Welcome to Friday's Look North. Tonight, the hospital nursery at | :00:09. | :00:13.
the centre of a suspected E coli outbreak. Five babies have been | :00:13. | :00:19.

First tonight, the hospital day nursery at the centre of an E-coli | :00:59. | :01:06.
outbreak. Five babies have been taken ill. The nursery is at the | :01:06. | :01:08.
James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough. It has been closed | :01:08. | :01:15.
until the end of August. Our reporter joins us live. Five | :01:15. | :01:20.
children under the age of two are now suspected to have contracted | :01:20. | :01:25.
this disease. Tonight, four of them have been cared for at home, but | :01:25. | :01:29.
one has been admitted to hospital. Let me tell you about this | :01:29. | :01:34.
particular strain of E-coli. If you contracted, you can escape with | :01:34. | :01:44.
mild diarrhoea. However it can cause severe abdominal pain. It can | :01:44. | :01:48.
go on to cause serious kidney complications. 25 babies have got | :01:48. | :01:54.
diarrhoea. The tests on those 25 are yet to be returned, so we could | :01:54. | :02:00.
see the suspected cases rise further. Tell us about the nursery | :02:00. | :02:09.
involved. It has been here for 20 years, and many of the staff are | :02:09. | :02:14.
nurses and doctors. It was closed last Friday after the outbreak was | :02:14. | :02:18.
suspected, and a specialist firm was brought in to do it been clean. | :02:18. | :02:23.
It reopened on Monday but then came a further case, so they took the | :02:23. | :02:27.
decision to close it until the end of the month. They say it is a | :02:27. | :02:35.
precaution. What else is the trust saying? I spoke to the chief- | :02:35. | :02:44.
executive little earlier and he said it was very serious, but I | :02:44. | :02:49.
said is it not an embarrassment? is not an embarrassment in as much | :02:49. | :02:53.
as we do not know where the infection came from, it can come | :02:53. | :02:57.
from a whole variety of sources, good, farm animals, swimming-pool | :02:57. | :03:03.
water, a variety of places, and the problem for nurseries is if an | :03:03. | :03:08.
infected child comes in, it can be very easily transported between | :03:08. | :03:13.
children. What we have got to do is protect the children who attend | :03:13. | :03:18.
nursery and make sure they are as safe as possible and that we | :03:18. | :03:23.
restrict the potential for further spread. Obviously worrying for the | :03:23. | :03:31.
parents. What advice have they been given? For those who are clinicians, | :03:31. | :03:36.
they do not need advice, but for the rest, basic hygiene. If your | :03:36. | :03:44.
child shows signs of being ill, get to a doctor straight away. | :03:44. | :03:49.

they had no idea she was in danger. Danutcha Domagalska vanished from | :03:54. | :03:57.
the County Durham farm where she worked 13 days ago. The police | :03:57. | :04:01.
revealed there is a possible motive behind her disappearance, and she | :04:01. | :04:05.
is probably dead. Her brother was found hanged in the woods in | :04:05. | :04:12.
Wednesday. Today, flowers were placed at the cottage where the | :04:12. | :04:19.
Polish family lived. Tributes to the brother of Danutcha Domagalska, | :04:19. | :04:23.

to be grim. We are looking for the body, but if she is found elsewhere | :04:29. | :04:36.
we will know. It is fair to say these circumstances look extremely | :04:36. | :04:45.
suspicious. They do look extremely suspicious, but there are details | :04:45. | :04:53.

suggest that she was acquired mother who seemed unhappy at times. | :04:57. | :05:03.
She was a regular visitor at his Polish shop in Darlington. She was | :05:03. | :05:13.
