Good evening. Plans to cut ?6 million from

Cleveland Fire Brigade's budget could put the public at risk `

that's according to union officials who call the cuts 'dangerous'. They

say 130 jobs will be lost and Marine Fire Station will shut. Around 200

people attended a protest rally over the plans held in Middlesbrough.

The cuts it is claimed... Response time the union. Cleveland fire

brigade has had cuts for ten years now year on year. There is no way we

can keep cutting without affecting the ability to respond. The site

already has some of the highest cuts in Europe, and because of its

nuclear industries, it has the highest number of hazard sites in

the country. Are the cuts being applied fairly across the country?

The government says over the last decade there has been a 40%

reduction in call`out incidents and deaths from fire. It says Cleveland

and other fire brigades across the country need to transform themselves

to reflect the different era. A 19`year`old man has died in a

three`car crash on the Brotton Bypass. Cleveland Police said an

18`year`old woman is in a stable condition after the crash on the

A174 yesterday tea`time. A man's been arrested on suspicion of

causing death by dangerous driving. The government's being asked to

support a ?30 million plan to raise standards in North East schools.

Head teachers met business leaders this week to discuss the bid. A

similar scheme in London has seen a dramatic rise in standards. It's

hoped it could make a huge difference to the economy. If we

want to fundamentally change the North East, this is a solidly ``

absolutely critical. If we do not start somewhere, we will never

achieve it, so it will be a huge opportunity for our next generation.

BBC One. A patient who took part in trials

for a drug for multiple sclerosis in the North East says it's allowed her

to get on with her life. Katie Stanton took part in trials at the

Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. This week the drug

Tecfidera was approved for use by the European Commission.

Regular check`ups, and taking tablets on time are a way of life

for Katie Stanton. She was diagnosed with MS six years ago, and joined

clinical trials. Her attacks reduced significantly, changing her life.

The first ones I had, I was off work for three or four weeks, and now I

just have to say to them, I think I am having an attack, and they are

there straightaway with one lot of steroids and that will do me for a

week. Up until recently, if you are diagnosed with MS, but the

injections are partially effective, but the strike is more effective ``

but this drug is more effective. And the drugs watchdog NICE say they

will soon begin consultation on the use of the drug.

Football now. A bad afternoon for our Premier League sides, Newcastle

were beaten three`nil at Chelsea and Hull beat Sunderland two`nil at the

Stadium of Light. In the Championship it was goalless draw

for Middlesbrough And in League One Carlisle lost 2`1 to Gillingham. But

in League Two it was an away wind for Hartlepool with a score of

two`one against Dagenham and Redbridge and York drew nil`nil with

Cheltenham. Let's see what the weather has in
