the programme tonight - the hunt for a missing schoolgirl. Police say | :00:06. | :00:09.
they're getting closer to finding the truth. Detectives make another | :00:09. | :00:12.
plea for Erika Kacicova to come forward as a 37-year-old man is | :00:12. | :00:22.
:00:22. | :00:24. | ||
arrested on suspicion of child abduction. The information from the | :00:24. | :00:29.
excellent support from the public who have been making the calls, it | :00:29. | :00:34.
is starting to knit together and I feel like we are closing in. Also | :00:34. | :00:38.
tonight... The farm where a young boy was tragically killed raises | :00:38. | :00:40.
funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which flew him to | :00:40. | :00:50.
:00:50. | :00:51. | ||
And the teenager from Doncaster signed up to a record deal by the | :00:51. | :00:56.
man behind Oasis and Primal Scream. And in sport Bradford get their | :00:56. | :01:00.
first win back in league one. Three goals in nine minutes - the first, | :01:00. | :01:09.
this brilliant effort from Mark Yeates. A bright but breezy day | :01:09. | :01:13.
today, what is in store tomorrow? Fewer showers and a light breeze. | :01:13. | :01:23.
:01:23. | :01:27. | ||
the missing schoolgirl from Sheffield say they're closing in on | :01:27. | :01:31.
where she might be and they're confident she's still alive. Erika | :01:31. | :01:35.
Kacicova has now been missing for a week. Today a 37-year-old man was | :01:35. | :01:38.
arrested in Bradford on suspicion of child abduction, and this afternoon | :01:38. | :01:41.
her school support worker joined police in appealing for her to come | :01:41. | :01:51.
:01:51. | :01:52. | ||
home. Kate Bradbrook joins us now from her school in Darnall. | :01:52. | :01:57.
Well, concern continues to grow tonight for 13-year-old Erika | :01:57. | :02:03.
Kacicova. Behind me is the school where she went and her house is up | :02:03. | :02:09.
the road where she was last seen last Monday. Despite two arrests | :02:09. | :02:16.
being made, one this morning, Erika tonight remains missing. | :02:16. | :02:21.
Police appealed for help a week after 13-year-old Erika Kacicova | :02:21. | :02:27.
vanished from her home in Darnall. The case is being described as | :02:27. | :02:31.
critical and pleas were made in English and Slovak for her to come | :02:31. | :02:41.
:02:41. | :02:58. | ||
Monday. On Friday, a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of | :02:58. | :03:04.
abduction, yesterday he was released on bail. This morning another man, a | :03:04. | :03:07.
37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of child abduction. The | :03:07. | :03:13.
information we are getting from the excellent support from the public | :03:13. | :03:19.
making the calls through to us, it is starting to knit together and I | :03:19. | :03:27.
feel we are closing in. The arrest is most certainly a man known to | :03:27. | :03:35.
Erika, and I feel has had some contact with Erika over the last 48 | :03:35. | :03:42.
hours. Erika had celebrated her 13th birthday, family and friends say | :03:42. | :03:46.
they want her to know she is not in trouble and to contact the police as | :03:47. | :03:53.
soon as she can. Erika, please, come back with Mum, dad, sister and | :03:53. | :04:03.
:04:03. | :04:04. | ||
brother. Comeback. Erika, are you OK? We love you so much, comeback. | :04:04. | :04:10.
We want you. Unconfirmed sightings have been reported in Sheffield and | :04:10. | :04:14.
Bradford. Several properties in the Bradford area have been searched | :04:14. | :04:17.
today as part of the investigation. Detectives say they are not ruling | :04:18. | :04:23.
anything out. Well, Erika has been missing before but never for this | :04:23. | :04:28.
long which is why there is so much concern. The police say finding | :04:28. | :04:32.
Erika is their top priority and urged anyone with any information or | :04:32. | :04:40.
think they know where she is to contact them. | :04:40. | :04:43.
A West Yorkshire farm has been receiving messages of sympathy | :04:43. | :04:46.
following the death of an 11-year-old boy. Harry Whitlam died | :04:46. | :04:49.
in hospital after he was hit by a tractor at Swithens Farm in Rothwell | :04:49. | :04:52.
on Friday. It's a popular visitor attraction but the accident happened | :04:52. | :04:58.
on the working part of the farm. It is another working way but staff | :04:59. | :05:05.
are devastated. Swithens Farm has been receiving messages of sympathy | :05:05. | :05:11.
from right across the country over the weekend. It follows the death of | :05:11. | :05:15.
11-year-old Harry Whitlam. His mother works at the farm and he died | :05:15. | :05:19.
after being hit by a tractor on Friday. The farm is split into, part | :05:19. | :05:24.
is open to the public and then there is the working side where the | :05:24. | :05:28.
accident happened. Today, it operated as normal at a very | :05:28. | :05:35.
difficult time. A farm cannot stop, it must go on. It is full of | :05:35. | :05:40.
livestock which have to be cared for 20 47 and fed every day, it must | :05:40. | :05:48.
carry on. We are doing our level best. Yesterday, 700 was collected | :05:48. | :05:54.
during a fundraiser at the farm and dedicated to Harry. It was a charity | :05:54. | :05:58.
event for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which is poignant because | :05:58. | :06:03.
it was the ambulance service that try to save Harry's life couple of | :06:03. | :06:13.
days ago. I do not think he is far from our thoughts. The tractor was | :06:13. | :06:18.
arrested on dangerous and drink driving. The health and safety | :06:18. | :06:21.
executive has confirmed it is investigating the accident and | :06:21. | :06:26.
officers have been at the farm and they are now supporting West | :06:26. | :06:30.
Yorkshire police with their enquiries. -- the driver of the | :06:30. | :06:37.
tractor. This month will mark five years since the campaigning | :06:37. | :06:40.
journalist and blogger Adrian Sudbury died from Leukaemia. The | :06:40. | :06:43.
27-year-old from Sheffield dedicated the months before his death to | :06:43. | :06:47.
raising awareness about bone marrow donation. Well, since his death | :06:47. | :06:50.
thousands of teenagers have been inspired to register as donors | :06:50. | :06:53.
thanks to an education programme he started. In a moment we'll speak to | :06:53. | :06:56.
Adrian's parents Keith and Kay but first here's our Health | :06:56. | :07:01.
Correspondent Jamie Coulson. Adrian Sudbury was a reporter who | :07:01. | :07:06.
became the story when he chose to use the last few months of his life | :07:06. | :07:10.
to campaign against bone marrow donation. The journalist had two | :07:11. | :07:13.
types of leukaemia and used his experiences to raise awareness about | :07:13. | :07:19.
the disease and its treatment. I was in a unique position to try to | :07:19. | :07:25.
change something. A simple solution to a major problem. Adrian wrote | :07:25. | :07:32.
about his illness on a blog which invited insight into his life with | :07:32. | :07:37.
leukaemia. He later launched a campaign to educate pupils about own | :07:37. | :07:42.
marrow donation and that led to Downing Street where he impressed | :07:42. | :07:49.
the then Prime Minister. The key issue is to encourage people to be | :07:49. | :07:54.
donors and we can move forward with proposals to assist if not Adrian | :07:54. | :07:57.
Sudbury then many people who suffer as a result of these illnesses. | :07:57. | :08:06.
After I have spoken, you will say I want to give load. The legacy of | :08:06. | :08:12.
Adrian lives on. Volunteers speak to young people about being -- giving | :08:12. | :08:19.
blood and being donors. Since the launch it has reached 96,016 to | :08:19. | :08:24.
18-year-olds over 4300 have signed up as potential donors, more than | :08:24. | :08:30.
5400 have joined as blood donors and over 1400 have registered as organ | :08:30. | :08:36.
donors. One person who understands the importance of donation is Jane | :08:36. | :08:42.
who had a transplant in July last year. It gave me the chance of | :08:42. | :08:47.
getting a cure and staying alive without the transplant I would not | :08:47. | :08:50.
be here today and my husband would not have his wife and my children | :08:50. | :08:56.
would not have their mum. So, the transplant has given me my life | :08:56. | :09:00.
back. It is five years since Adrian died but the legacy of those last | :09:00. | :09:10.
:09:10. | :09:11. | ||
two months of his life lives on. More than 4000 people have signed up | :09:11. | :09:18.
to the bone marrow donor register. We are and it was something that | :09:18. | :09:22.
Adrian was really keen to promote when he was so ill because he knew | :09:22. | :09:28.
that if people could be informed about the process they actually | :09:28. | :09:35.
would act on it and it has turned out to be exactly as he thought. | :09:35. | :09:39.
Keith, you called for a new law requiring schools and colleges to | :09:39. | :09:44.
teach people about the importance of bone marrow donation. Should that be | :09:44. | :09:50.
the case? Ideally, yes. At the moment the programme is delivered by | :09:50. | :09:56.
up to 100 volunteers who are passionate and committed and the | :09:56. | :10:00.
students when they are taught by these people are totally engaged so | :10:00. | :10:05.
in the long-term the legality will be good but we are growing slowly | :10:05. | :10:10.
but we are growing with such successes. Are enough young people | :10:10. | :10:17.
aware of the difference they can make? Well, we have a good committed | :10:18. | :10:25.
volunteer team and they are joining all the time. They are finding out | :10:25. | :10:30.
about the programme, one of the most heartening things is that when | :10:30. | :10:34.
people get in touch and so can I join the scheme, they actually have | :10:34. | :10:40.
never heard of Adrian and they don't know whether came from. That shows | :10:40. | :10:47.
how powerful the message is and how welcome students find it. Schools | :10:47. | :10:52.
are getting in touch to say we have heard about you, please deliver the | :10:52. | :10:55.
talks and the schools that have been having talks from the outset are | :10:55. | :11:03.
still having them four years later. It grows to be part of the culture | :11:03. | :11:07.
and it is what students look forward to, the students are saying we have | :11:07. | :11:12.
had the fact we now want to sign up to be blood donors, we will go on | :11:12. | :11:16.
the organ donor register and will you come into school and examples of | :11:16. | :11:22.
saliva so we can go one to the bone marrow register. You are continuing | :11:22. | :11:28.
where a June left off but how has it been for uses he died? | :11:28. | :11:32.
It is difficult but we do not do this as grieving parents, we do it | :11:32. | :11:37.
because it is a good idea. The figures are outstanding but the | :11:37. | :11:41.
other figures are already three of the students who had the | :11:41. | :11:45.
presentation have registered and have come up as a match and donated | :11:45. | :11:50.
and we have saved at least three lives so far. What a legacy. What | :11:50. | :11:55.
would he be saying to you now? Keep going. It doesn't mean we don't miss | :11:55. | :12:02.
him and we miss him every day. wonderful for us to be able to see | :12:02. | :12:09.
him still, we have met people in the same situation as us and have had | :12:09. | :12:13.
huge support from people who have also lost children. You become a | :12:13. | :12:16.
member of a club nobody wants to join but it is incredibly | :12:16. | :12:24.
supportive. So, I can't believe five-year is gone by. What a special | :12:24. | :12:28.
young man. Thank you. In other news 350 jobs are being lost at the Rural | :12:28. | :12:32.
Payments Agency in Northallerton. Staff have been told they will be | :12:32. | :12:36.
offered jobs at sites in Newcastle or York - but some say they won't be | :12:36. | :12:39.
able to make the move. The Agency says the decision wasn't made | :12:39. | :12:42.
lightly and it will do everything possible to ensure a smooth | :12:42. | :12:45.
transition. Two men have been remanded in custody, charged with | :12:45. | :12:47.
murdering a man in Scarborough last week. | :12:47. | :12:50.
41-year-old Jonathan Binns died in Eastborough on Wednesday - he'd been | :12:50. | :12:53.
assaulted. David White, who's 34, and Kevin Pickering, who's 29, will | :12:53. | :12:55.
appear in court again this Wednesday. They're also accused of | :12:55. | :13:03.
conspiracy to commit robbery, along with two other men. Fire crews have | :13:03. | :13:06.
returned to a fire at a Worksop recycling centre that's been burning | :13:06. | :13:09.
for more than a week. Local residents have also complained | :13:09. | :13:13.
about the amount of smoke still being given off by the blaze on | :13:13. | :13:16.
Shire Oaks Road. The fire service had intended to let the fire burn | :13:16. | :13:20.
itself out, but will now return to the warehouse to take out the | :13:20. | :13:23.
rubbish in stages. A charity that helps young people | :13:23. | :13:26.
who've been abused in the Scarborough area is facing closure. | :13:26. | :13:29.
Staff have now written to councillors asking for help. Safety | :13:29. | :13:32.
Net has been operating for two years, but has had bids for money | :13:32. | :13:36.
from various sources turned down. It says it will have to shut at the end | :13:36. | :13:40.
of the month, and that many young people will suffer if the service is | :13:40. | :13:50.
:13:50. | :13:51. | ||
lost. If you could see the kids that come in here, it is heartbreaking. A | :13:51. | :13:55.
lot of them, as I say, are more vulnerable to suicide which is why | :13:55. | :14:03.
we started Safety Net to help those kids and some of the kids have moved | :14:03. | :14:12.
on fantastic. Kids coming in at 15 and 16 that have had absolutely no | :14:12. | :14:18.
future and are now getting degrees. More than thirty six million pounds | :14:18. | :14:21.
is going towards improving cycling schemes in Yorkshire and the Peak | :14:21. | :14:24.
District. West Yorkshire gets the bulk of the money. The Cycle City | :14:24. | :14:28.
grants will pay for a new cycle super highway to link Leeds and | :14:28. | :14:31.
Bradford. And fourteen miles of the Leeds Liverpool canal tow path is to | :14:32. | :14:35.
be upgraded, which will make it the longest continuous cycleway in the | :14:35. | :14:42.
north of England. If you look at the long-term health | :14:42. | :14:46.
benefits, the investment is worth it. Other cities have seen a payback | :14:46. | :14:51.
of ten times on the investment and studies show cycling to work in half | :14:51. | :15:00.
your risk of getting diabetes later in life. I am a cyclist. I am | :15:00. | :15:05.
thinking of investing in a new one. Save the pennies first though. The | :15:05. | :15:08.
government's benefit cap is extended to the whole of Yorkshire from | :15:08. | :15:12.
today. Households in Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield are the last to be | :15:12. | :15:16.
affected. It's the latest in a raft of reforms to the welfare system. So | :15:16. | :15:20.
what does it mean for those on benefit and for the region as a | :15:20. | :15:22.
whole? Here's our business and money correspondent Danni Hewson. | :15:22. | :15:25.
Of all the benefit changes this is probably the most straight forward | :15:26. | :15:28.
and most popular. From today everyone who claims benefit will | :15:28. | :15:32.
have the amount they can access capped at 500 a week for couples | :15:32. | :15:35.
and lone parents. 350 a week for single people. If you're thinking | :15:35. | :15:39.
that's a lot to live on - well few people actually qualify for those | :15:39. | :15:43.
kind of sums in fact less than 2,000 across our region will be affected | :15:43. | :15:49.
by the cap. When the blueprint for today's benefits system was drawn up | :15:49. | :15:52.
in the 1940's it was intended the payments would be a stop-gap | :15:52. | :15:55.
measure. But rising unemployment has led to people claiming for longer | :15:55. | :15:59.
periods of time - sending our benefits bill soaring - hence the | :15:59. | :16:03.
cap. But a Yorkshire charity says that capped figure is nowhere near | :16:03. | :16:12.
what's required for a decent standard of living. The research is | :16:12. | :16:17.
based on what the public thinks. We all need unacceptable level of | :16:17. | :16:24.
living from paying bills to clothing to the food you need so for a large | :16:24. | :16:29.
family of a couple, to parents and four kids, the figure is around 740 | :16:29. | :16:36.
a week. That is some level higher than the 500 in the benefit cap. | :16:36. | :16:40.
you're thinking none of this affects you - think again. It's estimated | :16:40. | :16:44.
the whole string of benefit cuts will take over a billion and a half | :16:44. | :16:47.
pounds out of the region's economy every year. That's an average of | :16:48. | :16:51.
500 per working age person. Money the region sorely needs to get the | :16:51. | :16:58.
economy moving. It affects the number of shops available, jobs and | :16:58. | :17:05.
services. We all have to pay more, we all pay more because of the loss | :17:06. | :17:11.
in benefits. What is important is to break that cycle and get people into | :17:11. | :17:16.
work and help the local businesses to grow. While this is the last of | :17:16. | :17:19.
the big cuts this year arguably the biggest upheaval is still to come. | :17:19. | :17:22.
Universal Credit - which rolls all separate benefits into one single | :17:22. | :17:32.
payment begins in October. Before seven o'clock... We'll look | :17:32. | :17:35.
back on the weekend's sport and we'll also hear from a musician | :17:35. | :17:42.
called John Lennon... # The pubs have closed, we will send you on a | :17:42. | :17:45.
course. This is 15-year-old John Lennon McCullagh from Doncaster, and | :17:45. | :17:55.
:17:55. | :18:04. | ||
Sounding good. Now for the sport here's Tanya. We've just had the | :18:04. | :18:08.
second full weekend of football league fixtures with a few of our | :18:08. | :18:12.
sides experiencing a stuttering start to the new season. But we do | :18:12. | :18:15.
have a couple of teams who are having a better start to their | :18:15. | :18:22.
league campaigns. Shamir Masri starts with Leeds United. The trip | :18:22. | :18:27.
to Leicester was a cagey affair both defences dominated the majority of | :18:27. | :18:34.
the game. Leicester hit the woodwork but United came home. Huddersfield | :18:34. | :18:38.
will hope James Vaughan carries forward his form, he scored his | :18:38. | :18:43.
third league goal against QPR. Shaun Wright Phillips levelled the | :18:43. | :18:49.
tie. Though both had chances to win it. It ended in a draw. | :18:49. | :18:56.
Bradford City recorded their first win in league one, they scored three | :18:56. | :18:59.
in nine minutes. Mark Yates scored his first against | :18:59. | :19:05.
Carlisle with a great strike. Wells continued his good form and deserve | :19:06. | :19:12.
to put the second home for Bradford. James Hansen added a third. | :19:12. | :19:16.
Gary Jones competed the rout in the second half attacking in a cross to | :19:16. | :19:24.
make it 4-0. Chesterfield continued their 100% start. | :19:24. | :19:33.
Roberts forced a shot into Cheltenham's goal. They are joint | :19:33. | :19:38.
top. Log on to the BBC iPlayer for the highlights programme. Well the | :19:38. | :19:41.
football's just underway but the rugby league season's coming to a | :19:41. | :19:44.
climax with Huddersfield Giants at the top of Super League. They | :19:44. | :19:47.
powered past Wigan in the second half on Friday night to win 30-12 | :19:47. | :19:51.
and they're top of the table by a point. With three games to go, | :19:51. | :19:54.
they're closing in on the League Leaders Shield and the chance to | :19:54. | :20:02.
finish top of the rugby league pile for the first time in 81 years. | :20:02. | :20:07.
I would like to say we are not looking at it but we are. It is in | :20:07. | :20:13.
the back of your mind. This is the first opportunity so you would be | :20:13. | :20:17.
lying if you said you were not looking further down-the-line to | :20:17. | :20:22.
pick up silverware. There are three games left, it will be tough. | :20:22. | :20:26.

That is it from me. It is a busy studio tonight. | :21:09. | :21:13.
Now you may remember last April, we featured the residents of St John's | :21:13. | :21:16.
House, in Kirk Hammerton who were aiming to become the oldest choir in | :21:16. | :21:26.
:21:26. | :21:28. | ||

There is hope for us all. And talking of singing - our next guest | :21:45. | :21:48.
is set to take the music world by storm. He's 15, he's named after | :21:49. | :21:51.
singing legend John Lennon, his influences include Blues and Bob | :21:51. | :21:55.
Dylan, and he's recently been signed by the man behind Oasis and Primal | :21:55. | :22:02.
Scream. John Lennon McCullagh - yes, that is his real name - is from | :22:02. | :22:05.
Doncaster and he's getting rave reviews from his gigs locally. He | :22:05. | :22:13.
and his manager - dad John - join us now. John Junior and John senior. | :22:13. | :22:18.
This is so exciting because you did not take the guitar up until | :22:18. | :22:25.
recently. No, not until I was 12. started writing songs last year. Bob | :22:25. | :22:33.
Dylan. When I was 12 I heard it on the radio and that was it. It | :22:33. | :22:39.
changed my life. Dad, you have a talented than but I believe you were | :22:39. | :22:47.
into music yourself. I tried a little bit, I wrote a fuse songs. | :22:47. | :22:53.
Something has passed over onto him. And he is writing his own material | :22:53. | :22:57.
and that isn't easy. It is unbelievable. He is writing his own | :22:57. | :23:04.
song. I could never do that. Tell us about the moment you were discovered | :23:04. | :23:11.
because it is like a fairy tale. Yes, amazing. I always... I never | :23:11. | :23:18.
thought it would happen. He said I will sign new. This is Alan McGee | :23:18. | :23:24.
who discovered the Libertines and Oasis. It was amazing. Such an | :23:24. | :23:29.
honour to work with Alan McGee. Your songs have a political commentary. | :23:29. | :23:35.
You're quite astute for someone so young. Yes, well, I was brought up | :23:35. | :23:41.
in a mining village in Doncaster and I wrote about what I saw. It all | :23:41. | :23:49.
comes from there. You have a tour coming up and an album. Yes, the | :23:49. | :23:56.
single is out on September 16. album is out on October 14. I am | :23:57. | :24:03.

your feet on the ground. Yes, just a bit! We will hear from you in a | :24:10. | :24:15.
moment. First, the weather forecast. Some pictures to show you from the | :24:15. | :24:20.
course of the weekend. This is a dramatic sky before sunset | :24:20. | :24:26.
yesterday. The second picture is a nature reserve sent in by Beverley. | :24:27. | :24:33.
The third picture is Ilkley Moor. Lovely fluffy clouds. You can keep | :24:33. | :24:43.
:24:43. | :24:47. | ||
hail and thunder in places, there will be one or two tomorrow but | :24:47. | :24:51.
lighter in nature and not as many. The breeze will be lighter, a fair | :24:51. | :24:57.
amount of cloud so not such good sunny spells. As we make our way on | :24:58. | :25:03.
Wednesday, a week whether future, a warm front and temperatures on the | :25:03. | :25:08.

through the day, temperatures up a notch, 19 or 20 degrees. A similar | :26:09. | :26:15.
day on Wednesday. Heavy showers on Thursday. Great stuff. Well that's | :26:15. | :26:18.
about it from us - we leave you tonight with the sound of John | :26:18. | :26:28.
Lennon McCullagh. Hopefully he will come back and CS. What a talent. | :26:28. | :26:38.
