In Look East tonight, still running for England. Lord Coe makes a run

:00:08.:00:11.

for it as the Olympics bandwagon rolls into this region.

:00:11.:00:19.

Hello from Susie and me. Also tonight... Exactly a week after a

:00:19.:00:21.

multi-million pound raid on this Cambridge museum, police stage an

:00:21.:00:25.

operation to find more clues. It is Paris to London via

:00:25.:00:30.

Peterborough on two wheels. Iron Woman Chrissey makes it look easy.

:00:30.:00:34.

And if you are out and about this weekend, will you be needing one of

:00:34.:00:44.
:00:44.:00:49.

Hello. The Look East region got a taste of things to come today. The

:00:49.:00:53.

Olympics bandwagon rolled into town for the first time. But it was just

:00:53.:00:57.

a dress rehearsal. The torch relay convoy set off from

:00:57.:01:01.

Leicester at breakfast time this morning. It moved village by

:01:01.:01:04.

village until it reached Peterborough. The torch itself was

:01:04.:01:07.

carried by student volunteers. The whole thing was designed to help

:01:07.:01:10.

the organisers get ready for the real thing. Shaun Peel is in

:01:11.:01:20.

Peterborough now. I am in the heart of Peterborough,

:01:20.:01:24.

where the torch will end up on July the. There was a rehearsal between

:01:24.:01:33.

Leicester and Peterborough. -- 3rd July. It would help look at how you

:01:33.:01:40.

people will deal with challenges. 12 hours a day in the light of the

:01:40.:01:44.

torture started with jazzman just after 7 O Clock and will then

:01:44.:01:54.
:01:54.:01:55.

finish in Peterborough. -- the life of the torch. Lord Coe had to leg

:01:55.:02:02.

it because of some problems. I know my local knowledge so well, because

:02:02.:02:09.

I have ran around his campus, just taking a short cut. There was a

:02:09.:02:14.

mixture of whether testing an air of the man plotting the route

:02:14.:02:21.

through this region. It is a testing challenge. Peterborough

:02:21.:02:26.

council have worked hard for us, looking at a traffic management, so

:02:26.:02:32.

it has been a real partnership and will hopefully be successful.

:02:32.:02:39.

travelled 80 miles to Peterborough today. In Ipswich, we have the

:02:39.:02:43.

flame up travelling by boat, an exchange from a speedboat on to a

:02:44.:02:50.

yacht, which will be important. And we have it travelling on a punt in

:02:50.:02:56.

Cambridge, so seeing how the flame travels on alternative methods of

:02:56.:03:03.

transport, that is important and good learning. Lord Coe getting

:03:03.:03:08.

caught in a road block aside, it left in one piece, but arrived in

:03:08.:03:16.

one piece. The torch is on its way to

:03:16.:03:22.

Peterborough, wending its way through the streets of this city.

:03:22.:03:27.

These are the first pictures when it first arrived in this region. It

:03:27.:03:36.

then got on a train. It went from Wandsworth station to Peterborough.

:03:36.:03:41.

On the platform, it made its way from Peterborough and should be

:03:41.:03:46.

with us in half-an-hour. With me is Annette Joyce, one of the

:03:46.:03:53.

organisers. You must be very excited? It has been wonderful, and

:03:53.:03:58.

letting us test procedures. We have learned how to do this by the best

:03:58.:04:06.

way possible. And from you, I lot to learn as well? Absolutely, a

:04:07.:04:10.

one-off opportunity to welcome everyone to Peterborough and see

:04:11.:04:17.

how beautiful Peterborough really is. And an opportunity to put

:04:17.:04:23.

Peterborough on the map, which you are grasping. Absolutely, which is

:04:23.:04:29.

why we are keen to have them. you very much. It will be in

:04:29.:04:34.

Peterborough for real on July the third. It will be in Norwich and

:04:34.:04:41.

Ipswich afterwards. Then Cambridge, Luton, then leaving the region

:04:41.:04:46.

through Milton Keynes and we will cover that all the way.

:04:46.:04:50.

Thank you very much. There were some sound problems with that

:04:50.:04:55.

report. We apologise. Police officers are tonight

:04:56.:04:58.

stationed outside a museum in Cambridge, exactly one week after

:04:58.:05:00.

raiders broke in and stole art treasures worth millions. The

:05:01.:05:04.

police are hoping to speak to people who were in the area at the

:05:04.:05:07.

time of the theft. Alex Dunlop sent has this report just a short while

:05:08.:05:09.

ago. Exactly one week ago this evening

:05:09.:05:15.

at 7:30pm, it is not a gang of up to four people broke into this

:05:15.:05:19.

world-famous museum, stealing a number of Chinese jade pieces worth

:05:19.:05:26.

millions. One piece was a sculpture poll above all, thought to be worth

:05:26.:05:31.

1 million alone, suggesting the thieves knew what they were looking

:05:32.:05:39.

for. -- a sculpture of above the law. They were only there for a few

:05:39.:05:46.

minutes before escaping. We have many officers on this since it took

:05:46.:05:51.

place and it is a priority, not least because of the value of the

:05:51.:05:57.

property stolen and its complexity. Roger is an art historian and runs

:05:57.:06:04.

a gallery in London. How significant is this loss? It is a

:06:05.:06:10.

significant and tragic loss. One of them is a very significant piece

:06:10.:06:14.

and we hope it is recovered soon. Would these have been stolen to

:06:14.:06:21.

order? There is always that possibility, but that may be

:06:21.:06:25.

speculation. This saleable value is not great in this sense it will

:06:25.:06:30.

always be known and published and could not be resold on the Open

:06:30.:06:37.

market. I know that Lord Nelson memorabilia was also stolen from a

:06:37.:06:44.

recent museum. R our Museum has a soft target? Security in museums

:06:44.:06:51.

always needs checking. -- our museums in this region as soft

:06:51.:06:56.

target? I do not think the unnecessarily as soft target, I

:06:56.:07:02.

think this is just the increase in value of Chinese art.

:07:02.:07:12.
:07:12.:07:16.

Police want anyone who may have Lots more to come in Look East,

:07:16.:07:19.

including the Iron Woman getting ready to run the London Marathon.

photos. And after some heavy showers, there

:07:27.:07:37.
:07:37.:07:37.

is more on the way. Full details coming up later.

:07:37.:07:40.

An independent prep school in Essex will be putting on extra lessons

:07:40.:07:43.

during the summer holidays as a direct response to changes in the

:07:43.:07:47.

11 plus exam. At stake, a much sought-after place in a grammar

:07:47.:07:50.

school. But a change in the law means they will be held two months

:07:50.:07:57.

earlier than expected. The hopefuls at St Cedd's in

:07:57.:08:01.

Chelmsford. In September, they will sit the exams. Two months earlier

:08:01.:08:04.

than the year before. 60% have signed up for a week of extra

:08:10.:08:14.

quality teaching and support, which is different to tutoring in small

:08:24.:08:25.

groups, were you look at it trying to fill gaps. This will be the most

:08:25.:08:33.

fierce and faced. 6785 applications to 12 schools up and with much more

:08:33.:08:40.

limited places. That equals fierce competition. I acknowledge and

:08:40.:08:45.

except parents want the best for children, but must reflect on what

:08:45.:08:49.

that is and is the right thing being done by putting children and

:08:49.:08:53.

the stresses and strains, putting them through examinations so young?

:08:53.:08:56.

The Consortium for Selective Schools in Essex is in charge of

:08:56.:08:59.

the tests. It has emphasised that the summer holiday is an important

:08:59.:09:02.

time for children to rest. But those on the pick-up run say the

:09:02.:09:08.

pressure is bearable. The children work very hard and it is a balance.

:09:08.:09:13.

I think, as long as they are working hard, but also need to the

:09:13.:09:17.

children and we need to keep it in perspective. Parents face leading

:09:17.:09:20.

their children to the best future possible without ruining their

:09:20.:09:25.

present. A stretch of the M11 in Essex has

:09:25.:09:28.

been closed this afternoon after an accident in which a lorry shed its

:09:28.:09:31.

load of baked beans. The southbound carriageway was closed between

:09:31.:09:37.

junctions 7 and 6. A car hit the central reservation and the lorry

:09:37.:09:40.

jack-knifed, spilling its load across all three lanes. One person

:09:40.:09:43.

was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The road has just

:09:43.:09:50.

reopened. A reward of 10,000 was offered

:09:50.:09:53.

today to help find raiders who smashed their way into

:09:53.:09:55.

Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. The ram-raiders made off with a

:09:56.:09:58.

cash machine. Caught on CCTV, the thieves reverse

:09:58.:10:02.

through a glass door. Moments before this picture is taken, a

:10:02.:10:06.

cleaner polishing the floor has to dive out the way. The ATM machine

:10:06.:10:11.

is pulled off the wall. The ram- raiders steal it and drive off in

:10:11.:10:17.

another stolen car. This is the entrance to the treatment centre

:10:17.:10:22.

Andrew Pearson well underway. These double doors were smashed and then

:10:22.:10:28.

that thieves made off in a stolen BMW. -- repairs and well underway.

:10:28.:10:30.

Whist the damage is still being assessed at Addenbrooke's, the

:10:30.:10:34.

company that owns the cash machine has now put up a reward to try and

:10:34.:10:37.

catch them. We hope it will prompt somebody who could no something and

:10:37.:10:40.

this may be reluctant to come forward, perhaps 10,000 will

:10:40.:10:44.

encourage them to come forward. This could have really injured

:10:44.:10:48.

someone and we want to catch these people. Part of the cash machine

:10:48.:10:51.

has been found in Bedfordshire. Police cannot reveal the exact

:10:51.:10:55.

amount the ram raiders took. But they say it is a considerable sum

:10:55.:10:58.

of money. They are appealing for anyone with any information to

:10:58.:11:02.

contact them. Let's look ahead to the weekend

:11:02.:11:07.

sport now. Here's Phil Daley. Football on the way very shortly.

:11:07.:11:10.

But just over an hour ago, the latest athlete from our patch

:11:10.:11:16.

qualified for the London Olympics. Lowestoft boxer, Anthony Ogogo,

:11:16.:11:19.

successfully sealed his spot in Team GB with a win in the

:11:19.:11:29.
:11:29.:11:32.

It has been an interesting week in the life of Norwich City. On

:11:32.:11:35.

Wednesday, the Canaries launched their new kit. A fan leaked details.

:11:35.:11:39.

The police were called in. The ensuing row became known as kit

:11:39.:11:42.

gate. Last night, the club apologised. And if all that was not

:11:42.:11:44.

enough, chief executive David McNally is running the London

:11:44.:11:47.

Marathon on Sunday. If Norwich City were hoping kit

:11:47.:11:50.

gate might go away quickly, it hasn't yet. This morning, the story

:11:50.:11:55.

was still being tweeted around the world. The marketing men had it all

:11:55.:12:03.

planned. A new kit and a chirpy video with the catchy tag line

:12:03.:12:09.

"Pass It On". That is what City fan Chris Brown did. He passed it

:12:09.:12:13.

online. But he did it before the official launch. The club were less

:12:13.:12:20.

than chuffed and called in the police. City director, Stephen Fry,

:12:21.:12:25.

said on Twitter it was a storm in teacup. He issued an apology on its

:12:25.:12:31.

website. On the pitch, the Canaries will hoping to put last weekend's

:12:31.:12:38.

6-1 defeat behind them at Blackburn tomorrow. On Sunday, the club's

:12:38.:12:41.

chief executive, David McNally, will join the thousands running the

:12:41.:12:43.

London Marathon and raising millions for good causes. You'd

:12:43.:12:46.

think he might get to use Carrow Road for training. But apparently

:12:46.:12:53.

not. I am not allowed. I do not think the grounds will let me near

:12:53.:12:57.

a wonderful pitch. -- the groundsman. He will not let the

:12:57.:13:02.

Chief Executive on the pitch. I am lucky to have some great training

:13:02.:13:06.

routes in the city centre, either in the city centre or the

:13:06.:13:09.

countryside. The chief executive is raising money for the clubs'

:13:09.:13:13.

Community Sport Foundation. community or on the football club,

:13:13.:13:18.

so we are working together to try and raise money, particularly for

:13:18.:13:22.

the disabled and disadvantaged through this appeal, so every penny

:13:22.:13:26.

raised will help the good people of Norfolk. David McNally is part of

:13:26.:13:31.

Norwich City team running the marathon. Together, they are hoping

:13:31.:13:36.

to raise 50,000 to help people like Jamie. That puts kit gate into

:13:36.:13:46.
:13:46.:13:46.

some sort of perspective. Contract news from Ipswich Town and

:13:46.:13:51.

bad news for this fellow man who has been released. Tommy Smith has

:13:51.:14:00.

been offered a new deal. And some other deals are on going. You get

:14:00.:14:08.

to 26 and you are getting married, so some neat need to move on. -- so

:14:08.:14:14.

some people may need to move on. We hope to have a fighting chance of

:14:14.:14:21.

signing Grant. Colchester United and South bend

:14:21.:14:30.

both in action this weekend. -- Southend. Barnet are just outside

:14:30.:14:35.

the relegation zone, so plenty still to play poor.

:14:35.:14:40.

Southend's home form has been Topsy Turvey. But there has been

:14:40.:14:48.

improvement late late. A win against Wimbledon latently -- week

:14:48.:14:54.

late, and other successes have helped, but play-off is looking

:14:54.:14:59.

likely. There are tensions looking to next

:14:59.:15:06.

season. 12 players out of contract at the end of this campaign. On the

:15:06.:15:10.

field, despite a valuable point against Sheffield Wednesday, there

:15:10.:15:17.

was a failure to win during the last 10 outings.

:15:17.:15:20.

And preparations for the World Championships in Sheffield and

:15:20.:15:30.
:15:30.:15:42.

The Education Secretary, Michael Gove, has been in the region today.

:15:42.:15:45.

The latest big name politician to come here campaigning for the local

:15:45.:15:49.

elections. Polling day is just two weeks away. Not every council in

:15:49.:15:53.

the region is holding an election this year. But those that are could

:15:53.:15:56.

deliver some very interesting results. Here is Political

:15:56.:16:05.

Yes, voting taking place in just 19 councils in the East. Here they are.

:16:05.:16:07.

Cambridge, which is controlled by the Liberal-Democrats. The Labour

:16:07.:16:11.

authorities of Ipswich and Stevenage. Norwich, Colchester and

:16:11.:16:16.

Milton Keynes. All of them are in no overall control. And all these

:16:16.:16:18.

other councils are run by the Conservatives. Not surprisingly,

:16:18.:16:23.

the Tories are defending the largest number of seats. 182. That

:16:23.:16:33.

is twice the number being contested by the other parties. And with an

:16:33.:16:35.

opinion poll today putting the Conservatives 13% behind Labour, it

:16:35.:16:44.

is the Tories who have the most to The Conservatives are doing a lot

:16:44.:16:49.

of number crunching, knowing they could do badly in two weeks and

:16:49.:16:53.

want to draw attention to what they believe are their party's

:16:53.:16:58.

achievements. That is why the Education Secretary was at this

:16:58.:17:04.

academy in Harlow today, made famous by a Channel 4 programme. If

:17:04.:17:10.

this is about the Government's record, Michael Gove wants him to

:17:10.:17:16.

it -- once you to know that many schools will soon be academies.

:17:16.:17:20.

sea only has this fantastic new building because of the wonderful

:17:20.:17:23.

job Conservative councillors have done. Academies give head teachers

:17:23.:17:28.

the chance to decide what should happen. It also means the school

:17:28.:17:33.

becomes a focus of pride for the community. The Conservatives run

:17:33.:17:38.

most of the councils in this region. Eric Pickles boasts the run

:17:38.:17:43.

authorities efficiently and keep down council tax by sheering staff

:17:43.:17:47.

and outsourcing services. Labour says the result is poor-quality

:17:47.:17:52.

services and job losses. The cuts were beginning to bite last year

:17:52.:17:57.

during the elections and the Conservatives braced for big losses.

:17:57.:18:01.

Everyone was surprised by Ben making increases. Then councils

:18:01.:18:06.

were taken control of, such as Northampton and North Norfolk. But

:18:06.:18:10.

the heat is on this year, particularly in Harlow, and the

:18:10.:18:15.

party needs to work hard to win over voters.

:18:15.:18:19.

And next week here on Look East, we will be taking a closer look at

:18:19.:18:22.

some of the more interesting battles going on in this election

:18:22.:18:24.

campaign. Thank you, Andrew. And there is

:18:24.:18:27.

more coverage of the region's political scene this weekend on

:18:27.:18:31.

Sunday Politics. It is on BBC One on Sunday at the later time of two

:18:31.:18:36.

o'clock. Have a pen ready, because we have

:18:36.:18:46.
:18:46.:18:48.

details coming up of where to send your London Marathon photographs.

:18:48.:18:51.

One woman who is no stranger to the marathon circuit is Chrissey

:18:51.:18:55.

Wellington, the world Iron Man champion. While most runners in

:18:55.:18:58.

Sunday's big events are probably now eating lots of carbs and taking

:18:58.:19:01.

it easy, Chrissey, who is from Norfolk, is in the middle of a

:19:01.:19:04.

charity marathon and cycle ride. The route is taking her from Paris

:19:04.:19:06.

to London. Today, she passed through Cambridgeshire. The event

:19:06.:19:09.

is in memory of a woman who died from breast cancer.

:19:09.:19:13.

They are riding in remembrance of a mother and a wife. Jane Tomlinson.

:19:13.:19:18.

You sometimes question it, but have been accrued around you helps and

:19:18.:19:24.

:19:24.:19:34.
:19:34.:19:35.

fields, and you think, this is England at its best.

:19:35.:19:44.

Well done, Chrissie. Great to be back in East Anglia at! It's a bike

:19:44.:19:47.

ride which takes some beating. But for Iron Woman, Chrissey, she makes

:19:47.:19:52.

it look easy. For others, the pain is beginning to show. I just have

:19:52.:19:58.

to do my best. Not finishing is not an option. What Jane Tomlinson did,

:19:58.:20:05.

compared to as, pales into insignificance -- compared to what

:20:05.:20:08.

we do, that pales into insignificance. Their challenge

:20:08.:20:11.

started last Sunday with the Paris marathon. From there, they cycled

:20:11.:20:17.

to Zeebrugge. Then the ferry to Hull. It is wonderful to be part of

:20:17.:20:22.

a teen Challenge, instead of racing on my own. She has been fantastic,

:20:22.:20:31.

boosting morale, setting the pace, showing the boys girls are much

:20:31.:20:38.

better. Jane Tomlinson finished the marathon. I will probably cry, and

:20:38.:20:44.

I am not a crying person, because it will mean an awful lot. Most

:20:44.:20:47.

marathon runners will tell you the final miles are the hardest. Spare

:20:47.:20:51.

a thought for this lot. With two days to go, they haven't even got

:20:51.:20:59.

close. I am delighted to say we can go to

:20:59.:21:04.

Hertfordshire and talk to Chrissie. Isn't this just showing off? Riding

:21:04.:21:13.

a bicycle to demand than -- to the marathon? It is part of this

:21:13.:21:18.

challenge and I am so excited. are having some problems with

:21:38.:21:46.

many people... It is about getting out there, testing, encouraging

:21:46.:21:53.

everyone to do the same. Chrissie, I am a very sorry. I can see it is

:21:54.:22:00.

pouring with rain and we are having some problems here. We will try one

:22:00.:22:09.

more time. Have you changed your mind now? I know that as you event

:22:09.:22:16.

was not in the Olympics, do you know I wish you could be there?

:22:16.:22:25.

Probably not. I chose Iron Man over the Olympic triathlon. I have four

:22:25.:22:30.

World Championship victories that I am proud of. The Olympics is the

:22:30.:22:34.

greatest sporting spectacle, so why will be there cheering everyone on,

:22:34.:22:41.

hopefully doing some commentary work and enjoying it. It has

:22:41.:22:47.

happened again. Chrissie, a we will have to leave it there. Thank you

:22:47.:22:52.

so much and good luck with the marathon and well-run -- well done

send them by email. The address is [email protected]. Good luck if

you are taking part. Now for the You are looking rather different.

:23:17.:23:22.

Just a slight change of image. Opinion has been divided.

:23:22.:23:28.

Today, another day of heavy thundery showers. Some places

:23:28.:23:34.

getting dry weather. He is a picture of some hail. When we get

:23:34.:23:39.

thundery showers, sometime -- sometimes we get funnel clouds. He

:23:39.:23:45.

is a picture of one from Louis the Greengrass. Thank you for that. --

:23:45.:23:51.

Lewis Greengrass. On the whole for the whole month, we would expect 45

:23:51.:23:56.

millimetres on average of rain. But you will see that a number of

:23:56.:24:00.

locations, particularly in the north, have exceeded that. Not

:24:00.:24:07.

quite up to 45 in Essex yet, but there is still ten days to go. What

:24:07.:24:13.

does this mean for the drought? We are no long term situation, so this

:24:13.:24:19.

will not reverse things, but is a step in the right direction. Low

:24:19.:24:24.

pressure right over us today, which is causing these intense

:24:24.:24:28.

thunderstorms. Looking at the satellite, you can see shower

:24:29.:24:33.

clouds gathered. The rate that chart shows some pretty intense

:24:33.:24:39.

showers. Some places escaped and got some sunshine. Quite a lot

:24:39.:24:46.

around. These pictures are from an hour and gold. Some further showers

:24:46.:24:52.

this evening, possibly fading overnight. We could get some misty

:24:52.:24:57.

conditions with dampness around. Clearing skies might just get down

:24:57.:25:02.

to around four Celsius. We should stay free of ground frost with

:25:02.:25:06.

these values. Winds should generally be light and tonne

:25:06.:25:13.

westerly through the night. Tomorrow is a carbon copy of today.

:25:13.:25:17.

Starting with early sunshine, then shower clouds gathering. The

:25:17.:25:22.

potential for some heavy and thundery showers into that

:25:22.:25:27.

afternoon. Temperatures climbing into double figures. The winds will

:25:27.:25:32.

be alight north-westerly, a hazard of that meaning showers will be

:25:32.:25:39.

slow-moving. If you catch showers, you might be stuck under a downpour.

:25:39.:25:43.

The risk of heavy showers through the afternoon. The picture stays

:25:43.:25:51.

the same. We still have low pressure looking ahead. That is

:25:51.:25:59.

more potential for big showers. For the marathon, it looks like heavy

:25:59.:26:04.

showers still around. And lengthy periods of rain on Monday. Further

:26:04.:26:08.

showers on Tuesday. And some temperatures low enough for a

:26:08.:26:12.

ground frost. We appear to have had some

:26:12.:26:17.
