Good evening from Look North. A woman whose husband was left with

brain damage after being attacked in a nightclub has launched a

campaign against drunken violence. Lisa Snowden, from Pontefract,

wants clubs to have more bouncers and better security and she is

hoping to take her cause to the House of Commons. Olivia Richwald

reports. Phil Snowden was left with

permanent brain damage after a violent nightclub assault. These

Come on. He was just a really happy go lucky,

easy-going guy who wanted to emigrate to Canada, which we were

trying to do, and to have children. We were going through adoption but

unfortunately it never happened. Film mack was attacked in a

Wakefield nightclub in October 2010. He was so badly beaten he can still

not communicate and it is unlikely he will ever truly recover. He

lives in a care home and Lisa visits every day.

A lot of the time you just want to run away and hide and start again

but you can't. To you can't just stop loving somebody just because

this has happened to him. Adam Smith from Pontefract was

jailed for nine years for the attack. The court heard that Smith

had been involved in several fights when he attacked film mack. Lisa is

campaigning for more security inside nightclubs.

It is all very well walking past if you are Lord -- you are drunk or on

drugs but inside the clubs it is even worse. A Gresham can be

She wants police to have more powers to close premises where

violent incidents have taken place and she is organising an online

petition to try to force the government to examine the issue.

A 56-year-old man has died in South Yorkshire after he was hit by a car

while he was lying in the road. The driver of the unknown vehicle

failed to stop after the collision in Goldthorpe yesterday evening.

The man is believed to have been lying in the carriageway on Co-

operative Street when the vehicle drove over him. Police are

appealing for witnesses. A man who died in a house fire on

Christmas Eve has been named as 40- year-old Andrew Massarella. Fire

investigators believe the blaze in Cantley near Doncaster was started

accidentally by smoking materials. But police say they are still

treating his death as suspicious and are keeping an open mind until

the results of forensic examinations are known.

On to football now, and two of our teams are in action tonight. Both

Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United have targeted promotion for

this season but it is not quite going to plan, as Ian Bucknell

In many ways, Huddersfield Town have had a first-grade half to the

season. In November they set a record full games unbeaten in the

Football League and they have only lost twice since then. But the

problem is the league table. Charlton, MK Dons and boast -- both

Sheffield sides have made even stronger starts.

We are all waiting for each other to drop -- to drop a couple of

points and have a little dip or whatever so it is important that

you stay focused and concentrate on adding to your total and trying to

win as many games as possible. Rotherham United's clear goal this

season his promotion. They are currently 11th. They recently beat

Wimbledon but have struggled against the top teams in their

division. Tonight they hope to change that at Cheltenham and go

into the new year with renewed hope. The 2011 has been a year of weather

extremes, from hot to cold and It has been one of the most

remarkable spells of weather since I started broadcasting. The cold

snap continued into the new-year as people ventured back to work. The

big thaw set him during February, one of the mildest on record. Some

rivers burst their banks with severe gales to boot. This pilot

needed all his skills to let -- to land safely at Leeds Bradford.

April was the warmest on record and a barbecue Easter came as a welcome

change, although the heat brought to thunderstorms which brought

flash flooding to parts of Sheffield. This torrential rain was

the exception to the rule. Spring was the dark -- driest on record,

leading to concern about water restrictions. Yorkshire water

remained confident that the region would be adequately supplied. A

warm and sunny spring led to hopes that some would be good but again

expectations were dashed. It turned out to be the coolest summer for

nearly 20 years and the Leeds Festival was a washout. Autumn saw

more extremes. It was the second warmest since 1653, with Yorkshire

enjoying its hottest October day on record, 29 degrees Celsius at

Bramham. December saw severe gales and when speeds up to 72 mph at

surge Fenton, causing some disruption, but this was the

exception to that rule and for a change December has been a pretty

normal month in what has turned out to be an incredible year of
