Hello. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's programme. Thieves steal | :00:07. | :00:11.
a bronze war memorial weeks before Remembrance Day. What it represents | :00:11. | :00:16.
is the lost soldier, you know, the unknown soldier, and it is terrible. | :00:16. | :00:22.
Who could do something like that? The MP Mike Hancock appears at a | :00:22. | :00:25.
deportation hearing, and denies he passed on any classified | :00:25. | :00:30.
information to an alleged Russian spy. Farewell to Norrie. Who was | :00:30. | :00:38.
the last living link to the Dorset author Thomas Hardy. I am live at | :00:38. | :00:43.
the ebb stadium as Aldershot Town arrive ahead of the match of their | :00:43. | :00:53.
:00:53. | :00:55. | ||
lives against Manchester United the Alpats alterrible. That is how a | :00:55. | :00:59.
community reacted to the news that two weeks before Remembrance Day, a | :00:59. | :01:04.
bronze war memorial statue has been stolen in Tidworth. The First World | :01:04. | :01:07.
War soldier was installed in the garrison town by the Royal British | :01:07. | :01:12.
Legion in 199. Police are hunting two men, who have been captured on | :01:12. | :01:21.
CCTV, stealing the one off statue. Look. This CCTV footage has been | :01:21. | :01:24.
watched over and over again, and still the Royal British Legion in | :01:25. | :01:28.
Tidworth is no closer to finding out who made off with their | :01:28. | :01:33.
memorial in the dead of night. People round here are outraged, and | :01:34. | :01:37.
disgusted by what the cowardly thieves have done. What it | :01:37. | :01:41.
represents is the lost soldier, you know, the unknown soldier, and it | :01:41. | :01:45.
is terrible. Who could do something like that? These things mean a | :01:45. | :01:49.
great deal to the community, to serving members, and to people that | :01:49. | :01:56.
have lost loved ones, in conflicts and wars. The man at the centre of | :01:56. | :01:59.
this picture co-ordinated the funding. His daughter said the loss | :01:59. | :02:04.
would have his turning in his grave. It has been like losing him again. | :02:04. | :02:08.
He passed away three-and-a-half years ago and I have had people | :02:08. | :02:14.
going "I am so sorry, it meant so much to your father." It opens | :02:14. | :02:19.
wounds again. Had the war memorial been commissioned today it would | :02:19. | :02:23.
cost 20,000. The original artist is willing to replacement for | :02:23. | :02:27.
fraction of that. The mould is round and you can take off most of | :02:27. | :02:33.
the fees so it will end up being about the 10,000. The bronze was | :02:33. | :02:38.
sourced as a foundry here. It weighed round 75 kilos. I have made | :02:38. | :02:44.
a call the a local dealer who says the scrap value is round 2.97 a | :02:44. | :02:49.
kilo. If that was the thieves's intentions their efforts would have | :02:49. | :02:54.
netted them 222. Today all the club has left is a replica. Police | :02:54. | :02:58.
investigations are continuing but Remembrance Day is just over a | :02:58. | :03:04.
service will go ahid but there will be no statue to provide a focal | :03:04. | :03:06.
point. I think it was a professional job. I think that they | :03:06. | :03:10.
had to know what they were doing because they didn't damage the base | :03:10. | :03:15.
at all. So I think they knew what they were doing, and I think nau | :03:15. | :03:19.
they knew what they have got. a pittance to the thieves it will | :03:19. | :03:23.
cost thousands to replace. It is worth more to this town. It is bad | :03:23. | :03:27.
enough they have done this, but even worse, knowing what two weeks | :03:27. | :03:31.
time is, that the timing, you know. It will never been a good time do | :03:31. | :03:36.
something like this, but to do it within such a short space of time | :03:36. | :03:41.
before Remembrance Day is awful. avoid add crowded media presence | :03:41. | :03:45.
today, the Portsmouth south MP Mike Hancock made a surprise appearance | :03:45. | :03:50.
at the deportation hearing of the alleged Russian spy Katia | :03:50. | :03:53.
Zatuliveter. Mr Hancock denied on more than one occasion he did | :03:53. | :03:57.
anything wrong during an alleged four year affair with his Russian | :03:57. | :04:01.
researchers. He said he did not pass on material that was | :04:01. | :04:05.
classified. Ms Zatuliveter is fighting deportation at a hearing | :04:05. | :04:11.
in London. We have been listening to the proceedings. Tell us more | :04:11. | :04:14.
about what happened today Most of the hearing had been taking place | :04:14. | :04:18.
behind closed door, on the grounds of national security. It was only | :04:18. | :04:22.
just after 3.00 this afternoon, that the doors were thrown open to | :04:22. | :04:26.
the public. As people filed in they found the sight that greeted them | :04:26. | :04:29.
was of Mike Hancock, the MP for Portsmouth south, who has been very | :04:29. | :04:35.
much at the centre of this story, sitting there in the witness box, | :04:35. | :04:38.
giving evidence to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. Now, | :04:38. | :04:42.
he was then, we weren't sure ou long he had been been giving | :04:42. | :04:46.
evidence but he was questioned for 20 minutes or so. What happened, | :04:46. | :04:49.
given that was the only, if you like, only time it was open to the | :04:49. | :04:55.
public? Well, he was asked a lot, in fact, act a visit to Iraq, which | :04:55. | :05:00.
was suggested had taken place in 2006. Now, Mr Hancock said he had | :05:00. | :05:04.
not made a visit with the Select Committee to see British troops at | :05:04. | :05:09.
that time. But then an extract of a diary from Ms Zatuliveter was read | :05:09. | :05:13.
out. She said "I think I'm in love. He has gone to Iraq today he won't | :05:13. | :05:17.
be able to write or call. I don't know what do with myself." Mr | :05:17. | :05:20.
Hancock said he had been due to go on that visit, but for some reason, | :05:20. | :05:24.
he couldn't recall why, he had had to pull out at the last minute. He | :05:24. | :05:27.
said he might have given her the impression he was going. That was | :05:27. | :05:33.
crucial of course because questions have been raised about the journals | :05:33. | :05:35.
authenticity. I understand there was questioned about another | :05:35. | :05:39.
report? That was a report on the possibility of confrontation with | :05:39. | :05:44.
Russia in the future. Now, it was suggested by Ms Zatuliveter in fact | :05:44. | :05:49.
he had asked her to forward this to a Moscow TV channel he denied he | :05:49. | :05:55.
would ever have done that, the QC said if it had been found to have | :05:55. | :06:00.
happened it would have been embarrassing. "I didn't do it he | :06:00. | :06:04.
said." Thank you. Up to 100 residents in Swanage are spending | :06:04. | :06:09.
the night in sheltered accommodation after gas leak. | :06:09. | :06:13.
Emergency services were called to Victoria Avenue earlier today. A | :06:13. | :06:17.
rest centre has been opened at the United Reform Church hall. The gas | :06:17. | :06:22.
board said the incident won't be resolved until tomorrow. Aldershot | :06:22. | :06:26.
will be playing the gave of their lives against Manchester United, it | :06:26. | :06:33.
is the Carling Cup and Tony Husband is there with all the action. | :06:33. | :06:36.
Already a fantastic atmosphere in the ground. There will be more than | :06:36. | :06:40.
7,000 fans here to see Manchester United. It may not be their | :06:40. | :06:44.
strongest side who will take on the team, it will still be a memorable | :06:44. | :06:48.
occasion for those ta have managed to get one of those tickets to be | :06:48. | :06:52.
here, for the biggest game since this club reformed. They went bust | :06:52. | :06:56.
in the '90s and of course they have had a long road back, which | :06:56. | :07:00.
culminated in promotion a couple of years ago. If you lock at the | :07:00. | :07:05.
contrast between the two clubs it shows you the gulf between United | :07:05. | :07:10.
and Aldershot. A turn over for United of 331 million. For | :07:10. | :07:16.
Aldershot, just 3 million a year. You look at the capacities they | :07:16. | :07:21.
play to. Old Trafford 76,000 fans. It will be 7,000 for Aldershot. | :07:21. | :07:24.
3,000 normally. The value of players. Wayne Rooney may not play | :07:24. | :07:32.
tonight but he is worth 50 million. Ben Herd, the Aldershot skipper | :07:32. | :07:36.
will fetch 125,000. It's a big gulf. It is a big game and | :07:36. | :07:40.
Aldershot have to try and cause an upset here tonight. More from here | :07:40. | :07:46.
later on. Look forward to it. The Government's says it is clearly | :07:46. | :07:50.
disappointed by Cunard's decision to take its ships away from the | :07:50. | :07:54.
British registry. It the company's fleet will no longer carry the name | :07:54. | :07:58.
of Southampton, as it removes the fleet from the UK shipping register. | :07:58. | :08:03.
It seems no cruise ship remains on the British register, raising | :08:03. | :08:10.
concerns among the union and passengers. Remember this? Queen | :08:10. | :08:13.
Elizabeth, naming the Queen Elizabeth. What could be more | :08:13. | :08:18.
British than that? But, from today, the ship is no longer British. This | :08:18. | :08:22.
will happen to Cunard's other two ship, the name of Southampton on | :08:22. | :08:27.
the stern painted over, replaced with Hamilton, in Bermuda. Last | :08:27. | :08:31.
week, Cunard told us the reason was to allow lucrative weddings at sea, | :08:31. | :08:37.
and that is partly true. But there could be another reason. It is | :08:37. | :08:41.
called the equality act. It is derived from European Union | :08:41. | :08:46.
legislation, and it requires crew from all EU kuntroibs paid equal | :08:46. | :08:50.
wages, to British crew. Most ships sailing from Southampton employ | :08:50. | :08:55.
many eastern European worker, in the past, they have been paid less. | :08:55. | :08:59.
Here is the officers' union. think it does good to the UK, | :08:59. | :09:05.
because I think the main issue is not to be seen as being taken | :09:05. | :09:09.
advantage of seafarers from peerer regions. It is time to end | :09:09. | :09:13.
discrimination. This is what happens on land. I can't see any | :09:13. | :09:16.
reason I shouldn't happen on British ships. The rules about | :09:16. | :09:20.
equal rates of pay only apply to Europeans, people from other parts | :09:20. | :09:24.
of the world continue to be paid less on British ship, as they have | :09:24. | :09:28.
been for generations. The Department for Transport said this | :09:28. | :09:33.
afternoon that under rules changed in August, the Government has taken | :09:33. | :09:37.
the minimum necessary measures to satisfy the European Commission, | :09:37. | :09:41.
while safeguarding the continued competitiveness of the UK fleet. | :09:41. | :09:46.
Nevertheless, Cunard is taking away all its ships, for the first time | :09:46. | :09:53.
in 170 years. Its famous Queens have only ever been British | :09:53. | :09:58.
registered until today. Cruise web forums have furious passengers. | :09:58. | :10:02.
Several people claim they won't travel on Cunard again. In one poll | :10:02. | :10:07.
96% of those taking part opposed the reflagging. Cunard did want to | :10:07. | :10:11.
be interviewed but it is by no means alone in doing this. Most | :10:11. | :10:18.
other lines have done it already. So, we searched for the largest | :10:18. | :10:21.
British registered cruise ship sailing from a British port. And | :10:21. | :10:28.
here it. The Hebridean princess, built in 1964. It carries just 50 | :10:28. | :10:33.
passengers. A sign of the times. The Isle of Wight council has been | :10:33. | :10:37.
accused in the high court of being all over the place in its plans to | :10:37. | :10:40.
cut adult social care. It has been taken to court by two people with | :10:40. | :10:43.
special needs who say the authority failed them. They say the council | :10:43. | :10:47.
did not make clear the impaict of changes brought in last February. | :10:47. | :10:50.
The council says the cuts are a result of reduced funding from | :10:50. | :10:56.
Whitehall. Full consultation will begin over proposals to cut more | :10:56. | :11:06.
:11:06. | :11:06. | ||
than 200 jobs at south cam honesty council. Still to come this evening. | :11:06. | :11:10.
Remembering Norrie Woodhall who has died at 105 and was the last living | :11:10. | :11:17.
link with the great Thomas Hardy. The Isle of Wight has become one of | :11:17. | :11:22.
the first areas in the country to get a new non-emergency number for | :11:22. | :11:26.
the NHS. From today, people living there can dial 111 at any time of | :11:26. | :11:31.
day or night, to access local services. It is part of a plan to | :11:31. | :11:36.
phase out the existing telephone service from NHS Direct, which will | :11:36. | :11:40.
end in England in April 2013. If successful, the scheme could be | :11:40. | :11:47.
rolled out nationally. Short changed, sworn at and sold faulty | :11:47. | :11:49.
goods. Some of the problems shoppers with learning difficultys | :11:49. | :11:54.
have been facing in Portsmouth. Now the City Council has introduced a | :11:54. | :11:58.
new initiative to protect vulnerable people. We have been | :11:59. | :12:03.
finding out more. I thought that was Michael Jackson. Pete and Chris | :12:03. | :12:08.
like broution as much as the next shopper but they haven't always | :12:08. | :12:11.
felt welcome. Their learning difficulties make their nervous and | :12:11. | :12:15.
that wasn't helped in the past when shop assistants were unhelpful or | :12:15. | :12:19.
rude. All they want is the same common courtesy we expect when we | :12:19. | :12:24.
go shopping and that is what is written on their card which they | :12:24. | :12:30.
show to shop staff Do you want some head phones? Pete and Chris are | :12:30. | :12:36.
shopping on Commercial Road part of the safer shopping area scheme. | :12:36. | :12:40.
Store managers know about the initiative and vulnerable people | :12:40. | :12:44.
can feel more confident visiting their stores. Now we have the card | :12:44. | :12:54.
:12:54. | :12:55. | ||
it is easier. It is good. It is working well. It felt like you were, | :12:55. | :12:59.
they didn't want to know you. Since now the card it is like, now they | :12:59. | :13:04.
want to take notice. Trading Standards received complaints about | :13:04. | :13:07.
verbal abuse and faulty goods and decided to monitor the way people | :13:07. | :13:13.
were being treated. They were appalled at the results. I struggle | :13:13. | :13:17.
to believe that there will be, the shop assistants would be swearing | :13:17. | :13:22.
at people with learning disability, asking them to get out of the shop, | :13:22. | :13:26.
refuse to help them. I also experienced where people with | :13:26. | :13:30.
learning disabilitys were sold goods who were second-hand, who | :13:30. | :13:36.
were, should not be in a shop floor in the first place. Do you want me | :13:36. | :13:40.
to put the receipt in the bags. Trading Standards hope toex tend | :13:40. | :13:48.
the scheme across the whole city. Now tonight, questions will be | :13:48. | :13:53.
asked again about the state of the Boscombe surf reef as a full | :13:53. | :13:56.
council meeting. It comes on the day sign test display the result of | :13:57. | :14:01.
a three year survey. Over 100 species have been identified on the | :14:01. | :14:06.
reach which has surprised the team of biologists. The reef has been | :14:06. | :14:10.
closed to surfers since March after a sandbag was split over by a | :14:10. | :14:17.
boat's propeller but it if is quiet on the fairs, there is plenty under | :14:17. | :14:20.
the waves. Marine biologists from bon mouth have been diving on the | :14:20. | :14:23.
reef since it was built three years ago. They found a surprising amount | :14:24. | :14:28.
of life. Even after just a few months. It was one of those wow | :14:28. | :14:32.
dives. Everybody was up on the boat, talking about what they had seen | :14:32. | :14:38.
and how much there was on it, you know, how covered it was, and just | :14:38. | :14:44.
how much biodiversity there was there. They found over one one -- | :14:44. | :14:52.
100 species. For two days the researchers are displaying some of | :14:52. | :14:59.
their finds and apart from monitoring it they are studying the | :14:59. | :15:03.
impact on marine life. The key think is how it performs as a | :15:03. | :15:06.
nursery. We are doing studies to determine whether young once might | :15:06. | :15:10.
be found in the spring and whether they grow and might even restore | :15:11. | :15:15.
some of the fisheries and other marine ecosystems in the bay and | :15:15. | :15:20.
beyond. Meanwhile the crucial sqe for surfers is when will it open | :15:20. | :15:24.
again? Last week the council had talks with the company that built | :15:24. | :15:28.
the reef. Winter proofing repairs should start in the next few weeks | :15:28. | :15:31.
weather permitting. That will ensure they can return next year, | :15:31. | :15:36.
they can work again on the reef and ensure it should be available to | :15:36. | :15:41.
open some time late spring, early summer me, year. The plan is to add | :15:41. | :15:44.
more sandbags to those already there to improve the wave. The | :15:44. | :15:48.
council says it will not cost them anything and will be paid for | :15:48. | :15:54.
through insurance and money with held from the original budget. Now | :15:54. | :15:58.
the last surviving member of Thomas Hardy's original theatrical group | :15:58. | :16:03.
has died at 105. Norrie Woodhall used to rehearse at hardy's home in | :16:03. | :16:07.
Dorchester. It is incredible to think Norrie knew and worked with | :16:07. | :16:12.
the author who himself was born in 1840. Until tend, Norrie continued | :16:12. | :16:16.
being involved in performing his works and her death comes as a huge | :16:16. | :16:23.
loss to the local theatre community. Norrie Woodhall was fond of the | :16:23. | :16:29.
stage. She died aged 105, and with her went the last person to know | :16:29. | :16:33.
the famous author Thomas Hardy first hand. In her youth, she | :16:33. | :16:39.
belonged to the writer's theatrical group, the hardy Players. He didn't | :16:39. | :16:47.
criticise anyone. No, he was very shy man. Very sensitive. They | :16:47. | :16:52.
rehearsed as his home in Dorchester in 1928 Norrie played Tess's | :16:52. | :16:58.
younger sister in the stage version of Tess. She even had a few extra | :16:58. | :17:03.
lines created for her. I had to rush across the stage, throw myself | :17:03. | :17:10.
in my sister's arms and say "Oh Tess, Tess ." That was all. He | :17:10. | :17:20.
:17:20. | :17:20. | ||
asked me for my script, and he wrote in to it "I'm so glad you've | :17:20. | :17:27.
come home." He looked up at me and said "That's better, isn't it." | :17:27. | :17:31.
didn't top her, she became President of the newly formed Hardy | :17:31. | :17:41.
Players and performing his work to the end. Tired of digging potatoes. | :17:41. | :17:45.
Remembering the wonderful Norrie Woodhall who has died at the age of | :17:45. | :17:49.
105. We move on to sport now, and it is a big night for Aldershot, in | :17:49. | :17:53.
just under an hour they will play Manchester United in the Carling | :17:53. | :17:58.
Cup, and Tony is at the stadium tonight soaking up the atmosphere | :17:58. | :18:04.
where I think fans are already arriving aren't they? It is very | :18:04. | :18:09.
noisy, we are currently being entertained by one half of Chas and | :18:09. | :18:14.
Dave. It is Chas no Dave these days. Look at the crowd. This is what it | :18:14. | :18:19.
is like. The Carling Cup 7,000 fans are going to watch Aldershot | :18:19. | :18:24.
against Manchester United. How are you feel something are you excited? | :18:24. | :18:31.
I am. Come on! You were here 40 odd years ago. People were standing all | :18:31. | :18:37.
over the place. Thousands and thousands. We saw George Best play | :18:37. | :18:44.
that time. Brilliant. Fantastic player. Hopefully we will see a | :18:44. | :18:53.
good game today. We don't know the team news yet. Can you do it? | :18:53. | :19:02.
course. Let us try and win it. We don't know yet. Enjoy it. They are | :19:02. | :19:05.
certainly excited. And enjoying the music too. So Manchester United | :19:06. | :19:09.
have just arrive. But I have spent all day here at the stadium taking | :19:09. | :19:15.
a look round. For almost two decades Aldershot Town have been | :19:15. | :19:18.
heading in one direction. The last Football League club to go bust, | :19:18. | :19:22.
but like their club motto, they have risen back through the | :19:22. | :19:26.
league's quickly. Tonight is more than a football match. I mean this | :19:26. | :19:30.
is an event for us, it is not just a match. It is a bit like a Cup | :19:30. | :19:35.
Final in some respects, so huge amount of work, over and above our | :19:35. | :19:37.
normal day-to-day work, the fixtures we have had in the | :19:38. | :19:42.
meantime. For those who have been here from the beginning it is a | :19:42. | :19:47.
momentous occasion. Yes, it was to get football back in to Aldershot | :19:47. | :19:51.
and back to the Football League. We achieved that which was fantastic | :19:51. | :19:55.
but Manchester United here, could never have predicted that. Staging | :19:55. | :19:59.
this game is a big challenge for a League Two club used to averaging | :19:59. | :20:04.
crowds of 3,000. With Sir Alex Ferguson and his side they want | :20:04. | :20:07.
everything to be right, including the pitch. If he comments he's | :20:07. | :20:12.
comment, if he doesn't, I feel we have prepared 100 percent and we | :20:12. | :20:19.
are pleased with it. Well, this is the aaway dressing room. It is | :20:19. | :20:23.
basis, treatment table, it has probably seen better days. Sir Alex | :20:23. | :20:29.
Ferguson will have all his players in here, 30 million man Berbatov, | :20:29. | :20:33.
Michael Owen this is what they will have to get used to. Welcome to | :20:33. | :20:39.
Aldershot. The team found form on Saturday, beating Dagenham and | :20:39. | :20:44.
Redbridge 5-2. Although this won't be their strongest side, Ferguson | :20:44. | :20:48.
has promised a response from United. Aldershot will be as ready as they | :20:48. | :20:53.
can for that and those who resurrected the club will watch on | :20:53. | :21:01.
I would like to live, I have left the legacy and people have said to | :21:01. | :21:03.
me, that this football club must be in my blood. My reply to them is | :21:03. | :21:10.
not in my blood, it is in my bones P Well, this really has been a | :21:10. | :21:14.
dramatic rise, the rising Phoenix as they called Aldershot Town. They | :21:15. | :21:18.
had difficult times in the '90s when the club went out of business. | :21:18. | :21:23.
They fought back. I have Colin Fielder who was a player pre92 and | :21:24. | :21:26.
came back ath as a player coach. A tremendous night for everybody | :21:26. | :21:30.
associated with the club. It means everything to the club. The hard | :21:30. | :21:38.
work that the chairman, to bring the club back in to now, John | :21:38. | :21:45.
McGinty will be looking down on all the players hoping they pull it all. | :21:45. | :21:48.
Manchester United one of the biggest global brands round. We see | :21:48. | :21:53.
how parent a club is to a town that only had 3 or 4,000 people watching | :21:53. | :21:57.
it. It plays a important role in the community. Of course. You get | :21:57. | :22:04.
all walks of people. 7,500 people will be here. Hoping for a miracle. | :22:04. | :22:09.
A club from Division Two could beat a Premiership team. It can happen. | :22:09. | :22:12.
With the support Aldershot have anything could happen. It could | :22:12. | :22:15.
happen. How will the players feel, they will come out and warm up in a | :22:15. | :22:20.
minute. What it will it be like for the players?. It is their Cup Final. | :22:20. | :22:25.
They have nothing to lose. They have to go ut, absorb it all and | :22:25. | :22:29.
enjoy the moment. They may never get in chance again so they have to | :22:29. | :22:33.
grab it with both hands and give a performance, that is all the crowd | :22:33. | :22:37.
are asking for, with them on their backs they can do it today. | :22:37. | :22:42.
United, just a little wobble at the weekend. More than a we believe, 6- | :22:42. | :22:49.
1 defeat. How will they approach it? More differently than they | :22:49. | :22:53.
would have done 1.00 on Sunday. I think they will have some of the | :22:53. | :22:57.
stars on the pitch. Tonight will be about getting some plied back. That | :22:57. | :23:01.
is difficult to say but it is all about pride tonight. We wish you a | :23:01. | :23:04.
good evening Colin. One of many ex- players who are back tonight. | :23:04. | :23:08.
Congratulations, and he will enjoy the evening along with lots of ex- | :23:08. | :23:11.
players who are here. There is another Carling Cup tie this | :23:11. | :23:16.
evening for Southampton. They rup against crystal palace. This game | :23:16. | :23:22.
is live on BBC Radio Surrey of course from five past seven with | :23:22. | :23:25.
full commentary. Mentioning Southampton they will give | :23:25. | :23:30.
youngsters a few debuts in south- east London. They are taking on | :23:30. | :23:37.
Crystal Palace. BBC Radio Solent has commentary on that and bourm | :23:37. | :23:41.
mouth, a important match after a home defeat after the weekend. You | :23:41. | :23:44.
can follow that on Solent as well. Last night, Brighton and Hove | :23:44. | :23:49.
slipped to another defeat. They were beaten 1-0 by West Ham. Let us | :23:49. | :23:55.
look at what happened then. Kevin Nolan scored the only goal of the | :23:55. | :24:01.
game. As by of a mistake at the back by the Albion who lost Gary | :24:01. | :24:05.
Dicker to injury. They are down in 12th. I have to say this has been | :24:05. | :24:10.
one of the better atmospheres to preview a match in. Everybody is | :24:10. | :24:13.
looking forward. We still have Chas and Dave or half of Chas and Dave. | :24:13. | :24:19.
Are you all excited? Are you all going to get a result tonight? Can | :24:19. | :24:22.
you do it? CHEERING AND APPLAUSE I think they are saying yes they can. | :24:22. | :24:27.
Thank you. I don't know whether it is Chas without the Dave, I think | :24:27. | :24:32.
we should have had Chas and Tony. That was good together. Good luck | :24:32. | :24:36.
Aldershot. It will be a great night for the fan. On to the weather. We | :24:36. | :24:43.
had a fair bit of rain. Both we did. Not as bad as the rest of the | :24:43. | :24:48.
country. We have had our share of showers. We have quiet pictures for | :24:48. | :24:54.
a change. Denet and Avon canal in longered for taken by condition. | :24:54. | :25:01.
Also taken this morning from Milford on Sea looking to | :25:01. | :25:06.
Christchurch by Vic. And John captured this broad main picture at | :25:06. | :25:12.
lunchtime today. But we have had a few showers and the showers are | :25:12. | :25:16.
still going on for many of us through this evening and overnight. | :25:16. | :25:20.
It will be drier inland though. I think the showers will become fewer | :25:20. | :25:26.
as we head into the jeev night peryoond clearer conditions will | :25:26. | :25:36.
:25:36. | :25:36. | ||
develop. -- overnight period. Minimum is down to 7C for the far | :25:36. | :25:41.
north, round the south coast. Nine to ten by dawn. We keep the showers | :25:41. | :25:44.
going even through tomorrow morning and there is still that thunder | :25:44. | :25:49.
risk, a heavy risk through the morning but light eras we head into | :25:49. | :25:52.
the afternoon and thunder risk diminishing. Fewer showers by the | :25:52. | :25:56.
afternoon with lots more in the way of sunshine but we lose a degree on | :25:56. | :26:00.
the temperatures. 13, 14 at best and the winds still fairly breezy | :26:00. | :26:04.
at times. As we head into the evening and overnight, the first | :26:04. | :26:08.
part clearer and drier conditions as the showers fade away. The next | :26:08. | :26:12.
bit of trouble is brewing up from the far south-west. Proper rain | :26:12. | :26:16.
pushing up from the near continent and that rain will be round for | :26:16. | :26:19.
much of Thursday morning. Focus thoing the west of our patch, I | :26:19. | :26:24.
think Dorset seeing the heaviest of those downpours but as this rain | :26:24. | :26:28.
band tracks eastwards it is slow in its progress and is becoming weaker | :26:28. | :26:34.
all the while. On Friday as we see that rain band ease away, we will | :26:34. | :26:38.
see patchy drizzle at first. Not any risk of winds through Friday. I | :26:38. | :26:42.
think they will be fairly light as we head into the end of the week | :26:42. | :26:46.
and for Saturday as well, predominantly dry, albeit cloudy at | :26:46. | :26:50.
first. Brighter prospects and the winds turning lighter throughout. | :26:51. | :26:55.
So from rain to fairer conditions, by the end of the week and into | :26:55. | :26:59.
Saturday, although it will be very slow to clear, so Wednesday quite a | :26:59. | :27:03.
few showers through the morning, becoming lighter by the afternoon, | :27:03. | :27:08.
heavy rain by Thursday, and for Friday drier conditions, albeit | :27:09. | :27:12.
cloudy. Saturday mild weather and dry through much of the day. I like | :27:12. | :27:16.
your barometer. That was fun. To remind you, Aldershot Manchester | :27:16. | :27:20.
United, you can hear the full commentary on BBC Surrey. That | :27:20. | :27:23.
starts in about five minutes time for that. That is it from us. | :27:23. | :27:29. |
