. Her defence solicitor told the

court she didn't know why she had done it. The prosecution explained

how all of the 999 calls she had made were silent. When asked if she

needed assistance there was no response. Police traced the number

to Little Paxton. Further investigation traced it to Kerry

Ann Moat's address. Firearms officers were sent to her address

where her mobile phone and Sim card were seized. It was in a

Cambridgeshire police control room where the calls were answered.

Silent phone calls cannot immediately be discounted. Each had

to be investigated. It causes massive problems in terms of taking

the genuine 999 calls from members of the public who need our help.

Every few seconds as quick as we could cut the call off, she was

making further calls. The court was told Kerry Ann Moat's past included

an allegation of abuse that was never brought to prosecution. She

will be sentenced in February and was told prison could be an option.

Two off-duty police officers are still seriously ill in hospital

after they were injured with another officer in a car crash in

Bedfordshire. The crash happened on the A6 between Luton and Streatley

Two other cars were involved. A man who was arrested on suspicion of

dangerous driving has been released on police bail.

A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were being questioned in

connection with the death of a man who was found at his home near

Cambridge have been released on police bail. 76-year-old Thomas

Llewelyn was bludgeoned to death in Chittering in what the police

believe was an attempted burglary. The Prime Minister is being urged

to change the route of the Olympic torch when it goes through Essex

next year. Councillors say the organisers have snubbed one of the

most deprived parts of the country. The Olympic park at Stratford, but

just 60 miles from the stadium there is a community some say

desperately needs to share the hopes and dreams of London 2012.

And this is it, near Clacton. Officially the most deprived

neighbourhood in the country. The Olympic torch relay before the

Games will not pass through here. In a letter to David Cameron the

local council says the closest the torch comes to here is 13 miles, a

world away, it says, for the people who live here. And the council says

it is not just here. The 2012 torch relay misses out a whole district,

including Harwich and Clacton. is bizarre that it has been missed

off the list. It feels like a snob. Some believe that a visit from the

torch relay would give the place a boost. It would give people a

little bit of an uplifting. I think it would highlight the situation to

other communities, to the Government, to other groups that

could help. Lord Coe visited Essex in the summer to see where the 2012

mountain-biking will be held. The Olympics organising committee told

the BBC that the torch will get to within 10 miles of 95% of the

population. People have been flocking to see

the body of a sperm whale which was washed up on a beach in Norfolk.

It's 55 feet long and was found dead on Christmas Eve. It is rare

for sperm whales to venture into the shallow waters of the North Sea.

It probably was a natural death. There is nothing to suggest that

anything man-made caused its death. There is no sign of struggle on the

beach, no sand has been displaced. It died at sea and washed up on to

the beach. Nearly 3 million people in this

country have been diagnosed with diabetes. It's thought another

850,000 people have the condition but don't know. A two-year trial is

now underway at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to find out

if insulin pumps which feed the drug directly into the body are

more effective than daily injections.

Diabetic Tom Cave has a daily routine. Before each meal he

measures his blood sugar levels, then injects himself with the

correct dose of insulin to ensure his body is functioning normally.

For most people, the fear is, will it hurt. The answer is no. It is a

tiny needle and a small amount of insulin. Kerry takes a different

approach. She has an external pump attached to a tube inserted into

her body. She increases or reduces the insulin flow according to her

needs. I was worried about having something attached to me but you

become very good at hiding it and it means I can be active in doing

what I need to do with my family without being concerned about

carrying any paraphernalia because it is always attached to me.

Addenbrooke's Hospital they are starting a new trial to assess the

effectiveness of both methods. The pump is more expensive and some

medics want to know how patients cope with it. We know both

therapies work. Is there an advantage in starting something as

intensive as insulin pump therapy earlier, and should everyone go on

a pump, because there is a cost implication. In this financial

climate we cannot give everyone treatment if we are not sure it

will benefit everyone. 1000 patients are taking part in the

trial which will last two years. We have had shot showers across the

region this afternoon. We can see a few of those drifting in from the

north-west. Once they reach Suffolk, we have had reports of a few

rumbles of thunder. Sharp showers around through the next couple of

hours. Those will ease overnight, allowing for some clear spells. You

can see some showers around at first but by midnight and through

the early morning, plenty of clear sky across the region and patchy

cloud. With clear skies, the potential for temperatures down to

about three degrees Celsius, just low enough to give some ground

frost in sheltered spots. But we have a moderate north-westerly

nearer the coast. As we zoom out, tomorrow we can see the next

weather system approaching from the Atlantic, a warm front. We start

with bright spells in the east but the cloud thickening through the

day, bringing outbreaks of rain into western parts of the region.

Temperatures around six or seven degrees Celsius at 2pm, rising into

the evening. You can see the rain becoming more widespread through

Friday afternoon. Some heavy spells not out of the question, before

clearing around midnight. The next weather system waiting in the wings

for New Year's Eve could bring some rain late in the day. Saturday,

drier first with some rain later. A heavy as Berlin to Sunday morning,

which will clear a way and cooler weather into Monday. Blustery winds
