the News of the World. That's all from the News at Six.

:00:00.:00:10.

A former BBC Radio presenter who exploited his position to abuse boys

:00:11.:00:16.

is jailed for 22 years. The judge said Michael Souter had an ongoing

:00:17.:00:21.

sexual obsession with boys and could offend again. The individual that

:00:22.:00:28.

has been removed from society today is and has been a risk to children.

:00:29.:00:35.

Hello from Amelia and me. Also tonight: Protest over plans to slash

:00:36.:00:46.

money for young people in Essex. 5000 fish released into the wild to

:00:47.:00:49.

encourage more people to take up angling.

:00:50.:00:53.

And Rachel and Pasha hoping to rise to the occasion this weekend.

:00:54.:01:02.

Hello. First tonight, 22 years in jail for the former BBC Radio

:01:03.:01:07.

presenter who exploited his position to sexually abuse boys. Michael

:01:08.:01:11.

Souter was described as a "predatory paedophile", the Jimmy Savile of

:01:12.:01:17.

Norfolk. Having been convicted on 19 counts of sex abuse, the judge today

:01:18.:01:20.

described his defence as pathetic and told him he had blighted the

:01:21.:01:25.

lives of the children he abused. Our chief reporter Kim Riley was in

:01:26.:01:34.

court. He was a dominant predator who used

:01:35.:01:39.

his local celebrity status to abuse victims he had carefully groomed. On

:01:40.:01:42.

the face of it, a pillar of the community. He used to be a venture

:01:43.:01:46.

Scout leader, a mental or too vulnerable young boys. Today, six of

:01:47.:01:51.

his victims watched in court as he stood before the judge. The judge

:01:52.:01:55.

told Souter he was guilty of an appalling catalogue of abuse. These

:01:56.:01:57.

were breaches of trust of the grossest kind. He said the already

:01:58.:02:03.

damaged childhood are some of your victims was destroyed, and their

:02:04.:02:07.

lives blighted. The evidence against you was overwhelming, and the jury

:02:08.:02:11.

rightly rejected your pathetic attempts to blame the victims and

:02:12.:02:17.

others. It would be much better, much easier, if he actually now just

:02:18.:02:23.

put his hands up and said, firstly, sorry to his victims and admitted

:02:24.:02:27.

his part in it all. I think he was the only person in that courtroom

:02:28.:02:29.

who believed he was innocent will stop I would have been happier with

:02:30.:02:32.

a shorter sentence with an admission of guilt. I think it would bring

:02:33.:02:38.

closure to this much better than seeing him rotting in prison or just

:02:39.:02:42.

banning his appeal or revenge. Do you hate him? No, I don't,

:02:43.:02:48.

strangely. It was all so long ago. I was very young, very innocent, very

:02:49.:02:55.

naive, and he just played the whole thing for such a long time. The one

:02:56.:02:59.

thing I did do was protect my own children from him. A Norfolk `based

:03:00.:03:04.

charity which supports sexual abuse victims page of you to those who

:03:05.:03:07.

came forward to give evidence in court. Myself, the staff, all the

:03:08.:03:14.

volunteers who work here, we cannot overstate the courage and bravery of

:03:15.:03:17.

people who came forward. The stigma around this issue means many people

:03:18.:03:21.

bury it and it takes enormous courage to face the demons, and to

:03:22.:03:24.

open up to other people as well about what you are going through.

:03:25.:03:29.

The courage of these people is absolutely enormous. The judge said

:03:30.:03:34.

images found on Souter's computer showed a continuous session with

:03:35.:03:37.

young boys. He praised the work of the police team who had finally

:03:38.:03:40.

brought in to justice. His defence barrister put it: A distinguished

:03:41.:03:46.

career had in some respects come to nothing. His client, still

:03:47.:03:49.

protesting his innocence, would face the bulk of his final years behind

:03:50.:03:52.

prison walls. After the sentencing, I spoke to

:03:53.:03:55.

Detective Inspector Paul Brown and asked him for his reaction. It sends

:03:56.:04:06.

out a very clear message. What would have perhaps been nicer is if Mr

:04:07.:04:10.

Souter had admitted his guilt in some way, but something forward to

:04:11.:04:18.

the victims of his crimes, to lessen the burden, perhaps, on them. He has

:04:19.:04:23.

not. Because there was no admission of guilt, and there was no emotion

:04:24.:04:28.

today either, what they? Not at all. I certainly watched him of the

:04:29.:04:31.

sentence was read out, and I did not see any form of emotion at all. And

:04:32.:04:36.

do you think there could be more victims? At the moment, we have

:04:37.:04:41.

since the sentencing had a number of phone calls with information that we

:04:42.:04:44.

will clearly follow up on all stop that is really important to say. And

:04:45.:04:50.

that is important information, and there are victims you still need to

:04:51.:04:56.

talk to, what could that potentially mean for Souter? Any future action

:04:57.:05:02.

would be very much down to our conversations with the Crown

:05:03.:05:06.

Prosecution Service. Recently, the guidance and the guidelines around

:05:07.:05:09.

prosecuting these cases has changed, and that is really important, and we

:05:10.:05:14.

will work within them. That partnership to wean us and the Crown

:05:15.:05:17.

Prosecution Service is really important. I was going to ask about

:05:18.:05:21.

the new guidelines, because do they not put the onus on the allegations

:05:22.:05:26.

rather than on the victims as good witnesses? How important is that?

:05:27.:05:31.

That is significant, it really is. Actually looking at what is the

:05:32.:05:36.

offence rather than what is the background of a victim, I am not

:05:37.:05:39.

going to prejudge people, and I am not going to prejudge people, and

:05:40.:05:42.

I'm talking in a general sense, but the effect of these offences on

:05:43.:05:46.

people can be enormous and life changing. There may well be people

:05:47.:05:52.

whose lives have changed, not necessarily for the better, and they

:05:53.:05:56.

might worry that those features might make us be less inclined to

:05:57.:06:01.

look fairly upon it, and the answer to that is, not true at all. Come

:06:02.:06:07.

forward and tell us. We are looking at the offence rather than what the

:06:08.:06:11.

individual has in their background. The judge mentioned on several

:06:12.:06:16.

occasions the courage of those witnesses that have come forward.

:06:17.:06:19.

What would you like to say about them? I think we all owe them, and

:06:20.:06:28.

witnesses like them, a debt of gratitude, and if people do not come

:06:29.:06:33.

forward and have that courage to support things right from the very

:06:34.:06:37.

beginning and give their story, right the way through to standing

:06:38.:06:40.

potentially in front of a court and talking about things that have

:06:41.:06:42.

happened a month without people willing to do that, the whole of the

:06:43.:06:48.

public protection universe would fall flat on its face. And you can't

:06:49.:06:53.

do your job. Not in the slightest. Thank you very much.

:06:54.:06:57.

The prospect of a 60% cut to youth services in Essex led to a protest

:06:58.:07:01.

outside County Hall today. The union believe the jobs of 170 youth

:07:02.:07:04.

workers could be at risk, but the council says savings need to be

:07:05.:07:12.

made. Save our youth ! Essex County

:07:13.:07:16.

Council say they want to hear the views of young people, and today

:07:17.:07:20.

they did, as youngsters opposed to cuts to the council's youth service

:07:21.:07:24.

marched on County Hall in Chelmsford. It should be a positive

:07:25.:07:30.

impact. They should finally get people to understand why we are

:07:31.:07:34.

here. We won't be able to get any training or volunteering

:07:35.:07:36.

opportunities. They will all disappear. That leaves us with

:07:37.:07:39.

nothing. They provided our youth services, and now they are cutting

:07:40.:07:44.

it, and we have to go back to the streets. I do not think that is

:07:45.:07:48.

there. About Norfolk and Suffolk county councils have already made

:07:49.:07:51.

significant cuts to their youth services, so in some ways, Essex is

:07:52.:07:56.

just catching up. But, three years ago, the budget here in Essex was

:07:57.:08:02.

cut from ?12 million to ?5 million. These cuts will see that reduced

:08:03.:08:07.

again to just ?2 million. It is places like Harlow Youth Hub by

:08:08.:08:15.

campaigners say are at risk. There are 28 centres like this in Essex,

:08:16.:08:18.

used by 5000 young people for all kinds of support. Youth workers are

:08:19.:08:24.

like lifelines to young people. When young people have been let down by

:08:25.:08:28.

school, or their parents, and where they have nowhere else to turn, that

:08:29.:08:32.

youth worker can be that right role model might get them back on the

:08:33.:08:36.

right track. But the Conservative run council say the cuts are

:08:37.:08:41.

unavoidable. We are looking at the reduction in our budgets across the

:08:42.:08:45.

board over the next few years of in XS of ?215 million. That doesn't

:08:46.:08:49.

come from everywhere, and we need to make sure that no one single service

:08:50.:08:54.

bears the brunt of everything. We still have potholes to fill, and

:08:55.:08:57.

elderly people, and vulnerable people to look after. We are the

:08:58.:09:05.

future ! The council consultation closes in three weeks, but the row

:09:06.:09:08.

over the proposed cuts is likely to continue.

:09:09.:09:11.

University staff have walked out in a bitter row over money. It's

:09:12.:09:14.

affected lectures, and has been condemned by the employers. The

:09:15.:09:17.

three unions involved say it's just the start of a campaign for better

:09:18.:09:26.

pay. Lecturers, cleaners, ground staff.

:09:27.:09:31.

All were on the picket line is today the University of Essex. All angry

:09:32.:09:35.

at a 1% pay increase they say is a pay cut in real terms. Education,

:09:36.:09:40.

the core of the student experience, is delivered by the staff, and good

:09:41.:09:45.

quality staff cost money. So there we go. What the students are getting

:09:46.:09:48.

is perhaps a gay noes interruption to their education, but if we don't

:09:49.:09:54.

get the right pay, they are not going to get the staff to deliver

:09:55.:09:57.

the quality of education they really deserve . Lectures were cancelled,

:09:58.:10:02.

though not all. My lecture was cancelled today, the teacher sent us

:10:03.:10:07.

an e`mail yesterday saying it won't happen. It is only one day. If you

:10:08.:10:12.

compare with strikes in other countries, you will see in the UK,

:10:13.:10:15.

it is really civilised. They are not closing this will come as you can

:10:16.:10:21.

see, we are here. One of our lecturers is part of the union, but

:10:22.:10:24.

still she has taught us today. I thought it was brilliant. At the UDA

:10:25.:10:31.

in Norwich, more protests. We have been promised a 1% pay increase,

:10:32.:10:36.

which is insufficient, really. We have been in negotiations with the

:10:37.:10:41.

university already, and that is where they've stopped. It is not

:10:42.:10:46.

enough. They represent 13% cut since 2008. In Cambridge, the unions held

:10:47.:10:50.

a regional rally. The body that sets higher education pay, though,

:10:51.:10:54.

condemned today's strike. It dismissed its impact, calling it

:10:55.:11:01.

minimal. We have made it clear that 1% is the maximum affordability for

:11:02.:11:05.

institutions if they are to remain sustainable in a competitive and

:11:06.:11:07.

challenging environment. We hope that the unions will return to the

:11:08.:11:11.

table and recognise they have a very good offer. The University of Essex

:11:12.:11:15.

day there were little destruction. Some cancelled lectures will be

:11:16.:11:19.

rescheduled, but the three unions behind today's strike one will be

:11:20.:11:22.

further walk`outs if no improved pay offer is made.

:11:23.:11:26.

The number of homes still without power in parts of the region after

:11:27.:11:30.

the storms on Monday, is now down below 2,000. Homes and businesses in

:11:31.:11:33.

Suffolk and Essex were among the worst affected in the country. Extra

:11:34.:11:36.

engineers were brought in from Northern Ireland to help with the

:11:37.:11:39.

repair work. Three drop`in centres have been opened in Suffolk to help

:11:40.:11:55.

people who are still without power. Thieves have stolen thousands of

:11:56.:11:58.

pounds of food and equipment from a charity in Peterborough.

:11:59.:12:01.

The soup kitchen in the city has been raided twice this week. Thieves

:12:02.:12:04.

took everything, including food and cooker hobs. A short time ago Louise

:12:05.:12:07.

Hubball sent us this report. They feed up to 60 homeless people

:12:08.:12:10.

every day from this unit, and what happened was, on Tuesday night,

:12:11.:12:13.

thieves broke in and stole two handbags, and from one of those

:12:14.:12:17.

bags, they managed to get the keys, and they later came back and help

:12:18.:12:20.

themselves. These shelves were absolutely full of food to be fed to

:12:21.:12:25.

the homeless and needy in the area. As you can see, a big gap on this

:12:26.:12:29.

shelf. They took a number of tins of corn beef and June, but the most

:12:30.:12:34.

serious theft happened just through here. This is the area where the

:12:35.:12:39.

soup is heated up, and what they have done is, they have taken three

:12:40.:12:44.

of the Hobbs, so for the 150 volunteers who work for this

:12:45.:12:48.

charity, it has been absolutely devastating. If you come over here

:12:49.:12:52.

with me, we can meet Ian Davies from the charity. I just mentioned the

:12:53.:12:56.

volunteers. What is their reaction to this? Devastated. I think you're

:12:57.:13:01.

body in society would reject this, or any normal person would be, like

:13:02.:13:09.

myself now, speechless. The value of the good steak is at the ?3000. ABBA

:13:10.:13:15.

the charity keep going? The phone has not stopped ringing all day. We

:13:16.:13:18.

have had offers by e`mail for not only the food replacement, we have

:13:19.:13:24.

had offers of people asking to cook food for us. The other macro that is

:13:25.:13:28.

so good to hear. It is good that after this horrible incident, people

:13:29.:13:32.

have vowed to pulled together. They will be out again feeding the

:13:33.:13:35.

homeless tonight, and here are some of the produce they will take with

:13:36.:13:37.

them. still to come in the programme

:13:38.:13:46.

tonight, we are on the Trail of the wail of the coast of Norfolk. And

:13:47.:13:50.

Rachel and Pasha hoping to rise to the occasion in strictly this

:13:51.:13:51.

weekend. Now to some real small fry. But they

:13:52.:14:02.

will grow to be about this big, unless, of course, you are an

:14:03.:14:05.

angler, in which case it is probably out there. They were bred in

:14:06.:14:08.

Nottinghamshire, and today they were released into the Corby boating

:14:09.:14:11.

lake, where numbers have been falling. More than 5,000 carp and

:14:12.:14:14.

roach were brought on the 1.5`hour journey. And it's hoped more people

:14:15.:14:21.

will be encouraged to try fishing. The end of a long journey, the start

:14:22.:14:27.

of a new life. Transported at a steady 10 degrees, so their new home

:14:28.:14:34.

is not a shock to the system. The fish are transported on pure oxygen,

:14:35.:14:37.

so they are quite happy in the tanks. You got to be really careful

:14:38.:14:40.

when netting them out of the tank. Obviously, we don't want to damage

:14:41.:14:44.

them. It has taken 18 months to get to this point, so the last few

:14:45.:14:49.

minutes are important. Here is where they are from. And Environment

:14:50.:14:52.

Agency farm in Nottinghamshire, where they are counted out

:14:53.:14:55.

electronically after being reared in greenhouses in the vital first few

:14:56.:15:00.

months. Della macro we feed them on the little tiny shrimp we have, and

:15:01.:15:04.

then we stuck them into ponds. From there on, we are trying to rear

:15:05.:15:08.

these fish in as natural a way as possible. A big difference for our

:15:09.:15:11.

faces, we are trying to produce fish that are fit for purpose and can

:15:12.:15:16.

cope with life in the wild, and that is not easy. Among the fish being

:15:17.:15:20.

released today is the 10 million fish that has been bred to restock

:15:21.:15:24.

the nation's lakes and rivers. It could be to replace those lost by

:15:25.:15:28.

pollution, but today, they are being released to encourage more people to

:15:29.:15:35.

take up wishing. `` fishing. The people they really want to take up

:15:36.:15:39.

fishing is the next generation, hoping to attract young anglers this

:15:40.:15:44.

afternoon. I am teaching my son the basics of fishing, and how to go

:15:45.:15:48.

about it, what baits to use, how to put it, what hope to use. The basics

:15:49.:15:53.

of fishing, really. It keeps them off the streets, keeps them out of

:15:54.:15:57.

Misti, and it is learning them something. I think it is good,

:15:58.:16:00.

because you get to see the fish when you catch them, and I find this

:16:01.:16:04.

fascinating. Just catching them, and how you put them back in, and how

:16:05.:16:11.

they flap about. While today they are stuffing of the fish, others are

:16:12.:16:16.

stealing them. That has become a big problem throughout the country. We

:16:17.:16:18.

do have a lot of illegal fishermen come down here at night will stop

:16:19.:16:22.

and think once we have gone off site, that we don't return, but we

:16:23.:16:26.

do. We sneaked back in the dark and we. It is part of a nationwide

:16:27.:16:31.

restocking programme. The future's bright for the fish here, even if

:16:32.:16:35.

their new home looks murky. The tens of millions of people who

:16:36.:16:38.

watch Strictly Come Dancing will know that Rachel Riley from Essex is

:16:39.:16:43.

struggling to please the judges. Of course, she's a presenter on the

:16:44.:16:46.

programme Countdown, and has been told she needs to fight to stay on

:16:47.:16:52.

the show. You can't fault the effort. The

:16:53.:16:56.

couple are training 30 hours a week, and on Saturday they'll be hoping to

:16:57.:16:59.

impress with an American Smooth. In a moment we'll hear from her mum,

:17:00.:17:03.

but first Gareth George has been to meet Rachel and Pasha in training.

:17:04.:17:15.

At a secret location in London, Rachel Riley and her partner Pasha

:17:16.:17:21.

rehearse for this Saturday's live show. How nerve racking is it when

:17:22.:17:28.

you go out on that live show? I would be thinking, I going to get my

:17:29.:17:33.

steps? It is pretty terrifying. I can keep myself calm until the music

:17:34.:17:37.

Homs on, and then it is just, where are my? You have got so much

:17:38.:17:43.

adrenaline. Even more nerve wracking when you activate the judges. They

:17:44.:17:47.

were not too kind about Rachel's modern take on a glass of Dublin.

:17:48.:17:53.

You have come out with a lot of aggression and a lot of clean lines

:17:54.:17:56.

and clean for work, and it just did not quite work. That is a great

:17:57.:18:03.

pity. You must have a thick`skinned, have a new, because some of the

:18:04.:18:07.

judges... Do you think they have been a bit rude? The judges, I mean

:18:08.:18:13.

you have to be critiqued, obviously, but the person I want to do well for

:18:14.:18:17.

is Pasha, because he sees me in training, he sees where I have

:18:18.:18:22.

started, where I am at the start of the week, how much effort I put in

:18:23.:18:24.

and how much improvement I hopefully make. Is she a natural density macro

:18:25.:18:31.

Rachel... Sorry, Rachel. Oh, she not here. Rachel is not a natural

:18:32.:18:34.

dancer, so you see on Saturday night, it is actually... It requires

:18:35.:18:42.

hours and hours of hard work for her. But they are still rooting for

:18:43.:18:47.

that her old school, and across the rest of Essex. I am getting things

:18:48.:18:51.

through my letterbox, my old school are supporting me, there posters up

:18:52.:18:56.

in the Indian takeaway and everywhere around! It is really

:18:57.:18:59.

sweet, and having all the support is like having a talking animal. His

:19:00.:19:08.

staunchest supporter is her mum. She is put posters up. She is doing all

:19:09.:19:12.

sorts. It is brilliant. It is her favourite programme. She wants a

:19:13.:19:15.

dance with Pasha, that is a request !

:19:16.:19:17.

Late this afternoon, we spoke to Rachel's mother Celia, and started

:19:18.:19:20.

by asking is she was confident for the weekend.

:19:21.:19:30.

I am 75% confidence. I think she has had a good week of practice, she is

:19:31.:19:33.

really looking forward to it, and she is absolutely loving the dance.

:19:34.:19:38.

And do you love watching here when you see her do that live, or have

:19:39.:19:43.

you got your head in your hands? No, I haven't got my head in my hands,

:19:44.:19:47.

but my heart starts thumping, and When She Was Mine a dance off, I was

:19:48.:19:51.

grabbing hold of the seat in front of me for dear life. And when the

:19:52.:19:55.

judges say unkind things about it, what is your reaction? Well, as a

:19:56.:20:01.

mother, I am obviously feeling for Rachel. The slug in salt was not too

:20:02.:20:08.

kind, but I'm very proud of the way she keeps a smile on their face and

:20:09.:20:11.

she takes it. I don't think I could take the criticism that well. And

:20:12.:20:16.

does she take it OK, order she phoned you up and come and see you

:20:17.:20:20.

afterwards, upset by it all? No, she doesn't mention it at all. She just

:20:21.:20:25.

carries on. It makes it more determined and come back the next

:20:26.:20:28.

week and rectify anything they have mentioned that needs rectifying. It

:20:29.:20:32.

just makes you stronger. Tell me a little bit about how hard she is

:20:33.:20:35.

working at this. She is dancing all the hours she can. She thinks she is

:20:36.:20:41.

wasting time I actually being asleep or eating, and she has lost a lot of

:20:42.:20:45.

weight. And she has got blisters all over her feet, and I Inc you know

:20:46.:20:51.

that she has got a back problem, so she is in pain, but she is going to

:20:52.:20:54.

dance through that pain, and she is very determined to do her very best.

:20:55.:20:59.

And she has an incredible amount of local support. Out important is

:21:00.:21:05.

that? Extremely important. I have been canvassing all my friends and

:21:06.:21:08.

acquaintances. She has her own fan club, Pasha has his own fan club, I

:21:09.:21:13.

have been going round the town with posters. I give a lot of talks to

:21:14.:21:17.

groups. I have asked them to vote for Rachel. Some lovely comments

:21:18.:21:21.

online. She has had lovely Twitter comments from people like Liz Hurley

:21:22.:21:25.

and Sarah Milligan and other sorts of people. Everybody says it is one

:21:26.:21:29.

of the best things they do in their life will stop at leaving it has

:21:30.:21:33.

changed a? Well, for one, she absolutely loves dancing now. She

:21:34.:21:37.

has never dance in her life will stop I only saw the dance at their

:21:38.:21:40.

wedding, and that was the first time I have seen it on the dance floor. I

:21:41.:21:44.

think she wants to carry on dancing. Everybody seems to get the bug from

:21:45.:21:48.

dance thing. I have always had the bug. I used to dance very many years

:21:49.:21:53.

ago. Rachel is now loving it, and she wants to continue. Give her our

:21:54.:21:57.

best wishes. But look at the weekend, and thank you for being

:21:58.:22:02.

with us. Thank you very much indeed. Keep voting !

:22:03.:22:04.

A humpback whale has been sighted you entered one of these

:22:05.:22:13.

competitions once. Second, not first. You are going to get yourself

:22:14.:22:24.

into trouble ! We are going to talk about Wales now.

:22:25.:22:26.

A humpback whale has been sighted of the Norfolk coast in recent days. It

:22:27.:22:30.

was first spotted at Hemsby early on Tuesday morning, and since then,

:22:31.:22:33.

hundreds of people have flocked to the coast to try to catch a glimpse.

:22:34.:22:37.

It's the first time a humpback whale has been spotted in the waters off

:22:38.:22:40.

Norfolk. Mike Liggins was up bright and early this morning, to see what

:22:41.:22:44.

he could see. Sadly things didn't go exactly to plan.

:22:45.:22:53.

Hemsby, just north of great Yarmouth. This is where Ryan Irvin

:22:54.:22:57.

and his girlfriend Tabatha spotted the humpback whale early on Tuesday

:22:58.:23:02.

morning. They were the first to see it. I just looked out the patio

:23:03.:23:06.

doors, and there was a big blow, and I shouted to Tabatha, Wale ! She

:23:07.:23:10.

came running through, and we get the telescope out, and managed to see it

:23:11.:23:15.

surfacing. We were pretty certain it was a humpback whale. Both Ryan and

:23:16.:23:24.

Tabatha are marine scientists, so could they help this fine the way?

:23:25.:23:29.

Apparently, we had to look for gannets. Bewail associates with a

:23:30.:23:32.

group of gannets. They follow the Wale, looking for an easy lunch.

:23:33.:23:37.

North of the air is Winston, whether Wale was spotted on Tuesday and

:23:38.:23:41.

Wednesday. You could see a long way out, but no Wale insight. So, here's

:23:42.:23:46.

one we made earlier. The humpback whale, to 19 metres long, and 36

:23:47.:23:52.

tonnes. It is a big Wale, but it is an even bigger C. We have not

:23:53.:23:59.

spotted it yet. Just one or two very curious seals. I've got it. I have

:24:00.:24:08.

filmed it. Andy Lawson filmed it. Here's an action replay. This is

:24:09.:24:13.

what we wanted, but the humpback didn't seem to be around. I now, we

:24:14.:24:17.

had been joined by this man, who came from Nottingham to see the

:24:18.:24:22.

whale. He sensed my frustration. You need to have patience and optimism,

:24:23.:24:25.

but also, you shouldn't forget about where you are and seeing what is

:24:26.:24:34.

around you. Good advice ! There was a rumour the Wale had been

:24:35.:24:41.

spotted further north. We're now going to sea. Why has the humpback

:24:42.:24:47.

been a? Experts say, why not? A ban on commercial whaling means that

:24:48.:24:50.

numbers are growing, and it was probably only a matter of time.

:24:51.:24:54.

Sadly, we never did see the whale, but he is out there somewhere, and

:24:55.:24:59.

who knows. One day, he may even let us film him.

:25:00.:25:07.

Patients and optimism. Kind of sums up Mike, doesn't it? Well, he is

:25:08.:25:13.

optimistic, anyhow. The weather now. Good evening. We will see some rain

:25:14.:25:17.

in the next few days, and strong winds. At the moment, quite calm,

:25:18.:25:21.

although you may catch a shower. We have had lots of cloud around today,

:25:22.:25:24.

and it was they cloudy through this evening. This rant gets time to

:25:25.:25:28.

clear first thing, but if you are unlucky, you might catch a shower.

:25:29.:25:32.

For most people heading out for Halloween, it should just about stay

:25:33.:25:36.

dry. A good deal of cloud will mean a mild night. Just the chance of a

:25:37.:25:39.

shower in the first out of the night, and later, perhaps the use

:25:40.:25:43.

what's of light rain or drizzle, but mostly by the end of the night, a

:25:44.:25:48.

dry end. Temperatures for most of us are hanging around ten or 11

:25:49.:25:52.

degrees, but we might find one or two spots dropped to eight or nine

:25:53.:25:59.

Celsius. Into tomorrow, this is our pressure pattern. An area of low

:26:00.:26:02.

pressure moves in from the south`west. There is a little bit of

:26:03.:26:05.

uncertainty as to how far north it will go, and that will determine how

:26:06.:26:10.

much rain we get, so for many of us, it will be a cloudy start, and

:26:11.:26:14.

gradually, we will see some rain developing into the afternoon. We

:26:15.:26:18.

could see quite a lot of dry weather in the morning. Temperatures around

:26:19.:26:23.

12 Celsius, perhaps up to 13 in one or two spots, and the wind generally

:26:24.:26:29.

is light and south to south`westerly. Into the afternoon

:26:30.:26:32.

and evening, this is where it could get interesting, because the rain

:26:33.:26:35.

could really turn quite heavy if the low`pressure gas fire, that the

:26:36.:26:39.

moment, it looks like the heaviest rain will affect parts of Essex and

:26:40.:26:42.

Hertfordshire, and that could produce some heavy bursts of rain,

:26:43.:26:49.

some problems or a shower, no doubt. Looking ahead, the next low`pressure

:26:50.:26:53.

system is moving in on Saturday. The significance of this will be the

:26:54.:26:56.

strength of wind, particularly for the evening and overnight, with

:26:57.:26:59.

gusts possible between 40 and 50 mph. That could be a problem if you

:27:00.:27:05.

are heading out on Saturday night, the day itself does knowledge bad.

:27:06.:27:09.

It should stay mostly dry, sunny spells in the morning, increasing

:27:10.:27:12.

cloud, and then the wind speed rationing into the evening and

:27:13.:27:15.

overnight. Some rain on that front, some perhaps a bit more persistent

:27:16.:27:20.

into the overnight period. Gradually clearing away, but still windy for

:27:21.:27:24.

Sunday. There is just about a chance of a shower for Sunday, but some

:27:25.:27:27.

sunny spells as well. It looks like a settled darter next week, cooler

:27:28.:27:33.

by day, and overnight, a quick barometer check, 1014 millibars, 29

:27:34.:27:40.

inches will stop thank you. Not great for fireworks. We will see you

:27:41.:27:41.

tomorrow. Goodbye. Planet Earth - it's unique.

:27:42.:28:24.

It has life. To understand why, we're going to

:28:25.:28:28.

build a planet...up there. These were the objects that were

:28:29.:28:36.

making the Earth. We're now weightless.

:28:37.:28:39.

That's how our planet started. Your arms are a little bit long

:28:40.:28:42.

Is that as small as they go?

:28:43.:28:46.
