Good evening, and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:08.:00:09.

The latest plan to boost recycling - reducing your collections

:00:10.:00:12.

I don't know where they get the cheek from, honestly.

:00:13.:00:16.

They just treat us like idiots, don't they?

:00:17.:00:18.

Particularly in the summer, the bins are full and waste in there.

:00:19.:00:21.

So, no, I'd prefer to keep it as it is.

:00:22.:00:23.

People in rural Lincolnshire say they have a right to internet

:00:24.:00:27.

that's as fast as cities, and now more villages

:00:28.:00:29.

Because we're rural doesn't mean we're in the last century, so

:00:30.:00:36.

The part-time footballers from a team you may not have heard

:00:37.:00:42.

of are now just one game away from Wembley.

:00:43.:00:48.

She's helped three generations cross the road, now Yorkshire's

:00:49.:00:51.

longest-serving lollipop lady is laying down her sign for good.

:00:52.:00:54.

are and it's windy evening out there at the moment and this is a theme

:00:55.:01:06.

for the weekend. Join me later in the programme for the details.

:01:07.:01:15.

People living in North East Lincolnshire curently

:01:16.:01:20.

have their bins emptied every week, but now they are facing

:01:21.:01:22.

the prospect of that changing to collections every

:01:23.:01:24.

The council is considering several options designed to save them money

:01:25.:01:29.

Not only would bin collections become less frequent but the bins

:01:30.:01:35.

Every Friday it is bin day in this part of Grimsby.

:01:36.:01:45.

North East Lincolnshire still has weekly refuse collections.

:01:46.:01:48.

Recycling is collected every fortnight.

:01:49.:01:51.

So nine options have now been put forward which could save hundreds

:01:52.:02:01.

The options include a fortnightly collection of both waste

:02:02.:02:07.

and recycling which would save ?430,000 a year through to one

:02:08.:02:12.

option which would see a collection of waste every three weeks,

:02:13.:02:16.

possibly even reducing the size of the bin.

:02:17.:02:19.

The options to keep things as they are now is not on the table.

:02:20.:02:27.

A number of the proposals would seek collections of the main Bean go to

:02:28.:02:34.

every three weeks. It is an idea that has not gone down well with

:02:35.:02:39.

residence. I could maybe do once a fortnight cause I live on my own.

:02:40.:02:43.

But most families, you fill your pin-up.

:02:44.:02:45.

For large families it is very difficult.

:02:46.:02:47.

Particularly in the summer, the bins are full with waste.

:02:48.:02:50.

I do not know where they get the cheek from, they just treat us

:02:51.:02:53.

I mean, it is not as if we're going to make a decision.

:02:54.:02:58.

It's right, it's always wrong, that's what annoys you.

:02:59.:03:00.

While the idea sounds drastic change some parts of the UK have already

:03:01.:03:13.

cut waste collection to such levels. Fife Council in Scotland is

:03:14.:03:16.

trialling a once a month can collection in areas. In North Wales

:03:17.:03:24.

many people have their bins emptied once a month. And in old it has

:03:25.:03:29.

changed from fortnightly to every three weeks. The disposal costs for

:03:30.:03:34.

recycling are cheaper than landfill or incident rate. By diverging waste

:03:35.:03:43.

into the recycling streams they save money on disposal, particularly

:03:44.:03:46.

landfill. But even those passionate about the environment say councils

:03:47.:03:49.

have to be realistic and supermarkets need to rethink

:03:50.:03:53.

packaging. Let's try to rethink the amount of waste we produce

:03:54.:03:58.

altogether. The council should be collecting waste from us but we

:03:59.:04:03.

should also take a responsible act towards recycling.

:04:04.:04:04.

The North East Lincolnshire Council says no decisions have yet been made

:04:05.:04:07.

and the changes will be discussed at a meeting next week.

:04:08.:04:10.

Phillip Norton, BBC Look North, Grimsby.

:04:11.:04:15.

significant savings by cutting back on the frequency of bin collections.

:04:16.:04:24.

And they hope it would lead to more recycling.

:04:25.:04:26.

We'll have some before we finish at seven, if you are quick. .

:04:27.:05:03.

Humberside Police is being held up as an example to other forces -

:05:04.:05:06.

such as Lincolnshire Police - when it comes to reforming

:05:07.:05:08.

Figures show there's been a decrease in the number of women the force has

:05:09.:05:13.

Officers say that's because they're helping them understand what's

:05:14.:05:17.

driven them to crime, rather than just convicting them.

:05:18.:05:22.

When women are empowered and they have an opportunity

:05:23.:05:24.

to work in the community, to keep those contacts

:05:25.:05:27.

with the family, the outcomes are really, really good

:05:28.:05:30.

and Humberside are a case in point of what can be achieved.

:05:31.:05:34.

These are sensible, practical, easy steps that

:05:35.:05:36.

We did pilot a similar project with men.

:05:37.:05:41.

Firstly, the volume is far, far higher, and the resources

:05:42.:05:44.

that we can actually refer them onto are fewer.

:05:45.:05:47.

The other reason is that men commit different types of offences for

:05:48.:05:51.

different types of reasons, and what we found is

:05:52.:05:53.

that the interventions that we've got through the various

:05:54.:05:59.

charities and schemes are actually more effective with women than men.

:06:00.:06:12.

A burst water pipe has been causing problems

:06:13.:06:14.

This footage shows how water sprayed meters into the air for over an hour

:06:15.:06:18.

Anglian Water says cases like this are impressive to look at but rare.

:06:19.:06:28.

People living in a Lincolnshire village have been promised

:06:29.:06:30.

super-fast broadband by the end of the year.

:06:31.:06:32.

Residents in Maltby le Marsh near Mablethorpe spoke to BBC

:06:33.:06:34.

Look North last September, about the impact slow internet

:06:35.:06:36.

The County Council says the village should be upgraded

:06:37.:06:40.

by the end of 2017 - but admits there are still thousands

:06:41.:06:43.

of homes still waiting for faster internet.

:06:44.:06:44.

For years villagers in Maltby le Marsh have struggled

:06:45.:06:49.

We filmed with parish councillor Philip Baildon last year,

:06:50.:06:55.

Since you were here last September we've had a broadband Forum.

:06:56.:07:01.

He tells me they've now been promised

:07:02.:07:03.

superfast broadband by the end of the year.

:07:04.:07:06.

At the moment most people have a speed which is lower

:07:07.:07:09.

It will make a difference to the local farmers

:07:10.:07:13.

to submit their orders, also the local caravan site

:07:14.:07:17.

in the village requires high-speed broadband for their customers.

:07:18.:07:20.

in the village requires high-speed broadband for their customers.

:07:21.:07:25.

It is great news because this constituency is going to get nearly

:07:26.:07:28.

a quarter of the new funding, which means 540 postcodes

:07:29.:07:31.

within the constituency will have superfast broadband within a year.

:07:32.:07:34.

The County Council estimates around 93% of homes and businesses

:07:35.:07:38.

in Lincolnshire should have access to superfast broadband

:07:39.:07:42.

That's just short of the Government's target of 95%.

:07:43.:07:49.

But in Mavis Enderby, near Horncastle, villagers

:07:50.:07:52.

say they'd like fast, never mind superfast broadband!

:07:53.:07:56.

We have got a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and communicating

:07:57.:08:02.

The picture is crashing all the time, the voices are broken up.

:08:03.:08:07.

Because we are rural, doesn't mean we are in the last century.

:08:08.:08:12.

We also pay the same as somebody that's in the middle of the city.

:08:13.:08:18.

The County Council says it is trying to find a solution.

:08:19.:08:26.

We think that we will probably have to look at alternative technology,

:08:27.:08:30.

which is probably going to be fixed wireless.

:08:31.:08:32.

We are looking at that at the moment.

:08:33.:08:34.

Mavis Enderby, as it sits today, sitting in that 3% that remain,

:08:35.:08:38.

unfortunately that 3% that will remain is a run of about 10,500

:08:39.:08:42.

It's not a small number but certainly we are looking

:08:43.:08:47.

But it could be more than a year before that work takes place,

:08:48.:08:54.

while the OnLincolnshire Partnership, between the Council

:08:55.:08:56.

and BT, continues to extend the county's superfast coverage.

:08:57.:08:58.

This is another story we'd like your thoughts on.

:08:59.:09:07.

If you live in a rural area, do you feel ignored or let down

:09:08.:09:10.

What impact is your broadband speed having on your

:09:11.:09:13.

just reminder of the e-mail address and text number.

:09:14.:09:24.

Thank you for getting in touch with us after health bosses revealed

:09:25.:09:27.

they definitely want to close a minor injury unit

:09:28.:09:29.

Protesters have criticised the closure and have vowed to raise

:09:30.:09:33.

Services at Withernsea and Driffield will also be downgraded.

:09:34.:09:37.

There'll be Urgent Care Centres at Beverley, Bridlington

:09:38.:09:40.

We talked about this last night on the programme and I asked for your

:09:41.:09:54.

thoughts. Thank you for all your messages.

:09:55.:09:56.

Amber from Hornsea - "As a relatively young person

:09:57.:09:58.

with long term health issues which cause me to have falls

:09:59.:10:44.

Thank you very much indeed for those.

:10:45.:10:47.

The part-time footballers who usually play to just a few dozen

:10:48.:10:59.

fans are one goal game away from Wembley. And the longest serving

:11:00.:11:06.

lollipop lady is laying down her sign for good.

:11:07.:11:10.

Tonight 's photo was taken by Maggie. Thank you for that.

:11:11.:11:31.

I'll be on radio Humberside at six o'clock. Will you be getting up?

:11:32.:11:41.

We'll all be tuned in. You probably won't be awake! The weekend is

:11:42.:11:48.

probably not as bad as we thought it was going to be. Let's have a

:11:49.:11:52.

rundown of what we are expecting. A lot of clout, although there will be

:11:53.:11:54.

a little bit of brightness tomorrow. It'll a rather windy weekend

:11:55.:12:02.

especially Sunday. The risk of rain on Sunday, a lot of uncertainty for

:12:03.:12:08.

Sunday. Parts of Yorkshire are expecting wet weather. Fairly

:12:09.:12:14.

tightly packed isobars. On Saturday I don't think will get much rain.

:12:15.:12:20.

There is a greater risk of rain on Sunday. Saturday is the better of

:12:21.:12:23.

the two. Less windy as well. A lot of clout at the moment and it is

:12:24.:12:29.

very windy, a little patchy rain, but that will tend to ease

:12:30.:12:35.

overnight. Generally cloudy, dry, windy conditions this evening with

:12:36.:12:39.

the wind easing overnight. Temperatures falling back to around

:12:40.:12:44.

seven or 8 degrees. The sun will rise at ten past six tomorrow

:12:45.:12:53.

morning. Tomorrow we are looking at fairly cloudy conditions, but with

:12:54.:12:57.

some breaks allowing brighter spells. Quite breezy but not as

:12:58.:13:03.

windy as today or Sunday. You will notice a bit of blue on the

:13:04.:13:09.

graphics, there won't be much rain tomorrow. Very light and patchy,

:13:10.:13:14.

just a few spots in the wind now and then. Generally the emphasis

:13:15.:13:17.

tomorrow for most places for most of the time will be windy. Greater risk

:13:18.:13:28.

of rain on Sunday. A lot of uncertainty, if you have any outdoor

:13:29.:13:33.

plans keep tuned over the weekend. I will have been up for about three

:13:34.:13:34.

hours I will have been up for about three

:13:35.:13:37.

hours by the time you come on the radio but will tune in. It'll help

:13:38.:13:42.

you nod off again. It always does. So that's radio

:13:43.:13:46.

Humberside tomorrow. A football club from

:13:47.:13:50.

North East Lincolnshire which began life as a boys' side less than 20

:13:51.:13:53.

years ago is on the verge Cleethorpes Town meet

:13:54.:13:56.

Bromsgrove in the second leg of the FA Vase semi final,

:13:57.:13:59.

all-square at 1-1 Our sports reporter

:14:00.:14:04.

Simon Clark is at the ground. Simon, what do think are Cleethorpes

:14:05.:14:07.

chances in this one? Well, this is uncharted territory

:14:08.:14:24.

for Cleethorpes town. They started life as you say as a boy 's team

:14:25.:14:28.

looking after the needs of youngsters in this area. Now they

:14:29.:14:35.

are on the verge of reaching the FA Vase final, it could be one of the

:14:36.:14:38.

true fairy tales of modern day football.

:14:39.:15:07.

Cleethorpes have an advantage because since Christmas they've been

:15:08.:15:09.

able to call upon the expertise of a Grimsby Town

:15:10.:15:12.

Basically, I have gone in to help with the coaching,

:15:13.:15:15.

set pieces and stuff on match days and stuff like that.

:15:16.:15:18.

The lads have basically gone and done it themselves.

:15:19.:15:20.

To be in a semifinal of a national competition,

:15:21.:15:22.

We really do want to get promoted but to be where we are,

:15:23.:15:29.

Cleethorpes Town began life 19 years ago as an under sevens side. They've

:15:30.:15:43.

only had an adult section for eight years and there average crowd is

:15:44.:15:49.

160. Nearly ten times that number will be at the semifinal here at

:15:50.:15:54.

Bradley. All over the town people have come together to help with

:15:55.:15:58.

semifinal preparation. Ladies boutique might not be the obvious

:15:59.:16:02.

place to set up a ticket office, but it happened this week. We usually

:16:03.:16:09.

know when they come through the door, the gentleman, they're looking

:16:10.:16:14.

for targets. As soon as they come in have they come in for their tickets?

:16:15.:16:20.

Cleethorpes hope to follow another team from this part of the world in

:16:21.:16:29.

claiming the Vase. It is quite a story that has gotten this far and I

:16:30.:16:33.

wonder if they can follow brick town. If they get the final in May,

:16:34.:16:37.

it could be an incredible double-header because the Vies final

:16:38.:16:44.

and the Trophy final played on same day and Lincoln city are in the

:16:45.:16:48.

Trophy semifinal. They lost again to York city this week. They have their

:16:49.:16:53.

second leg tomorrow as well and the Lincolnshire FA I'm sure rubbing

:16:54.:16:57.

their hands at the prospect of a double-header in the Vase and Trophy

:16:58.:17:00.

with Cleethorpes and Lincoln going for glory.

:17:01.:17:03.

Lincoln City also have the chance of reaching Wembley tomorrow.

:17:04.:17:05.

They play York City in the second leg of their FA Trophy semifinal.

:17:06.:17:13.

The Imps, who went out of the FA Cup to Arsenal last weekend,

:17:14.:17:16.

Theer's lot of sport on your local radio this weekend.

:17:17.:17:23.

Scunthorpe United against Oxford United is on digital.

:17:24.:17:40.

If you want to listen to Grimsby Town against

:17:41.:17:42.

Cleethorpes against Bromsgrove in the FA Vase

:17:43.:17:45.

Lincoln City's FA Trophy Semi final against York is on BBC Radio

:17:46.:17:53.

On Sunday Radio Humberside has Hull KR against the Sheffield Eagles.

:17:54.:18:09.

The Royal Shakespeare Company's The Hypocrite has been a big

:18:10.:18:11.

success with sell-out audiences and great reviews.

:18:12.:18:13.

The joint production with Hull Truck is currently

:18:14.:18:15.

But for Hull-born actor Martin Barras, it's also a huge

:18:16.:18:19.

personal achievement, marking his return to the stage just

:18:20.:18:21.

six months after a serious motorbike accident, in which he nearly died.

:18:22.:18:25.

In a moment we'll hear from Martin, but first a look

:18:26.:18:29.

His long career has seen Martin Barrass appear in some

:18:30.:18:36.

of the countries best known tv shows.

:18:37.:18:39.

Have they got any clues on the theft?

:18:40.:18:41.

And alongside serious acting roles, he's been a fixture

:18:42.:18:45.

of the York Royal Theatre Pantomime for more than 30 years.

:18:46.:18:49.

But last September he was involved in a crash on his motorbike,

:18:50.:18:52.

near Skipton in North Yorkshire, that left him with serious injuries.

:18:53.:18:55.

He spent days in intensive care and suffered two heart attacks.

:18:56.:19:02.

But just three months later he was back on his feet.

:19:03.:19:07.

I was shown a newspaper, I'd been in hospital for about a week

:19:08.:19:10.

then and it said, panto star opens his eyes.

:19:11.:19:14.

That is the most emotional thing I'd ever read.

:19:15.:19:17.

And in February he referred returned to the stage in

:19:18.:19:19.

The Hypocrite earning standing ovations at Hull Truck.

:19:20.:19:25.

I play the Lord Mayor, real tough cookie. It's a win-win situation to

:19:26.:19:35.

me because I'm in Hull where I was brought up, I really adore this

:19:36.:19:37.

city. It's a stage he's performed on many

:19:38.:19:41.

times, but after all the drama he's been through, treading the boards

:19:42.:19:45.

here this time must feel Earlier I spoke to Martin

:19:46.:19:47.

and asked him just how big this production of The Hypocrite

:19:48.:19:55.

is for Hull Truck? Well, I think it's the absolute

:19:56.:20:02.

flagship production of this Year Of A good lad, Richard Bean

:20:03.:20:04.

has written it and in his forward to it he said,

:20:05.:20:10.

"I was lucky enough in Hull" and that is

:20:11.:20:12.

exactly how I feel. The facilities, the upbringing,

:20:13.:20:15.

it's near the seaside as well. Scary doing your press night,

:20:16.:20:20.

though, wasn't it, with people like Quentin Letts sitting

:20:21.:20:23.

there staring at you? It's a bit different

:20:24.:20:26.

from it being in York. But it's great because national

:20:27.:20:28.

and local press were all gathered there, because Richard Bean

:20:29.:20:33.

has such a pedigree with One Man, Two Guvnors, which I was involved

:20:34.:20:36.

in, Up On Roof, Toast - You had this horrific accident it

:20:37.:20:41.

the autumn last year. You had two heart attacks,

:20:42.:20:46.

your heart stopped. I actually, I checked

:20:47.:20:51.

through a barrister, and he said, he has it down in writing,

:20:52.:20:54.

it says it was a "fatal" accident He said, don't worry,

:20:55.:20:59.

that's just talk speak for the fact that you did pass away

:21:00.:21:03.

twice, but you've come away even My heart stopped for

:21:04.:21:07.

about five minutes. I'm not being funny, but you are

:21:08.:21:12.

the luckiest person around. Well, at Harrogate police station -

:21:13.:21:15.

bless her, the WPC there said, "you I mean, that you're doing

:21:16.:21:18.

this and that you're Well, the RSC and the Hull Truck had

:21:19.:21:28.

to check on my health, whether I was able to run up and down stairs

:21:29.:21:34.

and hit people with pillows. If you see the play

:21:35.:21:38.

you'll know what I mean. And I do feel, I've always kept

:21:39.:21:40.

myself quite in shape, Tell me, you went to

:21:41.:21:44.

Kelvin, didn't you? What was it like in

:21:45.:21:51.

the 1970s when you said... Yes.

:21:52.:21:55.

Oh, my... It was like you might as well knit

:21:56.:21:59.

cardigans, you know? What happened was I had the choice

:22:00.:22:03.

of playing rugby, training But it so happened that

:22:04.:22:06.

our drama after-school lessons were on the same day

:22:07.:22:12.

opposite the field from where the rugby was being played,

:22:13.:22:17.

so of course I'd be there and they'd all be, like,

:22:18.:22:19.

knuckles trailing along the ground, you know, pawing at the windows

:22:20.:22:24.

there like Shaun Of The Dead. And I'd say, "Come

:22:25.:22:29.

back and join us." You are one of the country's

:22:30.:22:32.

funniest actors, a great You must have to pinch

:22:40.:22:47.

a long while ago, though I kind of remember

:22:48.:22:50.

flying through the air and everything,

:22:51.:22:53.

and taking my helmet off and saying to the driver,

:22:54.:22:55.

"Great, this is what happens when And the next thing I knew

Yorkshire Air Ambulance had saved me, Leeds General

and Julia St James's - they are all superhuman

:23:04.:23:06.

and the treatment from them on the NHS

:23:07.:23:08.

was like staying in a 5-star hotel. The hypocrite is sold out of course

:23:09.:23:12.

but it is only on for one more week. 45 years ago you could have

:23:13.:23:33.

bought a Ford Cortina for under a thousand pounds,

:23:34.:23:37.

a three bedroomed house in Hull would cost you around ?3000

and "Children of the Revolution" It was also when Margaret Cattle

:23:45.:23:46.

began her job as the crossing patrol for schoolchildren

:23:47.:23:50.

in Cottingham near Hull. Since then she's helped three

:23:51.:23:53.

generations of families cross the road safely but now Yorkshire's

:23:54.:23:56.

longest serving lollipop lady She's retiring at the end of this

:23:57.:24:03.

month, but the children who she helps say she'll

:24:04.:24:08.

be sadly missed. Since 1972, when T Rex

:24:09.:24:10.

were in the charts, this has been Margaret Cattle's daily routine,

:24:11.:24:24.

morning and afternoon. But the job she's done

:24:25.:24:28.

for most of her life, I had young children and there was a

:24:29.:24:44.

policeman crossing the road. He said does anyone want to be a crossing

:24:45.:24:49.

patrol? Next morning they came and signed me up. My friend laughed

:24:50.:24:54.

after five years and I said I'd stay longer and I'm still here.

:24:55.:24:56.

And having done the job for 45 years,

:24:57.:24:58.

she's made plenty of friends along the way.

:24:59.:25:02.

The kids of course. I've had grandparents, parents, and the

:25:03.:25:07.

children. I go through families. It's more like a family job.

:25:08.:25:11.

Everybody knows everybody. It's nice. I shall really regret leaving,

:25:12.:25:21.

but I think its time. I'm very sad cause I always, and I mean always,

:25:22.:25:27.

Cross near her. She helps you cross the road. Why is that important?

:25:28.:25:33.

Because you might get run over by an incoming car that can't see you. I

:25:34.:25:38.

am sad because she was a really nice lollipop lady. She was or was very

:25:39.:25:42.

kind. She talks to us and says how the weather is and things like that.

:25:43.:25:44.

Margaret has a few shifts before she passes on her lollipop.

:25:45.:25:47.

For for the families who've come to know and love her,

:25:48.:25:50.

Kate Sweeting, BBC Look North in Cottinghham.

:25:51.:25:59.

She's obviously been a star in Cottingham for many years but she's

:26:00.:26:09.

also our star of the night. Margaret, I'm sure you are, have a

:26:10.:26:11.

very happy and peaceful retirement. Let's get a recap of the national

:26:12.:26:12.

and regional headlines. Donald Trump is forced

of rain at times. On the subject of recycling and

:26:37.:26:52.

frequency of bin collections in North East Lincolnshire, there has

:26:53.:26:58.

been a big response. Greg is in Cleethorpes. The council are taking

:26:59.:27:03.

more money off us at but giving us less facilities. They have a duty of

care to adhere to. Polly says, it's ridiculous, the council spend

:27:09.:27:13.

amazing amounts of money on paving bricks but penny pinch on basic

services. John says, what a farce. Mike says, the suggestions that

:27:21.:27:22.

collections can be extended ridiculous and to be honest a

:27:23.:27:27.

disgrace. And finally, cut down on rubbish collections and you will end

:27:28.:27:31.

up with people fly-tipping. They already do that, says Polly. Thank

you all for love those. And for watching. Have a really good,

peaceful weekend. I'll see you on Monday at half past six.

It was the most beautiful view I've ever been through.

For one second, I was swimming on my back, and I was looking to the sky.

I was swimming across the Aegean Sea.
