Police in Manchester are appealing for information

after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed by a group of attackers

The boy was walking with friends along Oakfield Street in Cheetam

at 3:20pm yesterday afternoon, when a group of people

wearing balaclavas stabbed the boy several times and fled the scene.

The victim is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Police investigating the death of a 19-month-old baby girl

in Preston this week have bailed three people.

Emergency services were called at 9:30am on Thursday morning

to an address at Lostock Hall, where paramedics treated the girl.

She died a short time later at Royal Preston Hospital.

The death is being treated as suspicious

and a postmortem examination will be carried out.

A woman aged 18 and two men aged 18 and 19 from Lostock Hall

were later arrested and have been bailed.

Parents, teachers and councillors have come together in Chester today

to protest against cuts to school budgets in west Cheshire.

They're unhappy with the Government's plans to change

the way schools are funded across England and fear they will

I'm also very concerned for my two children at high school.

Cuts are impacting seriously on their school

and they are likely to lose up to 24 teaching staff.

Earlier this week, headteachers from 3000 schools

in England wrote to their local MPs and ministers

Schools in Cheshire West and Chester are already underfunded

And this is going to make it even worse.

Now, every school in Cheshire West and Chester

is looking at losing staff and cutting the curriculum.

Campaigners say the Government's new funding formula

is likely to see Cheshire West's schools lose ?6.4 million.

In real terms, this could be as much

It won't just be the nice things that go when

these cuts come in, it will be people that go.

People will lose their jobs and the class sizes will

get bigger and the opportunities at our schools provide across

this county will be diminished by these devastating cuts.

The Department for Education says schools are funded

at record levels and that the budget rethink will end

The worry for the people gathered here is that this will lead

Sport and Manchester's Anthony Million Dollar Crolla goes
