A new smart phone app has been launched in Bristol to rival

The app is called Braxi and our reporter Lee Madan has been

taking a look at what it means for transport in the city.

The modern way to get a taxi isn't to call a cab firm,

You set your pick-up location and tell the phone where you are

and then see how far away the nearest driver is.

It only works in our region if you're living in

Bristol or in Bath, where the firm Uber operates.

It's much easier and cheaper for drivers to work for

Uber than it is to get a licence through the local council to become

because they do the job for a quarter of the price we do it for.

It costs them 30% less to run their car than

More competition is on its way in Bristol with a new app called Braxi.

It works in the same way as Uber, but unlike Uber, drivers are still

licensed by Bristol City Council and vetted in the same way as other taxi

The advantage for me as a taxi driver is whereas

Drivers can pick and choose when they work for Braxi

Like Tahir, another driver has signed up to become a Braxi

driver too, but he says he's sceptical the app will take off.

I very much doubt any other app will work.

Braxi hopes the fact they give customers the

option of paying by cash or card will set them apart.

Uber said it welcomes competition because it forces everyone to offer

We have had a nagging north-easterly breeze and I think it

will stay breezy overnight, but we will carry on with clear skies.
