three times faster than wages. That is all from BBC News | :00:00. | :00:07.
Welcome. In the programme tonight, train fares increase for everyone, | :00:08. | :00:13.
but some are paying a whopping 5% more. I haven't had a pay rise for | :00:14. | :00:18.
four years, so how you're meant to do that is beyond me. As pubs | :00:19. | :00:23.
continue to close, more communities decide to take on their local. | :00:24. | :00:30.
Britain's got talent star Ronan Parke hits back at bullies. And when | :00:31. | :00:36.
it comes to doing an annual stock take at Banham Zoo, some animals are | :00:37. | :00:41.
easier to count than others. A woman involved in a car crash in | :00:42. | :00:44.
Norfolk in which two children first tonight, reaction here in the | :00:45. | :00:55.
east to those fare rises. The average cost for rail travel across | :00:56. | :01:00.
England has gone up by around 3%. Here, it's far more. The song, the | :01:01. | :01:05.
increase is a whopping 5%. Who is taking the heat of that 5% | :01:06. | :01:10.
rise? Travellers between Colchester and Charles Wood. The cost of an | :01:11. | :01:15.
annual season ticket is now ?2012. If you are travelling between | :01:16. | :01:18.
Ipswich in London, an annual season ticket has now reached ?6,000 for | :01:19. | :01:32.
the first time. That's only a rise of 2.7%. Commuters from Norwich to | :01:33. | :01:34.
London are also hard hit. Season tickets are now almost seven and a | :01:35. | :01:37.
half thousand pounds. That's just over a 4% rise. We have looked at | :01:38. | :01:39.
the reaction to the increases. For many, this was the first day | :01:40. | :01:43.
back at work after Christmas, and images in Norwich were facing | :01:44. | :01:46.
another hike to the rail fares. The average rise on greater Anglia dust | :01:47. | :01:51.
over 3% for stop there are no pay rises. I haven't had a pay rise for | :01:52. | :01:58.
four years. It seems to me the benefits of privatisation have felt | :01:59. | :02:00.
a long time ago. Commuters on Sea to see trains have | :02:01. | :02:08.
the same increase. We just need to go to work, come home and sleep. We | :02:09. | :02:12.
don't have money for anything else. OK, it goes up gradually. But so | :02:13. | :02:17.
does everything else. The Chancellor said he would cap season fares and | :02:18. | :02:25.
train tickets, but train comedies prefer to quote the average rise as | :02:26. | :02:29.
much lower, because they include much discounted fares. In England, | :02:30. | :02:32.
tickets are going up by an average of 2.8%, and these are the average | :02:33. | :02:39.
rises here. Greater Anglia up 3.1%. East Midlands Trains up 2.6%. But on | :02:40. | :02:46.
the publicly owned is coast mainline, the rise is just 1.21%. | :02:47. | :02:52.
These fare increases may be the lowest in four years, but they still | :02:53. | :02:56.
outstrip the rise in wages. It's part of a government drive to make | :02:57. | :03:00.
rail passengers pay a higher proportion of the cost of running | :03:01. | :03:03.
the railways, in effect putting more burden on the people who actually do | :03:04. | :03:09.
use the trains. The main thing we're doing is making strenuous efforts to | :03:10. | :03:12.
improve performance, and were working closely with our colleagues | :03:13. | :03:21.
to recognise that over 60% of the delays that are incurred are | :03:22. | :03:26.
attributable to infrastructure. Today the Green party staged | :03:27. | :03:28.
protests at stations across the region. They say the rail fare rises | :03:29. | :03:33.
are a rip`off. You say renationalise the rumours? Bring them back into | :03:34. | :03:37.
public ownership then tries by franchise. An MP has a Bill in | :03:38. | :03:42.
Parliament that would do that. A return to the days of British rail | :03:43. | :03:45.
will not happen. Fares will continue to go up. All passengers can hope | :03:46. | :03:54.
for our small increases. And the latest figures show that | :03:55. | :03:58.
across the country, 26 pubs close every week. But there is some good | :03:59. | :04:02.
news. Last year, the number taken over by the community doubled. They | :04:03. | :04:06.
become a community business with each investor having one vote | :04:07. | :04:10.
regardless of how much money they put in. There are three of these | :04:11. | :04:14.
so`called corporative pubs in Norfolk and Essex, and five more are | :04:15. | :04:21.
in the pipeline. Let's go to Essex. The Norton in Cold Norton. | :04:22. | :04:26.
They still have the Christmas decorations up here. Not for long. | :04:27. | :04:32.
The Norton, surprisingly busy for 20 to seven on a Thursday. I think Sun | :04:33. | :04:36.
put the word out there would be on the pleased. This pub is only open | :04:37. | :04:40.
because the locals raised enough money first to rent it, and now they | :04:41. | :04:46.
have raised ?125,000 to try to buy it. More and more of these community | :04:47. | :04:51.
or collaborative pubs are peering across our region, and I went to | :04:52. | :04:56.
Bentley near Ipswich where they are trying to do something very similar. | :04:57. | :05:01.
In Bentley, all the villagers can do is stand outside the pub in the | :05:02. | :05:04.
rain. But they are soon hoping they will be back at the bar with a pint. | :05:05. | :05:10.
It's imperative that we get in there as soon as possible before it | :05:11. | :05:14.
deteriorates any further. We talk about the church, the community | :05:15. | :05:20.
halls, and really the pub is the other elements, along with the shop, | :05:21. | :05:23.
that forms the core of any village. This is really why we don't want to | :05:24. | :05:27.
lose this one. This picture was taken after a darts match way back | :05:28. | :05:34.
in 1947. The pub has been at the centre of village life for well over | :05:35. | :05:39.
a century. When it closed in March, villagers decided to club together | :05:40. | :05:43.
to try to buy it. They have raised nearly ?250,000. We have around 170 | :05:44. | :05:49.
investors. The minimum investment has been ?250. I think the largest | :05:50. | :05:56.
investment we have had is around ?10,000. A lot of our regulars in | :05:57. | :06:01.
the pub have taken up refugee status in pubs in surrounding villages, so | :06:02. | :06:06.
people are very anxious to see it reopened. They have now raised | :06:07. | :06:10.
enough money to make an offer. They are with fingers crossed that it | :06:11. | :06:16.
will be accepted. I think some of the people here | :06:17. | :06:21.
might still be here after New Year's Eve. We're joined by the | :06:22. | :06:25.
chairman of the pub. How vital was to try to keep this pub open? This | :06:26. | :06:30.
pub had been closed for three years when we took the Novell, and during | :06:31. | :06:36.
that time, the Cold Norton became a dull place to live. It lost its | :06:37. | :06:45.
sense of community and you never made any new friends or met new | :06:46. | :06:49.
people. We can hear the scene tonight. There is a great | :06:50. | :06:53.
atmosphere. It is a pub with a great atmosphere. As I mentioned earlier, | :06:54. | :06:57.
it has become the heart of the village for most people. How easy | :06:58. | :07:04.
was it to raise the money? How many people contributed? Surprisingly | :07:05. | :07:07.
easy. Even in these economic times. People were fed up with the fact | :07:08. | :07:13.
that pubs were closing each week and they knew that for the investment | :07:14. | :07:19.
they could make a difference. It was surprisingly easy. We made ?125,000 | :07:20. | :07:28.
and there are about 80 shareholders, of which 80% of those are | :07:29. | :07:32.
villagers. What would you say to other villagers who want to do the | :07:33. | :07:35.
same thing? Do you think of would go? Inc very hard about it. It is a | :07:36. | :07:40.
tough business to be in and it is about getting a lot of things right. | :07:41. | :07:44.
If you can do that, the boards are really good and it gives you a good | :07:45. | :07:50.
feeling. Thank you very much. So maybe this is one way to save a | :07:51. | :07:55.
great institution, the village pub. Thank you very much. Mike Perry is | :07:56. | :08:00.
from the Plunkett Foundation, an organisation which gives support and | :08:01. | :08:04.
advice to people looking to set up a community project. I started by | :08:05. | :08:07.
asking why it is the tech community pub is more likely to succeed than a | :08:08. | :08:12.
traditional business. We have a huge amount of ideas and enthusiasm from | :08:13. | :08:17.
a variety of people. They will encourage the person running the | :08:18. | :08:22.
pub, whether that is a member `` member of the community or tenant to | :08:23. | :08:25.
run it in a way that will make sure they are successful. It is things | :08:26. | :08:31.
like it is buying pubs and trying to keep the rent as low as possible to | :08:32. | :08:35.
give a tenant or manage at the best chance as possible of making it a | :08:36. | :08:41.
success. We have seen the statistics of communities that have taken over | :08:42. | :08:45.
their pubs, they are still open. As far as raising the finances are | :08:46. | :08:50.
concerned, how easy is it to get the kind of backing many? Is not easy, | :08:51. | :08:54.
but we have seen communities achieve it, and we're pleased to see people | :08:55. | :09:03.
commit to a fund that will support team unity run enterprises, which is | :09:04. | :09:08.
coming online around autumn next year. That will be a real help as | :09:09. | :09:12.
well. What does this do for the community as a whole? It does a | :09:13. | :09:17.
couple of things. Saving pub is a massive achievement. The fact that | :09:18. | :09:20.
you have saved a pub meet you have an asset and you can do wonderful | :09:21. | :09:22.
things with that. People talk about it being not moored then a pub, so | :09:23. | :09:28.
offering cafes facilities during the day and then a pub in the evening. | :09:29. | :09:31.
It gives communities a huge amount of confidence that they can face | :09:32. | :09:35.
whatever challenges they are facing and can do it themselves. It is a | :09:36. | :09:40.
transformative effect. We have seen community run pubs have communities | :09:41. | :09:47.
that go out and do a lot more than just saving the pub. Of course this | :09:48. | :09:50.
is a business, and businesses do fail. What happens if a pub doesn't | :09:51. | :09:56.
make it? I'm sure it will happen at some point. Unfortunately, we will | :09:57. | :10:00.
get one that does fail. When you look at communities running shops, | :10:01. | :10:05.
so parallel communities running pubs, 318 are still open today. That | :10:06. | :10:13.
is over a long period. That is about double the survival rate of any | :10:14. | :10:17.
other form of business. They really are successful and vital and also | :10:18. | :10:23.
should not be forgotten that they have succeeded when other pubs have | :10:24. | :10:32.
closed. Thank you very much. A woman involved in a car crash in | :10:33. | :10:36.
Norfolk in which two children died is to be sentenced later this month. | :10:37. | :10:40.
Marie Easter was driving on the A47 near Wisbech just over a year ago | :10:41. | :10:43.
when the crash happened. Her partner's two daughters, aged seven | :10:44. | :10:46.
and ten, were killed. She has since admitted causing death by careless | :10:47. | :10:48.
driving. The novelist Elizabeth Jane Howard | :10:49. | :10:51.
has died at her home in Suffolk. Her publicist said the writer died | :10:52. | :10:54.
peacefully this afternoon at her home in Bungay. She was 90 years old | :10:55. | :10:58.
and had suffered a short illness. She was best known for the Cazalet | :10:59. | :11:01.
Chronicles, the fifth volume of which was published last summer. A | :11:02. | :11:08.
man has been charged with a New Year attack that is loved a man | :11:09. | :11:11.
critically in hospital. He suffered head injuries when he was set upon | :11:12. | :11:14.
in Queen Street in Colchester in the early hours of yesterday morning. | :11:15. | :11:19.
Alexander Turner who is homeless, has been charged with grievous | :11:20. | :11:22.
bodily harm. It's almost a month since the tidal | :11:23. | :11:26.
surge. One of the worst hit areas was St John's Road in Lowestoft. | :11:27. | :11:29.
Some people lost almost everything when their homes were flooded by | :11:30. | :11:32.
water 3ft deep. Our reporter Kevin Burch was there at the time. Today | :11:33. | :11:36.
he went back to check on the clean`up. | :11:37. | :11:39.
It feels really strange coming back here today, because the last time I | :11:40. | :11:43.
was here after the flood, this whole area was covered with swine and | :11:44. | :11:46.
sludge. There is loads of activity as people were clearing out | :11:47. | :11:50.
possessions, things that had been damaged by the flood water. Today, a | :11:51. | :11:54.
lot of people have moved out temporarily and some have gone for | :11:55. | :12:01.
good. This man is still here though. This rented house is uninhabitable | :12:02. | :12:08.
ball. Got a knock it down? Yes. It is not just damp but noisy too, with | :12:09. | :12:11.
work underway to get out neighbouring properties. Pat is | :12:12. | :12:16.
struggling to find a temporary place you can afford, so she stayed here | :12:17. | :12:19.
for Christmas. How was that? Terrible Mac. We still have the | :12:20. | :12:26.
humidifiers. The house is smelling damp and very moist, so it is not | :12:27. | :12:33.
very pleasant. Down the road, Stephen's home was also swamped. | :12:34. | :12:37.
Eventually the water ended up they are, but I caught it about there. He | :12:38. | :12:43.
spent sister `` Christmas with his sister. How long until things are | :12:44. | :12:48.
back to normal? They are saying six to eight months, but I'm not sure | :12:49. | :12:51.
that it will be that short. I think it will be more like a year. Today, | :12:52. | :12:56.
finally, there were getting their power back on. It was one small step | :12:57. | :13:02.
forward. It has proved a frustratingly slow restoration | :13:03. | :13:15.
process. Still to come. The girls from last night's football. Ronan | :13:16. | :13:20.
Parke talks to us about beating bullies. And we are with the great | :13:21. | :13:27.
animal count at Banham Zoo. 1,500 jobs are be created this year | :13:28. | :13:31.
with the opening of a second Center Parcs site in the region. It's one | :13:32. | :13:35.
of a number of developments on the business scene in 2014. Our business | :13:36. | :13:38.
correspondent Richard Bond has been looking at the prospects for this | :13:39. | :13:46.
region. New Year cheer has been lacking on | :13:47. | :13:51.
this production line ever since the recession. Jobs have gone, a shift | :13:52. | :13:56.
has been cut. This year, the workers had reason to feel perky. This event | :13:57. | :14:01.
will be launched in the spring. This will guarantee production for the | :14:02. | :14:05.
next 12 years. It's been made here since 2001. It could have turned out | :14:06. | :14:10.
so differently for one of the region's last major factories. This | :14:11. | :14:16.
model nearly went to France, but after lengthy negotiations going | :14:17. | :14:20.
right to the top of government, a decision was made to keep production | :14:21. | :14:23.
here. Huge sums have been invested in the plans, including ?40 million | :14:24. | :14:29.
in this new body shop. It will assemble the vans using the latest | :14:30. | :14:33.
robotics, and if things go well, a second shift could be added. We | :14:34. | :14:38.
anticipate that in the midst of 2015, the volume will blow up and | :14:39. | :14:44.
out guys will get two shifts. That is our prediction provided the | :14:45. | :14:47.
market will grow as anticipated. It won't be all good news in the | :14:48. | :14:51.
manufacturing sector. This factory will close in the spring with a loss | :14:52. | :14:57.
of more than 200 jobs. It was founded in the town. It's jobs have | :14:58. | :15:03.
moved to Hertfordshire. The infrastructure is badly in need of a | :15:04. | :15:10.
boost. It will get one late in the year. Work on the last stretch of | :15:11. | :15:17.
single carriageway between two more areas is being completed. Another | :15:18. | :15:21.
significant event, this time for tourism, will be the opening of the | :15:22. | :15:27.
new Center Parcs in Bedfordshire. The ?250 million project is due to | :15:28. | :15:30.
welcome its first guests in the spring. Center Parcs will inject | :15:31. | :15:35.
approximately ?20 million into the regional economy. As well as that, | :15:36. | :15:40.
we're creating many jobs, and they are permanent. 1500 jobs all year | :15:41. | :15:45.
round. We're right on the doorstep of the south`east here. Millions of | :15:46. | :15:49.
potential customers to come and enjoy our facilities at Center | :15:50. | :15:53.
Parcs. With unemployment falling and growth picking up, it could be a | :15:54. | :15:56.
good time to open a holiday park, especially one close to the | :15:57. | :16:01.
south`east. And tomorrow, our sports editor | :16:02. | :16:04.
Jonathan Park will be looking ahead to a year in sport ` in particular | :16:05. | :16:08.
the for gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games. | :16:09. | :16:10.
Lots of you will remember Ronan Parke from Britain's Got Talent. He | :16:11. | :16:14.
was the bookies' favourite to win the competition in 2011 but finished | :16:15. | :16:19.
in second place. Since then, Ronan, who's from Norfolk, has released an | :16:20. | :16:22.
album and a string of singles. His latest record, Defined, is out on | :16:23. | :16:25.
Monday and will raise money for Kidscape, the anti`bullying charity. | :16:26. | :16:30.
This afternoon I spoke to Ronan Parke and Peter Bradley from | :16:31. | :16:33.
Kidscape about the message they were hoping to get across. | :16:34. | :16:40.
I was very close with the writers who were writing the song, and I | :16:41. | :16:44.
spoke to them closely saying about my experience with bullying, which | :16:45. | :16:48.
was online after Britain's got talent. It was just name`calling | :16:49. | :16:54.
mostly on social networking sites. I think Kidscape just connected with | :16:55. | :16:58.
the song, because it is talking about not just the effect of how | :16:59. | :17:02.
people will feel about bullying, but about how they can overcome it and | :17:03. | :17:07.
not let it define you. The video is hard`hitting. Very powerful. I | :17:08. | :17:11.
suppose that is really important to actually show the kind of effects | :17:12. | :17:16.
that bullying has. Even filming it, I stood there watching it being | :17:17. | :17:20.
filmed, and it's like giving you shivers because it was so realistic. | :17:21. | :17:26.
It's very bad cases of bullying, but that they can be like, and that's | :17:27. | :17:31.
what we wanted the video to really show people. The statistics on | :17:32. | :17:35.
bullying are still pretty shocking. So many young people affected. We | :17:36. | :17:40.
have heard about cyber bullying from Ronan, but is verbal bullying still | :17:41. | :17:45.
the worst`case? In the United Kingdom, verbal bullying is the most | :17:46. | :17:49.
common form of bullying. As you've seen, cyber bullying affects so many | :17:50. | :17:54.
young people, and of course it's 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and | :17:55. | :17:58.
is an relentless. The thing about cyber bullying is that you are | :17:59. | :18:04.
one`on`one, aren't you? You're looking at something. No one else | :18:05. | :18:08.
need be around you all see what's happening. With cyber bullying, it's | :18:09. | :18:12.
the fact that it can be so ruthless, and you can't see people's reactions | :18:13. | :18:19.
to it. That's why I think it is a very bad case of bullying. All | :18:20. | :18:24.
bullying is awful, but I think cyber bullying, because you consider | :18:25. | :18:27.
reactions or see how people will deliver quick. More people are | :18:28. | :18:32.
getting tablets and phones where they are going on social networking | :18:33. | :18:35.
sites. What would you say to anyone who is being bullied? It's important | :18:36. | :18:42.
that you are from if you are being bullied, you tell a trusted adult as | :18:43. | :18:46.
soon as possible. A parent, adult friend, a teacher. By telling | :18:47. | :18:50.
someone, it can be stopped, because as we know, once it goes viral and | :18:51. | :18:56.
around the world, news travels quickly. Speed is of the essence to | :18:57. | :19:01.
stop cyber bullying. Kidscape's research shows that quite a few | :19:02. | :19:05.
parents and teachers don't know how to deal with cyber bullying. What | :19:06. | :19:09.
you think is the answer? How can they be educated? What's important | :19:10. | :19:13.
is that young people and teachers and parents work together joined up | :19:14. | :19:20.
approach. The education of cyber bullying has to be within the | :19:21. | :19:22.
curriculum and teachers need to be more aware and pass that knowledge | :19:23. | :19:27.
on to young people. You have dealt well with what happened to you. | :19:28. | :19:31.
Obviously things are going well now? I've learnt not to look at it | :19:32. | :19:35.
and just take a step back, not read the comments. But people can be | :19:36. | :19:43.
awful, but people can also be really kind, so I think I'm lucky to be | :19:44. | :19:49.
able to have people who support me, and my fans are great to me and they | :19:50. | :19:54.
really help me as well. They are so supportive. They've been supportive | :19:55. | :19:59.
about the track and what me and Kidscape are doing. I'm grateful. | :20:00. | :20:02.
Good luck to both of you. Thank you very much. | :20:03. | :20:08.
In football, we start 2014 with a number of teams battling at the | :20:09. | :20:12.
wrong end of the table. But both Ipswich and Southend were unbeaten | :20:13. | :20:14.
over Christmas. Northampton are still searching for a new manager, | :20:15. | :20:18.
while Norwich are hoping to find form. Yesterday's draw with Crystal | :20:19. | :20:21.
Palace in the Premier League means they haven't won in five games. | :20:22. | :20:24.
As Christmases go, very little to celebrate for Norwich. No wins, few | :20:25. | :20:30.
points. 2014 now all about survival. Little to cheer at Selhurst Park, a | :20:31. | :20:34.
game low on quality but high on spirits, with two teams each braced | :20:35. | :20:38.
for a fight to the death. Bradley Johnson's goal a rare moment of real | :20:39. | :20:42.
class. Johnson! Good effort, and in! | :20:43. | :20:47.
Norwich City League! Soon, the mood turned sour. One | :20:48. | :20:51.
player lucky to escape with just a booking for this, and Palace were | :20:52. | :20:55.
level shortly after. Leroy Fer's foul, a booking and a penalty scored | :20:56. | :21:01.
by Jason Puncheon. The second half all but a write`off, notable only | :21:02. | :21:04.
for Fer's second yellow, meaning he will miss Saturday's FA Cup game | :21:05. | :21:09.
with Fulham. A glance at the table shows Norwich have little breathing | :21:10. | :21:12.
space. A 6`point cushion pre`Christmas has closed to just | :21:13. | :21:15.
three over the drop zone, but one win would ease the pressure. | :21:16. | :21:16.
three over the drop zone, but Ipswich begin the year in the | :21:17. | :21:19.
play`offs upbeaten in eight, the Championship's form team. The gift | :21:20. | :21:24.
of an own goal set them on their way, but Charleston denied them | :21:25. | :21:27.
three points in injury time. Darren Ferguson has been longing for | :21:28. | :21:30.
January, with the transfer window open. Expect arrivals and departures | :21:31. | :21:35.
to reignite Peterborough's promotion push. Jack Payne's goal gave Posh | :21:36. | :21:39.
hope against Brentford making it 1`1, but the leaders once again | :21:40. | :21:41.
pulled away. It finished 3`1. The fact | :21:42. | :21:47.
Colchester's goalkeeper was man of the match at MK Dons tells its own | :21:48. | :21:51.
story. Sam Walker made a string of saves in a goalless draw. The Ewes | :21:52. | :21:55.
rode their luck. The dominant Dons couldn't find a way through. Then a | :21:56. | :21:59.
bleak picture. The Gillingham game off. Borough at bottom. The | :22:00. | :22:03.
chairman's backed Graham Westley to turn it around, but with the manager | :22:04. | :22:06.
under pressure to reduce the wage bill, there is little money to play | :22:07. | :22:09.
with. A productive Christmas for Southend. Seven points from three | :22:10. | :22:14.
games. Ryan Leonard scored late in each half to beat Portsmouth. | :22:15. | :22:17.
Northampton start the year bottom of the football league and without a | :22:18. | :22:20.
manager. We understand interviews have taken place with a small number | :22:21. | :22:24.
of applicants. Iain Dowie is the favourite. Tom Williams, BBC Look | :22:25. | :22:31.
East. There will be lots of companies | :22:32. | :22:34.
doing their stock`taking over the next few weeks. It's not much fun, | :22:35. | :22:39.
and can take time. But of course it gets a bit more interesting at a | :22:40. | :22:44.
zoo. It's not always easy, because the zoo population changes over the | :22:45. | :22:47.
course of the year, and occasionally some animals just don't want to be | :22:48. | :22:51.
counted. But we sent Mike Liggins to Banham Zoo in Norfolk to see if he | :22:52. | :22:59.
could be of any help. One two, three, four... They should | :23:00. | :23:06.
have been ten, but I can only see nine. We did have some help from | :23:07. | :23:10.
this little chap, who is keen to check out the paperwork. A stock | :23:11. | :23:18.
take happens because suits need to know what they have. We contacted | :23:19. | :23:26.
the breeding coordinators and do an update of what we've got and what | :23:27. | :23:31.
sexes. Perhaps the most important number in the ban inventory is too. | :23:32. | :23:41.
Two Siberian tiger cubs. They have been a huge draw over the summer. | :23:42. | :23:45.
They are critically endangered species, so they are important in | :23:46. | :23:49.
this breeding programme. There are thought to be less than 400 left in | :23:50. | :23:55.
the wild. There are 120 species at Banham Zoo, and over 2000 animals in | :23:56. | :24:00.
total. That number is hard to calculate because there are 1568 | :24:01. | :24:12.
cockroaches. And very friendly they are too. But not as friendly as the | :24:13. | :24:18.
lemurs. Eight Ring tailed and five red ruffs. They are very different | :24:19. | :24:24.
in character. The Red Cross, sweet as they are, they are more | :24:25. | :24:28.
temperamental. The ringtail is a very laid`back, but might `` like | :24:29. | :24:34.
most lemurs, they like food. You know that old showbiz saying about | :24:35. | :24:37.
never working with animals and children? It's true. Meerkats can | :24:38. | :24:43.
get into funny places. But one and my leg, sorry. And so can lemurs. | :24:44. | :24:49.
When it comes to doing the annual stock... Oh, God! This one had left | :24:50. | :24:56.
onto the camera. Perhaps he wanted to make sure he had been counted. | :24:57. | :25:05.
Weren't expecting that. That's brilliant. The weather. | :25:06. | :25:10.
An area of low pressure is bringing wet and windy traditions to the | :25:11. | :25:15.
south`east of the King country. It is bringing problems overnight. | :25:16. | :25:19.
Here, we get off quite lightly. There will be some rain later, but | :25:20. | :25:24.
the big feat of these low for us will be the strength of the wind as | :25:25. | :25:27.
it makes its way to the North Sea. Currently dry across the region. We | :25:28. | :25:32.
will see increasing amounts of cloud moving from the West. This fairly | :25:33. | :25:37.
narrow band of rain will battle through quickly tonight into the | :25:38. | :25:41.
early hours of tomorrow morning. We will see some clear spells behind. | :25:42. | :25:46.
Perhaps one or two showers. In terms of temperatures, they do stay mild, | :25:47. | :25:52.
five to seven Celsius. It will be windy by the end of the night. Gusts | :25:53. | :25:58.
around 45 knots per hour. We start tomorrow still quite windy. There | :25:59. | :26:02.
will be some sunshine around first thing, and some blustery showers as | :26:03. | :26:05.
well, particularly through the morning and into the early | :26:06. | :26:09.
afternoon. Tending to die away through the late afternoon, but some | :26:10. | :26:14.
sunshine out there. Certainly windy. Though speeds will pick up into the | :26:15. | :26:19.
mid`afternoon, so these are the of average speeds we can see around | :26:20. | :26:25.
2:00pm. Temperatures staying mild. 89 Celsius. The wind will make it | :26:26. | :26:30.
feel chilly. Once more, we have the chance of some 40 mile an hour gusts | :26:31. | :26:34.
through the afternoon and early part of the evening. Some showers still | :26:35. | :26:38.
around the afternoon and evening, but they will tend to fade around | :26:39. | :26:40.
with some clear spells developing later. The forecast will stay very | :26:41. | :26:46.
unsettled, so the pressure pattern for Sunday really flags up that | :26:47. | :26:50.
point. You can see the steep area of low pressure out into the Atlantic | :26:51. | :26:53.
are pushing through some strong winds across the region. Having said | :26:54. | :26:58.
that, Saturday does not look quite as windy. In fact, it may well start | :26:59. | :27:04.
wet with outbreaks of rain through morning. By afternoon, it is looking | :27:05. | :27:08.
more dry and brighter. Clearing skies for Saturday night. That will | :27:09. | :27:13.
mean there is a risk of Frost as temperatures get close to freezing. | :27:14. | :27:16.
In Sunday, will start dry and bright. Quickly turning cloudy, and | :27:17. | :27:22.
is outbreaks of rain. This area of low pressure will bring some heavy | :27:23. | :27:26.
rain for the evening on Sunday and into the overnight period. By Monday | :27:27. | :27:31.
morning, still some showers around and still unsettled. A quick | :27:32. | :27:37.
barometer check. 998 millibars. Thank you very much. That's all from | :27:38. | :27:40.
us. Have a very good evening. | :27:41. | :27:46. |
