Merseyside Police are appealing for information

after a man was left outside a hospital with stab wounds.

The 21-year-old was taken to Aintree Hospital in the early hours,

in a light coloured van with blacked-out windows.

He suffered a number of stab wounds and is in a stable condition.

Police are trying to trace those who were in the van.

A 25-year-old man arrested in connection

with the escape of a convicted murderer in Liverpool

has been released while investigations continue.

Detectives are working with police forces across the UK

and they're reminding the public not to approach him.

The Blackpool skyline has changed forever today,

with the demolition of the eight-storey tower

which welcomed visitors in to the resort, was reduced to rubble.

For almost 40 years, Blackpool's other tower has stood proud.

dynamite will be used to flatten it, making way for new houses.

that's always seemed to have been here, doesn't it?

So it will be quite sad to see it go.

So how do you bring down 120 foot of concrete?

The explosives, if you look, are positioned on the first

and second floor, and then the fourth floor

The idea being it all blows in sequence -

The building should, in effect, tip this way at that point,

and it will smash itself to bits on the floor.

And what took years to build up took just seconds to bring down.

It felt like we were on a Fast Furious set!

When you think there's 6,000 tonnes of concrete chasing it down

when you knock the legs from under it.

And it's estimated it'll take until the summer

to shift what the explosion's left behind.

We've had some strong gusts of wind today -

we still have that Met Office yellow warning in place

across parts of Cumbria for high winds tonight.

But we also have some heavy showers to come.

And, across the Pennines, we could see,

as those showers meet the cold air,

they will turn into something more wintry.

As for tomorrow, well, it is going to be a day

of scattered showers and some sunshine.

At times, they will contain a rumble of thunder.

They could be a touch wintry as well,

But there will be some wintry spells,

some sunshine to come at times during the day,

through the rest of the week as well.

Storm Ewan, named by the Irish meteorological service, because it

was in Ireland we expected the biggest impacts. For the rest of the

UK it was quite windy and wet, but the worst of it is making its way

towards the Northern Isles. We'll see gusts of wind here overnight to

around 60 miles an hour. Blustery in the south-east with rain moving

through. Blustery night for many areas, with some showers coming in

from the West. Some of those will contain wintry weather. Most of

England and Wales are staying about 4-5 above freezing, but colder in

some parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, some patches of ice first
