medal table. They were not short of offers from hosts, but one place

had the edge. Yorkshire people, these people have a positive

attitude and a warm personality and also are supportive. You will see

action from the city council. Sports Centre at the University

will host table-tennis, fencing and type 1 Dekker competitors and four

other teams will warm up for the Games in Yorkshire. Yorkshire has

more training team signed up than London. 15 months ago we were at

the bottom of the national league table and now we are the top. We

are thrilled about that and it reflects the hard work we have put

in. For children like the ones taking part in this summer camp,

the deal with China means the chance to watch some of the best

athletes prepare for the biggest competition in the world.

I would love to learn how to play table tennis better. The same,

really. I want to know how to play table tennis better because I am

Some sad news now, at champion cyclist Ray Eden died when he

stepped in to stop a couple who were fighting outside his home. He

stepped in, but was then punched once and he smashed his head on the

ground and died three days later. Today his attacker, Luke Jolly,

were sentenced to four years and nine months. Ray's widow has spoken

exclusively to our Correspondent. I just wanted him to look me in the

face and realise what he has done and how he devastated the family.

Ray and Gayle were happily married for 14 years, but Ray was too

tragically lose his life at the age of 42. It was breakfast time in

this suburban Doncaster on 18th March. Ray Eden witnessed his

neighbour, Luke Jolly, having a row with his girlfriend. Mr Eden tried

to intervene and Luke Jolly punched him to the ground where he hit his

head. He died from his injuries in hospital three days later.

Widow Gale was in court today with family and friends to see Luke

Jolly showing no remorse for what he had done. Luke Jolly was jailed

for four years and nine months. has shown no remorse all the way

through. I know they tried to make out that he went back to help my

husband, he actually went back shook him and dropped him again. He

is a coward. You would not do that to another human being, I would not

do it to a dog or anybody. He is a coward. To lie about what happened

and say it was self-defence is another way of showing he is a

coward. He can't take responsibility for his own actions.

It has left a huge hole, it really has. Nothing will replace that huge

hold and I just live day-to-day trying to get by a and I have the

happy memories, the good memories. He would stop and help anybody and

unfortunately this time he made a decision that ended his life.

Later on tonight's Look North, defying his doctors, meet Oscar -

that toddler defying expectations that he would never see or hear.

Today police released CCTV images of disturbances which happened in

Leeds earlier this week. In total, 28 arrests have now been made

across Yorkshire. Despite the tension, our towns and

cities have experience fewer problems than elsewhere. As the

government seeks explanations, should they looked to Yorkshire far

this week when Chapeltown could have stepped back to the 1980s. An

area with a troubled past that spent 30 years trying to shed that

reputation. Two shootings between youth's led to a tense few night.

from the Chapeltown riots of 1971. This time similar scenes were

prevented. We are not completely out of the woods yet. At. I was

hard work we have put in with the community and the understanding

that people have with the community. They have come together to send a

positive signal out that this is not the way forward. As London was

being mooted, adults in Chapeltown took to the streets to keep things

calm. I would like to give a real compliment to the people working

hard as Community mediators. They presented themselves and we have an

ongoing relationship with them and they have been on the streets

working as hard as we have. What do we want, peace. When do we want it,

now. We put together a peace to the jaw talking to local people.

Working with the community to work pass this. I think it is a

community spirit. We had a peace march and people came out together.

I think it is a rallying together on wanting to keep our community

close-knit. Today young people in Chapeltown said the rivalries

between groups remained. But they were proud of how much had been

achieve this week. Thank you very much. About an hour

ago I managed to catch up with the Deputy Prime Minister who had been

in South Yorkshire. I asked him, was he not proud that Yorkshire had

avoided full-scale rioting? I think it is a real tribute to the

communities of Yorkshire. I have just spent some time with youth

leaders and activists here in Sheffield and they are rightly so

proud of the fact that when we were witnessing all of those horrific

scenes in other cities and towns across the country, here in

Sheffield young people were talking to each other and using the social

media to say to each other, we are not going to let this happen. I

think it is a great tribute. Although there has been trouble in

Chapeltown, it is on a much smaller scale. Although injuries were

serious. In Bradford, virtually nothing, thank goodness. Others

saying community leaders came on to look north for weeks ago saying a

word they are doing it is threatened by the cuts. What would

you say to them? I accept there is an ongoing debate about how we make

savings and make sure the most vulnerable are not

disproportionately affected by those. Unfortunately, to get this

thing as the country, we are all going to have to tighten our belts.

Of course that means local authorities. But community cohesion,

those people going out on the street saying please do not join in,

surely that is vital to safeguard the communities. Of course.

Everything plays its part. I do not think we should assume that

communities can only hang together if people in Whitehall right checks

out for them, it is more complicated. That community spirit

is something which is not just about grants from central

government, but yes, I accept there are controversy is about where

savings need to be made. Not least in policing, but what I think the

context is, it will be a real disservice to young people of the

future if we do not managed to wipe the slate clean and pile up more

debt that they will eventually have to pay themselves. Thank you very

man were arrested in Thirsk for conspiracy to commit violent

disorder and in York two 18-year- old men were arrested for

conspiracy to commit burglary. A man from Scarborough was arrested

Dr John Sentamu says he is shocked and appalled by the looters' vile

and evil acts. The archbishop said he would take

matters into his own hands if somebody broke into his home.

If somebody tried to attack my family in my house, that is not a

vigilante action, it is self- defence in defending your property.

As far as I am concerned, should you turn up in my house, I have a

cricket bat. I would hate you pretty hard.

Good boy. Where is your hair? Two-year-old Oscar amazes everybody.

He has cerebral palsy after being starved of oxygen as a baby.

He has so past what the professionals said Oscar would do.

-- he has surpassed. Even as a baby Oscar was determined.

Doctors said he would never see or hear and would always have to eat

through a tube but he proved them wrong. This centre in London looks

at speech and movement and in one visit Moscow has made great

progress. -- Oscar has.

We use communication picture cards to help him with his speech and

language. But the therapy costs thousands of

pounds a visit so every weekend family and friends worked

tirelessly to write -- raise the funds.

We have kept a log overs things we have done Foskett so he can look

back on it and say, this is what we did. -- done for Oscar. He is a

special little boy for us. Oscar beat the odds every day and

with more support he might just be able to say thank you himself.

I am sure you would expect us to keep you posted about his progress,

and we will. York City target a return to the

Football League as the new season gets under way.

Jane Tomlinson really seems to have captured the public imagination,

just as she did. Walk for All this weekend in Settle is a sell-out.

Hotels and B&Bs are sold out. But if you want to get involved you

still can. Settle is gearing up for action and

the reason is Walk for All, this weekend's walking Festival in

memory of Jane Tomlinson will stop places on the walk off fully booked

in what has become a sell-out event. There has been really good interest

in the event. One of the reasons we have chosen deep roots is that most

Guest houses and hotels are fully booked within a ten-mile radius.

A lot of local people have volunteered to do the registration

in the morning, volunteer as marshals. In the end that is really

important. Everybody is really pleased about it and I think they

will do it next year as well. Surrounding towns and villages are

offering accommodation. We will try to find do something

before you come. It is most unlikely you will find something in

Settle but you might something further rout.

It has been a busy weekend. Simon Dyson's season is going from

strength to strength. After the first-round stage of the USPGA he

was the best-placed British player. Not quite so good in the second

round, two over par, but time to recover.

In football, Sheffield Wednesday last night became the 5th Yorkshire

team to reach the FA Cup second round. It was a bit of a slog, 0-0

at Hillsborough after 90 minutes but when stay held on to win the

penalty shoot-out. This was the one that sealed it for James O'Connor

and it was well worth the effort for Wednesday. Their reward in the

next round is a trip to Blackburn rap -- Blackburn Rovers. All of

those matches are to be played the week after next.

In the build up to the weekend, everybody might be talking about

the Premier League, but it is also the first weekend of the new season

outside the Football League. In the Blue Square Bet Premier, that means

that York City will relaunch their campaign for a return to the

Football League, and there are grounds optimism.

I think it will be a good season because we have had a good start.

We have a good chance of getting to the top of the League.

The thread of optimism pervades all generations around here but one of

Festival you can sing and dance while offering at some of

Yorkshire's best offerings. People in Huddersfield are coming

together to eat and drink, a really positive start to the weekend. We

have Thai food, Mexican food, a lot of Yorkshire produce and I think I

am about to try some spicy ice- cream. What do you have for me?

Some great rhubarb cheese, which is known -- which is from Wakefield,

known as the rhubarb Triangle. Then you have some delightful ice-cream,

dandelion and burdock. It has a really strong taste. You must try

this one. This is my favourite. Sealey jam ice-cream. -- chilly

obviously you like Derry, but what is the best thing about the

festival? -- dairy. It is great representation for Yorkshire and

the do have -- the diverse cultures of the food. But visitors are here

to have fun. The weather is not looking good. I think it is about

to rain but everybody is having a wonderful time. It has not put
