Welcome to Friday's Look North. In the programme tonight... An | :00:07. | :00:09.
investigation, after a second major town centre fire in a month. | :00:10. | :00:14.
A warning about the dangers of gambling from a former Newcastle | :00:15. | :00:24.
player who lost the lot. When you have earned over ?7 million in your | :00:25. | :00:27.
professional career, you should obviously not be bankrupt. | :00:28. | :00:32.
Drink to that. The Prime Minister announces a scheme to boost business | :00:33. | :00:35.
in the Tees Valley. And why festive lights in Thirsk | :00:36. | :00:39.
could be switched off in a row over an unpaid bill. | :00:40. | :00:41.
In sport, the region's most successful club is on the brink of | :00:42. | :00:44.
yet another Cup final. And in the Premier League, as | :00:45. | :00:48.
Newcastle look to build on that historic win at Old Trafford, can | :00:49. | :00:51.
Sunderland start planning the Great Escape? | :00:52. | :01:15.
It is the second major fire in a month. | :01:16. | :01:19.
Tonight as the region's fire`fighters walked out on yet | :01:20. | :01:22.
another strike, Durham Police have revealed they are treating a major | :01:23. | :01:25.
fire in Stanley town centre today as suspicious. The blaze is the second | :01:26. | :01:29.
in Front Street within a month. One fire`fighter was injured in the | :01:30. | :01:31.
incident which started early this morning. The fire is being treated | :01:32. | :01:33.
as suspicious. Another major fire in the start of | :01:34. | :01:35.
Stanley, firefighters were called this morning where they found a | :01:36. | :01:40.
severe blaze. Nine fire engines and over 40 firefighters arrived at the | :01:41. | :01:46.
scene. It is a busy street, we are trying to keep everyone is safe. A | :01:47. | :01:49.
lot of the buildings are close together, so the fire crews are | :01:50. | :01:53.
trying to make sure the fire doesn't spread into any of the other | :01:54. | :01:57.
premises, we need to protect the businesses that have not been | :01:58. | :02:04.
impacted. We are successful in doing that so far. We have taken one | :02:05. | :02:06.
firefighter to hospital with an injured leg. That happened very | :02:07. | :02:09.
early, but no members of the public have been injured. This evening, | :02:10. | :02:13.
firefighters were still at the scene. This is the third major blaze | :02:14. | :02:18.
on this street in the last few years. Five years ago, a row of | :02:19. | :02:23.
shops just here was destroyed by a blaze, and just about 500 metres | :02:24. | :02:31.
away, another major blaze. That blaze in November which started in a | :02:32. | :02:35.
Chinese takeaway destroyed a large Edwardian building, but the police | :02:36. | :02:40.
say there is no link between the fires. It is a bad blow to the area | :02:41. | :02:45.
just before Christmas. The market will continue tomorrow, and traders | :02:46. | :02:51.
remain upbeat. It should not have any impact, if anything, it could be | :02:52. | :02:54.
a positive boost, and that it will remind the local people that Stanley | :02:55. | :03:00.
is here, it is strong and they have got something they can cherish. We | :03:01. | :03:05.
will always recover, we are a very robust set of traders, there is a | :03:06. | :03:13.
lot of bad things around, but I'm sure we will bounce back. The police | :03:14. | :03:17.
are looking for information from anyone that knows anything as soon | :03:18. | :03:21.
as possible. And members of the Fire Brigades | :03:22. | :03:24.
Union are taking industrial action this evening, the fifth strike by | :03:25. | :03:28.
members since the end of September. Staff walked out at six o'clock | :03:29. | :03:31.
until ten, in a dispute over changes to pension plans and working times. | :03:32. | :03:38.
He earned millions and then lost the lot. Former Newcastle United winger | :03:39. | :03:40.
Keith Gillespie became addicted to gambling during his playing career, | :03:41. | :03:46.
and ended up bankrupt. Gillespie thinks there are others still in the | :03:47. | :03:50.
game with a hidden betting problem. Now clubs in our region are fighting | :03:51. | :03:59.
back, but is it enough? It's a cup tie. And Newcastle are | :04:00. | :04:04.
3`0 up. Yet their Irish winger is in no mood to celebrate. Because he's | :04:05. | :04:09.
backed his own team to win at that score. There's another goal, the bet | :04:10. | :04:15.
is lost. He's wishing he'd asked his team mates to slacken off. | :04:16. | :04:23.
Straightaway I was thinking about the 50 grand that could have been | :04:24. | :04:27.
coming my way, and it had slipped away. It was part of the slippery | :04:28. | :04:32.
slope by the Sun, where were chasing the big money. Keith Gillespie says | :04:33. | :04:36.
he was ignorant of football betting rules and never did it again. But he | :04:37. | :04:45.
lost millions on the horses. When you have earned | :04:46. | :04:49.
your professional career, you should not end up and cropped, obviously. I | :04:50. | :04:54.
am a classic egg sample of what's not to do. `` end up and cropped. | :04:55. | :04:58.
And E.ON player that is earning good money, they would be advised to read | :04:59. | :05:05.
about the downfall of what can happen. `` any young player that is | :05:06. | :05:09.
earning. And Keith was far from alone. Last month Michael Chopra | :05:10. | :05:13.
told a court tens of thousands of pounds were gambled in card schools | :05:14. | :05:17.
on the Magpies team coach. His debt was so bad, he later moved to | :05:18. | :05:20.
Sunderland to claim the signing on fee. He has been banned from horse | :05:21. | :05:25.
racing after a corruption enquiry in that sport. I know that for me, | :05:26. | :05:32.
gambling reflected some of the aspects of professional foot wall | :05:33. | :05:37.
for me. One minute I would be on cloud nine, the next minute, I was | :05:38. | :05:43.
lost. Things were really kind of down in the dumps. I would say that | :05:44. | :05:49.
gambling is the main kind of choice within football. Go to any football | :05:50. | :05:57.
ground and the links between gambling and the sport could hardly | :05:58. | :06:00.
be more obvious, but there is a growing awareness within foot wall | :06:01. | :06:05.
of the need to educate players of the potential dangers. `` within the | :06:06. | :06:12.
game. Here at Hartlepool, the players are lectured and advised by | :06:13. | :06:20.
a gambling charity. It is eye opening how easy you could fall into | :06:21. | :06:26.
the trap. We are taught about stuff in our game, but outside of it, | :06:27. | :06:29.
things like horse racing and stuff, we are not fully educated on that | :06:30. | :06:34.
kind of gambling, it is just the football that we would be worried | :06:35. | :06:37.
about. It makes you think about your decisions and what you would do if | :06:38. | :06:43.
you fell into that situation. For some, it is already too late, the | :06:44. | :06:47.
footballer that took on the bookies and ended up broke. | :06:48. | :06:56.
Peter is here now, now, many viewers might struggle to have sympathy with | :06:57. | :06:59.
him, because he has lost all of that money. I think this story is quite | :07:00. | :07:05.
sad, he has got all of this money, he is 20 years old, he comes to | :07:06. | :07:10.
Newcastle, he has got it made, but what he is saying is, he did not | :07:11. | :07:14.
understand the value of money, and sadly the money his talent had | :07:15. | :07:16.
earned him was squandered to gambling. The deeper worry is that | :07:17. | :07:22.
it could lead them into deeper trouble. Yes, there is something | :07:23. | :07:28.
potentially sinister, I spoke to a member of a sporting charity and I | :07:29. | :07:34.
said to him, he was a foot or, he had trouble with gambling, does that | :07:35. | :07:39.
not make you more susceptible to corruption. `` he was a football | :07:40. | :07:43.
player. He said, he was never offered any money, but he said it is | :07:44. | :07:47.
possible he could have taken the money back then, because your moral | :07:48. | :07:51.
compass becomes squandered, and that is the slippery slope we can get | :07:52. | :07:57.
into. A very frank interview. The light ack row `` thank you, Peter. | :07:58. | :08:04.
"A death that could have been prevented." The reaction from the | :08:05. | :08:12.
family of a Carlisle man who died in an industrial oven at the city's | :08:13. | :08:16.
Pirelli tyre factory. A jury at the inquest into the death of George | :08:17. | :08:19.
Falder today concluded his death in September last year was an accident. | :08:20. | :08:24.
For the family and friends of George Falder, this has been a gruelling | :08:25. | :08:27.
week. Four days of evidence into an horrific death inside an industrial | :08:28. | :08:30.
oven used in the production of tyres. What exactly happened to | :08:31. | :08:36.
48`year`old George Falder may never be known, his family accept that. | :08:37. | :08:40.
But they were sure all along that he had not killed himself, and | :08:41. | :08:44.
afterwards gave this reaction. The family would earnestly hope that | :08:45. | :08:47.
lessons can be learned from this tragedy and it will act as a wake`up | :08:48. | :08:52.
call for all employers and all involved in helping the. In this | :08:53. | :08:58.
case, the simple procedure of shining torch and putting 80 gun | :08:59. | :09:07.
check list would have prevented this door being close on a human life. `` | :09:08. | :09:20.
and putting a take on a check list. This case is still the subject of an | :09:21. | :09:25.
ongoing investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, and whether | :09:26. | :09:28.
any action is taken against the company is unclear. But the coroner | :09:29. | :09:33.
could also make recommendations that he believes will strengthen safety | :09:34. | :09:37.
in an industrial environment. In a statement, Pirelli said... "Everyone | :09:38. | :09:40.
at Pirelli extends their condolences to Mr Falder's family. The | :09:41. | :09:43.
management and staff at Pirelli are committed to ensuring high levels of | :09:44. | :09:46.
health and safety for all those working at the Company". Changes to | :09:47. | :09:51.
working practices in the department where George Falder died have now | :09:52. | :09:55.
been made. Lighting has been improved and checks must be carried | :09:56. | :09:59.
out before the door on the autoclave can be closed. | :10:00. | :10:07.
The Prime Minister visited Teesside today to seal an agreement he | :10:08. | :10:10.
believes will create thousands of jobs in the area. Under what's | :10:11. | :10:14.
called a city deal, the area's councils and business leaders will | :10:15. | :10:17.
get more powers and some funding to bring in extra investment. But as | :10:18. | :10:21.
our Political Editor reports, not everyone thinks the deal on offer is | :10:22. | :10:28.
one worth celebrating. Tetley Tea in Eaglescliffe, the | :10:29. | :10:31.
biggest manufacturer of tea bags in the world. But David Cameron arrived | :10:32. | :10:36.
at the factory with his own heady brew to offer. A deal he hopes will | :10:37. | :10:39.
create more successful Teesside businesses like this. It should | :10:40. | :10:48.
bring another 3500 jobs to Stockton, that also it will unlock millions of | :10:49. | :10:53.
investment using the waste heat in the chemicals industry to heat | :10:54. | :10:57.
homes, businesses and other premises, potentially cutting bills | :10:58. | :11:03.
by ten to 15%. It is a good, collaborative effort, a partnership | :11:04. | :11:06.
for growth either councils and the local enterprise partnerships. | :11:07. | :11:09.
Unlike the jobs of these Tetley staff though, none of the promised | :11:10. | :11:18.
posts exist as yet. We have seen ?300 million of regional growth | :11:19. | :11:23.
invested in the north`east, and we have seen figures on construction | :11:24. | :11:28.
that are encouraging. This takes time. The fact is, we have a | :11:29. | :11:32.
long`term plan to turn around the economy and need to stick to this | :11:33. | :11:36.
plan to deliver growth, jobs and investment and they may need in the | :11:37. | :11:45.
Richmond. It is not just me he needs to convince, but also the voters. | :11:46. | :11:49.
Some people say this might not happen quick enough to make a | :11:50. | :11:55.
significant affect for those on the streets. This deal does very little, | :11:56. | :12:02.
it is jammed together, there are lots of promises for tomorrow, but | :12:03. | :12:05.
they need more power to move things forward. I had expected much more. | :12:06. | :12:10.
The local authorities are working very closely together I do not know | :12:11. | :12:13.
what they will achieve that would not have been achieved anyway. Those | :12:14. | :12:18.
charged with making this deal a reality believe that jobs and | :12:19. | :12:24.
investment can be delivered. Clearly we will deliver this, commit | :12:25. | :12:27.
ourselves to deliver this, so it is right that people hold us to it. We | :12:28. | :12:31.
will have the actions we need to take, the timetable we're talking at | :12:32. | :12:36.
achieving, and I'm confident that we can achieve that. I do not want to | :12:37. | :12:42.
stand back and hope it is going to happen, I want the government is to | :12:43. | :12:50.
help to make it happen. The Prime Minister will hope that local voters | :12:51. | :12:55.
will be stirred, this factory is in a seat, a marginal seat that the | :12:56. | :13:00.
Conservatives will hope to win at the next election. | :13:01. | :13:06.
Businesses in Whitby have started to tot up the financial cost of last | :13:07. | :13:10.
week's flooding. Repair bills are estimated to be in millions of | :13:11. | :13:13.
pounds, with just one pub having to spend a quarter of a million on | :13:14. | :13:16.
refitting the property. This scene in the hotel in Whitby | :13:17. | :13:20.
last Thursday as the tide came sweeping in. As a consequence, today | :13:21. | :13:27.
everything has to go. Anything that the salt water has touched, tables, | :13:28. | :13:33.
chairs, fridges, any stock, the coolers, and eating that was on the | :13:34. | :13:41.
bottom bar. The pub only opened nine months ago after a ?6 million | :13:42. | :13:45.
refit, and they are replacing everything in the cellar and the | :13:46. | :13:48.
ground floor, and that will cost at least a quarter of ?1 million. Other | :13:49. | :13:53.
businesses around the square were badly hit also. Spec Savers lost 500 | :13:54. | :14:04.
pairs of glasses. And this charity for the disabled saw its store | :14:05. | :14:07.
flooded out and most of its wheelchair fleet lost. This is a | :14:08. | :14:16.
very busy area in summer, but in the winter, it is not as bad, but unless | :14:17. | :14:20.
we get them sorted out quickly, that could be problems in the future. The | :14:21. | :14:27.
local area has rallied round, this church hall has become the store for | :14:28. | :14:35.
lots of equipment and bedding that the locals can help themselves to. | :14:36. | :14:40.
This is what we do when things like this happen, as locals, we help each | :14:41. | :14:44.
other out. It is lovely to see the temple in together and we have met | :14:45. | :14:48.
some individuals that now would be friends for a long time. `` it is | :14:49. | :14:55.
lovely to see people pull together. The way things are looking now, it | :14:56. | :14:58.
is hard to imagine the high winds and high floods that have come by. | :14:59. | :15:03.
Plenty more to come in tonight's Look North. Why the lights could go | :15:04. | :15:11.
out on one town's Christmas celebrations. | :15:12. | :15:16.
And staying reasonably mild over the weekend, but we pay the price with | :15:17. | :15:24.
some wet and windy conditions. All of the weather details for you later | :15:25. | :15:29.
on. A couple from Chester`le`Street are | :15:30. | :15:32.
celebrating an early Christmas present after they matched six | :15:33. | :15:35.
Lottery numbers to win one and a half million pounds. David Younger | :15:36. | :15:39.
and his wife Elizabeth, who are both 59, used the same numbers that David | :15:40. | :15:43.
picked 20 years ago when the Lottery started. David handed in his notice | :15:44. | :15:48.
the following day and is looking forward to an early retirement. Why | :15:49. | :16:01.
not?! Enjoy at! `` enjoyed it. They were switched on to mark the | :16:02. | :16:04.
season of goodwill, but now traders in Thirsk fear their Xmas lights | :16:05. | :16:08.
could be switched off. They've been landed with a ?10,000 bill. The | :16:09. | :16:11.
traders can't afford to pay it and say a possible computer error could | :16:12. | :16:15.
be to blame. This contained some flashing images. | :16:16. | :16:21.
The festive lights are on, but the Christmas spirit is being dampened. | :16:22. | :16:28.
And expect to electricity bill. It normally costs ?800 for the six`week | :16:29. | :16:31.
Christmas season, but for last year's display, a bailout of the | :16:32. | :16:38.
delivered of more than ?10,000. It is thought computer mistakes are to | :16:39. | :16:42.
blame, but despite that, the lighting is in threatened with | :16:43. | :16:46.
disconnection unless it is being paid. It is a dark cloud hanging | :16:47. | :16:53.
over the town. We have excellent community spirit, we just want the | :16:54. | :16:57.
electricity company to show some Christmas spirit. The big switch on | :16:58. | :17:01.
happened at the end of November, an event that is organised by the | :17:02. | :17:05.
district business Association, but despite its members making and thus | :17:06. | :17:09.
calls to try and sort the problem, they have now been served with two | :17:10. | :17:16.
disconnection measures. `` endless calls. We have been trying to get an | :17:17. | :17:22.
answer, trying to get a reduced bill, but we cannot get one, they | :17:23. | :17:27.
say it is a computer built. According to the company, the matter | :17:28. | :17:30.
is still being investigated, but in a statement, they say that they are | :17:31. | :17:34.
working hard to resolve the issue and do not want to switch off the | :17:35. | :17:38.
Christmas lights. In the town, the patient is running thin. `` patience | :17:39. | :17:44.
is running thin. You just want to have a good celebration of | :17:45. | :17:51.
Christmas. I think, bah, humbug, to switch it off, they might find some | :17:52. | :18:00.
people change to lamp posts! For now, the lighter still on, but there | :18:01. | :18:06.
are fears that the plug may be pulled at any given time. `` these | :18:07. | :18:11.
lights are still on. Now, all of the sports news. | :18:12. | :18:21.
Starting with football now. Newcastle are on a high after | :18:22. | :18:24.
beating Manchester United at Old Trafford last week, for the first | :18:25. | :18:27.
time in more than 40 years. Tomorrow, they take on Southampton | :18:28. | :18:30.
at St James Park, with Alan Pardew's former club just one place and three | :18:31. | :18:34.
points behind the Magpies. At the other end of the table, it's crunch | :18:35. | :18:37.
time for Sunderland who're five points adrift at the bottom of the | :18:38. | :18:40.
Premier League. They're at fellow`strugglers West Ham tomorrow, | :18:41. | :18:43.
and three points is a must. Sunderland are the only team in the | :18:44. | :18:47.
league without an away win this season but West Ham aren't doing | :18:48. | :18:50.
much better. The pressure is mounting on Hammers boss Sam | :18:51. | :18:53.
Allardyce and with both teams desperate for points there'll be | :18:54. | :18:57.
plenty of anxiety at Upton Park. The game normally, it is going to be | :18:58. | :19:02.
difficult, but I am sure that for the players on the pitch, it would | :19:03. | :19:07.
be a difficult game, but we always talk about pressure and how they can | :19:08. | :19:13.
deal with that. It would be a. We will see which team is in the better | :19:14. | :19:19.
form. `` it will be a test. The Black Cats must capitalise on the | :19:20. | :19:22.
absence of key West Ham players including suspended captain Kevin | :19:23. | :19:25.
Nolan. And in a game where passion and commitment are called for Lee | :19:26. | :19:29.
Cattermole could be vital but with his poor discipline Gus Poyet must | :19:30. | :19:32.
decide whether it's worth taking the risk particularly with referee Andre | :19:33. | :19:35.
Mariner in charge who sent Cattermole off against Hull. | :19:36. | :19:42.
It is worrying when you are at the bottom, but when you are playing and | :19:43. | :19:46.
you're down to ten, there is no way you can win with what you need it is | :19:47. | :19:53.
a sure that these risks don't happen and those are there on the pitch on | :19:54. | :19:58.
Saturday. If Sunderland are to double their points tally by | :19:59. | :20:00.
Christmas victories over West Ham and Norwich are crucial. From now on | :20:01. | :20:04.
every game is a cup final, there's no longer any hiding place. I | :20:05. | :20:07.
totally agree, they are must win games. | :20:08. | :20:09.
You know what it's like when you feel you've done a good job, and you | :20:10. | :20:13.
maybe don't get the rewards you deserve. Well, while it's three | :20:14. | :20:16.
years since Alan Pardew was sacked by Southampton, the pain of that | :20:17. | :20:19.
dismissal still hurts. Yes, it does, I felt an injustice to lose my | :20:20. | :20:23.
job there. I am not the first manager to say that. I'm looking | :20:24. | :20:28.
forward to seeing some of my old players that have done brilliantly. | :20:29. | :20:33.
They were all there in the first division with me. That side of it I | :20:34. | :20:37.
look forward to seeing, but certainly, on a personal level, it | :20:38. | :20:43.
is a game I really want to win. And while last week the Magpies cashed | :20:44. | :20:47.
in on what was a good time to play Manchester United, this may also be | :20:48. | :20:51.
a good time to play Southampton. 15 million pound man, Danny Osvaldo | :20:52. | :20:54.
finally hit a bit of form, to help stop a run of three straight | :20:55. | :20:58.
defeats, but it's clear what's on Newcastle's Christmas wish`list. | :20:59. | :21:01.
Three wins in the next three games, hopefully. A couple of tough games | :21:02. | :21:07.
coming. Southampton and Crystal Palace, then still at home on Boxing | :21:08. | :21:13.
Day. Hopefully we can keep this run going that we are on. We are | :21:14. | :21:18.
obviously in good form and it is important that we do not slag off | :21:19. | :21:22.
and we keep it going. In the Championship tomorrow, the | :21:23. | :21:25.
only two Spanish coaches in English football go head`to`head, when | :21:26. | :21:27.
Middlesbrough's Aitor Karanka tries to put one over his | :21:28. | :21:29.
fellow`countryman Oscar Garcia, who's in charge of Brighton. You can | :21:30. | :21:33.
follow that one on BBC Tees, which will also have coverage on its | :21:34. | :21:36.
digital channel, of Hartlepool's trip to Cheltenham. And, also in | :21:37. | :21:39.
Legaue Two, BBC Radio York has commentary as the Minstermen travel | :21:40. | :21:42.
to Burton Albion. Carlisle have been given five and a | :21:43. | :21:46.
half thousand tickets for their FA Cup tie at Sunderland, in the New | :21:47. | :21:49.
Year. And, starting with tomorrow's important League One home game with | :21:50. | :21:52.
Tranmere, manager Graham Kavanagh wants his side to put together a | :21:53. | :21:55.
solid run over the crucial holiday period. After Christmas, you really | :21:56. | :22:05.
see who is struggling and who is going to start vying for the | :22:06. | :22:09.
play`off spots and two can jump into the top half, and I think we are in | :22:10. | :22:16.
the last category. We have coming to the Sunderland game, we need to have | :22:17. | :22:20.
confidence, but at that stage we will have played five games. | :22:21. | :22:23.
In basketball, it's an important night for Newcastle Eagles as they | :22:24. | :22:27.
aim to reach the final of the BBL Cup. Fab Flournoy's side have to | :22:28. | :22:30.
overcome a three`point deficit from the first leg of their semi final | :22:31. | :22:33.
against Sheffield Sharks, when the league's top two sides meet again at | :22:34. | :22:36.
Sports Central tonight. The winners will play Leicester Riders in the | :22:37. | :22:40.
final next month. Today is December the 13th. Friday | :22:41. | :22:47.
the 13th. Its 12 days to Christmas, and the day that many people choose | :22:48. | :22:51.
to put up their Christmas Tree. Today also marks the start of a | :22:52. | :22:54.
special Christmas Tree Festival, to light up a Tyneside community. | :22:55. | :22:57.
Hundreds are expected at the festival in Blaydon, over the | :22:58. | :23:00.
weekend. It includes music, carol singing, and lights on 40 Christmas | :23:01. | :23:02.
trees! They're officially being turned on a bit later, but Sharon | :23:03. | :23:06.
Barbour is at St Cuthbert's Church, now, for a preview. | :23:07. | :23:13.
Hello, it is looking a lot like Christmas here. More than 40 trees, | :23:14. | :23:23.
47 trees are here, and very shortly, the lights will come on and | :23:24. | :23:27.
everybody will coming to the church. What is this all about, Helen? 47 | :23:28. | :23:38.
trees, all donated by a local, or by a family loved one, it brings us all | :23:39. | :23:45.
together. We have a jazz evening tonight and then tomorrow, a | :23:46. | :23:48.
spectacular building here, this would be opened from ten until four, | :23:49. | :23:53.
free admission, come along and enjoy it with your families. Then Sunday, | :23:54. | :23:58.
there is a huge community carol service at 4pm. Adrian, you have got | :23:59. | :24:06.
a Christmas message for the viewers. Yes, simply a very happy and | :24:07. | :24:09.
peaceful Christmas from everybody here. You are going to allow me to | :24:10. | :24:17.
test the lights, a great honour. Be my guest. Hopefully I will not fall | :24:18. | :24:24.
over. Let's have the lights off, please. Don't they look beautiful? | :24:25. | :24:37.
All we need now, Carol, is a little bit of snow for Christmas. Back to | :24:38. | :24:44.
you. That is beautiful, worth waiting | :24:45. | :24:49.
for. I do not think we can promise any snow, but tomorrow will be wild? | :24:50. | :24:55.
Yes, turning blustery. This lovely view sent to us this morning. It | :24:56. | :25:07.
will stay reasonably mild, but we pay the price with windy weather and | :25:08. | :25:12.
some rain through the first part of the weekend. This evening and | :25:13. | :25:20.
overnight, as the rain clears over the North Sea, it is drier and | :25:21. | :25:26.
clearer. The wind adds up to a much cooler night then recently. Two, | :25:27. | :25:33.
three Celsius. After the patchy rain, one or two icy patches. A cold | :25:34. | :25:42.
start for tomorrow, but drier and bright in eastern areas. The cloud | :25:43. | :25:49.
comes in during the day. This is where we have the strongest winds, | :25:50. | :25:53.
on the Scottish Borders, and the rain comes in by the end of | :25:54. | :26:00.
Saturday. Quite heavy at times. The wind, how strong? 60 mph. | :26:01. | :26:05.
Essentially further north and west, that is where you have the strongest | :26:06. | :26:11.
wind. Blustery everywhere. Despite the wet and windy weather, | :26:12. | :26:18.
temperatures in double figures. This is the picture for tomorrow, wet and | :26:19. | :26:21.
windy weather, this system pulls away. A gap through Sunday with | :26:22. | :26:26.
brighter weather. A frontal system for Sunday, then showery westerly | :26:27. | :26:33.
wind flow. Some dry weather, but it will turn a bit cooler. Over the | :26:34. | :26:38.
weekend, rain spreading from the West, it will get to Cumbria first, | :26:39. | :26:43.
spread to the north`east later. Strong, gusty south to | :26:44. | :26:48.
south`westerly winds. Windy on Sunday, but drier and brighter and | :26:49. | :26:53.
temperatures dipping. Single figures on Sunday afternoon, despite the | :26:54. | :26:59.
sunshine. Temperatures slowly beginning to fall away, so we have | :27:00. | :27:04.
single figures by day, a return to overnight frost as we head through | :27:05. | :27:08.
the night. Staying windy through the early part of the week. You can keep | :27:09. | :27:19.
up`to`date on the BBC weather app. Keep up`to`date on your local BBC | :27:20. | :27:24.
Radio Ulster a share in, and keeper December weather pictures coming | :27:25. | :27:25.
into us. Thank you. Letters get festive | :27:26. | :27:42.
again, let's return to that beautiful Christmas tree Festival, | :27:43. | :27:43.
good night. | :27:44. | :27:47. |
