A man's appeared in court today charged with murdering his former

partner in Southend. Leanne Meecham, who was 26, was found stabbed at a

flat in Westcliff nine days ago and died yesterday. 42`year`old Simon

Meecham was remanded in custody by Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

A man is under arrest after an armed siege on a housing estate in

Northampton. The area around Cardigan Close in Dallington was

sealed off for six hours last night after reports of a man brandishing a

gun. Six police units, as well as fire and ambulance crews were called

to the scene. A homeless man has appeared in court

in Suffolk accused of stealing a car after a 10`mile police chase. The

chase, involving six police cars and a helicopter, ended in a field at

Whatfield near Hadleigh. 25`year`old Jon Cook has also been charged with
