Hello and welcome to Look East with Stewart and me.

:00:00.:00:07.

The headlines tonight from Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk:

:00:08.:00:09.

The vulnerable teenagers living in squalor

:00:10.:00:11.

after moving out of a children's home.

:00:12.:00:14.

Armed police called out in the middle

:00:15.:00:22.

of the night in Ipswich after a gunshot and an arson attack.

:00:23.:00:25.

Tesco angers beet farmers across the region

:00:26.:00:33.

by dumping their sugar in favour of imported cane sugar.

:00:34.:00:35.

And the region's top music venue plays host to

:00:36.:00:37.

hoping to hit the right note in tonight's big concert.

:00:38.:00:55.

We start tonight with some breaking news

:00:56.:00:58.

about the disappearance of Corrie McKeague.

:00:59.:00:59.

Suffolk Police have told us that a man arrested last week

:01:00.:01:04.

in connection with the inquiry will face no further action.

:01:05.:01:07.

But crucially, there has been an update

:01:08.:01:09.

which carried rubbish from Bury St Edmunds

:01:10.:01:12.

Police began a search of the landfill site

:01:13.:01:17.

In tonight's statement, they say this is now the

:01:18.:01:23.

Leigh Milner has the police statement.

:01:24.:01:26.

What are the police saying tonight, Leigh?

:01:27.:01:33.

This is a significant development. You may remember, in the early

:01:34.:01:37.

stages of the investigation police originally said that the rubbish

:01:38.:01:43.

inside the way Corey Wade 11 kilograms. Obviously, that wasn't

:01:44.:01:50.

heavy enough to include a body. Tonight, crucially, the weight

:01:51.:01:52.

supply to the investigation was incorrect. By higher...

:01:53.:02:01.

A 26-year-old man arrested By higher...

:02:02.:02:02.

The police have said, through the as part of the continuing

:02:03.:02:25.

The police have said, through the persistence of officers, the data

:02:26.:02:37.

provided was incorrect. The 11 kilos is actually more than 100 kilos.

:02:38.:02:43.

We now know the weight of the waste collection from the horseshoe

:02:44.:02:46.

on the night Corrie went missing was over 100kg, when the original

:02:47.:02:49.

information we were given indicated that this was 11kg,

:02:50.:02:51.

and this makes our search of the landfill the next logical

:02:52.:02:54.

The investigation has identified that the company who provided

:02:55.:02:58.

This could take six to ten weeks. The family are aware of the

:02:59.:03:03.

information now also. Norfolk County Council has

:03:04.:03:07.

:03:08.:03:08.

teenagers were living The 16 to 18-year-olds

:03:09.:03:13.

have recently left care. Norfolk County Council

:03:14.:03:16.

pays a company called SixteenPlus to provide

:03:17.:03:17.

accommodation for the teenagers. The deal includes

:03:18.:03:19.

advice and supervision with the aim of helping the

:03:20.:03:20.

teenagers lead independent lives. But we've uncovered allegations

:03:21.:03:23.

of serious failings and living conditions

:03:24.:03:24.

which are quite shocking. The council has now launched

:03:25.:03:27.

an urgent investigation This, the home of a 17-year-old

:03:38.:03:53.

and grime built up over time. We decided not to show the teenager

:03:54.:03:55.

to protect their family. I am just going to

crockery on the floor. And there is quite a lot of cat

faeces on the floor. Cigarette butts are

:04:04.:04:09.

trodden into the carpet. What's worrying upstairs is not just

:04:10.:04:11.

the level of mess, but also Some of them are

hanging off the wall. And then, if I show you this

it is cracked, it is off the wall, and there are bare

living at the property, who said they hadn't seen anybody

a charity for children in care She told me it's vital that those

:07:36.:07:42.

living independently get the support I think we have to remember

:07:43.:07:47.

that these are children who have had the state intervene in their lives

:07:48.:07:55.

in the most severe way because they've been removed

:07:56.:08:06.

into the state's care. And therefore they have become

:08:07.:08:08.

the States's children. And we should want, as a society,

:08:09.:08:16.

for the children to be cared for. As we would want our own

:08:17.:08:20.

children to be cared for. When you have been in the care

:08:21.:08:22.

system, I guess also you might not have had the kind of parenting

:08:23.:08:26.

in a care home, then to the kind of skills that you need

:08:27.:08:29.

to live on your own? We know children, particularly

:08:30.:08:31.

to June who live in children's So they don't have the opportunity

for a successful adult hood. And that means that they maybe

:08:41.:08:42.

don't stay to develop their cooking skills

are perhaps their The important thing is that,

:08:45.:08:46.

as a young person coming up to leave care, those discussions

:08:47.:08:50.

are happening with all the adults who work with them in support,

:08:51.:08:52.

as with the young person themselves so that, when they leave care,

we know that this puts And so we would want to see

:09:29.:09:32.

young people leaving care The law has changed quite recently

:09:33.:09:36.

so that people can stay But that doesn't apply at the moment

:09:37.:09:43.

to children's homes, does it? The Government are currently

:09:44.:09:48.

rolling out pilots, or about to begin pilots,

:09:49.:09:57.

into something called Staying Close. Which will enable young people

:09:58.:10:00.

to maintain those close relationships with the staff

:10:01.:10:02.

in the children's homes. And while we don't know

:10:03.:10:07.

what will happen from the pilots, we obviously want to see that young

:10:08.:10:11.

people are able to get the support And leaving care isn't

:10:12.:10:14.

like jumping off a cliff, and isn't something that abruptly

:10:15.:10:20.

happens to them. But actually they are able

:10:21.:10:22.

to maintain those relationships. In other news, Suffolk police issued

:10:23.:10:24.

a re-assurance today after they were called

:10:25.:10:31.

it a bit special. Will be taking part in rehearsals

:21:56.:22:16.

venue for a school music concert. Children already up on stage hair

:22:17.:22:20.

ready to go on and on in just a few minutes time. If you look at the

:22:21.:22:30.

statistics here at Snape Maltings over history, 45,000 schoolchildren

:22:31.:22:34.

have performed on the stage. 90,000 people have come here to see them.

Over the years, some of the greatest names in classical music have

:22:49.:23:01.

performed at Snape Maltings. Alongside them, since 1987 pupils

from Southwark have performed. It has become a much loved annual

event, a celebration. This is the choir from Claydon high school. I am

opportunity and something I really wanted to do. Performing at a big

venue like Snape Maltings is a great opportunity to show what we can do.

This year, a fresh challenge. Every school has to learn a new specially

commissioned 30th anniversary song -- 30th anniversary

It is called I Wage. The logistics are crazy. Some of the songs are

only hearing the song for the first time. There are six different parts

:24:21.:24:24.

to piece together in a short space of time. And then one hour on the

:24:25.:24:28.

stage to sew it altogether. Maybe talk to me tomorrow! Today is a

:24:29.:24:35.

personal milestone for the head of the county music service, Philip

Shaw, who started these causes 30 years ago. Now, teachers bringing

students here once performed themselves. Just to enjoy stepping

too. At the Norfolk- Suffolk border. The satellite picture shows why we

had the best of the sunshine. That helped temperatures up to around

nine Celsius. We could see temperatures tonight falling as low

:26:03.:26:08.

as two or three Celsius. And then, cloud thickening up and out rates of

:26:09.:26:12.

rain moving eastwards. Some of these on the heavy side. One of those

:26:13.:26:18.

nights where after the temperatures fall to around two Celsius, they

should right again with mild air. Up to seven or eight Celsius. A mild

end to the night. Tomorrowweather dependent on weather front. A

nightmare to work out how quickly it will equip tomorrow. As it stands, a

lot of cloud with further outbreaks of rain on and off throughout the

day. But by this transaction also. Probably the best of that further

12 Celsius. 13 or 14 in the sunshine. And like to wind. In the

holding onto more cloud than others. On the whole, a dry day on Thursday.

:27:11.:27:19.

Friday is looking largely cloudy with some outbreaks of many light or

:27:20.:27:24.

patchy rain. If we are going to see by this and sunshine, later on. In

:27:25.:27:33.

the weekend, the rain should clear and decent sunny spells developing.

:27:34.:27:40.

Excellent, thanks. Goodbye.
