Good evening. Welcome to North West Tonight with Gordon Burns. | :00:03. | :00:06.
And Ranvir Singh. Our top story, a judge frees a woman jailed for | :00:06. | :00:09.
accepting goods looted in the riots after she complained the sentence | :00:09. | :00:17.
was too harsh. It's thought to be the first appeal | :00:17. | :00:20.
after a week when the courts cracked down on the rioters. Also | :00:20. | :00:22.
tonight, as police release new pictures of an attack on a | :00:22. | :00:25.
Manchester jewellers, how the courts are helping to restore | :00:25. | :00:34.
confidence in our city centres. When they saw the sentences from | :00:34. | :00:37.
the court, they realised the judiciary will on the side of | :00:37. | :00:43.
people in Manchester. Passenger numbers bloom on the | :00:43. | :00:47.
branch lines as more of us had to the countryside. | :00:47. | :00:50.
The sign says go but a government committee says stop. We are in | :00:50. | :00:55.
Liverpool to hear more on the report which is calling for the | :00:55. | :00:58.
government to put this hospital's rebuild on ice. | :00:58. | :01:03.
And why it is called for coups in Cheshire, as for rare cheetah cubs | :01:03. | :01:13.
:01:13. | :01:17. | ||
make their first appearance. -- After the riots, the reckoning. The | :01:17. | :01:20.
courts have been in the news all week for the tough sentences given | :01:20. | :01:27.
to those involved in arson and looting. | :01:27. | :01:30.
But in what's thought to be the first appeal, a judge has | :01:30. | :01:33.
overturned a jail term given to a 24-year-old mother who accepted a | :01:33. | :01:36.
pair of shorts that had been looted. He admitted it was too harsh for | :01:36. | :01:41.
what she actually did. But does that mean more appeals are | :01:41. | :01:43.
likely to be successful? Our reporter Yunus Mulla has been | :01:43. | :01:50.
following the case at Manchester Crown Court. Tell us more about | :01:50. | :01:56.
this particular case and what happened. | :01:56. | :02:00.
Ursula Nevin was in bed at the time of the widespread disorder in | :02:00. | :02:02.
Manchester city centre where her lodger, Gemma Corbett, helped | :02:02. | :02:05.
herself to clothing and footwear from the Vans store and then took | :02:05. | :02:15.
:02:15. | :02:17. | ||
them back to the house they shared in Stretford, Greater Manchester. | :02:17. | :02:20.
Ursula Nevin tried on a pair of stolen shorts and then kept them | :02:20. | :02:23.
and for that she was sentenced to five months in prison, a sentence | :02:23. | :02:29.
that her family and lawyers said was too harsh. Today Judge Andrew | :02:29. | :02:32.
Gilbert QC agreed and said a distinction had to be made between | :02:32. | :02:35.
someone who had actually taken part in the rioting and others who had | :02:35. | :02:40.
received looted items and crucialy had not joined in the disturbances. | :02:40. | :02:43.
The court heared she should be punished for keeping quiet but | :02:43. | :02:47.
sending her to jail was too severe and instead she was told do 75 | :02:47. | :02:51.
hours of unpaid work. She left without making any comment but this | :02:51. | :02:58.
is what her solicitor had to say. This is a statement from Ursula | :02:58. | :03:02.
Nevin. I'm very sorry about the events of the last 10 days. The | :03:02. | :03:05.
last week has been a traumatic experience for me, one I wanted to | :03:05. | :03:12.
get -- forget. I want to go home and see my children. | :03:12. | :03:17.
I'll we now likely to see a spate of jail sentences being overturned | :03:17. | :03:23.
by the Court of Appeal? What the judge said here today was | :03:23. | :03:27.
the original sentence was wrong in principle because it Ursula Nevin | :03:27. | :03:31.
was not involved in those disturbances. But her lodger was | :03:31. | :03:35.
and she was in fact given an 18 month sentence today for her part | :03:36. | :03:40.
in that rioting. In fact before she -- he sentenced her, he said he | :03:40. | :03:43.
would not be departing from what some have called high sentences | :03:43. | :03:53.
:03:53. | :03:58. | ||
because they are very -- were very severe disturbances. Meanwhile, the | :03:58. | :04:01.
tough sentences handed down to some rioters have helped restore | :04:01. | :04:03.
confidence in Manchester, according to a senior councillor. Pat Karney | :04:03. | :04:06.
says shop workers and customers believe the threat of prison will | :04:06. | :04:09.
keep troublemakers off the streets. Free parking and tram travel is | :04:09. | :04:12.
being offered to persuade people to return to the city after a slump in | :04:12. | :04:15.
the number of shoppers last weekend. Stuart Flinders is in the city | :04:15. | :04:21.
centre. It doesn't look too bad right now. | :04:21. | :04:28.
Last weekend, the real problem was a dip in people coming into the | :04:28. | :04:31.
city centre and a drop in confidence. Many other people who | :04:31. | :04:36.
work in the shops that at the end of their night shift, they will | :04:36. | :04:40.
have to head back to the. And the writers might return. Right now, it | :04:40. | :04:46.
is all about restoring confidence. 10 days on and Manchester looked as | :04:46. | :04:49.
busy as ever today but everywhere there were signs of what happened | :04:49. | :04:54.
last week. His music shop is open but some of its windows remain | :04:54. | :04:59.
boarded up, decorated by a street artist. Last week, one writer can | :04:59. | :05:02.
be seen carrying away a guitar from the shop, shortly before the police | :05:02. | :05:07.
arrived. The window itself landed on a 25,000 pound piano. We had a | :05:07. | :05:12.
fire extinguisher but was found underneath the piano which had | :05:12. | :05:16.
parts of piano keys wedged into the bottom of it. It didn't make any | :05:16. | :05:20.
sense. I understand the need to steal something, but I don't | :05:20. | :05:23.
understand why you would just destroy something. This TV and hi- | :05:23. | :05:28.
fi shop cannot even reopen yet. Last night, the pictures of rioters | :05:28. | :05:32.
looting the shop were shown on BBC's Crimewatch. What are you | :05:32. | :05:37.
hoping the appeal is going to do? Put some more vermin away. Is that | :05:37. | :05:42.
how for strongly you feel about it? Absolutely, yeah. They had no right | :05:42. | :05:46.
ought to do what they did a pilot to my shop or the City. Put them | :05:46. | :05:49.
away. Crimewatch also show the pictures of looting in Manchester | :05:49. | :05:54.
and Salford. We've had won a rest overnight and that was in relation | :05:54. | :05:58.
to one of the stills we featured, showing Tesco Express in Manchester. | :05:58. | :06:02.
We've had a number of names are being researched and hopefully we | :06:02. | :06:07.
will have more arrests. Throughout Manchester, you will see signs of | :06:07. | :06:11.
the City trying to reassert itself. But it is not just about restoring | :06:11. | :06:15.
civic pride, it is about protecting this business of Manchester's | :06:15. | :06:18.
traders. Last weekend, the number of shoppers in the City was down by | :06:18. | :06:24.
20 %. Some free parking and Metro Link Travel is being offered to | :06:24. | :06:28.
tempt shoppers back but according to one senior councillor, tough | :06:29. | :06:33.
sentences have increased a sense of security here. It has seriously | :06:33. | :06:36.
reduced the fear factor. People definitely thought these thugs and | :06:36. | :06:40.
criminals were coming back. When they saw the sentences from the | :06:40. | :06:43.
courts, they realised that the judiciary were on the side of | :06:43. | :06:46.
people in Manchester. The police are planning to release more | :06:46. | :06:53.
footage like this next week in the hope of identifying the rioters. | :06:53. | :06:56.
Here is one where they are trying to restore confidence, a constant | :06:56. | :07:00.
police presence at the top of Market Street in Piccadilly Gardens. | :07:00. | :07:06.
200 officers working full-time on this investigation now, already 218 | :07:06. | :07:13.
people have been arrested in connection with those... Here is an | :07:13. | :07:17.
interesting point, no fewer than 100 officers detailed to look at | :07:17. | :07:21.
CCTV footage which has come in a great folly in this, which will | :07:21. | :07:31.
:07:31. | :07:36. | ||
help the police to identify those responsible for last week's crimes. | :07:36. | :07:43.

people who saw him being put into a police van. Dale Burns was Taser | :08:15. | :08:20.
several times on Tuesday night as officers tried to arrest him on | :08:20. | :08:24.
suspicion of causing criminal damage. | :08:24. | :08:30.
On August 2nd, we reported on the cost of making telephone calls to | :08:30. | :08:34.
GPs' surgeries that used 084 numbers. Our report featured local | :08:35. | :08:38.
businessman Matthew Riley and the surgery lenders has operated by one | :08:38. | :08:42.
of the companies he runs. In the report we suggested that surgery | :08:42. | :08:46.
Lions pricing policy was unlawful. We gave the impression that the | :08:46. | :08:51.
business was under investigation. It was incorrect of us to do so. We | :08:51. | :08:57.
apologise to Mr Riley and the company for any damage caused. | :08:57. | :09:01.
So you've got a big public projects you want to build and no money to | :09:01. | :09:05.
pay for it. What do you do? The answer is private finance | :09:05. | :09:09.
initiatives. That is exactly how Liverpool's brand new Royal | :09:09. | :09:12.
Hospital is due to be funded, with a PFI. | :09:12. | :09:15.
But today, an influential government committee called for a | :09:15. | :09:20.
halt on the proposals. The Treasury report said it had serious doubt | :09:20. | :09:28.
the plan would offer value for money. | :09:28. | :09:35.

estates department has 1300 calls for maintenance failures last month. | :09:40. | :09:44.
A new hospital is planned, paid for with private cash in a PFI deal, | :09:44. | :09:50.
paid back over 30 years. But today, this report criticised PFI. It said | :09:50. | :09:53.
it was extremely inefficient. The Treasury committee had serious | :09:53. | :09:58.
doubts about its use. But urged the government to hold off on the new | :09:58. | :10:04.
hospital. -- it urged. We have to make sure these projects really do | :10:04. | :10:07.
bring value for money to the taxpayer and at the moment, that is | :10:07. | :10:13.
by no means clear. Right now, around 750 PFI projects are in the | :10:13. | :10:17.
pipeline, including this one. And yet only the Royal Hospital was | :10:17. | :10:21.
singled out in a report. If this is value for money, why do you think | :10:21. | :10:25.
amongst all of those hundreds of schemes you have been singled out? | :10:25. | :10:30.
Oh, I think it is because of the profile. This is a major acute | :10:30. | :10:34.
teaching hospital. I think all parties need to be involved. They | :10:34. | :10:37.
need to address this and we need to get rid of this delay. We need a | :10:37. | :10:43.
new hospital. The files as all cisterns go and that hasn't changed | :10:43. | :10:51.
today. Meetings are continuing. I spoke to one source who said that | :10:51. | :10:54.
this isn't the first report critical of PFI and will not be the | :10:54. | :10:59.
last. This man gave evidence to the committee. He has spent years | :10:59. | :11:06.
saying the sums don't add up. Was this his I told you so moment? | :11:06. | :11:09.
don't get any satisfaction out of it because the main aim is to stop | :11:09. | :11:13.
the scheme for going ahead. Will this make any difference? A one | :11:13. | :11:20.
would hope. The report is only advisory and yet -- we are yet to | :11:20. | :11:26.
see what the government does with the advice. If many were ripped up, | :11:26. | :11:30.
many became cycle paths but the old railway branch line is making a | :11:30. | :11:33.
comeback. Latest figures show that the makes | :11:33. | :11:38.
line to London via is one of the fastest growing in a country. | :11:38. | :11:42.
It has seen a surge in passengers in the last few years with more | :11:42. | :11:47.
people holidaying in the UK, rather than going abroad. | :11:47. | :11:53.
In that the black-and-white day needs of the... The plan sounds | :11:53. | :11:56.
were an endangered species. 4000 miles of rural railway lines were | :11:56. | :12:05.
scrapped. How times have changed. This is the Lakes line. It is | :12:05. | :12:10.
getting busier and busier. Welcome to this express service to | :12:10. | :12:15.
Windermere. We've had anything up to 100 people standing because it | :12:15. | :12:21.
has been so popular. When there are big events on like the airshow for | :12:21. | :12:25.
the Great North swim, it was absolutely packed. The rail | :12:25. | :12:31.
industry figures show that in 2007, 409,000 rail journeys ended on this | :12:31. | :12:36.
branch line. Last year, that figure had risen to 491,000. That's an | :12:36. | :12:40.
increase of about 20 %. The reasons for the rise are several. | :12:40. | :12:44.
Congestion has made roads less attractive, as has the price of | :12:44. | :12:49.
fuel. Trains have tempted passengers back. I live in Kendal | :12:49. | :12:52.
and am going to Windermere for a day's shopping. It is much easier | :12:52. | :13:02.
:13:02. | :13:03. | ||
than the bus. And it is cheaper. is the quicker way. Using it to get | :13:03. | :13:06.
home. We've been camping up here. If it wasn't for the train, we | :13:06. | :13:14.
would not have been here. It is the best way to travel. The trend for | :13:14. | :13:17.
people holidaying at home instead of abroad has also helped. It has | :13:17. | :13:22.
turned around because the country we live in his beautiful. There are | :13:22. | :13:25.
lots of fantastic scenery and beaches. There is lots of walks | :13:25. | :13:28.
people can go on. I think people are really appreciating that what | :13:28. | :13:33.
is on their doorstep is just as good as what is abroad. The big | :13:33. | :13:37.
test will be keeping passengers in future years and that could well | :13:37. | :13:47.
:13:47. | :13:50. | ||
come down to reliability and Still to come: I am on track with | :13:50. | :13:56.

Imagine a world where workers are literally tipped upside down by | :14:16. | :14:21.
notes. This is what happens in a show in Manchester this weekend. It | :14:22. | :14:25.
is an extraordinary aerial performance tackling climate change, | :14:25. | :14:35.
:14:35. | :14:43. | ||
part of Manchester's free festival A performance rolls into town, | :14:43. | :14:47.
turning the art world on its head and setting the stage for a big | :14:47. | :14:52.
night time finale. It is part of the platform four Festival, two | :14:52. | :14:59.
days and two night of celebrations in Manchester. | :14:59. | :15:03.
This company from Liverpool are the stars of the festival, with an | :15:03. | :15:13.
:15:13. | :15:14. | ||
aerial display titled "as the world tipped ." It is about office | :15:14. | :15:17.
workers going about their daily business when their world is | :15:17. | :15:21.
literally tipped upside down. based the show in the Copenhagen | :15:21. | :15:24.
conference, the conference that happened that really was a very | :15:24. | :15:28.
confusing conference all about climate change. It was meant to be | :15:28. | :15:32.
a turning point where everybody got on board and helped the world get | :15:32. | :15:38.
better, and Lowe are carbon emissions, and it didn't work. | :15:38. | :15:42.
extraordinary aerial display it is a collaboration with Nigel Jameson, | :15:42. | :15:46.
the creator of the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics and the | :15:46. | :15:49.
Liverpool capital of culture. has always been very passionate | :15:49. | :15:53.
about the issue of climate change. He thought it would be an amazing | :15:53. | :15:57.
metaphor for a world really tipping to a critical point, where we | :15:57. | :16:04.
cannot save ourselves any more. can see the performance tonight and | :16:04. | :16:14.
:16:14. | :16:15. | ||
tomorrow night at Castle Field It looks amazing! | :16:15. | :16:24.
Here is somebody who is amazing also! Richard is here with news of | :16:24. | :16:28.
Merseyside's big two. They operate under very different financial | :16:28. | :16:34.
circumstances, don't they? Kenny Dalglish has splashed out about | :16:34. | :16:38.
100 million since he took charge at Anfield. Everton wouldn't mind a | :16:38. | :16:42.
slice of that. First of all, Liverpool travel to Arsenal | :16:43. | :16:46.
tomorrow, the first class between Champions League hopefuls this | :16:46. | :16:50.
season. Arsenal have been in the spotlight with the departure of | :16:50. | :16:53.
Cesc Fabregas and the probable departure of Samir Nasri to | :16:53. | :16:58.
Manchester City. Roberto Mancini said today he hoped a deal would be | :16:58. | :17:01.
concluded but the Liverpool manager doesn't think the absence of | :17:01. | :17:07.
Fabregas or now three will make life easier. -- or Nasri. It will | :17:07. | :17:11.
not make things any easier for us. It will still be a difficult game | :17:12. | :17:20.
for us. We will get in there, and have the same feelings as we had | :17:20. | :17:24.
last year, it will be a difficult game, but then hopefully we can | :17:24. | :17:30.
make things as difficult for them as they make it for us. Everton | :17:30. | :17:36.
finally kick-off against QPR this weekend after the Tottenham game | :17:36. | :17:42.
was postponed. A different story there. We have talked about | :17:42. | :17:45.
Everton's search for new investment, possibly a buyer. They just about | :17:45. | :17:49.
break even but to try to move forward and keep up with the likes | :17:49. | :17:54.
of Liverpool, City and United, they need cash. Bill Kenwright has said | :17:54. | :17:59.
for some time that he is prepared to sell. He says he cannot find | :17:59. | :18:08.
anyone, and recently spoke to a group of supporters to outline why. | :18:08. | :18:18.
:18:18. | :18:22. | ||
How is all of this affecting the mood at the club? I went along | :18:22. | :18:29.
today to find out. I wish the season had started last week. | :18:29. | :18:32.
season with familiar financial problems still there. The Blues | :18:32. | :18:35.
haven't brought in a single permanent new player in the | :18:35. | :18:39.
transfer window. Not everybody will be gifted with lots of money to | :18:39. | :18:44.
spend. You have to work without it. We do our best with what we have. | :18:44. | :18:51.
We have a good chairman who does everything he can for the club. I | :18:51. | :18:54.
hope we have a manager who can make the club work. It is difficult | :18:54. | :18:59.
times. Chairman Bill Kenwright declined an interview request, but | :19:00. | :19:03.
the talk among supporters is about a meeting he agreed to with a small | :19:03. | :19:07.
group of fans, who wanted answers about why the club couldn't find a | :19:07. | :19:13.
buyer. I don't think Bill Kenwright is the best person to sell Everton | :19:13. | :19:17.
Football Club. He may think he is, I don't think he is. The vast | :19:17. | :19:21.
majority of the fan base don't think he is. The proof of the | :19:21. | :19:26.
pudding is in the eating. He has tried to sell us 24/7 of the last | :19:26. | :19:32.
11 years and has been unsuccessful. We need alternatives. Fans will | :19:32. | :19:36.
take comfort in the players they do have, Fellaini, Jagielka and Baines, | :19:36. | :19:41.
who will all wear Everton blue tomorrow. Their other stars says | :19:41. | :19:46.
with little cash for new talent, keeping talent for performers -- | :19:46. | :19:50.
talented performers is key -- one of their other stars. It is | :19:50. | :19:57.
important now and for the future of the club. Tamara's visit is -- | :19:57. | :20:03.
tomorrow's visitors to couldn't -- Goodison Park, QPR... It may add to | :20:03. | :20:08.
a sense of frustration for a club which at the moment cannot seem to | :20:08. | :20:18.

Tomorrow is Football Focus at 12:15pm. In cricket, Lancashire's | :20:24. | :20:27.
latest County Championship match in Blackpool is in the balance. | :20:27. | :20:32.
Lancashire made 248 in their second innings, Karl Brown hitting 85, | :20:32. | :20:38.
leaving Worcestershire a tricky 329 to win. Two late wickets left them | :20:38. | :20:42.
on 201-five, putting the red rose favourites to wrap up a win | :20:42. | :20:51.
tomorrow. BMX rider has been the latest sport to take part in London | :20:51. | :20:54.
today. In the north-west, the next | :20:54. | :20:58.
generation of BMX Olympic hopefuls have been given a big boost with | :20:58. | :21:01.
the opening of the Manchester indoor track, the first in the | :21:01. | :21:11.
:21:11. | :21:17. | ||
Paddy, Ross and Kim are definitely three to watch, but blink and you | :21:17. | :21:24.
will miss them. How many trophies have you got? | :21:24. | :21:34.
:21:34. | :21:36. | ||
About a year ago when I checked, I had 98. I have about 108 now. | :21:36. | :21:39.
want to become world champion and when I'm older, trained for the | :21:39. | :21:46.
Olympics. Now I have a van with my name on it and everything. People | :21:47. | :21:54.
come up to me asking me for stickers and things like that. | :21:54. | :22:00.
did my first race when I was little and my brother wanted me to have a | :22:00. | :22:04.
go, I didn't want to at first but I tried it and they liked it. Last | :22:04. | :22:09.
year I won every race I did. This 24 million facility opened last | :22:09. | :22:13.
year, enabling riders like Paddy to train here in the winter when | :22:13. | :22:16.
outdoor tracks are frozen, and should give the north-west a big | :22:16. | :22:20.
advantage over riders from other regions. They have already done | :22:20. | :22:25.
very well, but they are still only young and have a lot to learn. This | :22:25. | :22:29.
facility will help provide that. With the next world championships | :22:29. | :22:34.
in Britain, this trio will be hoping practice makes perfect and | :22:34. | :22:44.
:22:44. | :22:50. | ||
They look pretty fearsome! 98 trophies, as well, astonishing. | :22:50. | :22:59.
Good luck to Matthew Patten, who takes on the IBF intercontinental | :22:59. | :23:03.
welterweight challenge tonight in Blackpool. You mentioned Lancashire | :23:03. | :23:08.
getting two late wickets, but they need a dry day tomorrow. Will they | :23:08. | :23:16.
If they get out early, it could be dry. Tomorrow is very much like | :23:16. | :23:25.
today. This is how the weekend shapes up. Saturday dry and Sunday | :23:25. | :23:30.
next, not too many showers, fingers crossed. The best weather was first | :23:30. | :23:33.
thing up until lunchtime, with the sun with many of us and it was | :23:33. | :23:36.
quite pleasant. Over the last couple of hours the cloud has | :23:37. | :23:40.
rolled in, as has a line of showers that moved through the region. | :23:40. | :23:45.
There are still one or two around if you are going out. Cloud is | :23:45. | :23:48.
beginning all the time and as we head through the first part of the | :23:48. | :23:51.
night, the next area of rain is waiting. When the sun goes down, | :23:51. | :23:56.
most of us will see the worst of it. Even then, it is light and patchy. | :23:56. | :24:00.
Like last night, it moves through shortly after midnight and in the | :24:00. | :24:04.
early morning, it starts to dry everywhere. I would like to say | :24:04. | :24:07.
clear but not too many clear spells. That is positive really, because | :24:07. | :24:13.
last night it was nippy. Tonight temperatures between 9-13 foremost, | :24:13. | :24:19.
maybe 40 will 15, so relatively mild. -- For most of us. Saturday, | :24:19. | :24:23.
best were the first thing, cloud at the start then it thins with spells | :24:23. | :24:27.
of sunshine in the morning. From the south-west to the day it will | :24:27. | :24:31.
cloud up, so Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man hang on to the | :24:31. | :24:35.
dry weather longest. Perhaps until teatime particularly on the Isle of | :24:35. | :24:39.
Man, but for many of us as the day goes on, this line of rain starts | :24:39. | :24:43.
to work its way in and becomes more widespread as we head towards | :24:43. | :24:48.
teatime. In terms of temperatures, 19 or 20 degrees. The rain takes | :24:48. | :24:51.
hold tomorrow night. Not a great picture, but once it has gone on | :24:51. | :24:55.
Sunday, it is the nature of sunny spells and scattered showers and | :24:55. | :25:05.
:25:05. | :25:08. | ||
fingers crossed not to many showers Thank you. Any new addition to the | :25:08. | :25:11.
family is exciting but when four come along at once it is extra | :25:12. | :25:17.
special, so imagine the joy at Chester Zoo as they celebrated the | :25:17. | :25:24.
birth of these four Cheetah cubs. The feisty nature of the female | :25:24. | :25:27.
Cheetah has made it one of their biggest challenges ever. | :25:27. | :25:30.
Like most new arrivals, they have no idea how special they are and | :25:30. | :25:35.
how worried mum is already. Sudanese tutors have only ever been | :25:35. | :25:39.
bred in a European zoo once before, and Chester has been preparing for | :25:39. | :25:44.
this for more than three years. -- Sudanese cheetahs. So the team is | :25:44. | :25:48.
delighted. It is the big smile on your face, it is fantastic to put | :25:48. | :25:52.
together this plan and for the team to have carried it out. The credit | :25:52. | :25:56.
goes to these guys, and the cheetahs, for being able to do this. | :25:56. | :26:01.
The challenge of bringing these cubs in to the world has been big, | :26:01. | :26:04.
sadly Cheetah mums and dads don't spend much time together apart from | :26:04. | :26:09.
the big moment. It is often tricky catching on in the right mood. Just | :26:09. | :26:13.
like with new kittens, the cubs need to be vaccinated and wormed as | :26:13. | :26:16.
well as being given a unique microchip which will prove | :26:16. | :26:21.
essential when they go on to breed. With fewer than 10,000 left in the | :26:21. | :26:26.
wild, reproduction in captivity is growing even more important. | :26:26. | :26:30.
they are all identified, they will stay with them for the rest of | :26:30. | :26:34.
their lives. I found myself admiring the female Cheetah. She | :26:34. | :26:38.
lives independently and will only interact with the male in order to | :26:38. | :26:42.
breed. When she wants to she will take him on in a fight, and often, | :26:42. | :26:47.
she will win. Not very romantic, and partly why it has proven so | :26:47. | :26:51.
difficult to breed them, but the team here in Chester say now they | :26:51. | :26:59.
know how, they hope they will be -- there will be many more to come. | :26:59. | :27:05.
He just story of the week! Lots of laughing about the differences | :27:05. | :27:15.
