Good evening. Welcome to North West Tonight with Gordon Burns and | :00:04. | :00:10.
Ranvir Singh. Our top story. Just weeks after her wedding, Gemma | :00:10. | :00:13.
Redmond says goodbye to her husband Ian, killed by a shark on their | :00:13. | :00:19.
honeymoon. I always longed for you to come back out of the sea and be | :00:20. | :00:25.
back with me. Hundreds of mourners turn out at a Lancashire church to | :00:25. | :00:28.
pay their respects. Also tonight. | :00:29. | :00:32.
Concern for the safety of a 21- year-old man after the body of his | :00:32. | :00:36.
girlfriend is found on a beach on the Wirral. | :00:36. | :00:39.
Tunnel vision, why a luxury car maker went underground in Liverpool | :00:39. | :00:48.
to show off its latest model. And a blue plaque for a comedy | :00:48. | :00:53.
legend as Private Pike pays tribute to the great Arthur Lowe. He's half | :00:53. | :00:58.
barmy, so's his army, whistle while you work. Your name will also go on | :00:58. | :01:08.
:01:08. | :01:18. | ||
the list. What is it? Don't tell Less than a month ago, Ian and | :01:18. | :01:20.
Gemma Redmond married at their small family church in Lancashire | :01:20. | :01:25.
and looked forward to a long life together. Today Gemma laid her | :01:25. | :01:30.
husband Ian to rest at that same small church. Ian died after being | :01:30. | :01:34.
attacked by a shark while on honeymoon in the Seychelles. | :01:34. | :01:36.
Mourners packed the church and heard Gemma pay tribute to her | :01:37. | :01:46.
:01:47. | :01:52. | ||
perfect, courageous and inspiring With the support of her family, | :01:52. | :01:57.
Gemma Redmond was determined to get through, to thank her husband Ian | :01:57. | :02:03.
for the time they had together. They took the same path they had | :02:03. | :02:07.
taken to their wedding on 6th August, a few short weeks ago. | :02:07. | :02:11.
Inside the church, Jeanette read out a letter she had written for | :02:11. | :02:18.
her husband. When we first met each other, almost nine years ago, I | :02:18. | :02:22.
remember being overwhelmed by a desire to become a part of your | :02:22. | :02:28.
world. He was so full of life, exciting, fun, and you were maimed | :02:28. | :02:32.
so until the day we lost two. They had just 10 days together as man | :02:32. | :02:42.
:02:42. | :02:47. | ||
and wife before a a shark attack Each and every time I watched you | :02:47. | :02:51.
snorkel, I could never believe I was married to you. You were the | :02:51. | :02:55.
most handsome and perfect man I had ever seen, and I always longed for | :02:55. | :03:00.
you to come back out of the sea and be back with me. The service was | :03:01. | :03:04.
conducted by the same man who married a couple. It is not what | :03:04. | :03:11.
you expect, what it is what you have to do. There concern is | :03:11. | :03:18.
thinking about the family. A much- loved son, brother and friend, and | :03:18. | :03:22.
a much loved husband. You completed me and other best thing that has | :03:22. | :03:28.
ever happened to me. All my love, now, forever and always, your wife, | :03:28. | :03:37.
Gemma. The service concluded with music | :03:37. | :03:47.
:03:47. | :03:48. | ||
chosen by Gemma to on him. -- two Police investigating the death of a | :03:48. | :03:51.
woman found on a beach in Wirral are growing increasingly concerned | :03:51. | :03:55.
for the welfare of her boyfriend. Hayley Holmes' body was discovered | :03:55. | :03:59.
yesterday morning at Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton. Her boyfriend | :03:59. | :04:02.
Robbie Crofts hasn't been seen since Sunday. Stuart Pollitt | :04:02. | :04:08.
reports. Police fear it was these waters | :04:08. | :04:12.
which claimed the lives of Hayley Holmes and Robbie Crofts. A dog | :04:12. | :04:18.
walker found Haley's body yesterday morning, near by a pair of women's | :04:18. | :04:22.
sandals, men's trainers and a nearby mobile phone were found. | :04:22. | :04:26.
Police believe they belong to the couple. There is a strong | :04:26. | :04:29.
possibility, with her body being found on the beach, we believe she | :04:30. | :04:34.
has been into the water, that is a strong possibility that has | :04:34. | :04:38.
happened to Robbie. We are keeping an open mind. Lobby's family are | :04:38. | :04:42.
keeping up hope that if he is still alive, appealing on Facebook to try | :04:42. | :04:46.
and trace him. His family have written that they just want him to | :04:46. | :04:51.
come home. Hayley's family have already used Facebook to set up a | :04:51. | :04:55.
page in her memory. The family are very distraught in this time, they | :04:55. | :05:00.
were informed of what happened yesterday. They were distraught. | :05:00. | :05:04.
The couple had spent Sunday at Liverpool's Mathew Street Festival. | :05:04. | :05:08.
They then returned to New Brighton. What happened next is unclear, but | :05:09. | :05:14.
one young life has already been lost, and one family is left | :05:14. | :05:18.
fearing the worst. A man has been jailed for life for | :05:18. | :05:20.
stabbing to death a man in Hattersley earlier this year. Peter | :05:20. | :05:23.
Boustead was found at his home with multiple stab wounds nearly six | :05:23. | :05:27.
months ago. Adam Hamnett, who was known to the victim, pleaded guilty | :05:27. | :05:31.
to murder at Manchester Crown Court today. | :05:31. | :05:33.
A man has pleaded guilty to blackmailing Wayne Rooney's wife, | :05:33. | :05:38.
Coleen. Lee Platt demanded money to return her phone, thought to | :05:38. | :05:40.
contain family photos, which she'd lost at a concert in Manchester | :05:40. | :05:46.
last year. More than 50 sea birds covered in | :05:46. | :05:50.
thick oil have been washed up on the Isle of Man. The cause of the | :05:50. | :05:53.
oil spill is not yet known. Although many have already died, | :05:53. | :05:55.
welfare officers have been searching beaches at Port Erin and | :05:55. | :06:03.
Peel for injured birds and taking them to a local sanctuary. | :06:03. | :06:07.
The main thing is to get them into the unit quickly, so we can wash | :06:07. | :06:13.
them up with the warm, soapy water. We have to wash them right through, | :06:13. | :06:16.
we take all of the oil off, take all of the goodness out of the | :06:16. | :06:21.
feathers. Then we have to rinse them dry and put them under a heat | :06:21. | :06:24.
lamp. In under an hour's time, around 80 | :06:24. | :06:27.
Bolton residents will gather to fight for the future of two care | :06:27. | :06:30.
homes. There is a question mark over the future of Wilfred Geere | :06:30. | :06:34.
and Laburnum Lodge which both look after patients with severe dementia. | :06:34. | :06:38.
They are the last remaining council run care homes in Bolton. But as | :06:38. | :06:46.
Nina Warhurst reports, relatives say they must be protected. | :06:46. | :06:52.
Did you enjoy your dinner? Yes. Betty only lasted six weeks in a | :06:52. | :06:56.
private home because her carers could not hope. -- could not cope. | :06:56. | :07:00.
It has been at Wilfred Geere, run by the council, where she is | :07:00. | :07:04.
happiest. I do Norrie about her because I know she is well looked | :07:04. | :07:11.
after. -- I do not worry about her. I do not know what we would do if | :07:11. | :07:16.
it closed. Bolton council has to make savings of more than 4 | :07:16. | :07:20.
million in adult care, so the futures of Wilfred Geere and | :07:20. | :07:24.
Laburnum Lodge, five miles away, are under review. Bolton council | :07:24. | :07:28.
today declined an interview saying that because the reviews are still | :07:28. | :07:32.
ongoing, there is no comment to make. They told us for a bed -- | :07:32. | :07:39.
residents at the to care homes had been called -- had been told they | :07:39. | :07:43.
will stay as long as they once. But the council could not guarantee the | :07:43. | :07:49.
care homes what stay open. You have got to hold on very tight! You are | :07:49. | :07:53.
running away with me. Over the past three years of coming to see her | :07:53. | :07:56.
husband, Christina says she has watched Wilfred Geere deteriorate | :07:56. | :08:01.
and believes it is a deliberately attempts by the council to shut it | :08:01. | :08:06.
down. It has taken a lot of councillors a lot of high work to | :08:06. | :08:09.
reach their standard. It could be destroyed in months. Please don't | :08:09. | :08:14.
do it. Christina says Ken will not live to see the outcome of the | :08:14. | :08:18.
review, but Bolton council says there is a possibility that both | :08:18. | :08:22.
players will remain untouched. Tonight supporters will gather to | :08:22. | :08:26.
try and make sure they are. After a huge battle against | :08:26. | :08:29.
pollution, the Mersey has finally made it into a top ten of most | :08:29. | :08:32.
improved rivers. After decades of industrial abuse, commercial | :08:32. | :08:38.
fishing ground to a halt in the 1940s. By the early '80s, it was | :08:38. | :08:43.
declared the most polluted river in Europe. Then followed 1 billion | :08:43. | :08:47.
clean up. Today's inclusion by the Environment Agency in its list of | :08:47. | :08:50.
most cleaned up waterways marks a welcome new chapter in the river's | :08:50. | :09:00.
:09:00. | :09:00. | ||
fortunes. Andy Gill is at the waterfront in Liverpool for us. | :09:00. | :09:05.
Here is the Mersey, looking Brown as usual, that is natural, it is | :09:05. | :09:10.
the silts, not pollution. The Environment Agency says it is | :09:10. | :09:17.
cleaner that it has been in 100 years. So clean, they say you | :09:17. | :09:22.
should take a walk around it. You may see otters, seals, and if you | :09:22. | :09:29.
are locker -- lucky enough, you will see several species of fish. | :09:29. | :09:34.
Neville Goff, angling of the Mersey in Warrington this afternoon. | :09:34. | :09:39.
is a rich. Neville has been fishing here for six years, and has noticed | :09:39. | :09:44.
a definite improvement in the water. I think it is becoming one of the | :09:44. | :09:49.
best rivers in the country, I would say. It is clean, it looks clean. | :09:49. | :09:55.
It was very murky. It was not always so. As the heartbeat of the | :09:55. | :09:59.
North West's Industrial Revolution, chemicals, industrial waste and raw | :10:00. | :10:06.
sewage poured into this the Mersey and -- unchecked. It stank and was | :10:06. | :10:15.
once described as an affront to civilise Society. But now it is in | :10:15. | :10:18.
the Environment Agency top 10 most improved rivers. A number of | :10:18. | :10:22.
factors have made the Mersey clean- up. Tighter controls on industrial | :10:22. | :10:28.
pollution and harsher penalties on those who break the law. We no | :10:28. | :10:31.
longer pump sewage into the Mersey, and farmers are using fewer | :10:31. | :10:37.
chemicals which can run into the river. The Mersey even has salmon, | :10:37. | :10:41.
fish notoriously susceptible to pollution. As someone who has | :10:41. | :10:47.
worked around it for the last 20 years, it is fantastic. It means | :10:47. | :10:53.
the last work you have been doing has come to fruition. Now the | :10:53. | :10:57.
challenge is keeping it clean. The Environment Agency wants the Mersey | :10:57. | :10:59.
strong enough to recover should there be a big pollution spill in | :10:59. | :11:03.
the future. Nobody is pretending the Mersey is | :11:03. | :11:09.
absolutely pure and drinkable, far from it. In 2015, there are new EU | :11:09. | :11:13.
regulations coming in on water quality and river environment, so | :11:13. | :11:16.
the government and the Environment Agency are going to have to spend | :11:16. | :11:20.
more money on getting the rivers up to this -- the standard that Europe | :11:20. | :11:26.
once. The trick will be trying to keep the Mersey as clean as it is | :11:26. | :11:30.
now, and making sure it stays that way in the future. | :11:30. | :11:33.
Still to come in North West Tonight. The latest challenge for Olympic | :11:33. | :11:38.
medalist Steve Parry, swimming the Irish Sea. | :11:38. | :11:41.
An honour for Arthur as a whole village falls in to pay tribute to | :11:41. | :11:51.
:11:51. | :11:58. | ||
We will be talking to Private Pike shortly. | :11:58. | :12:00.
Thousands of Muslims throughout the North West are celebrating Eid | :12:00. | :12:02.
today while other communities will start their celebrations tomorrow. | :12:02. | :12:05.
Eid, which means festivity, is an important date in the Muslim | :12:05. | :12:08.
calendar. It marks the end of the fasting period of Ramadan so people | :12:08. | :12:12.
are keen to celebrate. Kate Simms is the heart of Manchester's curry | :12:12. | :12:19.
mile for us now. What a lovely place to be on a night like this! | :12:19. | :12:25.
It is, I cannot tell you how nice it smells. Eid Mubarak from | :12:25. | :12:29.
Rusholme, they are gearing up for a nice night. There are cones out to | :12:30. | :12:34.
cope with the traffic. Food plays a big part. If you come over here, | :12:34. | :12:38.
this is one of many of the restaurants which is filling up. It | :12:38. | :12:42.
plays a huge part. I have been talking to people about what their | :12:42. | :12:46.
plans are this evening. We will be enjoying ourselves, it is a | :12:46. | :12:50.
religious day. Thanking God for the blessing of food. Getting them | :12:50. | :12:54.
family together. You go out, you see everyone coming together. It is | :12:54. | :13:04.
:13:04. | :13:06. | ||
nice. People come from all over to Rusholme, all over the country. | :13:06. | :13:10.
Police patrols have been up in the area. They are urging people to | :13:10. | :13:13.
party responsibly. One person who will be doing that is Councillor | :13:13. | :13:20.
Afzal Khan, from the Manchester Council of mark its -- mosques. | :13:20. | :13:24.
had just finished Rahmat sandwiches about fasting in the day, opening | :13:24. | :13:34.
:13:34. | :13:34. | ||
the fast. -- a we have just finished runner down. It is about | :13:34. | :13:40.
giving to charity. It is a family day. The atmosphere is building | :13:40. | :13:45.
here. What you see is thousands of young people, families, coming here | :13:45. | :13:49.
and enjoying ourselves. What would your message be to the partygoers? | :13:49. | :13:54.
We have just done the month, the discipline is good community | :13:54. | :13:58.
cohesion and working for charity, keeping up the spirit as a family, | :13:58. | :14:02.
but enjoy yourself, it is Manchester. It is not just tonight, | :14:02. | :14:06.
tomorrow night as well? Yes, today's come up good for the | :14:06. | :14:16.
:14:16. | :14:20. | ||
economy. Well Eid Mubarak, We do not expect to see any time | :14:20. | :14:22.
soon! It's received a warm welcome from | :14:22. | :14:25.
journalists all over the world. The new Range Rover Evoque which goes | :14:25. | :14:29.
on sale this week is built with pride in Halewood. Very often, car | :14:29. | :14:31.
makers will fly motoring writers to hot and sunny Continental locations | :14:31. | :14:35.
to show off their models. But this time, they opted for somewhere much | :14:35. | :14:44.
closer to home. Jayne Barrett reports. | :14:44. | :14:47.
Over the past six weeks, journalists have flown into | :14:47. | :14:52.
Liverpool, 1000 reporters from 60 different countries. Here for one | :14:52. | :15:02.
:15:02. | :15:04. | ||
We are publicly saying that this car will be our best selling car, | :15:04. | :15:08.
we are very confident of that. We do not quote sales figures because | :15:08. | :15:13.
they often come back and haunt us. Suffice to say, we are forecasting | :15:13. | :15:16.
to it sell more now than we were told months ago, and more than two | :15:16. | :15:23.
of us before that as well. -- 12 months before that as well. And it | :15:23. | :15:28.
has got five-star reviews across the world. Weather headlines happen | :15:28. | :15:33.
matters. As the squeeze is still felt in Europe and America, they | :15:33. | :15:37.
hoped new markets like Russia and China will make up for any | :15:37. | :15:42.
potential loss. Are we ready for the ride? On Liverpool's waterfront, | :15:42. | :15:46.
the Test tries became something of a tourist attraction. Eventually | :15:46. | :15:50.
opened up to the public to raise money for charity. In the end, it | :15:50. | :15:54.
was not just the car being sold, but the city itself. | :15:54. | :16:00.
journalists in the city from South America, America, Canada, January - | :16:00. | :16:05.
- Russia, Japan, Australia, China, and the whole of Europe, can you | :16:05. | :16:11.
imagine? And they came... A they came for the car, but did they go | :16:11. | :16:14.
away thinking it was something more than that? | :16:14. | :16:19.
They went away fall in love with Liverpool. One national newspaper | :16:19. | :16:24.
wondered if the car had been overshadowed by the beauty of the | :16:24. | :16:29.
city itself. That was on the Daily Mail, and last weekend they sent a | :16:29. | :16:34.
reporter back here to do another feature as it as a tourist city. | :16:34. | :16:39.
That is how the PR machine works. Part of the test drive is through | :16:39. | :16:44.
the abandoned Wapping tunnel, deep through the city. It has even | :16:44. | :16:50.
sparked talk about reopening it. But for now, all eyes on the Evoque | :16:50. | :17:00.
:17:00. | :17:05. | ||
which officially goes on sale in Wigan's Sam Tomkins has been | :17:05. | :17:08.
disciplined for his two fingered gesture at Leeds Rhinos fans during | :17:08. | :17:11.
Saturday's Challenge Cup final. The player, seen here waving during | :17:11. | :17:18.
Wigan's homecoming on Sunday, has been fined 1,000. The 22-year-old | :17:18. | :17:21.
has apologised to Leeds and their supporters for his behaviour. | :17:21. | :17:24.
Now, you'd think winning an Olympic medal would be challenging enough. | :17:24. | :17:27.
But not for the likes of Liverpool swimmer Steve Parry. He's agreed to | :17:27. | :17:30.
team up with nine celebrities including Ronan Keating to swim a | :17:30. | :17:33.
relay across the Irish Sea. They hope to raise 1 million for a | :17:33. | :17:43.
charity close to Steve's heart. Tough? Not with Tony Livesey's help. | :17:43. | :17:49.
0, the Irish Sea, full of perils, huge waves, freezing temperatures | :17:49. | :17:55.
and jellyfish as big as dustbin lids! Tony, what are you on about? | :17:55. | :18:00.
There is chopper over there. Can I have a marshmallow? So it is not | :18:00. | :18:05.
quite the Irish Sea, but the Salford water sports centre is | :18:05. | :18:08.
where Steve has been preparing for his 51 mile marathon swim from | :18:08. | :18:13.
Holyhead to Dublin. My pace, look at it here, matches that as some of | :18:14. | :18:19.
the celebrities he will be teaming up with. Look at him when he hits | :18:19. | :18:28.
his speed. The big question is, why are you doing it? I got testicular | :18:28. | :18:32.
cancer two years ago now. It came as a bit of a shock. Only six years | :18:32. | :18:36.
ago, I had won an Olympic medal, you think you are bullet-proof and | :18:37. | :18:42.
Newtown you have cancer. It is the people around you. My wife lost a | :18:42. | :18:47.
sister, for her to deal with it was really tough. How did you feel, | :18:47. | :18:50.
when the weather's all-conquering athlete who was brought down by | :18:50. | :18:55.
something that brings down millions of people? I never thought it would | :18:55. | :18:59.
happen. You win a medal at the Olympic Games, you do things, I am | :18:59. | :19:04.
quite lucky in terms of the things I get to do, and I nonchalantly | :19:04. | :19:10.
wandered into an ultrasound scan one day, and I walked out in tears. | :19:10. | :19:14.
Steve's 3 months away from getting the all-clear and his message for | :19:14. | :19:22.
any men without his, get your daughter -- Dr. -- for any men with | :19:22. | :19:32.
:19:32. | :19:36. | ||
He is such a boy at heart! We had some really good informed | :19:36. | :19:38.
handover to the weather at the end of last week. | :19:38. | :19:48.
:19:48. | :19:52. | ||
Did we? Why? Because someone else I have lost my voice, even though I | :19:52. | :19:59.
have been on holiday! The weather will be better than it | :19:59. | :20:02.
was over the weekend, and that is better news. Over the next couple | :20:02. | :20:09.
of days, we will see bright spells from time to time. Three the day to | :20:09. | :20:13.
day, we have held on to the weather that played us through the weekend. | :20:13. | :20:23.
Very grey, quite breezy. Quite cool. You will have noticed, and you may | :20:23. | :20:26.
have experienced one or two showers running through the region through | :20:26. | :20:32.
the afternoon. This is the latest picture, that is how we like it, | :20:32. | :20:37.
this should be dry for the time being. The cloud cover of an starts | :20:37. | :20:45.
to thin and break, and in one or two spots, temperatures go as low | :20:45. | :20:48.
as eight degrees. The drift is coming in from the Irish Sea, there | :20:49. | :20:53.
could be a light shower coming in with it. Most of us will be dry | :20:53. | :21:02.
after midnight. The breeze will keep the coast a bit warmer. When | :21:02. | :21:07.
you get up first thing tomorrow, it will feel fairly cold. The picture | :21:07. | :21:11.
for tomorrow is not stunning but better than today. There is an | :21:11. | :21:16.
awful lot of cloud cover on the map. It tries too thin and break every | :21:16. | :21:25.
now and then for some sunshine. In other places, there will be a bit | :21:25. | :21:35.
of sunshine and a few very light showers. The wind direction, it is | :21:35. | :21:41.
light and variable, it does not influence as. It is a quiet day. | :21:41. | :21:45.
The best day of the week will probably be Thursday. As we head | :21:45. | :21:53.
towards the weekend, it becomes It was one of TV's hits of the | :21:53. | :21:57.
seventies and remains popular today. Dad's Army, the story of a Home | :21:57. | :22:03.
Guard unit in World War Two, made household names of its stars. Top | :22:03. | :22:06.
of the bill was Arthur Lowe, who played the self righteous Captain | :22:06. | :22:09.
Mainwaring. Arthur was born in Derbyshire and today a blue plaque | :22:09. | :22:17.
was unveiled at his birthplace. Stuart Flinders was there. | :22:17. | :22:26.
Mike unit is a hand-picked band of ruthless fighting men. Arthur Lowe | :22:26. | :22:30.
as Captain Mainwaring, one of television was my greatest comic | :22:30. | :22:34.
creations. Before Dad's Army, there was a lifetime of theatre and | :22:34. | :22:39.
cinema part, including a role in Coronation Street. But the story | :22:39. | :22:43.
starts here in the Derbyshire village of hay field in 1915. This | :22:43. | :22:47.
is where Arthur Lowe was born, and today a plaque was unveiled in his | :22:47. | :22:53.
honour by Ian Lavender. As young Private Pike, he found himself | :22:54. | :22:58.
surrounded by veterans of stage and film. They were up there on the big | :22:58. | :23:04.
screen and on the TV and I was working with them. It was enormous. | :23:04. | :23:08.
Did Arthur Lowe do anything to put you at your ease? Not particularly, | :23:08. | :23:16.
no! He was not that sort of person. He's half balmy, so's his army, | :23:16. | :23:20.
whistle While You Work. Your name will also go on the list. What is | :23:20. | :23:27.
it? Don't tell him, Pike! In 19 City six, of the brought the Dad's | :23:27. | :23:32.
Army team to Hayfield to raise money for the cricket club. Lot of | :23:32. | :23:39.
people must have come and seen the cast. Time for a personal favourite, | :23:39. | :23:45.
after playing Captain Mainwaring and his drunken brother. Don't get | :23:45. | :23:53.
drunk. It runs in the family. does not. It does in my branch. | :23:53. | :23:58.
What was he like, Captain Mainwaring? Since he was built | :23:59. | :24:05.
around him, the answer is, he was very similar. I like him, I quite | :24:05. | :24:12.
admire him. He was pompous, wasn't him? I like pompous people. Arthur | :24:12. | :24:18.
kept a house in Hayfield until his death. The village maintains an | :24:18. | :24:26.
affection for him. Earlier, we had a longer chat with | :24:26. | :24:29.
Private Pike. We asked him how he thinks of a would have felt about | :24:29. | :24:34.
today's ceremony. He would have been very pleased, but, no, no, I | :24:34. | :24:39.
don't want any of that. He would have been warm inside. You worked | :24:39. | :24:44.
with him for a long time on both television and on radio programmes, | :24:44. | :24:51.
were there any real similarities between Arthur Lowe demand and the | :24:51. | :24:57.
character he played, the pompous, bumbling Captain Mainwaring? Simply, | :24:57. | :25:07.
:25:07. | :25:09. | ||
the answer is yes. He was... Captain Mainwaring was a pompous | :25:09. | :25:13.
little man, but the difference was that Arthur put that bubble wrap | :25:13. | :25:20.
himself as a form of protection. He was not terribly happy with | :25:20. | :25:25.
celebrity. He valued his privacy very much. So he put this bubble of | :25:25. | :25:29.
pomposity around himself which he burst. He allowed you to come in | :25:29. | :25:33.
when he decided. In the programmes, it was other people who burst the | :25:33. | :25:40.
bubble. I suppose in 1968 when you started making Dad's Army, none of | :25:40. | :25:44.
you could have guessed that all these later yes -- later, people | :25:44. | :25:50.
would be still loving it and talking about it. No, it was just a | :25:50. | :25:55.
nice summer's work when we did it. Everyone wants to be successful but | :25:55. | :25:59.
we were not going, this is grand. We did another series, and then a | :25:59. | :26:04.
third, and started to realise, it is popular and people like it. | :26:04. | :26:11.
my favourite of all time, his line, don't tell him, Pike, when the | :26:11. | :26:15.
German officer was asking for pike's name, do you remember that | :26:15. | :26:22.
line? Did you know it was a great line? You rehearse for a week, you | :26:22. | :26:25.
hope you think you know which other funny lines, and this was a funny | :26:25. | :26:31.
line. We knew it was a very good episode. I did say to David Croft, | :26:31. | :26:36.
please could you go somewhere us for a reaction because even after a | :26:36. | :26:41.
week's rehearsal, you could not -- I could not keep my face straight. | :26:41. | :26:48.
If you notice, at the end, I actually draw blood inside my mouth | :26:48. | :26:50.
biting the inside of my cheek trying not to laugh, even after a | :26:50. | :26:54.
week's rehearsal. I still found it very funny. Nearly fell off the | :26:54. | :26:59.
ladder! IM resisted saying, it stupid boy, I have always wanted to | :26:59. | :27:05.
say yet excite you can say it! you are at arm's right, I might | :27:06. | :27:14.
reach for you! We asked him if he still had the | :27:14. | :27:18.
scarf. He said, yes, I stole it! | :27:18. | :27:20. |
