Alan Johnson says the Government should step up measures to prevent

radicalisation in light of the Westminster terror attack.

The Prevent programme is part of the Government's counterterror

strategy and aims to stop people becoming drawn to violence.

Some in the Muslim community have described the scheme as toxic,

but Alan Johnson insists it has a vital role to play.

Obviously, it has to be the right mechanism.

There are things you can do, I don't say we got a right

But it would be perverse to have a counterterrorism strategy

that didn't include trying to prevent people being radicalised

Researchers say that more work needs to be done to assess the impact wind
