be some rain around on Sunday. Thank That is all from

:00:00.:00:08.

Hello and welcome to Wednesday's Look North. Tonight: The Casualty

:00:09.:00:13.

actor Clive Mantle tells a court how his ear was bitten off in a

:00:14.:00:16.

Newcastle hotel. We quit! The entire governing body

:00:17.:00:24.

of a big secondary school resigns. Further management to be so

:00:25.:00:30.

dysfunctional or whatever has concerned, we don't know why this

:00:31.:00:34.

has happened, and we are very worried, as are many other parents.

:00:35.:00:38.

Stranded ` the community cut off after floods damage this bridge. And

:00:39.:00:42.

there's no prospect of repairs. And how Middlesbrough footballer Kei

:00:43.:00:46.

Kamara is doing his bit to help those experiencing the horrors of

:00:47.:00:49.

life in his homeland. In sport, a big night for Carlisle

:00:50.:00:52.

as they ease their relegation fears after not quite being sent to

:00:53.:00:58.

Coventry. And rugby's Mr Patient ` a home debut at last for Gonzalo `

:00:59.:01:02.

three months after signing for the Falcons.

:01:03.:01:12.

First tonight, the television actor Clive Mantle has been telling a jury

:01:13.:01:18.

how a large part of his ear was bitten off during an attack in a

:01:19.:01:23.

Newcastle hotel. Two men from Hamilton in Scotland have denied a

:01:24.:01:26.

charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent at the city's Crown

:01:27.:01:30.

Court. Mr Mantle, who starred in the BBC hospital drama Casualty told the

:01:31.:01:34.

court the attack was like two hyenas bringing down an old water buffalo.

:01:35.:01:44.

Jonathan Swingler has this report. The trial has heard how Clive Mantle

:01:45.:01:51.

was staying at the Hotel the 24th of March last year. The 56`year`old

:01:52.:02:01.

actor, best known in the medical drama Casualty, had been appearing

:02:02.:02:08.

at the theatre. At 4:30am in the morning, he heard shouting outside.

:02:09.:02:13.

What happened next was the series of events that ended up with his ear

:02:14.:02:20.

being cut off. He had asked the two men to be quiet. The actor denied

:02:21.:02:25.

losing his temper and that he said Will you shut up, please. The jury

:02:26.:02:33.

heard that Clive Mantle felt he was treated as a figure of fun. He said

:02:34.:02:38.

he was going to get security and he described being attacked and being

:02:39.:02:48.

attacked and being punched up to 16 times by the two men. They were very

:02:49.:02:56.

drunk, he said. The actor said it was like two hyenas bringing down a

:02:57.:03:05.

water often. Both men deny wounding with intent. The trial continues.

:03:06.:03:14.

Parents in a North Yorkshire town are demanding answers after it

:03:15.:03:18.

emerged that the entire governing body of one of the county's largest

:03:19.:03:23.

secondary schools has resigned. They say the decision of governors at

:03:24.:03:26.

Richmond School and Sixth Form to quit en masse has led to speculation

:03:27.:03:29.

and concern about what might lie behind the move. So far, none of the

:03:30.:03:33.

governors have explained why they stepped down but the council insist

:03:34.:03:36.

the education of pupils won't be affected. Our reporter Luke Walton

:03:37.:03:40.

has been speaking to people in Richmond and joins us from our

:03:41.:03:43.

Middlesbrough newsroom now. Luke, just how unusual is this kind of

:03:44.:03:47.

mass resignation and what do we know about it? It is highly unusual and

:03:48.:03:57.

even more unusual is that the governors themselves have issued no

:03:58.:04:00.

statement as to why they have decided to step down. We know that

:04:01.:04:05.

the governors make their decision to resign en masse after a meeting with

:04:06.:04:08.

council officers on Thursday. The council issued a statement, the

:04:09.:04:13.

governors have not been contactable. The council have issued

:04:14.:04:20.

a statement, though, and it said the reasons behind the resignation were

:04:21.:04:26.

confidential that no safeguarding issues were involved, in other

:04:27.:04:30.

words, there is no risk to pupils. But that message hasn't entirely

:04:31.:04:37.

reassured parents. We are very concerned for our daughter's

:04:38.:04:42.

education. For the management of the school to be so dysfunctional or

:04:43.:04:45.

whatever has occurred, we don't know what it is, we don't know why this

:04:46.:04:48.

has happened, and we are very worried, as are many other parents,

:04:49.:04:52.

and we have seen this on social media recently where parents are

:04:53.:04:58.

speculating as to what has gone on. What is particularly strange about

:04:59.:05:03.

this is that it is, on the face of it, a very successful school. That

:05:04.:05:11.

is white. It was judged a good school and gets above average exam

:05:12.:05:14.

results but there have been some grumbles. I am told there has been

:05:15.:05:20.

recent months, a reduction in the lunch break to half an hour. We

:05:21.:05:26.

don't know if that controversy was in any way linked to the

:05:27.:05:29.

resignation. What I am told is that there was a difference of it ``

:05:30.:05:35.

opinion about the direction of the school between the governing body

:05:36.:05:40.

headteacher and the governors felt that the council had come down in

:05:41.:05:44.

favour of the head, hence the decision they had no other choice

:05:45.:05:52.

but to resign. The local councillor representing Richmond says Disney's

:05:53.:05:55.

be cleared up. It is everywhere for an entirely governing body to leave.

:05:56.:06:02.

I need to understand why they have gone, from their point of view, from

:06:03.:06:06.

the school's pointedly, what brought us to this situation, so we can

:06:07.:06:11.

mention nothing like this happens again and we can guarantee that the

:06:12.:06:15.

school flourishes. Where do we go from here? Next week, I understand

:06:16.:06:22.

the school and the council will be writing to parents, saying the

:06:23.:06:25.

day`to`day education of the children and the standard of education will

:06:26.:06:29.

not be affected by any of this. They also say they will be appointing an

:06:30.:06:33.

interim executive board to take over the governorship of the school, to

:06:34.:06:37.

pave the way for the appointment of a new governing body. It'll be

:06:38.:06:41.

interesting to see how many parents volunteered to be governors until a

:06:42.:06:46.

line is put under this issue and at this moment, that seems some

:06:47.:06:50.

distance away. Structural engineers have continued

:06:51.:06:53.

to monitor homes in Ripon after a sinkhole opened up in the North

:06:54.:06:56.

Yorkshire city. Three homes had to be evacuated after a 25ft`wide

:06:57.:06:59.

sinkhole opened in Magdalens Close on Monday evening. No`one was hurt

:07:00.:07:03.

and firefighters rescued a dog from a damaged 100`year`old detached

:07:04.:07:06.

house that has developed a huge crack.

:07:07.:07:10.

Meanwhile, a flood`damaged bridge in Loftus in East Cleveland has left a

:07:11.:07:14.

small community cut off from the rest of their town. Residents on

:07:15.:07:19.

Gaskell Lane relied on the bridge to get in and out of their street, but

:07:20.:07:23.

violent flooding last year has meant it's no longer safe to use, and

:07:24.:07:26.

there's no prospect of it being repaired. Our business correspondent

:07:27.:07:32.

Ian Reeve reports. The consequence of hundreds of

:07:33.:07:35.

thousands of gallons of water rushing down this beck in East

:07:36.:07:38.

Cleveland. Pent up beneath the bridge by fallen trees, but then

:07:39.:07:43.

bursting violently free. And in its path Kath and Alan's home. Hit by a

:07:44.:07:55.

5ft`high wall of water. I was fighting to close the door.

:07:56.:07:58.

Absolutely unbelievable, the force of it. A carb parked in front was

:07:59.:08:04.

just whisked away, the power of it was unbelievable, it was higher than

:08:05.:08:10.

the date. Nobody who had been in it could have survived. Five months on

:08:11.:08:14.

and the loss adjusters are still here, assessing, examining. And the

:08:15.:08:17.

small cluster of houses here below the town of Loftus remains cut off.

:08:18.:08:20.

There's no road access, the only way out of this hidden woody dale by a

:08:21.:08:24.

long uphill hike. And the bridge, it's been discovered, belongs to one

:08:25.:08:28.

of the residents here. They can't afford to reinstate it, but then

:08:29.:08:31.

neither can Redcar and Cleveland council. For Kathryn and her

:08:32.:08:36.

neighbours, escape looks a long way off. Because the council had

:08:37.:08:45.

resurfaced it and prepared it in the past, we assumed it was their

:08:46.:08:49.

responsibility. They are now saying that one was that it owns that

:08:50.:08:54.

bridge, which were totally unaware of the time, and so they are backing

:08:55.:08:58.

off and saying it is not their responsibility. So shopping must be

:08:59.:09:00.

done with a wheelbarrow. Oil supplies for central heating have

:09:01.:09:04.

long run out. The Fire Service has made it down here though, to install

:09:05.:09:07.

extra smoke alarms. A move, residents say, that shows how much

:09:08.:09:10.

the brigade wants to avoid any incident here and not be able to

:09:11.:09:12.

reach it. Unemployment has fallen in the North

:09:13.:09:22.

East, according to the latest figures published today. The number

:09:23.:09:27.

of jobless people is down by 3,000 to 130,000. That's an unemployment

:09:28.:09:32.

rate of 10%, which remains the highest in the country. The number

:09:33.:09:36.

of people claiming job seekers allowance in Cumbria rose between

:09:37.:09:39.

December and January. There are now 6,642 claimants ` that's a rise of

:09:40.:09:44.

279. The County Council says it reflects the end of seasonal

:09:45.:09:48.

Christmas jobs. But 250 new jobs are being created at a Hartlepool

:09:49.:09:52.

shipyard. Engineers are being taken on by Heerema Fabrication Group to

:09:53.:09:56.

work on the Cygnus North Sea project, providing gas to one and a

:09:57.:09:59.

half million homes. Richard Moss joins us live from the yard now.

:10:00.:10:16.

They make some pretty big gear here. Sections of platforms for the oil

:10:17.:10:23.

and gas industry. Alan Lloyd is the director here. Good news, obviously.

:10:24.:10:28.

What do you put this affects down to? It shows you the quality of the

:10:29.:10:35.

product we reduce it is down to the people that work here. The workforce

:10:36.:10:41.

is very reliable and conscientious about the product that would produce

:10:42.:10:45.

for the marketplace. Hartlepool is an area that does need more jobs.

:10:46.:10:50.

How significant is this for the local area and what does it generate

:10:51.:10:56.

a locally? This is tremendous for the local area. The local economy

:10:57.:11:02.

will benefit from personal economy down to the local paper shop. The

:11:03.:11:08.

guys pick up milk and paper, daily. The whole infrastructure benefits.

:11:09.:11:12.

Not only the wind `` the yard, but the wider world as well. There has

:11:13.:11:21.

been a small drop in and implement in the north`east today, it is still

:11:22.:11:25.

too high, in the country, or to companies like yours need to have

:11:26.:11:31.

success and create more jobs? I think it is the food chain we are

:11:32.:11:34.

in, we are in the middle of it and the government needs to exist the

:11:35.:11:40.

expiration people in finding new fields so they can manufacture and

:11:41.:11:42.

produce the sort of project that we build. presumably, manufacturing is

:11:43.:11:50.

crucial. It is and we need the food chain to supply to the

:11:51.:11:54.

manufacturers. Without that, there is no project to build. It needs the

:11:55.:11:59.

food chain involvement from the government to make sure that

:12:00.:12:01.

exploration continues and that we can choose the sorts of projects for

:12:02.:12:06.

the North Sea. More jobs being created here, more jobs needed, and

:12:07.:12:13.

in the south east, the own planet is down to 5%, which is half as much as

:12:14.:12:18.

it is in the north`east. `` the unemployment is down.

:12:19.:12:22.

There's been gridlock in a County Durham town after a free half`term

:12:23.:12:25.

attraction pulled in hundreds of carloads of visitors. Locomotion,

:12:26.:12:27.

the National Rail Museum at Shildon, is hosting the Great Goodbye until

:12:28.:12:30.

Sunday. It's brought together all six surviving A4 class steam

:12:31.:12:33.

locomotives, including the world speed record holder, Mallard, which

:12:34.:12:36.

will return to the USA after this event. All six locos were previously

:12:37.:12:42.

at the National Rail Museum in York. Well worth seeing.

:12:43.:12:45.

His country and its people have been blighted by war and poverty. And the

:12:46.:12:49.

story of his own journey from Sierra Leone to professional football in

:12:50.:12:52.

England is itself quite remarkable. But now Middlesbrough striker Kei

:12:53.:12:55.

Kamara is doing his bit to help those still experiencing the horrors

:12:56.:12:58.

of life in his homeland. Today he went to meet one charity providing

:12:59.:13:02.

aid on the ground, in the hope of raising awareness. Bob Cooper has

:13:03.:13:16.

this report. We know him for this. But this is the environment Kei

:13:17.:13:21.

Kamara grew up in. The bloody civil war that engulfed Sierra Leone for

:13:22.:13:26.

11 years began when he was just six years old. It is tough to grow up in

:13:27.:13:32.

a war`torn country but that the same time, it may be the person I am

:13:33.:13:37.

today, put a lot more smiles on my face, made me a man today. His

:13:38.:13:45.

mother is kept to America. my mother was gone for 15, 18 years, before I

:13:46.:13:54.

found her. It is a pretty long time. It was tough, it was tough, but she

:13:55.:14:00.

did well, she would talk `` call and talk to us and send us pictures here

:14:01.:14:07.

and there. At the same time, it was pretty amazing. She kept good

:14:08.:14:11.

contact with us. When he finally got to the US, he was able to kick off

:14:12.:14:16.

his football career. Now, he is trying to help those who haven't

:14:17.:14:21.

been so lucky. Today at Middlesbrough's training ground, he

:14:22.:14:25.

met someone from his hometown who works for a charity which is doing

:14:26.:14:29.

relief work in the country with a helper funding from a Catholic aid

:14:30.:14:34.

agency. He hopes his profile will help boost donations. the fact that

:14:35.:14:41.

people have great passion for football in Sierra Leone, I think

:14:42.:14:47.

for them, he is an icon, to start off with. I think they will listen

:14:48.:14:50.

to him. You have to raise the consciousness of the people. Why are

:14:51.:14:58.

they living in such poverty stricken communities. He may have been away

:14:59.:15:04.

for a long time but Kei Kamara hasn't forgotten who his people. ``

:15:05.:15:10.

who his people are. You're watching Wednesday's Look

:15:11.:15:13.

North. Mark Tulip joins me shortly for tonight's sports news. Also

:15:14.:15:17.

still to come: Could ditching these in favour of...these really boost a

:15:18.:15:20.

city's economy by an estimated ?20 million and bring more jobs?

:15:21.:15:29.

And I will be here with a look at the weather for the next few days to

:15:30.:15:38.

come. A landowner in North Yorkshire has

:15:39.:15:41.

caused controversy by advertising a plot of land for use by a traveller

:15:42.:15:47.

family. As with most similar cases, there've been lots of local

:15:48.:15:49.

objections, and the local council rejected plans to turn the plot into

:15:50.:15:53.

a traveller site. But that decision has recently been overturned by a

:15:54.:15:56.

planning inspector on appeal, partly because there's a need for more

:15:57.:15:59.

traveller or gypsy sites in the area. So now the triumphant owner is

:16:00.:16:03.

on the look`out for a single travelling family to move in. Phil

:16:04.:16:08.

Chapman has been to see the site near Northallerton. Come on in. This

:16:09.:16:22.

is being used as you leisure site so people could have a caravan here. It

:16:23.:16:27.

is not your average estate agent sales pitch. This humble strip of

:16:28.:16:33.

land has been at the heart of a major controversy here. The

:16:34.:16:35.

landowner had wanted to build a house on a plot but then when that

:16:36.:16:39.

was refused, he switched to the travelling site idea. He didn't want

:16:40.:16:45.

to appear personally on the TV but was happy to have the estate agency

:16:46.:16:51.

take up the story on his behalf. it went to an appeal and the planning

:16:52.:16:55.

inspector said there was a need for the sites in the area, it is in a

:16:56.:17:01.

perfect situation, handy for Northallerton, on a good road, it is

:17:02.:17:05.

private, it is sustainable and he basically said yes, it is exactly

:17:06.:17:11.

what we are looking for so it has passed. The council doesn't run any

:17:12.:17:17.

travelling site itself but there are two run under the authority of

:17:18.:17:25.

another County Council nearby. Both have 16 pitches and now, after the

:17:26.:17:29.

recent appeal, there is this single family plot near Northallerton.

:17:30.:17:35.

There is a little bit of a knot in my backyard situation but the way I

:17:36.:17:37.

look at it, we are talking about human beings, they have a right to

:17:38.:17:45.

live here as much as anybody. For some neighbours living near this

:17:46.:17:47.

plot, they are more concerned about what they feel to be inconsistencies

:17:48.:17:55.

in planning decisions. Here I am looking at this with the potential

:17:56.:18:01.

business, I had an extra ?100,000 a `` a year in income and I implored

:18:02.:18:07.

`` employed staff and it was removed. It is so OK, it is

:18:08.:18:15.

unbelievable. Whatever works others might have with local planning

:18:16.:18:21.

decisions, the local authority's authority was overruled. I

:18:22.:18:24.

sympathise with the residents who are close by but we have a process

:18:25.:18:29.

to go through. There is a need for Gypsy pitches which has been

:18:30.:18:33.

identified within Hambleton and we are going some way towards this. On

:18:34.:18:38.

this particular site, it wasn't sustainable and that is the reason

:18:39.:18:43.

the planning committee refused it. The landlord went to appeal and he

:18:44.:18:47.

won it. Hence I understand the site is now being marketed for a single

:18:48.:18:55.

Gypsy pitch. Science for people on both sides of the fence, the next

:18:56.:19:02.

chapter in the story is likely to involve a travelling family moving

:19:03.:19:08.

in. It's been claimed today that

:19:09.:19:11.

Newcastle will become one of the UK's first super`connected cities

:19:12.:19:14.

within 18 months. A ?10 million scheme has been launched to install

:19:15.:19:16.

super`fast fibre broadband throughout the city, as Andrew

:19:17.:19:17.

Hartley reports. It's made to look like child's play.

:19:18.:19:27.

But this is serious business. The Go Digital Newcastle scheme launched

:19:28.:19:30.

today will cost ?10 million and boost the city's economy by millions

:19:31.:19:41.

more. Most broadband here today is delivered over copper wires. The

:19:42.:19:46.

next generation will be over fibre`optic cable which will allow

:19:47.:19:49.

much greater speed and much greater reliability. Engineers are removing

:19:50.:19:55.

answered this to be replaced by this. Fibre`optic cable, barely

:19:56.:20:02.

wider than a strand of hair and yet able to deliver information at a

:20:03.:20:04.

million times the speed. The message here is faster broadband is good

:20:05.:20:13.

news for jobs. What it is going to give us and our customers is the

:20:14.:20:17.

speed, the capacity to deal with much larger, much more capable

:20:18.:20:22.

systems. And they can serve up great stuff to their customers in turn so

:20:23.:20:27.

they can attract more this news. One in three residents in Newcastle

:20:28.:20:30.

still don't use the internet and it's hoped this will change that. We

:20:31.:20:37.

haven't even begun to see the difference it can make, the how ``

:20:38.:20:42.

how it can save money, but to do that, we need everyone online and

:20:43.:20:48.

for it not to be a minority activity. But if you live or work

:20:49.:20:52.

elsewhere, you won't be missing out. This is a national roll`out of

:20:53.:20:55.

superfast broadband which will see similar schemes up and running right

:20:56.:20:59.

round the region. Let's start with last night's

:21:00.:21:07.

football action. And a pretty satisfying evening for two of our

:21:08.:21:13.

clubs. Hartlepool picked up a hard`earned away point in their

:21:14.:21:16.

quest for a League Two play`off place. Meanwhile, Carlisle made up

:21:17.:21:19.

for lost time after the postponement of their previous game. Victory at

:21:20.:21:22.

Coventry's temporary home moves them six points clear of the League One

:21:23.:21:26.

relegation zone. Away teams aren't sent to Coventry

:21:27.:21:30.

these days. The famous Sky Blues have to play their home matches at

:21:31.:21:32.

Northampton's Sixfields ground because of a stadium dispute.

:21:33.:21:35.

Mid`table Coventry did take the lead last night, courtesy of Franck

Moussa's 14th goal of the season. Conceding a second goal would have

:21:39.:21:41.

been disastrous for the Cumbrians, just as well Jason Pickford was at

:21:42.:21:45.

his most athletic as the Carlisle defence just about held firm.

:21:46.:21:47.

Moussa's 14th goal of the season. Conceding a second goal The visitors

:21:48.:21:49.

equalised when successive lay`offs found an unmarked Liam Noble early

:21:50.:21:54.

in the second half. And the comeback was complete when Sam Byrne, on loan

:21:55.:21:57.

from Manchester United, finished in style to take Carlisle up to 14th.

:21:58.:22:03.

Hartlepool slipped a place in League Two despite a battling draw at

:22:04.:22:06.

play`off rivals Southend. Barry Corr gave the home side the lead just

:22:07.:22:10.

before half`time. And it could have been worse for Pools had keeper

:22:11.:22:13.

Scott Flinders been found wanting but a defensive blunder allowed

:22:14.:22:16.

Bradley Walker to earned a point with a long`range volley to leave

:22:17.:22:20.

his side ninth, six points off a play`off spot. It could have been

:22:21.:22:26.

worse. Last`ditch defending here. It could have been even better. But the

:22:27.:22:30.

signs are looking good for a late promotion push.

:22:31.:22:34.

Now, picture the scene. You sign an Argentina rugby union international

:22:35.:22:41.

who then immediately suffers a serious hamstring injury before he's

:22:42.:22:44.

even played a club game. Well, Gonzalo Tiesi has now played two

:22:45.:22:47.

Premiership away matches for Newcastle Falcons and on Sunday, the

:22:48.:22:49.

ex`Harlequins and London Irish centre, who's now 28, hopes to

:22:50.:22:52.

sample the Kingston Park atmosphere for the first time when league

:22:53.:23:03.

leaders Northampton come calling. All these sleek, very frustrating,

:23:04.:23:08.

having signed and knowing I was coming. `` obviously very

:23:09.:23:17.

frustrating. I have spent two months on the sidelines, working on my

:23:18.:23:20.

rehab. Fortunately, I am back playing now. Northampton are a

:23:21.:23:27.

strong side, they will play well. Obviously, we have a bit of

:23:28.:23:29.

confidence from those Games we played well, and hopefully, this

:23:30.:23:37.

time playing well, it'll be a tough game but we will post it and win it.

:23:38.:23:42.

There will be full commentary on that on BBC Newcastle.

:23:43.:23:46.

And if Gonazalo has had to be patient, what about County

:23:47.:23:49.

Durham`born bobsleigh driver John Jackson at the Winter Olympics?

:23:50.:23:52.

Britain's number one has to wait until the final weekend in Sochi for

:23:53.:23:55.

the four`man bob competition. He's just glad to be in Russia after

:23:56.:23:58.

snapping his achilles in pre`season ` requiring pioneering surgery `

:23:59.:24:01.

and, of course, four years ago in Vancouver, his Olympic chances were

:24:02.:24:04.

derailed by this crash. So, how's the 36`year`old feeling three days

:24:05.:24:12.

ahead of competing? Qualifying for an Olympic Games is a major thing in

:24:13.:24:16.

itself but with the injury that I have had and only being selected for

:24:17.:24:22.

the team exactly six months after my operation, I know I can hold my head

:24:23.:24:28.

up high and I have achieved something special, no matter what

:24:29.:24:33.

results we get. Good luck to John and the lads. Right, time for the

:24:34.:24:40.

weather. It was quite nice but while today but these things have a habit

:24:41.:24:46.

of not lasting. Give us the worst. Well, things are going to turn for

:24:47.:24:49.

the worst overnight tonight but first, a clear night behind us. The

:24:50.:24:55.

Angel of the North and Star trails, thank you to Christian took this

:24:56.:25:03.

picture. The night, no stars in the sky, rain, but it will be mild, no

:25:04.:25:09.

chance of frost, temperatures do not drop love enough. `` love enough. It

:25:10.:25:17.

will be misty across the region. Temperatures falling no lower than

:25:18.:25:25.

six to five Celsius for most spots. Notice the brisk breezes from the

:25:26.:25:29.

South West which starts to pick up overnight. More showers through the

:25:30.:25:35.

morning rush hour but they will start to become more patchy and

:25:36.:25:39.

light. Sunshine breaks out from North Yorkshire, in particular, the

:25:40.:25:42.

North Yorkshire coast best favoured tomorrow and late on `` later run.

:25:43.:25:51.

The temperatures will go higher than today through the afternoon. The

:25:52.:25:55.

highest today was nine Celsius, so feeling particularly mild. But

:25:56.:26:00.

tempered just a little bit by the brisk south`westerly winds which

:26:01.:26:05.

continued his great strong just across the region, the gusts lasting

:26:06.:26:09.

a few seconds could be even stronger. Sunshine for the Cumbrian

:26:10.:26:13.

coast and a fine afternoon here as well. We leave the details seen

:26:14.:26:17.

there. Let's have another big picture. Thursday tea`time, the area

:26:18.:26:23.

of low pressure sweeps away to the east, but there is another way ``

:26:24.:26:29.

another one behind it. Friday Saturday, some showers. Notice the

:26:30.:26:33.

isobars taxis wheezed, strong winds, and on Sunday, things turn

:26:34.:26:38.

wet once again, generally from the west, but for the East as well as in

:26:39.:26:44.

Cumbria. What does that mean for the detail? Let's take a look at the

:26:45.:26:48.

picture across the north`east. Too bad on Friday and Saturday. White

:26:49.:26:55.

cloudy at times. All the while, it is likely to be breezy. And it is

:26:56.:26:59.

the West that we are expecting to see the worst of the showers in

:27:00.:27:03.

through Friday and Saturday, heavy at times, ready hammering down

:27:04.:27:07.

through Friday and on Sunday, everywhere is likely to be wet and

:27:08.:27:12.

windy, still, so low`pressure continuing to dominate this winter.

:27:13.:27:17.

Thanks Hannah. Now for a last look at tonight's headlines: At least 26

:27:18.:27:20.

people have been killed in violent clashes between protesters and

:27:21.:27:23.

police in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.

:27:24.:27:25.

Here, the Casualty actor Clive Mantle has described in court the

:27:26.:27:28.

moment he was attacked in a hotel and part of his ear was bitten off.

:27:29.:27:37.

That is it from us tonight. We are back with a late news at 10:25pm.

:27:38.:27:42.

Until then, have a good evening, goodbye. Goodbye.
