In Look East tonight. Queues, shortages or shut down altogether. | :00:14. | :00:17.
The run on petrol continues. Where there are supplies, things are | :00:17. | :00:20.
getting back to normal, but in many areas the wait continues. Lots of | :00:20. | :00:23.
people we have never seen before, all wanting full tanks. But they're | :00:23. | :00:26.
not getting it, they are only getting 20. | :00:26. | :00:30.
Hello from David and me. Also tonight the bomb squad moves in on | :00:30. | :00:33.
a V2 rocket, stuck in the mud since World War 2. When we realised it | :00:33. | :00:37.
was a V2 rocket, crikey. A very unique weapon used during World War | :00:37. | :00:44.
A boom in tourism. The industry is on course for a bumper season as | :00:44. | :00:47.
more of us holiday at home. I'm in training for the race of a | :00:47. | :00:57.
:00:57. | :01:01. | ||
First. Another day of queuing at the region's petrol stations. | :01:01. | :01:04.
It was not quite as hectic as yesterday, but retailers still | :01:04. | :01:09.
reported surging demand. Some hauliers in the region have also | :01:09. | :01:12.
voiced their worries about the security of their supplies. A | :01:12. | :01:14.
growing number of forecourts have run dry. Our chief reporter Kim | :01:14. | :01:18.
Riley is at an Esso station in North Norfolk. | :01:18. | :01:24.
We have come to the only service station in at the seaside resort of | :01:24. | :01:31.
Sheringham her. The honour they give, debt here at the moment is | :01:31. | :01:36.
petrol or diesel, they have been dry here for 48 hours. They are | :01:36. | :01:41.
desperately hoping that a tanker will come fairly soon. | :01:41. | :01:45.
It is a very long supply line with much of the region's fuel coming by | :01:45. | :01:49.
road from refineries in the Thames Estuary in Essex. A standard road | :01:49. | :01:54.
tanker holds over 40,000 litres of fuel. Now, in normal times, a | :01:54. | :02:03.
medium-sized petrol station might sell around 15,000 litres a day. | :02:03. | :02:06.
Amidst all the panic this week, many have seen sales nearer 30 to | :02:06. | :02:16.
:02:16. | :02:17. | ||
35,000. There simply are not enough tankers to sustain that level of | :02:17. | :02:20.
demand. So hardly surprising then that quite a number of stations | :02:20. | :02:22.
have run dry. As Richard Daniel reports. | :02:22. | :02:25.
To date, tankers were getting through. There is delivery this | :02:25. | :02:29.
morning at a store in Norwich. But scores of filling stations were not | :02:29. | :02:35.
so lucky. In Ipswich, ball these for chords were shot, having run | :02:35. | :02:45.
:02:45. | :02:46. | ||
dry after yesterday's panic buying. Once again, more queues. And | :02:46. | :02:53.
frustrated drivers. Quite difficult. I have been 25 garages. I was at | :02:54. | :03:03.
:03:04. | :03:04. | ||
the end of my tank. For this haulage company, it has been a | :03:04. | :03:14.
:03:14. | :03:15. | ||
stressful week. It is a concern of all our customers at the moment. It | :03:15. | :03:23.
has been dominating all my e-mails, people are worried about the lack | :03:23. | :03:33.
:03:33. | :03:34. | ||
of fuel. Petrol and diesel is the lifeblood of the country. Here, | :03:34. | :03:40.
only regulars were being served. The we are a small garage, so we | :03:40. | :03:50.
cannot afford larger loads. We make very little money on the fuel. | :03:50. | :03:53.
Difficult times for motorists who may have hope that today would have | :03:53. | :03:59.
seen their end of queues. This afternoon, one of the region's | :03:59. | :04:02.
senior Conservative MPs said he thought the Government had handled | :04:02. | :04:06.
the situation badly. There should not have been any move to encourage | :04:06. | :04:15.
people to buy more than they normally buy without consulting the | :04:15. | :04:20.
industry first. The extraordinary signs all over an Easter strike | :04:20. | :04:28.
that never was. Andrew Lawrence is the regional | :04:28. | :04:30.
chairman of RMI Petrol which represents independent stations. He | :04:30. | :04:35.
also owns this one at Sheringham. His relief in sight? We hope so. | :04:35. | :04:42.
The tanker we have been promised should be here about 8:30pm. We | :04:42. | :04:46.
should be up and running certainly by tomorrow morning. It has been | :04:46. | :04:50.
tougher areas like this would not many petrol stations around. That | :04:50. | :04:59.
is the trouble. We are the all recite in Sheringham -- we are the | :04:59. | :05:09.
:05:09. | :05:10. | ||
only place in Sheringham. We used to have a lot of village garages, | :05:10. | :05:14.
but now we are just down to the main centres and that is adding to | :05:14. | :05:17.
the problems we are having the moment. The government has been | :05:17. | :05:24.
accused of making a hash of handling the best. I am beginning | :05:24. | :05:31.
to think that is the case. But it is getting, as more garages get | :05:31. | :05:39.
fuel. Other Rt are they now by the end of the weekend, we will get | :05:39. | :05:45.
back to some normality of. strike before Easter, they have to | :05:45. | :05:49.
give it seven days it looked as, that is quite a long way off. But | :05:49. | :05:55.
people will still get a nasty feeling 20 see the petrol warning | :05:55. | :05:58.
light at the I do not know were the next station is. I think that is | :05:58. | :06:02.
right. I think people have to stick to their normal routine. They know | :06:02. | :06:07.
how far they can go in their car, stick to the normal pattern of | :06:07. | :06:17.
:06:17. | :06:20. | ||
fiddling and we should be OK. you very much. -- pattern of | :06:20. | :06:30.
:06:30. | :06:35. | ||
filling. As hard times bite, fewer of us are going abroad for holidays, | :06:35. | :06:37.
so instead we're staying closer to home. | :06:37. | :06:41.
Tourism is worth 6 billion a year in the East and is our biggest | :06:41. | :06:43.
employer, providing 200,000 jobs. So far this year, attractions are | :06:43. | :06:46.
already seeing growth of between 5 and 8 per cent. Here's our business | :06:46. | :06:51.
correspondent Richard Bond. They say a week of sunshine brings | :06:51. | :06:57.
him extract 80 million in revenue for the region's tourist industry. | :06:57. | :07:01.
Voting forms have shared a Matt bound to. But there is an | :07:01. | :07:06.
underlying trend as well. It is called the staycation, stay at home | :07:06. | :07:11.
tourism. Attractions in the east are already seeing a strong growth | :07:11. | :07:17.
this year. This park is on course for 5% more visitors this year. | :07:17. | :07:23.
lot of them are pleased to stay in England. The price of the euro is a | :07:23. | :07:29.
very big reason for that. And they are beginning to laugh Britain, | :07:29. | :07:35.
particularly the east of England. Hoseasons has seen a great increase | :07:35. | :07:45.
:07:45. | :07:47. | ||
in Lake bookings. This couple Arran join a break. There are so many | :07:47. | :07:51.
beautiful places in the country to go. People ought to explore it a | :07:51. | :08:01.
:08:01. | :08:01. | ||
little bit more. People take different holidays and a year. They | :08:01. | :08:06.
have to look harder for their value. The UK offers great value for | :08:06. | :08:15.
holidays. According to Hoseasons, overall demand for East Anglia | :08:16. | :08:21.
holidays is up by one 5th on last year. While it UK attractions | :08:21. | :08:30.
prospers, demand for foreign holidays is in decline. It seems | :08:30. | :08:34.
that in these hard times, people are returning to places they know | :08:34. | :08:39.
and trust, often resorts are they were familiar with as children. The | :08:39. | :08:47.
omens for the summer season are good. | :08:47. | :08:51.
Coming up later in the programme - the V2 rocket stuck in the mud for | :08:51. | :08:53.
68 years. And Alex is preparing for a once in | :08:53. | :08:57.
a lifetime chance to run in the new Olympic Stadium. | :08:57. | :09:02.
Yes, I'm at Milton Keynes and dropping to some of their runners | :09:02. | :09:06.
are taking part with me tomorrow. I will also have your full weather | :09:06. | :09:16.
:09:16. | :09:17. | ||
Over half a million pounds' worth of stolen metals have been seized | :09:17. | :09:21.
in a special joint police operation at ports in the region. The six- | :09:21. | :09:23.
week project is the latest initiative in the crackdown on | :09:23. | :09:33.
:09:33. | :09:34. | ||
A container load of scrap-metal, it is about to be inspected by the | :09:34. | :09:40.
police and border force. Not just about cars as well. Half a million | :09:40. | :09:46.
pounds a whether of vehicles, metals, caravans. They will be able | :09:46. | :09:51.
to feed that into the National Intelligence picture and try to | :09:51. | :09:55.
identify crime groups who are working nationally and | :09:55. | :09:59.
internationally. The police say they have had some concerns about | :09:59. | :10:05.
the containers they have open today. They are probably perfectly | :10:05. | :10:14.
legitimate, but going through all the scrum battle -- scrap metal is | :10:14. | :10:21.
a big task. Most of immense in cash bias-cut dealers have now been | :10:21. | :10:30.
outlined. This is a device to tell when the tables are being cut saw | :10:30. | :10:39.
the police can be on the site a minute. It will not put everybody | :10:39. | :10:42.
off at stealing metal. But there is a clear message of that if you do | :10:42. | :10:47.
plan this activity, we are watching out for that and we are equipped to | :10:47. | :10:54.
detect and follow this through to prosecution. Police say they hope | :10:54. | :11:01.
to run more inspections like this in the future. | :11:01. | :11:05.
A council in Suffolk and one in Essex are to each get 100,000 of | :11:05. | :11:08.
Government money to help bring empty shops back into use and new | :11:08. | :11:10.
businesses set up. Ipswich Borough and Uttlesford District councils, | :11:10. | :11:13.
which includes the towns of Saffron Walden and Dunmow, are among 100 | :11:13. | :11:17.
local authorities across England to share 10 million. | :11:17. | :11:19.
A possible merger between Cambridgeshire and Suffolk fire | :11:19. | :11:24.
services has moved a step closer today. At a meeting this afternoon, | :11:24. | :11:26.
Cambridgeshire Fire Authority voted to go ahead with a feasibility | :11:26. | :11:30.
study. That will be published in May. The county's deputy chief fire | :11:30. | :11:33.
officer said it would only take place if it would save money and | :11:33. | :11:42.
not put public safety at risk. Work has begun today to improve | :11:42. | :11:44.
rail links between Ipswich and Lowestoft. A passing loop is being | :11:44. | :11:47.
constructed enabling hourly services to run between the towns. | :11:47. | :11:50.
The single track between Halesworth and Oulton Broad means trains | :11:50. | :11:55.
cannot pass each other for more than 16 miles. | :11:55. | :11:58.
It has taken nearly four years of intensive training for two people | :11:58. | :12:02.
from Norfolk to turn their hobby into Olympic selection. They will | :12:02. | :12:05.
not be taking part as athletes, but as judges in the badminton. And | :12:05. | :12:08.
they only started training after it was announced London would host the | :12:08. | :12:18.
:12:18. | :12:25. | ||
A steady hand and a keen eye. That is what is needed. Their hobby of | :12:25. | :12:29.
playing badminton has put them a place at the Olympic Games as line | :12:29. | :12:38.
judges. Like the rest of England, I was watching the announcement and I | :12:38. | :12:44.
thought I wanted to be involved in some way. The best players and the | :12:44. | :12:54.

World War battle it out in London. Suzanne is a pig farm. She will go | :12:58. | :13:08.
:13:08. | :13:09. | ||
on it to make... David Laws that there is no room for error. We know | :13:09. | :13:15.
some of the players and their games, we know what we are expecting in | :13:15. | :13:20.
terms of ability. The difference with the Olympics will be the whole | :13:20. | :13:30.
:13:30. | :13:30. | ||
atmosphere. They will also be part of the opening ceremony in July. | :13:30. | :13:36.
Now let's a look at the rest of the sport with Phil. | :13:36. | :13:39.
This is what the Premiership table looked like the last time Norwich | :13:39. | :13:41.
City travelled to Fulham. The Canaries just outside the drop zone, | :13:41. | :13:44.
knowing 3 points would save them from relegation. Norwich are back | :13:44. | :13:47.
at Craven Cottage tomorrow for the first time since that day. So let's | :13:47. | :13:55.
take a little trip down memory lane. For Norwich City fans, the last day | :13:55. | :13:59.
of the 2005 season will live long in the memory for the wrong reasons. | :13:59. | :14:03.
We were confident that the Canaries could beat Fulham and avoid | :14:03. | :14:10.
relegation from the Premiership. ever you needed a clean sheet, this | :14:10. | :14:17.
is the game. Yes, we are coming into it at the right time. I would | :14:17. | :14:22.
rather be in our camp than in any other. But it did not go to plan. A | :14:22. | :14:32.
:14:32. | :14:33. | ||
clear she could not go further away. Fulham it put six past their -- | :14:33. | :14:39.
past at Norwich. Devastating. Everyone was desperate to do it for | :14:39. | :14:49.
:14:49. | :14:49. | ||
the fans and the club. I thought we could scrape by, just so | :14:49. | :14:59.
:14:59. | :15:10. | ||
While Norwich continued to thrive back in the Premier League, the | :15:10. | :15:15.
boss is not reflecting on years gone by. The lads have to keep | :15:15. | :15:20.
doing what there doing and if we take a huge following, as we always | :15:20. | :15:29.
do, I will not go back six years of my life to figure out what happened | :15:29. | :15:35.
there. Leaving Craven Cottage are with the three boys on Saturday | :15:35. | :15:39.
will help. In the Championship, Ipswich Town | :15:39. | :15:42.
host Barnsley at Portman Road. The club are urging fans to get there | :15:42. | :15:44.
early as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their League | :15:44. | :15:47.
Championship success in 1962. The club have also announced today that | :15:47. | :15:50.
they are applying for category 2 status of the new academy structure. | :15:50. | :15:53.
Category 2 requires an additional level of investment over and above | :15:53. | :15:59.
what we're making at the moment. But category one in our view is | :15:59. | :16:04.
beyond our financial means at this moment in time. | :16:04. | :16:07.
In League One, Colchester will need to bounce back from their 3-1 | :16:07. | :16:12.
defeat at Walsall. The U's are on their travels again this weekend at | :16:12. | :16:14.
relegation threatened Exeter. Manager John Ward said they must | :16:14. | :16:24.
find their cutting edge. This is what the League Two table | :16:24. | :16:26.
looks like going into the weekend's fixtures. Southend United are out | :16:26. | :16:30.
of the automatic promotion spots for the time being. They go up | :16:30. | :16:32.
against Cheltenham at Roots Hall tonight. A win would put them | :16:32. | :16:40.
within a point of third. A bit of cricket news for you. | :16:40. | :16:43.
Essex County Cricket Club has applied for the right to become a | :16:43. | :16:46.
tenant of the Olympic Stadium after this summer's games. The club has | :16:46. | :16:50.
confirmed it has put in a joint bid with the University of East London | :16:50. | :16:59.
to use space in the after London 2012. They say they are excited, | :16:59. | :17:03.
but they cannot tell us any more at this point. | :17:03. | :17:06.
That's it for now but, of course, there's more sports news on the BBC | :17:06. | :17:10.
website. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/sport. You'll find previews to the | :17:10. | :17:20.
:17:20. | :17:23. | ||
weekend's football matches as well as manager reaction after the games. | :17:23. | :17:27.
You're watching Look East from the BBC. Still to come, the V2 rocket | :17:27. | :17:35.
that no-one thought to mention to the bomb squad. | :17:35. | :17:38.
The Olympic Games may be months away, but tomorrow, 5,000 people | :17:38. | :17:41.
from across the country will be the first to run around the Olympic | :17:41. | :17:44.
track. The Olympic Park 5-mile run is organised by the National | :17:44. | :17:48.
Lottery. Dozens of people from our region applied and won the chance | :17:48. | :17:51.
to take part. Running with them tomorrow will be our very own Alex | :17:51. | :17:58.
Dolan. Yes, I am here in Milton Keynes of | :17:58. | :18:04.
doing some gentle training before tomorrow's one. I can't believe I | :18:04. | :18:10.
am going to cross their Olympic finish line. Lots of people across | :18:10. | :18:20.
:18:20. | :18:23. | ||
the region are taking part tomorrow. Tony Robinson from Norwich is a | :18:23. | :18:25.
personal trainer. Which is quite handy because he's been giving me | :18:26. | :18:30.
some tips. You want to make a hole in the ground with that back heel. | :18:31. | :18:40.
:18:41. | :18:46. | ||
Enjoy it. It is a once-in-a- It is so exciting be back on a | :18:46. | :18:56.

running track. This is quite hard It is a once-in-a-lifetime | :19:00. | :19:05.
opportunity. I want to see the sights, I want to see the velodrome. | :19:05. | :19:12.
We will be the first athletes to cross a line before Usain Bolt | :19:12. | :19:22.
:19:22. | :19:26. | ||
I think we can safely say that he is going to be across the finishing | :19:26. | :19:30.
line before me. Another person who will be across of finishing line | :19:30. | :19:38.
tomorrow is Trevor. Didn't you break your ankle? What are you | :19:38. | :19:44.
doing running? I did, 10 years ago I broke my ankle. What made you get | :19:44. | :19:54.
:19:54. | :19:58. | ||
into running a do that? -- after that? I was trying to build up my | :19:58. | :20:05.
ankle again and I went in for a one and I loved it. How would it feel | :20:05. | :20:09.
running in the Olympic Stadium? cannot believe it, it is going to | :20:09. | :20:16.
be terrific, running around the Olympic Stadium! Another person | :20:16. | :20:24.
joining us is Gale Ms. How are you feeling? I cannot wait. Knowing | :20:24. | :20:28.
that I will be on the track before most of those athletes is wonderful. | :20:28. | :20:34.
How much trick Daddy been putting him? I am not as fit as I used to | :20:34. | :20:39.
be in my Badminton days. But I do lots of different exercise. I will | :20:39. | :20:45.
not be breaking any world records. I am so excited about it. That is | :20:45. | :20:50.
all from us here. I will be back later on in the programme with the | :20:50. | :20:56.
weather forecast. This time tomorrow, we will be among the | :20:56. | :21:01.
first to cross the Olympic finishing line. | :21:01. | :21:08.
Fantastic. Next, the story of the German V2 | :21:08. | :21:11.
rocket which remains stuck in mudflats in Harwich. A bomb | :21:11. | :21:14.
disposal team has been there all day trying to work out how | :21:14. | :21:16.
dangerous it could be. The V2 came down in 1944. | :21:16. | :21:20.
Locals say they have known about it for years. But what's less clear is | :21:20. | :21:22.
whether the rocket's warhead, packed with explosive, is still | :21:22. | :21:29.
attached. Why did the bomb disposal team | :21:29. | :21:34.
commented time? It started with at an innocuous question at a meeting | :21:34. | :21:41.
of harbour users this week about obstructions to navigation. The | :21:41. | :21:51.
replied said there was a V2 rocket. We received a call and we were a | :21:51. | :21:55.
little sceptical. But once we got on site, we confirmed it was a V2 | :21:55. | :22:03.
rocket. Germany began using them at in September 1944, they were loaded | :22:03. | :22:06.
with a ton of explosives and Hitler thought they would be the decisive | :22:06. | :22:11.
weapon in the war. This website records are virtually every one of | :22:11. | :22:21.
:22:21. | :22:21. | ||
the rockets that was fired. This records an entry for a V2 rocket | :22:22. | :22:31.
:22:32. | :22:36. | ||
that exploded above Harwich. This man is 82 now, but he was 15 when | :22:36. | :22:39.
he remembers it exploding and crashing down on to the mud flats. | :22:39. | :22:43.
He actually went out with a policeman to draw a sketch of what | :22:43. | :22:46.
it looked like. I asked him if at the time he was worried about | :22:46. | :22:49.
safety. Not really. We had a fatalistic attitude. We were quite | :22:49. | :22:55.
used to doodlebugs and things like that. We thought it was a relaxed | :22:55. | :23:05.
:23:05. | :23:10. | ||
I was told that some people used to tie the boats up against it. | :23:10. | :23:13.
would not do that as a matter of course in case you damaged the | :23:13. | :23:19.
board. The next step will be to discover whether that power for | :23:19. | :23:28.
warhead is attached to the rocket That's the last thing you want, a | :23:28. | :23:31.
hose it down the website. I love the fact that the locals have known | :23:31. | :23:36.
about it for years. Nobody is making a fuss. | :23:36. | :23:46.
:23:46. | :23:56. | ||
You were in your wet suit earlier? It is a lovely evening here ml | :23:56. | :23:59.
tickings. Bet is just started to get a little bit chilly. If we | :23:59. | :24:03.
start with the pressure chart for tonight's forecast, the high | :24:04. | :24:09.
pressure that has dominated our whether has moved to West. It is | :24:09. | :24:13.
over the Atlantic at the moment that it is moving further west over | :24:13. | :24:18.
the next couple of days. It will allow a fund to move down from the | :24:18. | :24:23.
North Sea bringing it then it cooler weather. Tonight, we have | :24:23. | :24:29.
got clear skies across much of the region. Through the course of that | :24:29. | :24:35.
night, it will tend to turn cloudy. By the end of that night, we are | :24:35. | :24:42.
looking at fairly cloudy conditions. We should stay clear of our ground | :24:42. | :24:52.
:24:52. | :24:53. | ||
frost tonight however. A high pressure moves further west, and | :24:53. | :24:58.
you will see that cold front. It is not especially active saw it will | :24:58. | :25:05.
not produce any rain for us in the east. But it will introduce much | :25:05. | :25:10.
cooler air behind it. You will not as quite a different tomorrow. | :25:10. | :25:14.
Tomorrow will be much cloudier through the day, possibly some | :25:14. | :25:22.
brighter spells in the north of the region. Quite a difference in | :25:22. | :25:29.
temperature. I think it will feel quite called. But ideal conditions | :25:29. | :25:33.
for running tomorrow. By the end of the day, it looks as if the cloud | :25:33. | :25:43.
:25:43. | :25:44. | ||
will thin and break and we might see some evening sunshine. There | :25:44. | :25:47.
might be an odd spot of rain or drizzle, but it will not allowed | :25:47. | :25:52.
too much. On a Sunday and Monday, we will see increasing amounts of | :25:52. | :26:02.
:26:02. | :26:06. | ||
sunshine. But there will be more cloud around. But there is some | :26:06. | :26:12.
rate for Tuesday and Wednesday. Quite a bit cooler as well. Another | :26:12. | :26:22.
:26:22. | :26:23. | ||
cold front bringing us the chance of some showery weather. We could | :26:23. | :26:28.
have some temperatures below freezing. Certainly assured him | :26:28. | :26:32.
weather patterns. We have been spoiled for weather for March, but | :26:32. | :26:42.
