Hello, I'm Jenny Kirk. One of our region's most infamous killers has

been found dead in prison. Simon Hall was jailed for life in 2003 for

stabbing 79`year`old Joan Albert to death at her home in Suffolk. For

years he claimed he was innocent. But last year he admitted the

murder. Hall was found dead in his cell this morning. Simon Newton

joins us now from the newsroom. Simon, this was a notorious case.

Yes, largely because of Simon Hall's attempt to have his

conviction overturned. Joan Albert was seen shopping in the local

spermatic 24 hours before she was murdered. She was stabbed in her

home five times. Simon Hall was convicted of her murder in 2003

largely on friends gathered in is. He spent the next 12 years trying to

overturn that conviction. He won the backing of MPs and appeared on the

BBC's Rough Justice programme. But last year he made this dramatic

confession. The prison service said this morning that he was found in

his cell at around 5:30am this morning in an unresponsive state,

you was later pronounced dead by paramedics. There is no official

word on how he died, an investigation by the prisons

ombudsman is on its way. There has been no statement by Joan Albert's

family today. In other news two pedestrians have

died on Norfolk's roads in separate accidents.

Yesterday afternoon a woman was killed at Caister`on`Sea after a

collision involving a bus. Then last night a man died on the A146 in

Stockton after a crash involving a BMW.

Campaigners have staged a meeting in Bedford to try to get its Italian

consulate reopened. Bedford has a large Italian population and there

was anger when the consulate suddenly shut. Now an Italian MP has

flown in to meet the protestors. This Italian MP flew into Bedford to

lend his support to the campaign to reopen Italy's's consulate. The

protest march, the lobbying, the Parliamentary questions that have

happened about Bedford and Rome has become a real trailblazer, it has

become the place that other places in Europe who are having their

offices closed down and are looking to. It was the brick industry that

first attracted Italians to Bedford. Some 20,000 people have now made

Bedford their home. At the heart of the community was this consulate,

which provided advice and information and is you'd passports

until it closed last month. The passport is not just for travel, it

is for everyday life. For bank accounts, pensions. That is so

important. A new Italian government was sworn in this weekend and

campaigners say that they are confident it will now begin a review

of this closure. A new fan group for members of the

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities has been

launched at Norwich City today. Members of Proud Canaries were

invited onto the pitch at half`time, during today's match against Spurs.

Justin Fashanu's niece Amal was among those lending support. Stephen

Fry is the group's honorary president.

And in the game itself Norwich City recorded a vital home win. The

Canaries went one up against Spurs at 47 minutes with this strike from

Robert Snodgrass. And he almost scored a second. This free`kick

hitting the bar. Norwich eventually taking three points. The win leaves

them 14th. Now here with a round`up of the rest

of the weekend's action, here's Shaun Peel.

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy said that his side were beaten by Leicester

team that will win the league by 1 million miles. That leaves Ipswich

without will be Gwen and three in five points below the cut for the

play`off `` a league win in three. Posh went one off with 15 minutes

left `` one up. But a goal was disallowed as it was ruled offside.

MK dons's play`off ambitions continued. Colchester were heading

for a point at home to Preston but North end one it 2`1 thanks only to

a late own goal. Southend drew 0`0 at York. Bottom club Northampton

claimed a vital win over Hartlepool. They are still five points from

safety but their manager says that a performance like that gives them a

fighting chance for the third of the season to go.

It will stay dry overnight tonight but it will still be breezy and it

will be a brisk southerly wind. Temperatures dropping to around six

or seven degrees. Staying Mall tomorrow as well. And dry during the

daylight hours. There will be some spells of sunshine, so not a bad

looking day. It will cloud over as we head into the late afternoon with

some outbreaks of rain arriving on Monday night into Tuesday. Next week

it will be quite unsettled, showery and windy at times.
