Oldham Council has denied newspaper reports of a "Trojan Horse" Islamic

:00:16.:00:21.

plot to take over a state school in the town.

:00:22.:00:27.

The Sunday Times says concerns had been raised by the head teacher

:00:28.:00:31.

at Clarksfield Primary and claims there are extremism issues at two

:00:32.:00:34.

Our reporter Yunus Mulla has been following the story.

:00:35.:00:37.

Their allegations concern the activities of a number

:00:38.:00:39.

of people connected to Clarksfield Primary School

:00:40.:00:41.

in Oldham and claims of a Trojan Horse style plot

:00:42.:00:43.

The Sunday Times reports the head teacher, Patricia O'Donnell,

:00:44.:00:46.

has expresed concerns about her own safety

:00:47.:00:49.

after receiving death threats and aggressive verbal abuse,

:00:50.:00:51.

and that the head teachers' union NAHT is currently supporting

:00:52.:00:54.

a number of members in the Oldham area with a variety of apparent

:00:55.:00:57.

Now, the school was criticised by Ofsted in 2013 for its

:00:58.:01:10.

quotes a confidential report on the views of local authority

:01:11.:01:21.

officers at the time - they claimed a former governor,

:01:22.:01:23.

Nasim Ashraf, and others were "seeking to secure changes

:01:24.:01:25.

to reflect their interpretation of Islam, and were behaving in a way

:01:26.:01:28.

which harassed and sought to intimidate school staff,

:01:29.:01:30.

It is important to add here that the report concluded this

:01:31.:01:34.

did not constitute a Trojan plot and that Mr Ashraf was not

:01:35.:01:37.

an extremist and was not found to have intimidated anyone.

:01:38.:01:39.

You spoke to Mr Ashraf today - what did he tell you?

:01:40.:01:42.

He stated categorically that he had nothing to do with any Trojan Horse

:01:43.:01:46.

plot against the head teacher and had only got involved in

:01:47.:01:48.

the school to improve it because of his Muslim beliefs.

:01:49.:01:51.

Mr Ashraf is known locally for his charity work and said

:01:52.:01:53.

he was concerend about the damage this could do to his reputation

:01:54.:01:57.

They said they take allegations of this kind very seriously

:01:58.:02:08.

We were not able to contact the head teacher or her union

:02:09.:02:25.

or the current chair of governors, but I'm told that a number of people

:02:26.:02:28.

connected with this story will be making a comment in the coming days.

:02:29.:02:31.

Hundreds of police investigations are being reviewed, after two men

:02:32.:02:34.

who work at a forensic science lab in Manchester were arrested

:02:35.:02:36.

on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

:02:37.:02:38.

Randox Testing Services in Blackley provides drug

:02:39.:02:40.

and alcohol tests for police forces across the UK.

:02:41.:02:43.

The company has been working with Greater Manchester

:02:44.:02:46.

It said the investigation centred on the manipulation of data,

:02:47.:02:51.

rather than any tampering with actual tests.

:02:52.:02:53.

Six people have been treated by paramedics after a fire

:02:54.:02:56.

at industrial units in Greater Manchester.

:02:57.:03:00.

60 firefighters attended the blaze, which broke out at commercial units

:03:01.:03:02.

on Louisa Street in Openshaw just after midnight.

:03:03.:03:05.

Nobody was seriously injured but local residents

:03:06.:03:07.

are being urged to keep their doors and windows closed.

:03:08.:03:10.

Parishioners of the Church of Ascension in Salford,

:03:11.:03:20.

which burned down last week, have attended Sunday service

:03:21.:03:22.

A 22-year-old man from Salford, arrested in connection with the fire

:03:23.:03:26.

on suspicion of arson, has been bailed until March.

:03:27.:03:28.

The Bishop of Manchester and other faith leaders attended the service

:03:29.:03:30.

One week on from the fire, we are still finding out how bad the

:03:31.:03:41.

damage to the building is and what the future

:03:42.:03:43.

We have had wonderful pledges of help and support

:03:44.:03:54.

from other Christian communities, from the city of Salford,

:03:55.:03:56.

from the Jewish community, from the Muslim community,

:03:57.:03:58.

who are all with us in our tragedy and keen to help out in whatever

:03:59.:04:02.

In the FA Cup, they are well into the closing stages

:04:03.:04:06.

of the all North West tie at Ewood Park between

:04:07.:04:09.

Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United.

:04:10.:04:12.

Rovers took the lead thanks to Danny Graham scoting this goal

:04:13.:04:14.

United hit back with Marcus Rashford.

:04:15.:04:31.

Ibrahimovic has scored four United so they are currently leading 2-1.

:04:32.:04:36.

a hat-trick from Denny Solomona pushed Sale to victory

:04:37.:04:42.

in a high-scoring affair against leaders Wasps.

:04:43.:04:44.

Sale had raced to a 31-9 lead before Wasps hit back in the second half.

:04:45.:04:48.

Sale winning the game by 34 points to 28.

:04:49.:04:52.

in double figures as we move into in double figures as we move into

:04:53.:05:01.

the working week. the working week.

:05:02.:05:06.

Today was a cloudy affair, the cloud thickening from the West through the

:05:07.:05:10.

day. Overnight it will be a similar story, lots of cloud around, low

:05:11.:05:15.

cloud, mist and murk and outbreaks of light rain. An overnight low of

:05:16.:05:22.

eight to 10 Celsius, so very mild. It will be a mild start tomorrow,

:05:23.:05:27.

fairly cloudy as well, some outbreaks of rain through the day.

:05:28.:05:31.

Any breaks in the cloud in limited supply. Temperatures reaching 13

:05:32.:05:38.

degrees and quite westerly wind. I will leave you with the outlook to

:05:39.:05:43.

the week. It will be an unsettled story, noticeably colder by mid

:05:44.:05:47.

week. Tomorrow, cloudy and mild with outbreaks of rain.

:05:48.:05:53.

We will be back just after 10pm with a round-up of your Sunday evening

:05:54.:05:59.

News. From me, enjoy what is left of Sunday afternoon.

:06:00.:06:13.

on and on. It is because of the direction of the wind. Tomorrow's

:06:14.:06:23.

temperatures might be higher than today by a couple of degrees. There

:06:24.:06:27.

has been a lot of cloud. But we had some lovely pictures coming in. Some

:06:28.:06:31.

sunshine, but predominantly the clouds have been -- the skies have

:06:32.:06:38.

been cloudy. This will continue as well as a smattering of rain. For

:06:39.:06:44.

all those reasons it isn't

:06:45.:06:45.
