systems caused serious problems in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. | :00:00. | :00:08.
And a big setback for a children's farm in Chipping Norton, | :00:09. | :00:11.
after thousands of pounds of tools were stolen. | :00:12. | :00:22.
First tonight, police say a 10-year-old boy has died | :00:23. | :00:26.
from serious head injuries at a shop in Reading. | :00:27. | :00:28.
It happened at the Topshop in the Oracle Shopping | :00:29. | :00:31.
Police say the incident involved shop furniture. | :00:32. | :00:35.
The boy later died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. | :00:36. | :00:38.
Officers say his death is being treated as unexplained, | :00:39. | :00:40.
Thames Water has denied acting recklessly after failing | :00:41. | :00:47.
to control sewage spills in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. | :00:48. | :00:51.
But the company has admitted breaching a number of environmental | :00:52. | :00:53.
Aylesbury Crown Court has heard billions of pounds is now | :00:54. | :00:59.
Today we heard more details about how stretches of the Thames | :01:00. | :01:06.
in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire came to be so polluted | :01:07. | :01:08.
And we heard from the company, Thames Water, that's responsible, | :01:09. | :01:18.
on what it's doing to make sure that what happened doesn't happen again. | :01:19. | :01:23.
Now, the company breached pollution laws in four sewage | :01:24. | :01:25.
treatment works in Aylesbury, in Didcot, in Henley | :01:26. | :01:30.
and Little Marlow, and at a pumping station in Littlemore. | :01:31. | :01:35.
Thames Water said it accepts responsibility for damage | :01:36. | :01:37.
But QC Richard Matthews told the court it was negligence | :01:38. | :01:43.
rather than recklessness, and that the company has improved. | :01:44. | :01:47.
It's investing ?4 billion in upgrading equipment. | :01:48. | :01:53.
There have also been changes to the structure | :01:54. | :01:55.
of the company at the top, and the QC argued that Thames Water | :01:56. | :01:58.
Judge Sheridan said the company did not live up to that standard, | :01:59. | :02:07.
or anywhere near it, in 2013 and 2014. | :02:08. | :02:13.
Thames Water is bracing itself for a hefty fine, | :02:14. | :02:16.
and the question was raised in court, who would pay for it? | :02:17. | :02:19.
Judge Sheridan said that it shouldn't be the customers, | :02:20. | :02:22.
and that the company should be punished. | :02:23. | :02:25.
Mr Matthews promised that customers wouldn't feel | :02:26. | :02:28.
Thames Water will be sentenced on March 24th. | :02:29. | :02:33.
A man is in a serious condition in hospital | :02:34. | :02:39.
Police were called to Windmill Road in Headington this afternoon. | :02:40. | :02:45.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. | :02:46. | :02:48.
It's believed the suspect and the victim know each other. | :02:49. | :02:53.
More than 7,000 BMW workers, including those at the Mini plants | :02:54. | :02:56.
in Oxford and Swindon, are threatening industrial | :02:57. | :03:00.
action over plans to close the final-salary pension scheme. | :03:01. | :03:04.
The car-maker, which made record pre-tax profits of more | :03:05. | :03:06.
than ?7.5 billion two years ago, intends to shut two pension schemes. | :03:07. | :03:12.
BMW has previously said schemes are "increasingly | :03:13. | :03:16.
It's agreed to hold talks with the union later this month. | :03:17. | :03:22.
A footballer on loan to Swindon Town has gone on trial charged | :03:23. | :03:25.
Rohan Ince is accused of deliberately hitting a bouncer | :03:26. | :03:31.
with a bottle near a nightclub in Windsor on Christmas Day in 2015. | :03:32. | :03:36.
Next tonight, the owner of a children's farm in Oxfordshire | :03:37. | :03:42.
has been expressing his anger after thousands of pounds | :03:43. | :03:44.
worth of power tools were stolen last week. | :03:45. | :03:46.
The theft at Fairy Tale Farm in Chipping Norton was caught on CCTV. | :03:47. | :03:52.
It's the early hours of the morning, and a thief is seen on CCTV carrying | :03:53. | :04:03.
away loot after breaking into a farm for disabled children. | :04:04. | :04:10.
He broke into this building here, he forced the door open, and now, | :04:11. | :04:17.
of course, it doesn't even lock properly. | :04:18. | :04:19.
He broke in there and he stole all of our power tools. | :04:20. | :04:28.
That was angle grinders, drills, saws, circular saws, | :04:29. | :04:30.
lots of other attachments and fixtures and fittings. | :04:31. | :04:32.
The farm reopened this weekend after its winter break but, | :04:33. | :04:39.
because they've lost their tools, work that should have been | :04:40. | :04:41.
It's expensive, the tools are expensive and going to be | :04:42. | :04:45.
We'll have to replace them over time. | :04:46. | :04:48.
It's almost like setting us back to when we first started. | :04:49. | :04:53.
We didn't have all these tools, we had to build them up. | :04:54. | :04:56.
We do most of the work at Fairytale Farm ourselves. | :04:57. | :04:58.
We don't have the funds to bring in lots of contractors. | :04:59. | :05:01.
To not have these tools has just made our life really difficult. | :05:02. | :05:05.
Rural crime in this area is a massive issue. | :05:06. | :05:08.
Latest figures from NFU Mutual show that while it went | :05:09. | :05:13.
down in the South East, it actually rose in | :05:14. | :05:15.
Until about ten years ago, farms were pretty safe from crime. | :05:16. | :05:20.
Unfortunately, they're now pretty much hot targets for thieves | :05:21. | :05:22.
because they've got expensive items, like welders and chainsaws, | :05:23. | :05:26.
that thieves can pick up and sell on for a profit. | :05:27. | :05:30.
Thames Valley Police has started a month-long campaign to crack | :05:31. | :05:32.
It's been holding property-marking sessions and online chats | :05:33. | :05:39.
Fairytale Farm says the response to the break in has been amazing, | :05:40. | :05:45.
with a number of strangers offering to donate tools. | :05:46. | :05:51.
It wishes now to move on from what's happened as quickly as possible. | :05:52. | :05:58.
More than 1,500 staff and students have moved out of one | :05:59. | :06:01.
of the Oxford University buildings because of asbestos. | :06:02. | :06:05.
It was discovered at the Tinbergen building on South Parks Road. | :06:06. | :06:08.
The site has now been shut while removal work is carried out. | :06:09. | :06:13.
This year, it's 50 years since homosexuality became | :06:14. | :06:15.
To mark that, and LGBT History Month, all the museums | :06:16. | :06:19.
in Oxford have created a special trail to celebrate it. | :06:20. | :06:24.
Earlier, I spoke to Beth Asbury and Clara Barker, who are both | :06:25. | :06:27.
I went to a lecture in LGBT History Month in February last year | :06:28. | :06:33.
by Prof Richard Parkinson, and he called for more explicit | :06:34. | :06:36.
rather than implicit representation of LGBT+ people | :06:37. | :06:40.
And the project itself, it's called Out In Oxford, | :06:41. | :06:44.
How did you go about finding the items? | :06:45. | :06:49.
I contacted members of staff and curators from the museums | :06:50. | :06:54.
and collections around the university, and encouraged them | :06:55. | :06:57.
to suggest items for inclusion, and then I held a workshop in August | :06:58. | :07:00.
with volunteers from amongst the LGBTQ+ community and allies | :07:01. | :07:05.
were invited to discuss the object and think about which ones they'd | :07:06. | :07:10.
The interpretations in the trail booklet are all written | :07:11. | :07:15.
by LGBTQ+ people and allies, rather than the curators. | :07:16. | :07:19.
It's really introducing accecssibility and multi-vocality | :07:20. | :07:22.
into the museum collections, which is a really important | :07:23. | :07:26.
And, Clara, you're heavily involved in this and you've written | :07:27. | :07:30.
Which ones have captured you the most? | :07:31. | :07:33.
There was a lot of different examples of non-binary | :07:34. | :07:37.
The blue headress fish was fantastic. | :07:38. | :07:43.
This is sequentially hermaphroditic, which means it changes from male | :07:44. | :07:47.
It means that we're thinking about the world in a slightly | :07:48. | :07:53.
different way than maybe we're used to when we're talking about humans. | :07:54. | :07:56.
Was there anything like this at all when you were growing up? | :07:57. | :08:01.
I'm a scientist as well, and I've met very, very few out LGBT | :08:02. | :08:08.
scientists until the last couple of years. | :08:09. | :08:10.
So I think this is a really important step, that we just need | :08:11. | :08:14.
more visibility and to know that we're not so different. | :08:15. | :08:16.
And, Beth, what's the feedback been like from people who've been | :08:17. | :08:20.
to the launch party and people who are hoping to visit this trail? | :08:21. | :08:23.
We had about 450 people at the launch party on Saturday, | :08:24. | :08:28.
and we've got a series of other events throughout LGBT | :08:29. | :08:31.
History Month, February, in the Pitt Rivers Museum over | :08:32. | :08:36.
And everyone had fantastic big smiles on their faces on Saturday | :08:37. | :08:42.
and had a really good time, I think, so I'm hoping this will be | :08:43. | :08:45.
the start of something really, really positive in the future | :08:46. | :08:48.
Beth, Clara, thank you so much for coming in to see us. | :08:49. | :08:54.
We're back in BBC Breakfast tomorrow morning. | :08:55. | :09:00.
Let's take a look at the weather for the week ahead. | :09:01. | :09:06.
This week is certainly a lot milder than it was last | :09:07. | :09:08.
week, with temperatures in low single figures. | :09:09. | :09:10.
This week we're looking at double figures. | :09:11. | :09:12.
Cloudy at times, one or two bright spells, | :09:13. | :09:15.
with the chance of some patchy light rain. | :09:16. | :09:17.
And overnight tonight it will stay mainly dry. | :09:18. | :09:19.
Where we have the clearing skies, the risk of frost in the countryside | :09:20. | :09:22.
Temperatures there could drop to around freezing. | :09:23. | :09:25.
So, a chilly start to the day tomorrow. | :09:26. | :09:26.
A lot of cloud around tomorrow, perhaps some mist and fog in places. | :09:27. | :09:30.
The cloud will thicken through the morning, and we'll see | :09:31. | :09:32.
But there will be some bright and sunny spells, | :09:33. | :09:35.
more likely the further north and east you are. | :09:36. | :09:37.
Temperatures tomorrow reaching a high of 8-9 C with the light | :09:38. | :09:40.
Slowly but surely, that wind direction is going to change | :09:41. | :09:46.
So tomorrow night, the chance of an odd shower. | :09:47. | :09:50.
Mist and fog patches are also a possibility during the early hours | :09:51. | :09:53.
of Wednesday morning, with temperatures falling | :09:54. | :09:54.
Quite a mild start to the day on Wednesday, a good deal | :09:55. | :10:01.
of cloud throughout the day, producing the odd spot of light | :10:02. | :10:03.
Once again, the chance of one or two bright spells, | :10:04. | :10:09.
And you can see the start of the change in the wind direction | :10:10. | :10:14.
to a more southerly airflow, with a high of 10-11 C. | :10:15. | :10:18.
And a further wind change direction on Thursday, | :10:19. | :10:21.
coming in from the south-west, drawing that milder | :10:22. | :10:23.
So it should stay settled on Thursday. | :10:24. | :10:28.
The chance of the odd spot of rain, but it should be mainly dry. | :10:29. | :10:32.
A fair amount of cloud as well once again. | :10:33. | :10:35.
And a similar scenario on Friday - quite a cloudy scene. | :10:36. | :10:38.
The old spot of rain here and there, temperatures reaching | :10:39. | :10:41.
So this week, temperatures are up into double figures. | :10:42. | :10:46.
As we head towards the weekend, it will be mild by day, | :10:47. | :10:49.
mainly dry with some quite chilly nights. | :10:50. | :10:52.
The chance of frost each morning with some mist and fog patches. | :10:53. | :11:01.
at the weekend it will be mild. Largely dry, perhaps a wind -- windy | :11:02. | :11:07. |
