There have been angry scenes in Canterbury today as NHS bosses

clashed with residents over plans to change acute hospital

Campaigners believe part of the urgent care centre

at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital has been earmarked for closure.

Today managers said no decision has been made,

but there had been problems trying to recruit doctors.

In this packed hall it was a chance for residents and campaigners

to question those in charge of the hospital services.

Health care is a basic right, and we're talking it as though

it is some little plan we have to get together.

and the patients are moved, and although that is temporary,

in nine months' time, if it doesn't come back we'll never

get them back and that will see the end of our hospital.

Things are serious, and quite rightly the trust is monitoring very

carefully the current staffing situation and as they have

set out this morning, they have been talking to staff
