almost 80 mph work recorded. In Devon, the storm brought 40

millimetres of Good evening, I'm Katherine Nash.

:00:00.:00:13.

First tonight, weather warnings have been issued for gale force winds and

:00:14.:00:17.

heavy downpours. Ten millimetres of rain is expected to fall overnight

:00:18.:00:21.

on already saturated ground. And wind speeds could reach up to 70

:00:22.:00:24.

miles per hour. Earlier this evening, rail passengers on Greater

:00:25.:00:27.

Anglia were warned of disruption and in Suffolk the Orwell Bridge has

:00:28.:00:32.

just closed. In a moment, we'll have the latest on the travel situation.

:00:33.:00:36.

But first, this report from John Cranston.

:00:37.:00:38.

Battling home through the rain on the A12 in Essex this evening as the

:00:39.:00:42.

storm approached. Both Queen Elizabeth Bridge over the Thames and

:00:43.:00:45.

the Orwell Bridge over Ipswich have closed as wind speeds increase. On

:00:46.:00:50.

the trains, Greater Anglia urged people to travel early.

:00:51.:00:55.

Just getting there early, first come first serve.

:00:56.:00:59.

I was meant to be going to London but I haven't gone because of the

:01:00.:01:02.

weather just in case I couldn't get back.

:01:03.:01:04.

Commuters faced lengthy delays after a man was hit by a train. In

:01:05.:01:08.

Hertfordshire, people living in Puckeridge try to dry out their

:01:09.:01:11.

homes after the last bout of flooding, hoping the latest one

:01:12.:01:16.

won't bring more. In Luton, a desperate attempt to stop the pitch

:01:17.:01:19.

getting waterlogged in the hope that tomorrow's football match can go

:01:20.:01:21.

ahead. We've had a couple of postponements

:01:22.:01:24.

through waterlogged pitches and we just want to play football so we

:01:25.:01:29.

resorted to bringing in this cover. The River Chelmer in Essex was in

:01:30.:01:33.

spate today. It seems the immediate threat is not just more water but

:01:34.:01:38.

the ferocity of those winds. Dawn Gerber is in our newsroom now.

:01:39.:01:47.

What's the latest on the trains? There hasn't been as much disruption

:01:48.:01:52.

as originally thought as many passengers took the advice and

:01:53.:01:56.

travelled home early. There will be a reduced service across parts of

:01:57.:01:59.

the network tomorrow because of the high winds. Commuters should check

:02:06.:02:09.

Operators before travelling. The police are warning people not to

:02:10.:02:19.

travel unless they have two. There are delays on the A120. Luton

:02:20.:02:28.

airport is warning of disruption and a handful of flights have been

:02:29.:02:34.

cancelled at Stansted Airport. The worst of the weather is expected

:02:35.:02:38.

from midnight tonight to 4am. The best thing is to listen to your

:02:39.:02:42.

local BBC Radio station for more information.

:02:43.:02:45.

Serial killer Joanna Dennehy appeared at Cambridge Crown Court

:02:46.:02:48.

today for the beginning of her sentencing hearing. In the dock

:02:49.:02:51.

alongside her were the three men who helped her. At one point Dennehy

:02:52.:02:55.

told the court she was not sorry for having killed three men.

:02:56.:02:58.

This was the first time Joanna Dennehy had been seen in court since

:02:59.:03:01.

she pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey last November to the three murders

:03:02.:03:04.

in Peterborough and two attempted murders in Hereford. Brought to

:03:05.:03:09.

Cambridge to record the sentencing hearing, the serial killer's

:03:10.:03:11.

barrister said his client's offending was at the high`end of the

:03:12.:03:17.

criminal scale. The court was told she accepted she acted in a volatile

:03:18.:03:21.

way from time to time and that she acknowledged that she manipulated

:03:22.:03:26.

men around her. Her barrister said it was her case that she was not in

:03:27.:03:31.

sexual relationships with the men. She stabbed to death her friend

:03:32.:03:34.

Lukasz Slaboszewski, housemate John Chapman, and landlord Kevin Lee, who

:03:35.:03:38.

she made where a black dress shortly before he died. And then

:03:39.:03:41.

unexpectedly, Joanna spoke about victim Kevin Lee. In a raised voice

:03:42.:03:48.

she said there was no sexual interference. "It is hearsay, I was

:03:49.:03:52.

quick to assault him in a dress, I did put him in a dress, it was

:03:53.:03:56.

humiliation, pure and simple. There was nothing sexual about it." Then,

:03:57.:04:02.

just as she was leaving the court in handcuffs, there was a second

:04:03.:04:06.

outburst. In the presence of her victim's relatives she said, I want

:04:07.:04:09.

to make everyone to know I'm sorry for the attempted murders but I'm

:04:10.:04:13.

not sorry for the murders. Sentencing will be later this month

:04:14.:04:21.

at the Old Bailey. An inquest jury has returned a

:04:22.:04:24.

verdict of accidental death on four men who were killed when a steel

:04:25.:04:28.

cage they were working inside collapsed on top of them. Two

:04:29.:04:31.

brothers from Suffolk Daniel and Tom Hazelton, Peter Johnson and Adam

:04:32.:04:34.

Taylor died at Claxton Engineering in Great Yarmouth three years ago.

:04:35.:04:44.

This is the steel cage which collapsed killing four men in

:04:45.:04:50.

January 2011. It was going to reinforce a concrete base for

:04:51.:04:55.

pressure testing at Claxton engineering in Great Yarmouth.

:04:56.:05:02.

Daniel and his younger brother Tom died in the accident with Peter

:05:03.:05:08.

Johnson and Adam Taylor. The men had been sub contracted from another

:05:09.:05:16.

firm. They died at the scene from traumatic asphyxia. A solicitor read

:05:17.:05:22.

out a statement on behalf of the family. We will never be able to

:05:23.:05:28.

come to terms with our devastating loss.

:05:29.:05:30.

Four men went to work that day and never came home. The evidence

:05:31.:05:35.

clearly showed that the men were conscientious and skilled workers

:05:36.:05:39.

and no concerns were raised about the work they were doing.

:05:40.:05:46.

The employer is still going but has struggled to find work.

:05:47.:05:56.

The Health and Safety Executive will now review the evidence in light of

:05:57.:06:03.

the inquest. They will decide whether criminal proceedings are

:06:04.:06:06.

appropriate and will announce its decision in due course.

:06:07.:06:12.

The judge extended his sympathy to the families of the four men. They

:06:13.:06:24.

met such an tragic and untimely death, she said.

:06:25.:06:26.

In Football, two of our teams have been in action in League One

:06:27.:06:29.

tonight. Peterborough hosted Walsall. They drew 0`0. And it was

:06:30.:06:32.

also a goalless match for Colchester against Swindon. Well, that's all

:06:33.:06:36.

from me. Time to look at the weather now with Dan.

:06:37.:06:40.

The Met office have and amber warning out. Some trees could be

:06:41.:06:55.

downed due to the dampness of the ground. Blustery showers coming in

:06:56.:07:01.

from the south`west. Temperatures are fairly mild. Saturday will be

:07:02.:07:07.

quite windy with lots of showers piling on from the south`west. There

:07:08.:07:13.

will be dry intervals but it will be quite a windy day. It will ease a

:07:14.:07:19.

little bit as we head through the day. The showers tends to fade away

:07:20.:07:27.

through the course of the evening leaving a dry night. Sunday is much

:07:28.:07:32.

and bright after a chilly night. I will leave you with the weekend

:07:33.:07:36.

summary for London. Let's go to the weather centre to get the national

:07:37.:07:45.

forecast. Our love hate relationship with the

:07:46.:07:48.

weather has become unbalanced this winter, I suspect there is not a lot

:07:49.:07:54.

of love left. Today's storm has not helped. It gave us 20 to 30

:07:55.:08:00.

millimetres of rain. Snow in the past few hours at lower levels in

:08:01.:08:03.

eastern Scotland. That should turn to rain again but the blizzards in

:08:04.:08:08.

the Scottish mountains will continue. This evening, it has

:08:09.:08:09.
