Welcome to Wednesday's Look North. Scrapping school fees - the latest | :00:05. | :00:08.
private school to opt for state funding as parents can no longer | :00:08. | :00:18.
afford to pay. What it cannot be is simply a | :00:18. | :00:22.
continuation of what is a private school through public funding. Also | :00:22. | :00:25.
tonight - stopped in its tracks. The Flying Scotsman off the rails | :00:25. | :00:29.
as faults make it the most expensive steam-engine rebuild ever. | :00:29. | :00:32.
And, causing a bit of a stir - the ancient recipe for Christmas cake | :00:32. | :00:39.
which has got our taste buds tingling. | :00:39. | :00:43.
And some very windy weather on the way. The Met Office have a warning | :00:43. | :00:47.
in place for tomorrow - severe gales across Yorkshire. Join me | :00:47. | :00:57.
:00:57. | :01:02. | ||
And join me later four or your Look North sport from here in Sheffield. | :01:02. | :01:07.
We will have Boxing and eight look at last night's football. First | :01:07. | :01:09.
tonight, a second fee-paying school here in Yorkshire is drawing up | :01:09. | :01:13.
plans to enter the state sector. Bradford Girl s' Grammar had become | :01:13. | :01:15.
one of the Government's new free schools because the economic | :01:15. | :01:21.
downturn has meant parents can't afford to send their children there. | :01:21. | :01:25.
-- hopes to become. Earlier this year, Batley Grammar School became | :01:25. | :01:27.
a free school, but the move is controversial because parents who | :01:27. | :01:30.
had opted to pay fees for their children's education will suddenly | :01:30. | :01:39.
find themselves gifted it by the Government. Spencer Stokes reports. | :01:39. | :01:43.
It is one of England's oldest girls' schools, and one of | :01:43. | :01:47.
Yorkshire's tough independent schools. With the economic downturn | :01:47. | :01:51.
making it harder for parents to afford the 11,000 annual fees, | :01:51. | :01:54.
Bradford Girls' Grammar is struggling to fill places. 900 | :01:54. | :01:58.
girls could come here, but currently there are only 400. The | :01:58. | :02:02.
school has decided to join the state sector. We have a capacity | :02:02. | :02:07.
that we just can't fill. Gulls can pass the entrance exam, but then | :02:07. | :02:10.
there is always that Barry about being able to afford it. It is a | :02:10. | :02:14.
shame to have such a fabulous school with such great facilities | :02:14. | :02:17.
that are not being used. If it gets the go-ahead, Bradford Girls' | :02:17. | :02:21.
Grammar will become a free school, funded by the Department for | :02:21. | :02:24.
Education, many parents will no longer have to pay. For hard- | :02:24. | :02:29.
pressed families who currently do pay, it is good news. Because of | :02:29. | :02:33.
the recession, and it has affected our work, for both my husband and | :02:33. | :02:37.
myself, a house he would have had to think about it. Like any other | :02:37. | :02:42.
parent, you do have to sit down and think about whether we can really | :02:42. | :02:48.
do this for the next few years. It is a relief for us. It is a big | :02:48. | :02:52.
relief. The stalling economy has hit independent schools across the | :02:52. | :02:56.
country, and Sheffield band would school closed, and in Kirklees, | :02:56. | :03:00.
Batley Grammar School has already become a free school. This latest | :03:00. | :03:03.
application has been welcomed by Bradford council because the school | :03:03. | :03:07.
will accept some weaker pupils, but there will still be a selection | :03:07. | :03:12.
process. This is still a public money going into these schools, and | :03:12. | :03:17.
they should be open to all. They -- they must be no selection at all. | :03:18. | :03:22.
There must be no criteria which will keep ordinary children out of | :03:22. | :03:25.
these schools. There should be public funding going into what | :03:25. | :03:29.
should be a public school, open to all. We need to make sure it is on | :03:30. | :03:35.
that basis, and then it will provide extra places in Bradford. | :03:35. | :03:41.
Bradford Girls' Grammar school was established in 1662. It hopes of | :03:41. | :03:45.
becoming of becoming a free school will allow more girls to access | :03:45. | :03:48.
high quality education. The Government will make a decision on | :03:48. | :03:55.
the application next summer. It is a really well established | :03:56. | :04:01.
school. It has a fabulous reputation, and a list as long as | :04:01. | :04:05.
its arm of some Weber -- famous pupils. And the school's famous | :04:05. | :04:07.
pupils included, of course, former Labour minister Barbara Castle, and | :04:07. | :04:10.
its television designer Linda Barker. Well, councillor Ralph | :04:10. | :04:20.
:04:20. | :04:20. | ||
Berry, Bradford Council's education spokesman, is here now. | :04:20. | :04:24.
Why are you for this? At the moment pupils have to sit a selection test | :04:24. | :04:28.
and meet the fees. This proposal would open those places are, | :04:28. | :04:33.
irrespective of income, and purely on that basis it provides a big | :04:33. | :04:36.
opportunity to bring an excellent school into the system, to co- | :04:36. | :04:39.
operate with all the other schools in Bradford and help us raise | :04:39. | :04:44.
standards. I do not worried that so many schools in Bradford appeared | :04:44. | :04:48.
to want to opt out. This one is slightly different, but it is the | :04:48. | :04:52.
biggest number of applications for free schools and academies anywhere | :04:52. | :04:57.
outside London. He would not have control over so many pupils who put | :04:57. | :05:02.
-- future, would you? All the schools in Bradford are | :05:02. | :05:05.
collaborating in a partnership and we have a rapidly rising well. We | :05:05. | :05:11.
have a need for places in this area. They have been to talk to us and | :05:11. | :05:15.
have already indicated they wish to work with the other schools. What | :05:15. | :05:18.
reason did they say? Is it purely financial - in other words, they | :05:18. | :05:23.
could not keep open? There consultation presumably, which they | :05:23. | :05:28.
have not shared with me yet, but what I am saying is an opportunity | :05:28. | :05:31.
for parents in Bradford to access a high quality education without | :05:31. | :05:37.
having to pass a selection test or a feast test. On the basis of the | :05:37. | :05:40.
feedback I have received so far, it is clear that we need to be working | :05:40. | :05:48.
with this.. Everybody wanted to go there? Psychologically, it used to | :05:48. | :05:54.
cost 11,000 and now it is free. What about those schools that | :05:54. | :05:58.
historically have struggled up? We you end up with a two-tier system? | :05:58. | :06:02.
I believe not because we have to consult and comment on that. If we | :06:02. | :06:09.
adopt a fair banding system then the impact will be spread across a | :06:09. | :06:13.
fairly wide area. There is no doubt that it will be a popular choice | :06:13. | :06:18.
for a number of parents. I know some people want to know if it will | :06:18. | :06:23.
still be a girls' school. From what I understand, yes. Thank you for | :06:23. | :06:26.
explaining what is a new and developing story. Next tonight, a | :06:26. | :06:30.
woman who was buried alive in a cardboard box has told the jury she | :06:30. | :06:33.
was sure her boyfriend meant to kill her. Michelina Lewandowska | :06:33. | :06:36.
told Leeds Crown Court she was in the box for an hour in total, and | :06:36. | :06:39.
used her engagement ring to dig herself out. Her partner and | :06:39. | :06:43.
another man accused of carrying out the attack deny attempted murder. | :06:43. | :06:49.
Our crime correspondent John Cundy reports. | :06:49. | :06:55.
The first picture of relief -- released of Michelina Lewandowska, | :06:55. | :06:58.
the 27-year-old who was buried alive in a terrifying ordeal last | :06:58. | :07:02.
May at the hands of her boyfriend and another man on the Polish | :07:02. | :07:06.
community in Huddersfield. At this house in the Waterloo district, it | :07:06. | :07:11.
was alleged she was kidnapped after their relationship had broken down | :07:11. | :07:16.
and they were in dispute over their young son. Her ankles and risks | :07:16. | :07:20.
would -- wrists were taped up, she was shot with a Taser stun gun and | :07:20. | :07:25.
put in a cardboard box. He said, with the help of his friend, they | :07:25. | :07:29.
took their victim in the boot of their car, and in this lonely wood | :07:29. | :07:33.
on the outskirts of Huddersfield, buried her alive. Struggling to | :07:33. | :07:38.
breathe, she managed to escape after half-an-hour. The two | :07:38. | :07:41.
defendants denied attempted murder. The defence claims it was a mission | :07:41. | :07:50.
to scare her off. The judge told her that the defence accepted she | :07:50. | :07:54.
had been very frightened by all that had happened to her, but he | :07:54. | :08:00.
went on, "we say the intention was to fight in you off, not to kill | :08:00. | :08:06.
you". She replied, "I was sure he wanted to kill me". She completed | :08:06. | :08:13.
her evident this afternoon, and the trial will continue tomorrow. | :08:13. | :08:18.
Stay with us. A tent, but no train. Disappointment for families at | :08:18. | :08:20.
York's Winter Wonderland as a bargain advertised on Groupon fails | :08:20. | :08:26.
to deliver. Other news around Yorkshire, and a further 600 jobs | :08:26. | :08:29.
could be lost at Leeds City Council after the authority revealed it | :08:29. | :08:33.
needed to make 50 million worth of savings next year. Despite protests | :08:33. | :08:35.
over government cuts, the council says it cannot rule out compulsory | :08:35. | :08:43.
redundancies. This year, they would have to save 90 million. Today, | :08:43. | :08:46.
the leader of the council said any future loss of posts would hit | :08:46. | :08:52.
services. It is serious damage to the | :08:52. | :08:57.
services we offer. Already, we have had to look at closing some light | :08:57. | :09:00.
breeze. We have looked at a couple of sports centres, and we can't | :09:00. | :09:04.
guarantee anything. What we have promised is that we will be looking | :09:04. | :09:07.
at our elderly and young, particularly the vulnerable, | :09:07. | :09:11.
because that is our priority. Street lights in parts of West | :09:11. | :09:14.
Yorkshire are going to be switched off to save money. 2000 will be | :09:14. | :09:17.
turned off in Kirklees between midnight and 5am as an experiment. | :09:17. | :09:20.
The council spends nearly 2 million a year on electricity, and | :09:20. | :09:27.
it's thought that will rise to 3 million by 2015. A charity concert | :09:27. | :09:31.
is taking place in Halifax tonight in memory of the highly -- | :09:31. | :09:35.
honeymoon couple killed in a quad bike accident in the Maldives. They | :09:35. | :09:40.
had been held -- married just a couple of days when they were | :09:40. | :09:45.
killed in a high-speed crash earlier this year. The charity has | :09:45. | :09:51.
so far raised over 3,000. Tonight's events will include songs | :09:51. | :09:56.
and dances, including some from Emma Gray's former pupils. | :09:56. | :09:59.
The exterior restoration of Rotherham and there has been | :09:59. | :10:02.
completed after almost a decade. Contractors were on site today | :10:02. | :10:06.
taking down the last of the scaffolding to reveal the building | :10:06. | :10:12.
in all its glory. 2.2 5 million has been spent on the stonework and | :10:12. | :10:16.
repairing the spire, which had begun to lean. I think the minister | :10:16. | :10:22.
looks magnificent. It is wonderful to see it without scaffolding, and | :10:22. | :10:25.
do see it in the beauty that it really is. It is wonderful. | :10:25. | :10:29.
Next tonight, look not has learned that the restoration of the iconic | :10:29. | :10:33.
steam-engine, the Flying Scotsman, has now cost the National Railway | :10:33. | :10:38.
Museum in York 2.6 million - several times the original budget, | :10:38. | :10:42.
making it the most expensive rebuild ever. What's more, the work | :10:42. | :10:46.
is nearly five years behind schedule. The museum has begun an | :10:46. | :10:51.
inquiry into just what has gone wrong. | :10:51. | :10:55.
This was the proud unveiling back in May of the Flying Scotsman | :10:55. | :10:59.
expected back in service within weeks. So, where is she did they? | :10:59. | :11:04.
The answer is here. And here. And here. A Lancashire workshop, being | :11:04. | :11:08.
taken apart and rebuilt again. She will not be back in use until next | :11:08. | :11:13.
March. What on earth has gone wrong? To our great distress, we | :11:13. | :11:17.
discovered some cracks. As we dug deeper and deeper, we found more | :11:17. | :11:23.
and more. As a consequence, this has put the project back. We have | :11:23. | :11:26.
launched an internal investigation, not just into the project | :11:26. | :11:30.
management, but also into the whole of the engineering of it. | :11:30. | :11:34.
Flying Scotsman had a glittering career. The first locomotive to | :11:34. | :11:39.
reach 100 mph. An early film star, and then one of the first mainline | :11:39. | :11:43.
locomotive to be scraped -- saved from the scrapyard. Experts say the | :11:43. | :11:47.
figures don't longer add up. They cost 2.1 million for the National | :11:47. | :11:50.
Railway Museum to buy her. By the time this overhaul has finished it | :11:50. | :11:56.
will cost another 2.6 million. By comparison, building the brand new | :11:56. | :12:02.
locomotive, tornado, has just cost 3 million. The museum's director | :12:02. | :12:05.
says it is not a fair comparison. If you wanted to build tornado | :12:05. | :12:10.
again it would cost a lot more than 3 million. Secondly, tornado was | :12:10. | :12:14.
built significantly on the back of volunteer labour, and the National | :12:14. | :12:17.
Railway Museum has employed paid staff. Flying Scotsman is running | :12:17. | :12:23.
about five years late, and critics say that is simply not good enough. | :12:23. | :12:28.
A old-age pensioners gave money, school boys gave pocket money, this | :12:28. | :12:33.
really was the people's engine. And yet, this locomotive was taken | :12:34. | :12:38.
apart, piece by piece, the most thorough overhaul ever, and yet | :12:38. | :12:42.
these defects went unnoticed for years. I find it astonishing. | :12:42. | :12:45.
is a legend about the Flying Scotsman. It says that this engine | :12:46. | :12:50.
is cursed and if you omit it will enter your bank account. It is all | :12:50. | :12:54.
rubbish of course, except that if you are the person signing the | :12:54. | :13:03.
cheques right now, it must feel all Businesses are always told they | :13:03. | :13:06.
need to market their goods on the internet to make a success of | :13:06. | :13:10.
things. But for one couple from York, advertising online nearly | :13:10. | :13:14.
shut them down. When they were persuaded to offer a deal on the | :13:14. | :13:17.
discount site Groupon, they had no idea of the impact it would have. | :13:17. | :13:21.
Thousands took advantage of it. But unfortunately some of the | :13:21. | :13:29.
information on the advert was incorrect. Business as usual at the | :13:29. | :13:33.
Winter Wonderland attraction in York. It was different at the | :13:33. | :13:37.
weekend when hundreds were queuing down the street for hours to meet | :13:37. | :13:42.
Father Christmas. Things turned ugly as people grew impatient and | :13:42. | :13:47.
the police have to be called. some stages in got to pushing and | :13:47. | :13:53.
shoving to verbal assaults on some members of staff. Officers at two | :13:53. | :13:59.
separate people trying to get inside. It was frightening. People | :13:59. | :14:03.
were aggressive and shouting out wickets. We are here to help people | :14:04. | :14:12.
have a good time and come to seek Santa. The problem started when the | :14:12. | :14:16.
owners hooked up with the internet discount deal site crook macro. | :14:16. | :14:22.
Advertisement on the website implied The Deal included a train | :14:22. | :14:29.
ride. There was no train ride, and it was disappointing. We paid a lot | :14:29. | :14:34.
getting in and there is no train. The owners normally expect 400 | :14:34. | :14:38.
visitors through the doors but say they had thousands of people | :14:38. | :14:43.
turning up with vouchers from net. What is advertised to them is not | :14:43. | :14:52.
actually here. It has been damaging to us. And very upsetting? | :14:52. | :15:00.
extremely upsetting. We put a lot of hard work in. I am sorry... | :15:00. | :15:05.
Groupon admitted they had misrepresented the attraction on | :15:05. | :15:11.
line and offered customers a refund. Trading standards officers are | :15:11. | :15:15.
aware and say anybody concerned should contact the consumer direct | :15:15. | :15:22.
hotline. That was a serious story but we | :15:22. | :15:27.
want to prove to you that it is not only children who love Father | :15:27. | :15:33.
Christmas. He could not resist popping in with his Christmas list. | :15:33. | :15:36.
Also tonight, quick off the mark. Barnsley's red hot start against | :15:36. | :15:43.
Crystal Palace sets them up for a 2-1 win. Their first goal was | :15:43. | :15:47.
scored just eight seconds in. And let them eat cake. | :15:47. | :15:57.
:15:57. | :15:58. | ||
The centuries-old recipe unearthed at one stately home. | :15:58. | :16:06.
Time for sport. Where is he? He has gone for a workout! I think I | :16:06. | :16:11.
recognise that particular gymnasium. You do not scare us! | :16:11. | :16:15.
I have been picking up tips from lads here who can look after | :16:15. | :16:21.
themselves. I am at the world famous gym in Sheffield. But let's | :16:21. | :16:26.
look at football first. While we watch it and enjoy it, in some | :16:26. | :16:32.
cases, I have a question. What is the quickest goal scored in English | :16:32. | :16:37.
football? Suffice it to say Barnsley's very quick first goal | :16:37. | :16:42.
last night did not break the record, but there was plenty else for | :16:42. | :16:45.
Barnsley fans to cheer as well as Chesterfield fans. | :16:45. | :16:50.
You have to be quick to catch Barnsley these days. Look how | :16:50. | :16:55.
little time they needed to score the opening goal. Just eight-and-a- | :16:55. | :17:02.
half seconds. The application for the daftest goal celebration was | :17:02. | :17:08.
even snappier. Crystal Palace did not so see the funny side and | :17:08. | :17:13.
threatened to spoil the party. Their striker capitalised on | :17:13. | :17:20.
Stephen Foster and the goalkeeper's mutual reluctance to make it 1-1. | :17:20. | :17:24.
But the reds were roaring again by the end. When the Crystal Palace | :17:24. | :17:32.
keeper parried, the winner came and the celebrations started again. Not | :17:32. | :17:38.
just any old Barnsley victory, but their fourth in the row. A win like | :17:38. | :17:43.
that can work wonders for the table position. Barnsley are suddenly | :17:43. | :17:47.
eight in the Championship and they deserve it. Chesterfield would give | :17:47. | :17:53.
anything for such a league run. The J P Trophy is providing consolation. | :17:53. | :17:59.
At Preston in the regional semi- final, they recovered from an early | :17:59. | :18:03.
concession and found an equaliser and forced a penalty shoot-out, | :18:03. | :18:10.
which they proceeded to won. -- to win. The Save put Chesterfield in | :18:10. | :18:18.
pole position. In the new year, Chesterfield will face Aldham | :18:18. | :18:24.
rather than Bradford City for a place in the Wembley final. Two | :18:24. | :18:30.
second half ultimate goals put paid to City's hopes. They even | :18:30. | :18:34.
underlined the end of the episode with Amis of their own. Let's hope | :18:34. | :18:43.
it is the last. It could be a great 2012 for Chesterfield after all. | :18:43. | :18:46.
The answer to my earlier question, the quickest goal in English | :18:46. | :18:53.
football is 3.5 seconds scored by a Barrow player in 1979. I do not | :18:53. | :18:58.
know how you can score a goal in such a short time. Now, boxing and | :18:58. | :19:07.
why I'm at the world-famous Ingle gym. As if we needed an excuse. | :19:07. | :19:10.
Many champions have graced this place, such as Naseem Hamed, Errol | :19:10. | :19:13.
"The Bomber" Graham, and Johnny Nelson. The next success story | :19:13. | :19:18.
looks to be local lad Kell Brook. The 25-year-old flys out for his | :19:18. | :19:21.
first fight in the US boxing centre of Atlantic City to showcase | :19:21. | :19:24.
himself ahead of, hopefully, a world-title shot planned for next | :19:24. | :19:34.
:19:34. | :19:37. | ||
year. He is busy. He had his last session earlier. After he finished, | :19:37. | :19:43.
we caught up with him to ask about preparations. Nobody will doubt the | :19:43. | :19:48.
strength of your record as a professional. With a record of 25 | :19:48. | :19:54.
out of 25 wins, why do need to go to America? When you have made it | :19:54. | :20:01.
in America, you have made it. That is the biggest audience. In America, | :20:01. | :20:05.
they'd know their boxing. Once you are making it there, you are on | :20:05. | :20:10.
your way. They are starting to know about me. I want to get out there | :20:11. | :20:18.
and show them what I can do. I want to stamp my mark out there. Will he | :20:18. | :20:27.
be opposition? Yes. He is poor to weaken. -- he is from Puerto Rico. | :20:28. | :20:35.
He has a big knockout record. I have been training hard. I will put | :20:35. | :20:42.
it on his toes! Your record, 25. What is your secret? Hard work and | :20:43. | :20:48.
dedication. Over the years, as a young kid, I have seen many | :20:48. | :20:54.
champions come out of this gym. Their training regime has been hard. | :20:54. | :21:00.
I have seen it all before. Early- morning runs. I have been doing it | :21:00. | :21:06.
fears. Now I am on the brink of a world title. So 6am in Sheffield in | :21:06. | :21:10.
December is hard work. There are hard. When you are nice and warm in | :21:10. | :21:15.
bed and you have to go out in the cold. You have to get wrapped up. | :21:15. | :21:20.
It is hard but we do it. When you come back from America, you have to | :21:20. | :21:26.
do your Christmas shopping. We have time? I do not think so. After this | :21:26. | :21:31.
fight I will come home. A few days here and we are off to Tenerife for | :21:31. | :21:37.
Christmas. We will not be going on a shopping spree. Yorkshire is very | :21:37. | :21:46.
proud of you. Good luck. He has a real twinkle in his eye. | :21:46. | :21:48.
Now from the champion to the hopefuls. These school children in | :21:48. | :21:51.
Bradford practised their boxing moves today in front of a special | :21:51. | :21:57.
guest. Wenlock the Olympic Mascot visited Springwood Primary after it | :21:57. | :22:00.
became the first in Yorkshire to be named Olympic Get Set school of the | :22:00. | :22:10.
:22:10. | :22:11. | ||
month. As well as running these boxing classes, they have been | :22:11. | :22:16.
running weekly Olympic assemblies to build up excitement. The | :22:16. | :22:21.
Olympics are rushing towards us. I confirm that my boxing expertise is | :22:21. | :22:26.
developing. If only I could defend myself against my four-year old son, | :22:26. | :22:34.
who, since he has started at school keeps challenging me to duels. | :22:34. | :22:38.
You should take your coat off first! | :22:38. | :22:41.
Granny here keeps saying what a good cook she is! But there is no | :22:41. | :22:45.
way she could bake a Christmas cake like this. Why? The recipe is 200 | :22:45. | :22:53.
years old. We will give you the ingredients in a moment. It was | :22:53. | :22:56.
found in the archives of stately home Renishaw Hall in North | :22:56. | :23:02.
Derbyshire. The recipe not the cake. A pint of brandy is included. | :23:02. | :23:08.
It may look familiar, but you have probably never tasted a Christmas | :23:08. | :23:13.
cake like it. For over 200 years, the recipe, designed for this | :23:13. | :23:20.
person, and was hidden in the heart -- archives of Renishaw Hall until | :23:20. | :23:26.
a chance discovery. Their hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It | :23:26. | :23:32.
is difficult to read but when I showed it to my colleagues we were | :23:32. | :23:34.
excited that there was a possibility of bringing it to life | :23:35. | :23:41.
by having it baked. And tasting it as it would have tasted 200 years | :23:41. | :23:48.
ago. For that you need a cook who does not mind a challenge. They | :23:48. | :23:52.
listed the ingredients with no measurements. There was no mention | :23:52. | :23:58.
of oven temperature. It was a case of trying different temperatures | :23:58. | :24:05.
until I got it right. We she did, the cake took pride of place, -- | :24:05. | :24:10.
when she did. It is at the centre piece and joins the collections of | :24:10. | :24:15.
art, sculpture and furniture acquired by generations of the sit | :24:15. | :24:20.
well family. And also the Italian gardens open to the public for the | :24:20. | :24:25.
first time. Of all the things left by her ancestors, it is the cake | :24:25. | :24:30.
that Alexandra is most excited about. It is wonderful to think... | :24:30. | :24:35.
They must have enjoyed it as much as I do. It will be my Christmas | :24:35. | :24:41.
present to a lot of people. exact recipe is secret. But, with | :24:41. | :24:46.
each cake, containing a quarter of a pint of brandy, it possibly | :24:46. | :24:53.
explains how it got lost in the first place! | :24:53. | :24:58.
This is the cake. We can celebrate. You were given an honorary | :24:58. | :25:02.
fellowship at Bradford College. The it was fantastic. I am very | :25:02. | :25:08.
proud. They promise that if ball gets the weather forecast right for | :25:08. | :25:12.
the next few days he could be made the next few days he could be made | :25:12. | :25:16.
a Fellow. We can look at the picture that | :25:16. | :25:21.
came in today. It sums up the weather. The heavy showers that | :25:21. | :25:26.
came through Leeds. A beautiful picture right in the middle of | :25:26. | :25:30.
Leeds city centre. On with the detail. We have a serious forecast | :25:30. | :25:35.
of severe gales, which are likely to hit tomorrow. That means that | :25:35. | :25:42.
they could be up to 70 miles per hour in exposed places. You can see | :25:42. | :25:47.
why. Look at this for a winter storm that is developing. You can | :25:48. | :25:55.
see the isobars on the chart. By 6pm tomorrow, coming in from the | :25:55. | :26:01.
West. There is likely to be disruption. The further north you | :26:01. | :26:09.
go at the more likely you are to have the higher dusts. We have | :26:09. | :26:14.
wintry showers across the Pennines, but they are fizzling out. Once | :26:14. | :26:20.
they go, it will be mostly dry with clear spells tonight. The wind will | :26:20. | :26:25.
he's a little bit ahead of the next system that brings rain in from the | :26:25. | :26:31.
West towards the end of the night. Temperatures down to one degree. | :26:31. | :26:41.
:26:41. | :26:43. | ||
There is a risk of icy patches for a short time. Sunrise at 8:10am. It | :26:43. | :26:49.
will be a wet morning. Persistent rain in the West. Patchy in the | :26:49. | :26:55.
east. We will see the cold front coming down from the north. Heavy | :26:55. | :26:59.
rain moving quickly. It should cleared by the middle of tomorrow | :26:59. | :27:04.
afternoon, with some sunshine. The wind will be the main feature. | :27:04. | :27:10.
Severe gales across parts of Yorkshire. Peking in the early | :27:10. | :27:18.
evening. They could possibly be as high as 70 mph. Double temperatures | :27:18. | :27:25.
for a short time. 11 degrees in York. The severe gales will | :27:25. | :27:29.
continue into the evening and uncalled their air from Thursday | :27:29. | :27:33.
night into Friday. The scattered night into Friday. The scattered | :27:33. | :27:34.
night into Friday. The scattered showers following will be of sleet | :27:34. | :27:39. |
