German u`boat. Remembering those who died on the Lusitania a hundred | :00:44. | :00:53.
years ago. Join us on north`western eight at the home of ballroom | :00:54. | :00:59.
dancing as we show you some Saturday night dancing. Roger is not here. He | :01:00. | :01:14.
is out and about, helping to make homes for Pudsey and he has someone | :01:15. | :01:21.
rather special with him. We are alive in Manchester tonight | :01:22. | :01:23.
with all the fundraisers for Children In Need. Steve has been | :01:24. | :01:30.
raising money today, Pudsey has been raising money and, look, Chris and | :01:31. | :01:38.
Hacker the dog from CBBC. Look at the state of that! I will have a | :01:39. | :01:47.
word. We will hear also from the Northwest Quire, they will be taking | :01:48. | :01:51.
part in a big single later in the evening for Children In Need. We | :01:52. | :01:58.
will have a sneak preview of the song a little bit later. We are on | :01:59. | :02:04.
two level the night as well, join us later in the programme for all the | :02:05. | :02:09.
fun of Children In Need to find out what you have been doing to raise | :02:10. | :02:11.
money. We are looking forward to it. | :02:12. | :02:15.
We start tonight with some good jobs news today from Lancashire. BAE | :02:16. | :02:19.
Systems seems set to announce a ?6 billion deal to supply the United | :02:20. | :02:22.
Arab Emirates with dozens of Typhoon fighter jets. The news should be | :02:23. | :02:25.
announced at the Dubai International Airshow on Sunday, helping to | :02:26. | :02:28.
safeguard thousands of jobs at the company's two Lancashire factories. | :02:29. | :02:36.
Mark Edwardson reports. Britain and the United Arab emirates | :02:37. | :02:39.
have a long and close military relationship. Sources within BAE | :02:40. | :02:42.
Systems say the initial deal with the UAE is for 60 Typhoons, maybe | :02:43. | :02:51.
more. We are talking about ?6 billion worth of aircraft, a defence | :02:52. | :02:59.
arrangement between the UK and the United Arab Emirates signed last | :03:00. | :03:01.
year. This might well be the icing on the cake. | :03:02. | :03:03.
A BAE Systems source says an official deal announcement could | :03:04. | :03:06.
come as early as Sunday, the start of the air show, though there's been | :03:07. | :03:10.
no official comment from the firm. Staff are delighted. Good news for | :03:11. | :03:15.
engineering, technical, manufacturing, document, all manner | :03:16. | :03:19.
of seeds involved. Human rights groups have accused the | :03:20. | :03:23.
UAE of human rights abuses. David Cameron, who's on his way to the | :03:24. | :03:26.
Gulf has said, "Their security is important for our security and this | :03:27. | :03:30.
is vital for British jobs." And traders neighbouring the Warton | :03:31. | :03:35.
plant say it's crucial for them too. All of the local businesses around | :03:36. | :03:41.
here, it will generate something from BAE Systems getting this order. | :03:42. | :03:46.
Is great. All the businesses, everyone, it is great news. | :03:47. | :03:53.
The Red Arrows have been performing over Dubai ahead of the air show. | :03:54. | :03:56.
They fly BAE's Hawk trainer jets, there's speculation they'll be | :03:57. | :03:59.
needed too. And if the UAE deal s successful, other Gulf states may | :04:00. | :04:02.
follow suit. Once this deal has been signed, it could allow BAE Systems | :04:03. | :04:10.
to go onto find deals with Saudi Arabia and other countries in the | :04:11. | :04:14.
region. There could be some more good news to come, a source within | :04:15. | :04:18.
BAE Systems told us that if the deal goes through another with India that | :04:19. | :04:22.
it thought it had lost to the French could be back on the cards. | :04:23. | :04:26.
And they'll be looking at the state of the labour market in the region | :04:27. | :04:36.
on this week's Sunday Politics. The latest rounds of council cuts are on | :04:37. | :04:41.
the way and that means jobs. The Labour MP for Manchester Central and | :04:42. | :04:44.
the Liberal Democrat MP for Cheadle will be here to discuss that. The | :04:45. | :04:50.
unemployed figures, and the possibility of a combined authority | :04:51. | :04:53.
for Mercy said. Drivers at 11am on Sunday. | :04:54. | :04:55.
The Dean of Lancaster Cathedral s been convicted of historic sexual | :04:56. | :04:57.
offences. Canon Stephen Shield has been found guilty of three offences | :04:58. | :05:01.
of indecent assault against a man at Preston Crown Court. The abuse took | :05:02. | :05:07.
place between 1985 and 1992. A male nurse has appeared in court | :05:08. | :05:11.
accused of headbutting a patient at the Royal Blackburn hospital. | :05:12. | :05:13.
53`year`old David Hadfield is charged with GBH. The hospital say | :05:14. | :05:17.
he was immediately suspended following the alleged incident back | :05:18. | :05:22.
in August. Airline Flybe plans to close its | :05:23. | :05:25.
Isle of Man base from next April, making 49 of its 51 staff employed | :05:26. | :05:29.
there redundant. The carrier says it will continue to fly in and out of | :05:30. | :05:32.
the island's Ronaldsway Airport though. Flybe says the cuts are | :05:33. | :05:35.
necessary to keep the company viable. | :05:36. | :05:44.
Jimmy Savile's former flatmate and driver has appeared in court charged | :05:45. | :05:47.
with a number of child sex offences. Ray Teret, an ex`DJ in Manchester, | :05:48. | :05:50.
will face trial next year. Stuart Pollitt's report contains some flash | :05:51. | :06:03.
photography. The air in the 1960s, the width and | :06:04. | :06:06.
works together in Manchester for three years. Today, the former pilot | :06:07. | :06:12.
radioed the GI that the Crown Court for the first time to face dozens of | :06:13. | :06:17.
times of historical sexual offences covering for decades. In total, the | :06:18. | :06:21.
72`year`old faces 32 child sex allegations. They include 16 charges | :06:22. | :06:26.
of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault. The alleged victims are 14 | :06:27. | :06:32.
young girls and 117`year`old. The event are said to have happened | :06:33. | :06:39.
between 1962 and 1996, primarily around greater Manchester. Although | :06:40. | :06:41.
Reed Tebbit was closely associated with Jimmy Savile, none of the | :06:42. | :06:47.
charges he faces are in any way linked to the former BBC presenter | :06:48. | :06:50.
as DJ. Bitter Manchester police have | :06:51. | :06:51.
stressed that there are investigation into him is in no way | :06:52. | :06:57.
linked to the Metropolitan police investigation into Jimmy Savile | :06:58. | :07:01.
He was gutted conditional bail and told the return on April 17. The | :07:02. | :07:06.
court heard that he intended to plead not guilty and will face trial | :07:07. | :07:15.
in October. A man and a women have died after a light aircraft died | :07:16. | :07:19.
near Chester. The plane came down near the runway at the bus UK | :07:20. | :07:23.
factory. Emergency services were called to the Saint Catherine 1pm. I | :07:24. | :07:32.
can see the runway lights, can you tell any more about what happened. | :07:33. | :07:38.
The aircraft, a twin engine like that came down here at the airport, | :07:39. | :07:43.
which is in Broughton on the North Wales side of the border with | :07:44. | :07:49.
Chester just if you mail signed me. Pictures show it appeared to be in | :07:50. | :07:54.
some difficulty before it came down, but North Wales police arrived here | :07:55. | :08:01.
just after 1pm and they found the wreckage of the light aircraft close | :08:02. | :08:06.
to the runway. A man was pronounced dead at the scene, a woman was taken | :08:07. | :08:12.
to the nearest hospital just the few miles away but she also later died. | :08:13. | :08:15.
There was no one else on the aircraft. | :08:16. | :08:19.
Do we know any more about why the aircraft was there? | :08:20. | :08:26.
This airport is actually on quite a large site, the Airbus UK has its | :08:27. | :08:29.
factory here, the wings for some of their claims are made here. The | :08:30. | :08:34.
airport is mainly used for fleet, but the number of commercial and | :08:35. | :08:42.
private flights also operate here. Clearly, investigations are being | :08:43. | :08:45.
carried out by Airbus say it was not one of the planes. The group which | :08:46. | :08:49.
manages the site says that it does not wish to comment at this stage | :08:50. | :08:53.
and has left all enquiries to north little `` North Wales police. The | :08:54. | :08:58.
air accident investigation bureau has sent a team which is | :08:59. | :09:02.
investigating the circumstances around the crash. | :09:03. | :09:04.
Controversial plans to allocate land across South Lakeland for thousands | :09:05. | :09:08.
of new homes over the next 12 years have been approved. The council s | :09:09. | :09:10.
identified sites in towns and villages to build 400 houses a year, | :09:11. | :09:14.
as well as allowing businesses to expand. Objectors argued it took up | :09:15. | :09:17.
too much countryside. But inspectors have ruled the council's plans are | :09:18. | :09:23.
justified. Almost a thousand people have joined | :09:24. | :09:26.
a petition to rebuild the Sandiway Round Tower in Northwich. The grade | :09:27. | :09:30.
II listed landmark had to be demolished after a car collided with | :09:31. | :09:33.
it last night. The tower's bricks, seen here in better times, are being | :09:34. | :09:37.
stored by the council with the hope of possible reconstruction at a | :09:38. | :09:43.
later date. Manchester's Christmas Markets are | :09:44. | :09:47.
back for their 15th year from today. More than 300 stalls helped boost | :09:48. | :09:50.
the city's economy by ?70 million last year. They also brought in over | :09:51. | :09:53.
1.7 million visitors to Albert Square alone. | :09:54. | :10:00.
One part of the North West will have a particularly close eye on | :10:01. | :10:03.
England's match against Chile tonight. Jay Rodriguez, who was born | :10:04. | :10:06.
in Burnley and made his name with his hometown club, is in line to | :10:07. | :10:10.
make his debut for his country at Wembley. The striker moved to | :10:11. | :10:13.
Southampton last year for a fee of about ?7 million. But as Richard | :10:14. | :10:17.
Askam found out, there are lots of people rooting for him back home in | :10:18. | :10:26.
Lancashire. Rodriguez! What I call! He has made | :10:27. | :10:30.
it in the Premier league, and knows he is about to make his family even | :10:31. | :10:39.
prouder. The Burnley boy, born and bred, will be there tonight. It is | :10:40. | :10:47.
like a dream come true. I can't believe I am going to Wembley to see | :10:48. | :10:54.
my son play. I do thought he gets five minutes, I would be so proud | :10:55. | :10:58.
just watching him warming up. As a youngster, Jay Rodrguez began to | :10:59. | :11:03.
shine as a footballer and play for one of his local teams. Although he | :11:04. | :11:08.
clearly had talent, his coach from age ten to 14 says he was certainly | :11:09. | :11:13.
no prima donna. He was a lovely lad, he was very unassuming and not | :11:14. | :11:20.
pig`headed or anything. It is brilliant for the club. Jay Rodrguez | :11:21. | :11:24.
was picked up by Burnley and made his way through the ranks to the | :11:25. | :11:28.
first team where the forest. One of his former coaches says he expected | :11:29. | :11:31.
to take his international debut in stride in just the same way. | :11:32. | :11:37.
Everything he has had to move up in, any level, he has adapted to it and | :11:38. | :11:41.
done well. I'm sure know with the England squad he will adapt to that | :11:42. | :11:46.
and be fine. With four goals to his name this season the young striker | :11:47. | :11:49.
could make a name for himself at Wembley this evening. As far as his | :11:50. | :11:56.
dad is conserved, `` as far as his dad is concerned... The messages in | :11:57. | :12:01.
getting people talking on the streets, the always finish up by | :12:02. | :12:04.
saying what a great lad. It makes me so proud. Good luck to him for | :12:05. | :12:10.
tonight. James Dyer, from Liverpool, was | :12:11. | :12:13.
working in the engine room of the Cunard liner Lusitania when a German | :12:14. | :12:16.
U boat torpedoed it in 1915. He managed to survive, but 1,200 people | :12:17. | :12:19.
died. Today James's daughter and many others went to a special | :12:20. | :12:22.
commemoration to mark the centenary of the sinking. Andy Gill reports. | :12:23. | :12:32.
In her day she was one of the fastest liners on the Atlantic. The | :12:33. | :12:35.
Lusitania came into service from Liverpool in 1907. In May 1915 a | :12:36. | :12:40.
German U boat attacked her. She sank off the coast of Ireland. Men, women | :12:41. | :12:44.
and children among the dead. James Dyer a stoker here in the centre, | :12:45. | :12:54.
survived and rescued two children. He grabbed a piece of wood or | :12:55. | :12:57.
whatever, there were some children and he got a hold of the children | :12:58. | :13:01.
and took them back and save them. Two American children. People in | :13:02. | :13:04.
Liverpool called her the Lusy. Crowds gathered in her home port as | :13:05. | :13:07.
the news broke. There was anti German rioting in Liverpool, | :13:08. | :13:10.
Manchester and Salford. Joe Wynne's great grandfather and uncle George | :13:11. | :13:18.
were aboard. The people were cleaning the bunks in the caverns, | :13:19. | :13:23.
people who are in the bowels of the ship, and the likes of George in the | :13:24. | :13:28.
kitchen peeling potatoes, they were the families keeping millionaires | :13:29. | :13:30.
happy upstairs. Today dozens of people came to a drop in session | :13:31. | :13:33.
about the liner at Merseyside Maritime Museum. It is organising a | :13:34. | :13:36.
centenary exhibition about the tragedy. One of the Lusitania's | :13:37. | :13:44.
propellers was salvaged from the sea bed 30 years ago and it will be at | :13:45. | :13:48.
the centre of commemorations in 2015. Nearly one century on it is | :13:49. | :13:52.
clear how strongly the Lusitania study still resonates in Liverpool. | :13:53. | :13:59.
She was at the landing stage very regularly, she was a very familiar | :14:00. | :14:03.
sight there. Vocal people held her in high regard. | :14:04. | :14:05.
It's thought up to 600 people aboard, crew and passengers, had | :14:06. | :14:08.
north west connections. And the museum wants to hear as many stories | :14:09. | :14:12.
as possible. Andy Gill BBC North West Tonight, Liverpool. It is a big | :14:13. | :14:22.
night, it is Children In Need. Roger has left the studio and has joined | :14:23. | :14:26.
our fundraisers party in Manchester. Let's go to him no. It looks | :14:27. | :14:33.
reassuringly chaotic there! There you are. Give us each year, look | :14:34. | :14:41.
like you are enjoying yourselves. CHEERING. We have extra chaos this | :14:42. | :14:49.
year. Look two is here. Hacker the dog, for the third year running | :14:50. | :14:56.
they have booked him again. Can we not get Annabelle brought over, she | :14:57. | :14:59.
could have shared my black pudding. She has a punch`up forbidding. I | :15:00. | :15:09.
thought you liked meat paste. I was given that a very special man. | :15:10. | :15:13.
Annabelle would not want to know about your black pudding. We are | :15:14. | :15:19.
going to hear a lot more from Chris at Hacker during the course of the | :15:20. | :15:23.
evening. Let's have a chat to some of the people raising money today. | :15:24. | :15:28.

you very much indeed. Children In Need isn't the only | :19:41. | :19:44.
major BBC event in the North West this weekend, as Strictly Come | :19:45. | :19:46.
Dancing comes live from Blackpool, for many people the home of ballroom | :19:47. | :19:53.
dancing. Abbey Clancy and Natalie gimme the art in the area, and we | :19:54. | :19:59.
caught up with them. My first taste of the Tower ballroom, it becomes | :20:00. | :20:02.
your every year for strictly and they say that this year it will be | :20:03. | :20:06.
better than ever. Rehearsals are already well underway. They are | :20:07. | :20:14.
having a break in the dancing for the moment. Here is one for the | :20:15. | :20:20.
ladies. And speaking of one for the ladies, here is the wonderful and | :20:21. | :20:26.
Honda deck. Tell us what it feels like to be here? It is tremendous. | :20:27. | :20:32.
Look at the ballroom. Magnificent as ever. But who is getting a | :20:33. | :20:40.
face`lift. It looks amazing. Alan is just announcing JLS. Don't tell | :20:41. | :20:50.
anyone. This is the area where the dancers come on, I will try and have | :20:51. | :20:53.
a chat `` have a chat with some of them. There is James Jordan. Good to | :20:54. | :21:06.

injured my back. I am gutted. Last week you were not well enough | :21:09. | :21:23.
to be on the show. How are you know? So much better. A week of rest over | :21:24. | :21:29.
the weekend and I am excited to be bringing some fun to the dance | :21:30. | :21:35.
floor. What kind of stuff do you have to do for the quick step? One, | :21:36. | :21:46.
two, three, four! I actually mess that up. That was at least the name | :21:47. | :21:50.
from me. If only you were on the panel. `` at least 89. This is the | :21:51. | :21:59.
dreaded spot where the judges said. But now it is the production | :22:00. | :22:03.
coordinator. The desk is messy at the moment. Tomorrow, this is where | :22:04. | :22:16.
it is going to be happening. Tell us about the cha`cha`cha. We're not | :22:17. | :22:19.
doing so much of this, it is more freestyle. It is all about twisting | :22:20. | :22:26.
and getting the audience going. What you can see them all in action | :22:27. | :22:32.
tomorrow night. Strictly tomorrow live from | :22:33. | :22:38.
Blackpool. Chris, do you fancy strictly? It is all about the fit | :22:39. | :22:46.
work. Watch my feet, Roger. Can you clean this mess up for me? All, | :22:47. | :22:52.
please. I tell you what, Hacker can use rotary deal for the weather I | :22:53. | :22:57.
can, over to Brian Eno for the weather. | :22:58. | :23:02.
Thank you very much. Goodness, I wish I was related to Brian Eno | :23:03. | :23:07.
that would be brilliant. Roger is doing brilliant year, the | :23:08. | :23:13.
temperature today have not been billion but we have had a lot of | :23:14. | :23:16.
clothing and the occasional spot of rain. It has not stopped many people | :23:17. | :23:20.
from going out there and doing their bit for Children In Need. Over the | :23:21. | :23:27.
weekend we keep the temperatures at around nine or 10 degrees at best, | :23:28. | :23:31.
but what what happens on Tuesday. What's the temperatures. Four or | :23:32. | :23:36.
five degrees on Tuesday. If it is that cold during the day, over make | :23:37. | :23:40.
temperatures will drop well below freezing. It is all because of this. | :23:41. | :23:45.
We have mild air at the moment and that will ebb away in the next two | :23:46. | :23:50.
or three days. By the time we get to Monday or Tuesday because there will | :23:51. | :23:53.
continue to fall in from the Arctic said, it will be very cold on | :23:54. | :23:58.
Tuesday. Let's go through to tonight, if you are outdoors doing | :23:59. | :24:01.
your bit for Children In Need it is not looking bad. Lots of clothes | :24:02. | :24:04.
around, the occasional spit and spot of rain. It will not amount to much, | :24:05. | :24:09.
we keep the temperature fairly high. Those of a farming degrees. We could | :24:10. | :24:15.
hang on to the cloud once again `` temperatures of eight or nine | :24:16. | :24:21.
degrees. Weaving the odd spot of rain in places, a bit of a westerly | :24:22. | :24:26.
breeze at times. If every dad and Dolby, temperatures will". Heading | :24:27. | :24:31.
into Sunday, more of the same, lots of clothes around and more rain on | :24:32. | :24:36.
Sunday night to Monday. Generally, the weekend is going to be quite | :24:37. | :24:40.
cloudy as I have said. Look at the temperatures for Tuesday. Five or | :24:41. | :24:44.
six degrees rake across the board. Very cold, there. Much warmer in | :24:45. | :24:49.
human where Roger and Are with the Children In Need choir who have been | :24:50. | :24:57.
rehearsing all afternoon. We have left the renegades dog | :24:58. | :25:01.
outside, it is a bit quieter in here, a bit calmer. As you said the | :25:02. | :25:05.
choir have been here rehearsing and I have some of them with me. Your | :25:06. | :25:10.
big moment in a feud, not that long, if you minutes time. You are in | :25:11. | :25:14.
charge of building the squire together. Tell us about what it has | :25:15. | :25:20.
meant for the kids. I have got to see it has been fabulous for the | :25:21. | :25:22.
children. Seeing their faces from the first workshops we delivered to | :25:23. | :25:27.
seeing them here in the rehearsal this afternoon and what it will be | :25:28. | :25:30.
like tonight, it has been fantastic. You are singing nationally as part | :25:31. | :25:35.
of the big thing but many of these people, many of these young people | :25:36. | :25:38.
have not done before. Some of them have got some, Hammer, have you some | :25:39. | :25:45.
before? `` Hannah. It is brilliant. I feel more comfortable now. Singing | :25:46. | :25:50.
in the choir. That a three quarters of a million people watching you | :25:51. | :25:54.
right now. That is not as nerve wracking and singing, is it? . How | :25:55. | :26:01.
much are you enjoying it? It is fun, that it was more scary this time. I | :26:02. | :26:08.
feel better and feel more safe. I ask one of the guys over here, what | :26:09. | :26:13.
are you singing? Singh by Gary Barlow. How easy has that been to | :26:14. | :26:19.
learn? It has been easy, I knew it before. The harmonies are really | :26:20. | :26:27.
good as well. They are on at 25 past eight on BBC One as part of the | :26:28. | :26:32.
whole national singsong. We will get a preview, if you like. Thank you | :26:33. | :26:37.
for what you have done for chosen in need. Stay with us if you can. Have | :26:38. | :26:41.
a lovely weekend. Thanks for watching. # just sing # Just sing. # | :26:42. | :27:10.
