The headlines from BBC Look North this Thursday night.

A narrow escape for a driver as a major storm hits our area -

Road and Rail services are disrupted as high winds

buildings crashing and walls crashing. It was quite frightening.

And backing for a Sugar Tax as concern grows about

the increasing number of overweight youngsters.

The impact of today's big storm has been felt

across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, as thousands

of homes were left without power and trees were brought down.

Strong winds of up to seventy miles per hour ripped

through the area, blocking roads and disrupting public transport.

One driver in Spalding had a lucky escape as a tree fell right

in front of his car, while another vehicle was crushed

Our reporter Jill Archbold is in Beverley, where a busy road

was brought to a standstill by a fallen tree earlier.

it was lying across this busy route into Beverley. That has been the

story of the day, countless images of trees across roads and pavements,

afternoon for emergency services who have been trying to react to this

closed to high-sided vehicles - but that closure is only advice -

the wind was strong enough to bring down a wall -

damaging a car - There was a big gust of wind

and we saw the wall crashing down. It all happened like slow motion

and then you heard this really loud We have had strong winds before

but to witness something like By late afternoon it was estimated

that nearly 5,000 properties were without power across Lincolnshire -

and as darkness fell around half of those homes

were still waiting for repairs. At seven o'clock this evening, there

were 2500 homes across Lincolnshire who were still without power. As of

tonight 1600 homes are still waiting to be reconnected. Although there

have been reports of windows blown in and people swept off their feet,

luckily it seems there haven't been any serious injuries in our region.

A motorcyclist has died following a crash in North Lincolnshire.

The 37-year-old man was travelling on Holmes Lane in Bottesford

yesterday evening when his bike came off the road.

And a 31-year-old cyclist died last night in Lincolnshire.

It was following a collision with a car on the A158

It happened at about quarter to nine.

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

A tax on sugary drinks will help to reduce the number

of overweight children in North Lincolnshire.

That's according to a leading diet expert from the area,

where more than a fifth of children leaving primary school

Families are now being given help to manage diets and lifestyles,

amid concerns the country faces a diabetes epidemic.

Our Health Correspondent Vicky Johnson has been looking at how

The soft drinks industry levy will be introduced in 2018,

allowing companies time to change their recipes.

The amount of tax will depend on the amount of sugar in the drink.

Pure fruit juices and milk-based drinks will be exempt.

The Government says it expects to raise more than half

a billion pounds from the tax in the first year alone.

Much of that will fund things like breakfast clubs and sports,
