That's all from the BBC News at Six - so it's goodbye from me - | :00:00. | :00:00.
Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
The heroes that stopped an armed man - a bin man and a care worker | :00:07. | :00:15.
wrestle a suspected carjacker to the floor. | :00:16. | :00:23.
A guy came from that red car over their with a gun in his hand, | :00:24. | :00:29.
pointing the gun at me and shouted, get out of the car. Poor adrenaline | :00:30. | :00:33.
really. Just to stop the guy is keeping. This is one of a number of | :00:34. | :00:43.
carjacking attempt what police say is the continuing organisation. | :00:44. | :00:45.
The women who will march on London in a protest over pensions. | :00:46. | :00:48.
The row over who opens and closes doors - | :00:49. | :00:50.
a union claims train bosses are trying to derail its strike. | :00:51. | :00:55.
The city centre strangled by its council - a lack of parking | :00:56. | :00:59.
is blamed as a 150-year-old family business says it's | :01:00. | :01:02.
The ding dong in Lincoln over the cathedral's missing bell. | :01:03. | :01:27.
I will have the weather forecast in a few minutes. | :01:28. | :01:33.
An elderly lady, a care worker and a bin lorry crew have been | :01:34. | :01:37.
praised as heroes for taking on an armed carjacker | :01:38. | :01:41.
Witnesses in Hedon in East Yorkshire say the man forced a driver out | :01:42. | :01:48.
of his car at gunpoint early this morning. | :01:49. | :01:52.
12 hours after the incident police are still to reveal | :01:53. | :01:57.
details of the incident, but have said a number of attempted | :01:58. | :02:01.
carjackings happened across the Hull area. | :02:02. | :02:09.
It was a dramatic start to the day on | :02:10. | :02:12.
The driver of this car was on his way to | :02:13. | :02:16.
A guy came from that red Audi over there with a gun in his hand, | :02:17. | :02:21.
I did not comply straightaway because I was in a bit | :02:22. | :02:27.
He hit the gun on the window of the car, told me | :02:28. | :02:33.
I got out of the car, moved to the back of | :02:34. | :02:37.
He couldn't drive it away because he couldn't | :02:38. | :02:41.
As he realised the car wasn't going anywhere, | :02:42. | :02:45.
he tried to get out of the car and opened the door just as this | :02:46. | :02:49.
Witnesses had reported the mild had already | :02:50. | :02:57.
The driver of the bin lorry was actually filling | :02:58. | :03:00.
in for a colleague who was away on holiday and told me about his | :03:01. | :03:03.
He's not going anywhere, sort of thing. | :03:04. | :03:08.
Let's get in front of him and he can't escape. | :03:09. | :03:11.
Then at that point when we'd stopped the vehicle, | :03:12. | :03:13.
People were dragging him out of that 4x4 and wrestling him to the ground | :03:14. | :03:18.
The binmen who thought they had seen the man brandishing a gun but still | :03:19. | :03:23.
rushed to help people who had pushed into the ground. | :03:24. | :03:25.
This care worker says she and another lady were first | :03:26. | :03:28.
Some old woman ran across and I ran across and then the next thing | :03:29. | :03:33.
I know we are all piling on him on the floor. | :03:34. | :03:36.
Everyone rallied round, everyone that was walking | :03:37. | :03:40.
Everyone jumped out, everyone was really good. | :03:41. | :03:44.
The morning's events are the talk of the town. | :03:45. | :03:46.
A lunchtime the street here was back to normal. | :03:47. | :04:07.
car window glass swept off the road but it's a morning the people | :04:08. | :04:11.
Katy is still in Hedon, how unusual is gun crime in this area? | :04:12. | :04:29.
In the past, police have said it is very rare around here but today, | :04:30. | :04:38.
quite some hours now after the event, the police still haven't | :04:39. | :04:40.
confirmed whether a gun was recovered from the scene. They | :04:41. | :04:44.
haven't confirmed the nature of the event or what has happened to the | :04:45. | :04:48.
mild behind it. In town earlier, some people said they were surprised | :04:49. | :04:53.
binmen had put themselves in harm 's way by tackling somebody they | :04:54. | :04:56.
believed had a gun in their possession. The council has hailed | :04:57. | :05:02.
the binmen as heroes. It said what they did was a shining example of | :05:03. | :05:06.
going the extra mile to help the community. It is thanks to them and | :05:07. | :05:09.
everyone involved who helped for their bravery. | :05:10. | :05:14.
Humberside Police says it's also investigating the theft | :05:15. | :05:17.
The van was found outside a pub on Hessle Road this morning. | :05:18. | :05:22.
The Royal Mail have said their worker was unharmed | :05:23. | :05:25.
and there was no mail in the vehicle at the time. | :05:26. | :05:38.
Three teenagers have been arrested after the car they were travelling | :05:39. | :05:41.
in crashed into a level crossing at Langworth, in Lincolnshire. | :05:42. | :05:43.
Police officers were following a blue Corsa, | :05:44. | :05:45.
which was thought to have been stolen and had failed | :05:46. | :05:47.
Two other teenagers who were in the car are being | :05:48. | :05:51.
treated in hospital, one is said to be in | :05:52. | :05:53.
Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner | :05:54. | :05:58.
has given his backing to a new taser stun gun. | :05:59. | :06:01.
The government has authorised police to be equipped with the more | :06:02. | :06:05.
powerful tasers which carry two stun probes instead of one, | :06:06. | :06:10.
Marc Jones welcomed the move saying it's vital officers have the right | :06:11. | :06:16.
tools to protect themselves and the public. | :06:17. | :06:20.
Thousands of women who thought they would be able to retire at 60 | :06:21. | :06:24.
are to protest in London after changes left them | :06:25. | :06:27.
waiting till they reach 66 to get the state pension. | :06:28. | :06:32.
The government says it has no plans to compensate them. | :06:33. | :06:35.
Now a campaign called Waspi is taking women from East Yorkshire | :06:36. | :06:39.
and Lincolnshire to hold a demo on budget day. | :06:40. | :06:47.
When the welfare state was created it promised a guaranteed pension | :06:48. | :06:50.
for everyone who paid National Insurance throughout | :06:51. | :06:53.
But a number of women in their 60s claim they've been short-changed | :06:54. | :06:58.
by changes to the way their state pensions are calculated. | :06:59. | :07:03.
Rosemary Jordan, a former teacher from Scunthorpe is one of them. | :07:04. | :07:07.
Somebody who is a year younger than myself has already | :07:08. | :07:09.
My sister-in-law was born in May '53, she got her state | :07:10. | :07:14.
I was born in February '54, I've got to wait another 2.5 years. | :07:15. | :07:20.
Traditionally the retirement age was 65 for men and 60 for women. | :07:21. | :07:31.
But in 1995 the Government decided the state pension age should become | :07:32. | :07:36.
equal for both men and women - this would be phased | :07:37. | :07:39.
But in 2011 it was decided to raise the state pension age again and some | :07:40. | :07:46.
women who originally thought they could retire at 60 | :07:47. | :07:48.
are now facing the prospect of working until they're 66. | :07:49. | :07:53.
For many of the women in Hull WASPI, some women actually took redundancy | :07:54. | :07:57.
and early retirement and then discovered | :07:58. | :07:59.
they were not going to get their pensions from the state. | :08:00. | :08:01.
Some of them are talking about the physical and mental strain | :08:02. | :08:05.
of carrying on working in the roles that they have been employed | :08:06. | :08:09.
in for six more years when they never thought | :08:10. | :08:12.
The Government says everyone was told about these changes, | :08:13. | :08:18.
If I had been properly informed I would have done additional | :08:19. | :08:26.
financial arrangements for my pension. | :08:27. | :08:28.
But many campaigners are determined to make their voices heard | :08:29. | :08:44.
and they are planning the biggest protest so far to coincide with | :08:45. | :08:47.
Tim will be discussing that issue and much more on this weekend's | :08:48. | :08:58.
Sunday Politics from 11am on BBC One. | :08:59. | :09:06.
A union has accused the operator of Northern train services - | :09:07. | :09:10.
The RMT union which is striking on 13 March about driver only trains | :09:11. | :09:17.
and who should close the doors, claims Arriva put up posters | :09:18. | :09:21.
Something the company has described as a simple mistake. | :09:22. | :09:26.
The RMT are not happy, we'll hear from them. | :09:27. | :09:30.
First, Leanne Brown, our Business Correspondent | :09:31. | :09:33.
This is about who opens and closes the doors. Rail operators want the | :09:34. | :09:47.
driver to do it but unions say that is dangerous. It is unsafe and not | :09:48. | :09:52.
secure and actually, it is unfair on people who are vulnerable and | :09:53. | :09:56.
disabled. A strike is planned in ten days but train operators say driver | :09:57. | :10:00.
only trains like this are part of their future. Our plans are in their | :10:01. | :10:06.
very infancy of modernisation and were incredibly disappointed that | :10:07. | :10:09.
the RMT have taken this premature action. It is an issue that has | :10:10. | :10:13.
brought misery to passengers in the south of England for almost a year | :10:14. | :10:18.
with strikes almost every month. Hundreds of thousands of passengers | :10:19. | :10:22.
have been affected and they've even taken strike action themselves. As | :10:23. | :10:28.
things soured further, there were protests outside the Department for | :10:29. | :10:35.
Transport. IMDb sorry. The BBC even staged a debate so all sides could | :10:36. | :10:41.
thrash it out. As the dispute escalates to the north, there are | :10:42. | :10:45.
claims of dirty tricks. Unions say Northern Realtor Liberty put up | :10:46. | :10:48.
posters saying the protest was off but Northern Rail admitted it was a | :10:49. | :10:51.
mistake saying unfortunately one of our stations displayed the wrong | :10:52. | :10:55.
poster which was quickly removed. The fear now the passengers is that | :10:56. | :11:00.
the dispute could become as long and bitter as the strikes that have | :11:01. | :11:02.
often paralysed the southern network. | :11:03. | :11:06.
I've been speaking to Micky Thompson from the RMT union, who represent | :11:07. | :11:09.
I asked him whether he accepted the apology from Arriva | :11:10. | :11:14.
I think it's a bit disheartening that they have taken the action they | :11:15. | :11:29.
have, saying strike action was cancelled. Mistakes do happen, don't | :11:30. | :11:33.
they? That is what they were saying. I don't know if it was intentional | :11:34. | :11:38.
or not. It is about your members jobs or is it about safety? It is | :11:39. | :11:47.
both. First of all, the priority of safety for the travelling public and | :11:48. | :11:49.
secondly, it is security for employment form an abridged going | :11:50. | :11:54.
forward. We have had driverless trains for many years. The real and | :11:55. | :11:57.
safety standards board say they are safe. You are backing a loser here? | :11:58. | :12:02.
I disagree and if you are offering to that report, but says it can be | :12:03. | :12:08.
saved if the guidelines and equipment is put in place. The | :12:09. | :12:12.
realities will not back that. The protection of the travelling public | :12:13. | :12:16.
is paramount. 70% of our network is covered by conventional King trains. | :12:17. | :12:21.
We have robot ticking over people's jobs and who we are having a | :12:22. | :12:25.
conversation about the guards on trains. Some of the trains around | :12:26. | :12:29.
here are only two carriages long. They still travel over 70 miles an | :12:30. | :12:35.
hour and could still be involved in a contingency situation. I am sure | :12:36. | :12:39.
your viewers would like to be assured that there is some geometry | :12:40. | :12:44.
and that is protecting their lives. You want a southern real type | :12:45. | :12:49.
dispute in the North? Now, let's keep it there. I am the lead officer | :12:50. | :12:55.
and I have been trying to negotiate with this employer for over two | :12:56. | :12:59.
years now and try and find an amicable resolution to this | :13:00. | :13:03.
position. The reality is, we're wanting to introduce driver control | :13:04. | :13:09.
and if we are trying to reach a common demise and negotiate a | :13:10. | :13:13.
settlement with this employer, this employer is not head to consider | :13:14. | :13:18.
anything. The public want value for money, do you think travellers would | :13:19. | :13:22.
rather have a cheaper train ticket or pay someone and have a guard? | :13:23. | :13:26.
That depends on who you ask. We will take a common-sense approach here. I | :13:27. | :13:36.
am sure everyone will not mind, knowing they are getting from A to B | :13:37. | :13:37.
in a safe manner. This was that everybody 50, 50. Is | :13:38. | :13:46.
union right about safety or is the trading company that driver only | :13:47. | :13:50.
trains are the future? Who should close the doors? Here's how to get | :13:51. | :13:51.
in touch. Still ahead tonight: The council | :13:52. | :14:18.
slammed over parking as a 150-year-old Lincoln business | :14:19. | :14:25.
says it's closing for good. And the broken bells causing | :14:26. | :14:32.
confusion in Lincoln. The weather is next. | :14:33. | :15:18.
I noticed that you tweeted you watched me while having your tea for | :15:19. | :15:24.
years. I used to watch you for years, getting on from Henry Scott. | :15:25. | :15:29.
Primary school? You had to go and spoil it, didn't you? | :15:30. | :15:36.
The headline for tomorrow on it is looking quite cloudy for sure. Rain | :15:37. | :15:40.
and Russell at first but largely a try picture. This afternoon it was | :15:41. | :15:48.
quite unsettled and that is due to a low pressure but it is starting to | :15:49. | :15:51.
clear towards the North. More weather front to come over the | :15:52. | :15:55.
weekend so it is looking quite unsettled. This is the satellite | :15:56. | :15:59.
picture from earlier, this is the cloud that brought the rain. We can | :16:00. | :16:04.
have a look at the graphics for this evening and you can see it is | :16:05. | :16:07.
starting to fragment and turn sherry in nature must it will continue to | :16:08. | :16:11.
do so through the night and we could still see a couple of heavy | :16:12. | :16:16.
outbursts. The cloud will act as a blanket and prevent temperatures | :16:17. | :16:19.
from dropping too low. Tomorrow morning, your son will arise at 40 | :16:20. | :16:21.
in the morning. Tomorrow, it will be a cloudy start. | :16:22. | :16:33.
We don't have any frost the concerned with Bill. We will see | :16:34. | :16:39.
some drizzle but that will clear, leaving us with a largely dry | :16:40. | :16:43.
afternoon. Still quite cloudy but we could see some to brighter spells | :16:44. | :16:47.
and temperatures in the sunshine. To respond so we see double figures. | :16:48. | :16:55.
The winds should be mostly lied through the course of the day | :16:56. | :16:57.
tomorrow and Sunday will be a largely dry stored. We should see | :16:58. | :17:02.
some brightness but then a weather front will creep up from the | :17:03. | :17:05.
south-west, bringing with it, very heavy rain through the course of the | :17:06. | :17:10.
day on Sunday. It will get quite blustery as well with temperatures | :17:11. | :17:14.
around eight or nine. As we make our way through to next week, we will | :17:15. | :17:17.
see changes from day to day. One of Lincoln's oldest family | :17:18. | :17:31.
businesses is closing its doors for good, blaming Brexit, | :17:32. | :17:38.
internet shopping The Ruddock's shop on the High | :17:39. | :17:42.
Street opened in its current This tour has been here in Lincoln | :17:43. | :17:59.
for 113 years. It is closing for a number of reasons, from changing | :18:00. | :18:03.
consumer habits to the fall of the pound Saint Brexit and also the | :18:04. | :18:06.
owners say issues around parking in the city centre. If Lincoln City | :18:07. | :18:12.
Council actually did have a strategy, I don't think they do, but | :18:13. | :18:20.
if they did, it wouldn't look much different from what has happened. | :18:21. | :18:24.
Lincoln City Council said they are extremely disappointed to have been | :18:25. | :18:28.
given some of the blame for this. They say they are opening a new | :18:29. | :18:32.
1,000 space car park in the city in the near future. The shop front has | :18:33. | :18:35.
been around for more than a century and a lot of people here have got | :18:36. | :18:39.
used to seeing it around. It's a real shame for a local business to | :18:40. | :18:43.
be going like that. Unfortunately it away many high-street ongoing. This | :18:44. | :18:47.
feels like it's part of Lincoln. I didn't realise. What a shame. This | :18:48. | :18:53.
business has been in the same family are former generations so the people | :18:54. | :18:56.
most disappointed today are the owners and the start. It just gets | :18:57. | :19:02.
to the point where I felt there was no alternative. One has to face the | :19:03. | :19:11.
reality of life. At least this way, we will be able to leave with our | :19:12. | :19:18.
heads held high. The owners say they will close the store by Easter so | :19:19. | :19:22.
within weeks, a shop that has been here for more than 100 years will be | :19:23. | :19:24.
no more. For a second week running, | :19:25. | :19:35.
Hull City have the chance to climb out of the Premier League's | :19:36. | :19:38.
relegation places this weekend whilst Scunthorpe United | :19:39. | :19:41.
come up against one Our Sports Reporter | :19:42. | :19:43.
Matt Dean is here. Hull City head to the current | :19:44. | :19:48.
Premier League champions Leicester City tomorrow and in the build-up | :19:49. | :19:51.
to the game, it's been revealed they're in talks with one | :19:52. | :19:54.
of their best They're keen to extend England | :19:55. | :19:56.
hopeful Harry Maguire's feature at the KCOM stadium and see | :19:57. | :20:01.
that as a priority. This weekend he is expected | :20:02. | :20:04.
to face Leicester. They beat Liverpool | :20:05. | :20:06.
on Monday after their boss's sacking but Marco Silva | :20:07. | :20:08.
isn't worried about that. Of course it is different, the | :20:09. | :20:22.
players showed our confidence because it is important and better | :20:23. | :20:28.
after the one win and it shows that they feel more comfortable during | :20:29. | :20:34.
this week doing the work but I don't see similar differences in tactical | :20:35. | :20:43.
work. Scunthorpe face their closest | :20:44. | :20:49.
promotion rival tomorrow. An automatic motion place is at stake | :20:50. | :20:54.
but they do need an upturn in form. Grimsby Town there pushing the | :20:55. | :20:57.
play-offs post again in League 2 and Lincoln City held to Aldershot | :20:58. | :21:02.
hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table. | :21:03. | :21:07.
After scoring just three tries in two games, Mark scored a hat-trick | :21:08. | :21:12.
last night in helping big Huddersfield by 48-8. Albert Kelly | :21:13. | :21:19.
also weighed in with a couple. Pleasing. To put 48 points and some | :21:20. | :21:25.
excellent tries scored there as well. This time of year, we're | :21:26. | :21:30.
trying to build truancy with the ball and hopefully tonight we will | :21:31. | :21:36.
go towards doing that and you'll see better from us against St Helens | :21:37. | :21:37.
next week. Hull Kingston Rovers play | :21:38. | :21:39.
Sheffield on Sunday, where they're leading | :21:40. | :21:41.
the Championship after If you want to follow your team this | :21:42. | :21:42.
weekend, BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire will have | :21:43. | :21:46.
commentary of all the key action. Lincoln Cathedral is having | :21:47. | :21:52.
problems with its bells. Some people have noticed a missing | :21:53. | :21:55.
dong, and have got in touch with the BBC to ask what's | :21:56. | :21:58.
going on. Lincoln Cathedral, | :21:59. | :22:05.
breathtakingly beautiful both But this building goes well | :22:06. | :22:08.
beyond looks, it also offers magnificent sound, sound | :22:09. | :22:13.
from its 20 bells spread over three For keeping you on time, it also | :22:14. | :22:19.
sounds perfect chimes every 15 I don't know whether it's | :22:20. | :22:24.
my hearing but that It sounds like a dong | :22:25. | :22:40.
hasn't dinged or So it's time to investigate | :22:41. | :22:44.
what's going on and to This is the bell here | :22:45. | :23:05.
that is supposed to be rung. What's happened is, the spring | :23:06. | :23:12.
that goes just there has actually broken | :23:13. | :23:18.
and without those springs, what happens is, | :23:19. | :23:23.
hammer hits the bell far too hard and you end up with a broken bell. | :23:24. | :23:27.
These are the cables that operate the hammer that hits the bell. | :23:28. | :23:30.
That's the faulty one of the moment, the one that's set back. | :23:31. | :23:33.
The biggest tool for the moment will be the repair | :23:34. | :23:36.
bill of ?2,000 to ?3000 but for now, to avoid disappointment, | :23:37. | :23:39.
we've filled in the gaps for you with another | :23:40. | :23:42.

going on national television tonight. | :24:06. | :24:29.
The presenters are Anne Marie Tasker and Kofi Smiles, who joins us now. | :24:30. | :24:41.
My agent said and I just said, I've got to display. I couldn't bear the | :24:42. | :24:51.
thought of somebody else playing Lady Sarah for I did. I'm really, | :24:52. | :24:55.
really glad I'm doing it first. The presenters are Anne Marie Tasker | :24:56. | :24:57.
and Kofi Smiles, who joins us now. Everybody living here knows how just | :24:58. | :25:15.

the rest of the nation to come down and join us for the next few months. | :25:20. | :25:24.
It will be looking at the hypocrite, and everything that has been going | :25:25. | :25:31.
on there. It's going to be looking at how this thing behind me, the | :25:32. | :25:36.
blade, got here and we will have a sneak peak of what is going to be | :25:37. | :25:40.
coming later on in the year which will be looking at the new Theatre | :25:41. | :25:43.
