Why most of us are facing cuts in public services despite a 5% rise

Battle for the ballroom; the London Ritz tells it's namesake

in Brighouse to change its name - 80 years after it opened.

that will be cut in Yorkshire in the coming months -

even though Council Tax is set This week, four of our authorities

are setting their budgets for the year ahead, and it looks

like all of us are going to be only Doncaster, North Yorkshire

and York have said they want to raise council tax

by under 4%. Every other council in our region

wants council bills This means if you live in a Band D

they would be prepared to pay higher We have consulted on the budget

and people say they now recognise there is no

the level of 4.99 something they are 4.99% is at the upper end

of council tax rises. 1.9% for basic council

services, things like highways maintenance,

street cleaning and swimming pools and then 3% for adult social

care. It is that adult social care

that is making this year's rise feel The 3% will not solve

the social care funding issue. It's expected there will still be

an overspend in Yorkshire of At this Huddersfield care home,

the extra cash is welcome. The vast majority

of our residents are The additional funding

will allow us to develop our staff, spend money

add additional beds. Every council is facing the seam

of obesity is under review. The Rotherham population would have

for seven years and now taxes are rising to new levels

to fund social care. The pressure on adult social

care comes because of rising numbers needing social care

at a time when funding has been falling in real terms

for several years. The Government knows this and this

is an attempt by them with the extra money with the extra council tax

to try and put is sticking

three or four years out. More tough decisions will be

necessary in the years ahead. It's been a landmark in the town

for 80 years but now the Ritz Ballroom in Brighouse may

vice versa. It is not likely people are going to be confused and there

are so many out there. Why are they doing this now quiz??

boy tactics. They have been using the name for 80 years than they have

got prior rights to use it and they should carry on using it. As you

have identified, there are numerous Ritz is around the country. Nobody

is confusing them with the Ritz in London, which has a unique place in

the establishment. It is uniquely positioned in terms of its grandeur

and everything it stands for. Nobody is confusing Brighouse Ritz with

that. Why every doing it now after 80 years? I am baffled by it. I

think it is to do with the fact they have recently had a lot of

they are just getting more they are just getting more

territorial now about their rights. The other thing that you have to

bear in mind is that these days the commercial side is all about online

visibility. A lot of big brands to not like being knocked off the top

spot by somebody in Brickhouse or another company with a similar name.

Do the Ritz in London have a case? I do not think they have a case. I've

had like to see the facts on which they have based their letter to the

Ritz in Brickhouse. It seems to me like they are getting pushed around

and. What would your advice be? Seek specialist advice. It is an

important area of law and it is something you need a specialist to

have a look at. It strikes me that he they have a good case and a good

the time you get the afternoon. We are ramping up those winds from the

west. Temperatures up to 10 Celsius. When you add that blustery wind, it

will feel colder than that and it will feel chillier than today. The

main forecast or focus of the forecast is to storm Doris. This is

the next named storm. It is coming to us by Thursday. An area of deep

pressure and lots of tightly packed ice bar as they are. We are going to

see impacts of strong winds. We are going to see rain and we are going

to see some snow. Let me show you be warning areas. This warning for five

to ten centimetres of snow dipping into Yorkshire. This area covering

most of our patch, winds up to 60 mph. An amber warning. That is a lot
