overnight storms have battered the east, disrupting travel and bringing

down power lines. There have been delays on the trains, scores of

minor roads have been blocked by fallen trees and thousands are

without power. Electricity engineers are working to reconnect some of the

10,000 homes and businesses across the East which have been left

without power. The high winds which swept in overnight brought down

hundreds of trees, including this one near Brentwood. Essex has been

the worst affected so far, with 3500 properties blacked out. At about 3am

I woke up because I heard these banging noises, about three of them.

This was obviously the tree coming down on the power line. Luckily it

went in the direction towards the field, not into anyone's house. Near

Cambridge, the Imperial War Museum, which suffered roof damage in last

month's pills, has again been hit. It is closed. This car was damaged

and a tree was blown down near Hitchin. And there's been some lucky

escapes. Two people were sitting in this car when a tree crashed onto it

in a pub car park. The pair managed to get out of the car and escaped

without a scratch. Four men have been remanded in custody until next

month, accused of murdering a rap artist in Bedford. Isaac Stone was

19 and known as Dynamite. He was stabbed to death last month. A

memorial service is being held today for a teacher from Cambridge who

died in a Russian plane crash. Donna Bull was among 50 people who died at

Kazan Airport in Tatarstan in November. The mother of two, who

worked at Bellerbys College, will be remembered at a service at Great St

Mary's church this afternoon. Onto the football today, and Ipswich's

promotion push continues at home to Blackpool. Mick McCarthy's side won

the reverse fixture 3`2 back in November. Town are three points off

the play`offs in eighth, in a fight that will go right down to the wire.

Particularly the Championship, there's a bit of quality here, if

something happens in the game, it turns it your way or their weight.

We inherited a group of players that were probably a bit low on

confidence. We've tried to instil that in them. In League One this

afternoon, Stevenage will hope to move off the bottom with a win at

Rotherham. MK Dons host Oldham. Two games last night, no goals in either

of the games involving Peterborough or Colchester. This, the closest

Posh came. Michael Bostwick's shot. It fell to Britt Assombalonga who

couldn't convert. Peterborough stay sixth. In League Two,

promotion`chasing Southend take on Exeter. Northampton, who are bottom,

head to Fleetwood looking for two wins in a row. Just got to be in the

race. People recognise we are in the race. The group we've got together,

I keep saying that because it is a talented bunch. We've just got to

turn them in a hard to beat team. In rugby, Bedford's match at Ealing

last night was called off because of the weather. In the Premiership,

Northampton, who are top of the pile, take on Worcester, who are

bottom. Although it seems the worst has

passed, we do still have a yellow weather warning in place of further

heavy rain. It will join us in the form of heavy, blustery showers. We

have a fair south`westerly breeze, but it is easing. Tonight, any

remaining showers will be blown out of the way, the wind will fall like

as we head through and the sky will clear. That will allow the

temperature to drop right down. Tomorrow, for all intents and
