Good evening. for the news where you are.

:00:00.:00:07.

A Kent woman who's been told she has less than six months to live

:00:08.:00:11.

claims tests failed to diagnose her pancreatic cancer despite her being

:00:12.:00:13.

Elizabeth Parker says her inoperable condition was only spotted

:00:14.:00:20.

when she was taken to hospital in extreme pain.

:00:21.:00:22.

Elizabeth Parker this week began arranging her own funeral.

:00:23.:00:34.

For the last two nights when we go to bed we just cry and hold

:00:35.:00:49.

I can't believe it because because it is so...

:00:50.:00:58.

I feel the world is turning but we have no part in it,

:00:59.:01:04.

Mrs Parker says it took too long to diagnose

:01:05.:01:07.

She first visited her GP practice in September last year,

:01:08.:01:11.

where doctors thought she had acid reflux.

:01:12.:01:12.

She declined an endoscopy because she has a sensitive gag reflex.

:01:13.:01:15.

During four further visits to her GP she was referred for an ultrasound

:01:16.:01:18.

test the following month and stomach x-rays, they all proved

:01:19.:01:20.

inconclusive and the ultrasound did not detect the cancer.

:01:21.:01:22.

It wasn't until January this year when in agony

:01:23.:01:27.

she visited an emergency clinic and blood tests showed she

:01:28.:01:30.

She visited a private hospital for a CT scan,

:01:31.:01:33.

after which she was given 3-6 months to live.

:01:34.:01:37.

Mrs Parker is not certain earlier diagnosis could

:01:38.:01:39.

Certainly I would have had more warning of what was to come and then

:01:40.:01:45.

I would have had longer time to spend with my family

:01:46.:01:48.

One cancer charity says pancreatic cancer can

:01:49.:02:01.

You do hear stories of people going back

:02:02.:02:04.

and forth to the doctors and waiting for time

:02:05.:02:06.

to get different scans and

:02:07.:02:16.

things before they can get that diagnosis.

:02:17.:02:18.

Delays like this mean pancreatic cancer can advance quite

:02:19.:02:20.

quickly and by that stage it is often too

:02:21.:02:22.

Mrs Parker says she is devastated that

:02:23.:02:25.

she won't be around long enough to see her four-year-old grandson grow

:02:26.:02:28.

Kent and Surrey's motorsport legend John Surtees has

:02:29.:02:31.

Uniquely, Surtees was a world champion in both Formula One

:02:32.:02:35.

He'd been admitted to hospital in London in February

:02:36.:02:38.

He owned Buckmore Park circuit near Rochester,

:02:39.:02:40.

and set up a foundation in memory of his son Henry, who was killed

:02:41.:02:44.

in a freak accident, racing at Brands Hatch.

:02:45.:02:46.

Piers Hopkirk reports on an extraordinary life and legacy.

:02:47.:02:53.

Hot favourite after wins in 1958 and '59, number

:02:54.:02:55.

John Surtees was a unique breed of sporting hero.

:02:56.:03:03.

The only man to have won the Grand Prix World Championship

:03:04.:03:06.

An achievement yet to be surpassed in more than half a century.

:03:07.:03:13.

It is a hammer blow for me and for British

:03:14.:03:17.

He is undoubtedly one of the greatest people ever lived

:03:18.:03:22.

The son of a motorbike dealer, he won his first race aged 17.

:03:23.:03:28.

A glittering career on two wheels followed, climaxing perhaps

:03:29.:03:31.

with his hat-trick of Isle of Mann TT wins.

:03:32.:03:35.

Is this your life ambition now achieved?

:03:36.:03:37.

I don't set out with definite ambitions, I just try

:03:38.:03:47.

In his Ferrari, John Surtees, number seven, going like a bomb

:03:48.:03:51.

and eventually leading the ten cars that are still in the race.

:03:52.:03:54.

In 1961 he switched the cars and won the Formula 1 crown

:03:55.:03:57.

He was the only man to cross over from bikes to cars and I think that

:03:58.:04:02.

just gives a very positive sign to people that anything is possible.

:04:03.:04:05.

What John Surtees did, it was inspiring.

:04:06.:04:11.

When his racing days were over, motorsport

:04:12.:04:15.

It was the basis of his business in Edenbridge, and in 2015 he bought

:04:16.:04:21.

His later life was touched by tragedy.

:04:22.:04:28.

His son Henry was killed in a freak accident at Brands Hatch.

:04:29.:04:31.

It prompted the creation of the Henry Surtees

:04:32.:04:34.

John Surtees was awarded a CBE last year and he remains

:04:35.:04:41.

a motorsport legend, with a permanent place

:04:42.:04:45.

By the time I was retiring I still had not probably

:04:46.:04:50.

reach my absolute peak, but I have achieved my main ambition

:04:51.:04:53.

is because the most important thing I have to do in life is not satisfy

:04:54.:04:56.

And you can see more reaction and leave your tributes

:04:57.:05:08.

to John Surtees at our live page bbc.co.uk/kent or on

:05:09.:05:19.

The neighbour of a young woman who was brutally murdered

:05:20.:05:23.

in Portslade has told a jury at Lewes Crown Court how they heard

:05:24.:05:26.

arguing and glass being smashed in the house a few weeks

:05:27.:05:28.

The body of Shana Grice was discovered last August.

:05:29.:05:32.

Her throat had been cut and the bedroom set on fire.

:05:33.:05:35.

Her former boyfriend Michael Lane is on trial

:05:36.:05:37.

A teacher from Faversham has been charged with child grooming.

:05:38.:05:42.

James Hope, who's 38, is Assistant Head of

:05:43.:05:45.

Kent County Council's Virtual School for children in care.

:05:46.:05:48.

He was arrested in September last year.

:05:49.:05:50.

He's due to appear at Maidstone Magistrates Court next month.

:05:51.:05:54.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who's body

:05:55.:05:58.

was found in a car park in Tunbridge Wells early on Tuesday.

:05:59.:06:04.

Kent police have revealed that the victim was 43-year-old

:06:05.:06:07.

Giles Metcalfe and a provisional post-mortem indicated he died

:06:08.:06:12.

34-year-old Dean Lewis, of no fixed address, appeared before

:06:13.:06:19.

Medway magistrates today and was remanded in custody.

:06:20.:06:23.

Football, and Brighton took a step nearer to

:06:24.:06:25.

The Seagulls beat Derby County 3-0 at the Amex.

:06:26.:06:28.

They remain in second place in the Championship

:06:29.:06:31.

table on goal difference, but are now level with

:06:32.:06:32.

The national weather forecast coming up in a moment,

:06:33.:06:36.

but first let's get the picture for the weekend in the south-east

:06:37.:06:39.

It is a weekend of two halves. Sunny on Saturday but turning wet and

:06:40.:06:59.

windy on Sunday. Through tonight is a good deal of clouds. To date

:07:00.:07:06.

temperatures were only around 10 Celsius but they hardly change

:07:07.:07:15.

overnight. Mild to start tomorrow. Staying dry and a good deal of

:07:16.:07:20.

sunshine around. By the afternoon temperatures are widely in the mid

:07:21.:07:26.

teens and highs of 17 Celsius. Turning wet into Sunday with

:07:27.:07:41.

Where the sunshine broke through to the North of Cornwall temperatures

:07:42.:07:46.

rose to 17 degrees under the blue skies. For many of us the cloud

:07:47.:07:50.

didn't break up through the day, keeping temperatures pegged at

:07:51.:07:55.

around about 13 degrees. That was the high today in the London region.

:07:56.:07:59.

Mild over night with the blanket of cloud around. Most places dry. Rain

:08:00.:08:04.

will work into parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland through the

:08:05.:08:07.

early hours of Saturday. It will be

:08:08.:08:08.
